Working at WDW How do cast members keep it up?

I celebrated my birthday last year at Disney World with my family (who have long been huge Disney fans). It was such a surreal experience. Everybody that I met was nice, friendly, and extremely helpful; I attended a conference right before, and I swear all the cast members were more pleasant than people who worked at the venue or hotel that I stayed. For lack of better words, I thought everyone was high and so was I. It was my first time staying on property too, and we got the one of the value resorts since my family brought a few kids and grandkids. Even then, one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on, and an extremely clean room. I initially proposed the trip because I had been to Epcot about a decade ago and liked the rides. But I think the entire atmosphere was probably my favorite aspect of the trip this time. And my multi-decade old ass definitely took way more photos with the fab five than I had planned while eating my birthday dinner.

As I have been lying on bed sick over the past few days, I’ve been watching some Disney vlogs because of YouTube algorithm. It just seems so crazy to me that uniformly, the cast members, whether they be on cruise lines or theme parks or resorts, are all so professional and dedicated. And I kind of formed this notion that they must be paid really well. But after some googling, that doesn’t seem to be the case and it’s shocking to me. So for current or former cast members, or people with insights: how do cast members keep up the Disney magic?

P.S. if you are or were a cast member, I appreciate your work and dedication!

Edit: Thanks for the responses! Wow! It’s honestly refreshing to hear that the magic is alive in most of the cast members’ hearts, or some cast members’ livers for metabolizing boozes and stuff. Now I gotta ponder on my retirement plans in a few decades…

Planning One day in parks - early entry & LL advice

Going to Disney on a Saturday in Nov. Will be at the one of boardwalk hotels (haven’t stayed here before) and have early entry. Would like to try to do early entry Epcot for guardians. What time would you leave the hotel? Is walking the fastest way to get there. We also have a car, if that makes it easier/faster to enter thru the front of the park vs world showcase.Ā

Additionally, will be getting park hopper (which parks are still TBD) and lightning lane multi pass. Any suggestions to maximize time/rides? Here’s some of our favs:

Epcot
Guardians (want to try to ride early entry then again with a LL)
Test track
SoarinĀ

Hollywood studiosĀ
Rockin rollercoasterĀ
Tower of terror

Animal kingdomĀ
Expedition EverestĀ

Magic kingdom
Space mountain
Big Thunder mountain Ā

Note- it’s been a few years since we’ve been to Disney world, so new to the pre booking LLs a week in advance. Will need to brush up on my skills!Ā

Open to all suggestions!

Trip Report Rope dropping Magic Kingdom from Wilderness Lodge

A report from this morning!

Magic Kingdom today was 9am opening with Early Entry from 8.30 until 9am.

Boat from Wilderness Lodge departs from 7.30am (the semi permanent sign says half an hour before park opening, but it actually starts earlier).

Board a few minutes after 7.30, arrive before 7.50. Into Main Street before 8am.

Brisk walk to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We're not particularly near the front but the line moves fast. People had finished their ride before 8.30 and we were seated at 8.30!

Ride for a few minutes, quick walk to Tomorrowland and we can see (and hear!) people riding Tron during the early opening period! We go straight into the building at 8.40, and even after waiting an extra couple of minutes after requesting the front row, we're on board at 8.54am and finished before the 9am rope drop people arrive!

I can only assume almost nobody went directly to Tron at 8.30am, because everything I read said it didn't run during the early opening period, and so we could pretty much walk on up until 9am.

There was no Wait Time displayed in the app until 9am, so I guess Tron was not "officially" running even when we were on board!

Special Events & Experiences Dinner before MVMCP

My family is going for the 1st time 1st week of December. We are planning to spend all day in Magic kingdom and break for an early dinner at Ohana’s at 3:30. We are going to the Christmas party and I know you can enter at 4 but doesn’t actually start til 7. Is this a bad decision? We will have 3 kids under 5yr old. I thought it might be good to have a ā€œbreakā€ before the party. But now I’m worried this is taking away from our time. Is this an okay plan? Or will we be wasting a lot of time even though party doesn’t actually start til 7.

MDE, Lightning Lane, & Virtual Queue FYI: MDE is currently bugged and deleting and then recreating all attractions every 30 seconds. You're not going crazy

This has been happening since late yesterday, for both WDW and DLR. If you see attractions suddenly disappear and reappear on the map or in a list, you are not going insane.

AskWDW Gift ideas

So, my sister’s birthday is coming up, and a week after her birthday, she’s flying from NYC to Orlando to go to Disney World. She’s a teenager, and for her birthday, I want to give her something she can use on her trip or related to her trip. Do you have any gift ideas related to Disney? Preferably, something I can easily find on Amazon or somewhere similar!

Resorts & Accommodations Renting DVC points from the UK

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about renting DVC for our next trip to WDW (Jan '29 - Boardwalk Villas). Understand it's much too early to book yet, but I was wondering if there was anyone from the UK that had had success in doing this?

Is there anything I should know? Any tips? Which rental company did you go through?

Really appreciate it!

Thanks

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your replies. I'd been thinking about going through David's so it's good to see this is a popular choice that people have had no issues with!

Passholder Annual Pass

How far in advance can I purchase an annual pass? Like is now too soon for a 13 months out?

Our next trip will be in November of 2027. I have a resale contract for DVC so I will be booking when our 11 month window opens in December. I have to purchase 4 passes in total. Ideally I’d starting buying one every 2-3 months or so to spread out cost since I have over a year.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t do it that way? Is there a disadvantage to separate purchase dates?

I am aware once we scan in we have 365 days to use.

Anything else I’m missing?

Planning Christmas Special Filming - Castle Views?

A little bummed that filming for the Christmas special falls on our Magic Kingdom day!
We booked a fireworks dessert party, and I’m worried the filming equipment around the hub might obstruct the view from the reserved viewing area.
Has anyone attended a dessert party during filming? Did the equipment affect your view or overall experience?
Would love to hear your experiences, and bonus points if you have photos!

Working at WDW New Polynesian Cast Costumes

WHAT IS THIS?!

No more thematic dresses and patterns, instead we get Walmart clearance bin?

First the Not So Scary costumes, now they’re coming for resort uniforms.

I truly couldn’t imagine checking into my $800/night++ hotel room and this is the best they can do for staff. It’s not relaxed Hawaiian vibes, it’s cheap and boring.

Transportation Which way?

Staying at Poly. What is the best way to get to Epcot? Epcot from monorail in lobby or walk to TTC and take monorail from there? Two different Disney employees gave me two different answers.

Food, Drinks, & Dining Heartbroken about the new recipe for Chicken Tip Yip in Galaxy’s Edge

We just came back from Disney. Our last trip was in 2023. At Docking Bay 7 they used to have a chicken dish that was a fried chicken cube for lack of a better word with a tangy sauce over rice. Now, it’s just chicken tenders with mac and cheese. Lame! I was really looking forward to eating that again haha

MDE, Lightning Lane, & Virtual Queue Ovelap LLMP with existing ADR, park day.

On the actual park day (not prior). If I have ADR, will the system let me overlap ADR when making LLMP selections? I have a Olga's reservation for a one beverage, will I be able to book Smugglers (if available) at the exact same time?

getting conflicting info doing a google search. Some say no restriction, the system unlocks the same day but some still say a 20 min restriction. Some say it won't ever let you book a LL when you have a dining reservation for the same time (I think that is false?)

Talking about changes made while in the park, not pre-booking the 3 LLMP.
