DISCUSSION Going further with Spaceship Earth's story

I started going to WDW in 2010 after 10 years of my wife pleading with me finally wore me down. Last week was my sixth trip and third in the past 3 years.

The two rides that really stuck with me are People Mover and Spaceship Earth. People Mover is just such a wonderfully chill experience. But Spaceship Earth really struck a chord with me and inspired me to go further with major milestones in human history.

But I really haven't found what I'm looking for. I've been around YouTube, the History Channel, National Geographic. It's either too light or it focuses on the wrong things like the science of archeology which I don't find all that interesting. I'm more interested in what we learned from what we found instead of how we found it.

Anyone else gone down this same road? Suggestions?

I'm aware of the Story of Civilization book series but that was difficult for me to follow the last time I picked it up.

TRIP PLANNING First timer, EPCOT only

Hey! I am a Florida resident visiting Epcot ONLY on this Saturday, Halloween. I have NEVER been to any branch of Disney and quite frankly, overwhelmed.

Is it worth getting a Lighting Lane for one day (Saturday Halloween) in Epcot? It looks like Tier 1 only has 3 eligible rides, and you can only use one at a time, is that right?

If you are a first timer, in your mid 30s, what are the must sees, dos and tips? Our group is gluten free also and not a fan of crazy roller coasters, are the rides in Epcot like big and scary?

TRIP PLANNING Tried the whole Food & Wine loop in one day

Got there right at booth opening saturday & did one item per booth split two ways... Stuffed by the time we hit the UK, and Canada didn't happen.

Brazil's cheese bread and the crème brûlée in France were my top two, that brûlée is going to live in my head for a year. Phone was menu/map/photo log all day so Anker's new MagGo 2 Pro went on before lunch and stayed there till the fireworks.

Next year it's two days😈

FOOD Epcot food and wine tikka masala yogurt

This probably a long shot, but I recently went to Epcot during the food and wine festival (AMAZING!!) and tried the tikka masala with spiced fennel yogurt. I am trying so hard to find anything that could point me in a direction to recreate the fennel spiced yogurt!

Does anyone else have any idea what else could be in it? Or maybe have a receipe that tastes similar or connection that could just tell me what all is in it besides fennel and yogurt?

I am begging. It was so good.

Sorry if this isn't a good spot to post!!

NEWS The Music of EPCOT

The new park album is now available to listen to digitally for purchase or through streaming services! The iconic classic songs sound the best they ever have, notably Magic Journeys that has a gorgeous new extended intro on it. There's also some of the newer things from the park on the album, too. Everybody go listen so maybe it encourages them to produce a Volume 2 for the 45th anniversary of EPCOT Center next year!

THROWBACK My Homage to Horizons

Not sure how many people in this group will recognize this, but this is my (almost ready to 3D print) homage to Horizons, the best attraction ever! I plan to do the spaceship and solo sub as well. Hope you guys like it, it’s the best I could do with only a handful of old grainy reference pics. I know the colors aren’t correct, I was just sick of looking at it in a single color. I can practically smell the oranges already :)

DISCUSSION Do you think “SPSHPRTH” would be a good personalized license plate or is too hard to decipher?

It says “Spaceship Earth”, which is quite hard to abbreviate to 8 characters.

Was Disney originally going to sponsor TLS or was this just a placeholder until a real sponsor could be found? From Walt Disney’s Epcot Center book.

Just saw this Air Ambulance at the Emergency Services building, there was a fire truck and an ambulance just pulling up as we Skyrode past… we saw it take off a bit later… On our way out, there was someone receiving medical attention, as the cast members made a human privacy fence l, politely smiling away awkwardly… hope whoever it was is ok!

I bought this coloring book from 1983 and scanned in all 74 pages. Then I spent some time cleaning all the pages up and un-coloring the few pages that had been colored by the book’s former owner.

I shared the restored book here if anyone wants to color some EPCOT history!

DISCUSSION What should EPCOT carry forward into its next 50 years?

I first visited EPCOT Center in 1984, and it left an impression on me that has never really gone away.

What I loved wasn't simply the attractions themselves. World of Motion showed us how we got here. Journey Into Imagination celebrated curiosity. Universe of Energy could teach while still entertaining. And these were experiences generations could share together.

I love many of EPCOT's modern attractions too—Guardians is extraordinary—but I've often wondered whether a modern flagship attraction could combine today's technology and scale with some of that original foundation: where we've been, why what we've achieved is remarkable, and optimism about what might come next.

Space seems especially suited to that idea. A child, parent and grandparent should be able to experience the wonder of the universe together—without anyone having to wait behind.

That's the question I've spent the last 16 months exploring through an independent concept called Cosmic Horizons.

The idea became The Thread—humanity's continuous journey of curiosity, discovery and exploration, connecting one generation to the next. The experience begins with our earliest fascination with the sky, follows the discoveries that brought us here, and carries us outward into the universe before returning home with a new perspective on Earth and what might come next.

My goal was an accessible, multi-generational flagship experience where the universe itself provides the scale and wonder rather than physical intensity. I also developed a concept-level engineering study to explore whether something of this scale could work operationally, not simply look impressive on screen.

I released the completed attraction preview on October 1, exactly six years before EPCOT's 50th anniversary. There's still time, lol.

This isn't something Disney is developing. It's simply my attempt to explore what I would love to see carried forward from the EPCOT I first experienced into its next fifty years.

Not a return to the past. A return to a purpose.

Watch the Cosmic Horizons attraction preview:

Explore the complete concept:

I'd genuinely enjoy hearing what other EPCOT fans think:

What from EPCOT's original philosophy is still worth carrying forward—and what should a modern EPCOT do differently?

TRIP PLANNING Help me plan the perfect Epcot day for my daughter’s 21st birthday

My daughter is turning 21 and said she wants us to go to Epcot and “drink” around the world for her birthday celebration. And that is what we’ll be doing. We’re not doing any of the other Disney parks. Her birthday falls the week of Christmas so I know it will be crowded. Which restaurant would you pick for the birthday dinner inside the park? And any must do/must see? Or fun thing to do for her birthday? It’s been a few years since the last time we went to the Disney Parks. Thanks!

FESTIVALS hot tips for drinking around the world

Hi gang— 11 friends and I are going to the Wine and Food festival on the 24th to celebrate some 40th bdays, so we plan to get real weird. We have zero itinerary except hitting Guardians of the Galaxy. Does anyone have food and drink recommendations and do’s/don’t bothers? I know my way around the park but I’ve never buckled down and tried to hit all the countries before, and there’s infinite options it feels like, so I’ll take any advice the gurus can offer. Thanks!

Edit: great tips, I appreciate them all.
To elaborate, I’m looking for more specific foods and drinks to avoid/try! This group has done Disney (with our kids who were total buzzkills) so we’re accustomed to drinking at theme parks at our big age. Thanks again ◡̈
