Legal 2026 Ballot
Does anyone have a guide or any thoughts on the judicial retention section of the ballot from a pro 2a perspective?

The Reddit admin team is once again on the warpath over firearm transactions, including transactions that occurred on Reddit before it was banned in their TOS.
Moving forward all posts regarding selling, purchasing, wanting to sell, or even inkling towards any of those with regards to firearms, ammo, or explosives will result in post removal and a week ban, permanent ban for a second offense.
if you see such a post that happens to get through the auto-mod, please report it no matter how long it has been live, as we have a threshold to auto-remove reported posts.

Saw this on the Colorado gun owners Facebook group. It’s a website someone made to try and help challenge the frt ban, thought I would repost it here.

I have been seeing some other post regarding dry fire in other subs, and though I would start here for some feedback or thoughts.
I started this because I bought a MantisX but didn’t like that my phone had to stare at the target, which kept me from moving around. I couldn’t find anything that fit what I wanted, so I started building my own. I shelved it for a while after running into hardware problems, picked it back up about 6 months ago, and the hardware is finally stable. Now it’s mostly finding my software bugs.
I designed the circuit boards, the 3D-printed case and the software. They’re WiFi laser targets with 5 scoring rings. They work with or without internet, run on rechargeable batteries, and one target acts as the hub, so there’s no extra box. You run drills from a browser on your phone, tablet or computer, and it keeps your history. I’ve tested 5 targets at a time so far, and you can put them anywhere in the house that has WiFi.
Picture has phone for reference of size. You can stack them or move them anywhere in your house. Visible Red or IR lasers work. I am using my 92FS double action single action so I dont have to rack each time. Also, the mantisx titanx would work great on this, but prefer to use my DA/SA.

The videos show three drills:
All of these settings are adjustable.
I have 10 more test boards arriving soon, which hopefully dials in all my hardware settings. I may eventually sell these who knows, but right now I’m mostly after honest feedback. I have a few friends who I plan on getting these next 10 boards to, for real world testing other than my own biased opinions.
What would you want a setup like this to do? What would make it actually useful for your dry-fire practice? All feedback would be super cool and I appreciate you all checking my post out!
THanks,
Mark

Just had a new purchase transferred over to 5280 Armory in Arvada. They’re saying the transfer fee is $140. Is that normal for Colorado? Seems insane for a handgun
Google says that it’s almost 3x the average here. I’ve seen Silver Bullet recommended in here on other posts

Given he's a former marine, I can make some assumptions, but just wanted to be sure. His website is a hot mess and annoying to read. Current sheriff Marinelli's term has been pretty abscent by my account, which I suppose is a good thing, but my CCW renewal will be during the next sheriff's term. I've heard Marinelli's office drags CCW permits out, but wanted to get some confirmation. TIA

I’d like to SBR a Henry supreme and reached out to D. Wilson, but apparently they don’t work on lever actions. Can anybody recommend someone else to cut and thread a barrel?

The recent hunting with SBR meme thread got me wondering WHEN CO originally made silencers illegal. TL;DR: It was 1971, and there's no "law" (but there IS a dumb and obsolete "regulation") against hunting with SBR.
Traditionally and historically in the USA, it used to be the right of the trial Jurors to decide, only for their one specific case, whether a weapon used in a crime was especially “dangerous” in the way it was used or crafted/built. For the majority of Colorado’s existence as a territory and State, there was never a “Naughty List” of dangerous weapons dictated by lawmakers and handed down to the Citizens. It wasn’t the government’s job to decide which weapons aren’t or are categorically dangerous, it was our job as jurors deciding the fate of a fellow citizen charged with a crime. But as of 1971, CO lawmakers had taken our place as the civilian weapons expert.
Here's a timeline, and some links, showing how CO's sensible gun laws started to become non-sensible from 2013-2026.
1868 - Territory of CO Revised Statutes. First revision to what few rules they had back then.
1876-77 - Colorado becomes a State, 100 year anniversary of 1776. General Laws enacted.
1891-1911 - In 1908, lawbooks undergo cleanup and overhaul. By 1911, CO had started formally legislating criminal usage of concealed weapons, brass knuckles, slingshots, etc. Nothing about law-abiding citizens in possession. Weapons simply weren't illegal UNTIL you committed a crime with one.
1921 - CO Recovering from World War 1. Governor urges legislature to overhaul the messy alphabetically sorted laws. New format and structure, hierarchical numerical ordering instead of alphabetical. Result in early 1922 published as "Compiled Laws of Colorado". No significant anti-gun/2A laws on the books.
1935 - Federal NFA enacted. Colorado law still barely makes any mention of guns.
1938 - Enactment of the "Federal Firearms Act", regulate interstate commerce, create the Manufacturer & FFL regulation framework. Colorado law still largely devoid of gun laws, deferring to the Fed.
1953 - CO recovering from Great Depression and WW2. In 1951, Office of the Revisor of Statutes authorized to conduct large overhaul of CO law. Completed in 1953. No significant gun laws added or changed.
1960 - Federal government sells hundreds of thousands of surplus M1 carbines and other firearms to private citizens, making the owners unsuspecting felons for possessing short barrel rifles (under 18 inches barrel length).
1963 - Colorado’s original “felon with a gun” law. C.R.S. 40-11-11. Predates the federal Prohibited Person statutes by 5 years. Until the 1971, Colorado still had little to no formal gun control other than this.
1965 - Likely the first introduction in CO of the term “illegal weapon”. Hunting law passed, 62-13-19(3)(c) Hunting with an “illegal weapon” became a civil penalty of 25 dollars.
1968 - Vietnam boiling point, widespread civil unrest, armed protestors. Federal GCA enacted promptly after high-profile incidents like MLK Jr., RFK, Texas University.
1968 - Federal definition of short barrel rifle changed from "less than 18" to "less than 16" inches, because of the M1 carbine problem. The DOJ didn't give "amnesty", Congress actually changed the law to keep innocent citizens out of prison.
1971 - Major overhaul to CO Criminal Code. Original Colorado “illegal weapon” criminal statute C.R.S. 40-12-102. Formally creates the “Naughty List” (possession), including metal knuckles, machine guns, silencers, short barrels, blackjacks, switchblade, and other items. There’s not yet a distinction between Dangerous versus Illegal. Only cops/military allowed to have.
1972 - C.R.S. 40-12-102 updated (changes in BOLD) to read:
1973 - Large overhaul of CO law structure and format. Moved Criminal Code from Title 40 to 18. Amended 18-12-202(2) to mean that the “valid permit and license” shall be an “affirmative defense” to a criminal charge. This means it can’t be used until after being charged with possession. Another significant change was the formal definition of "short rifle" (Criminal code, 18-12-101(1)(h))).
1975 - Updated the 1965 hunting law for “illegal weapons” to further include any “unlawful method”. Defined “rifle” as 16+ inches in their regulations (2 CCR 406). SBRs became unlawful as a Manner of Take for hunting, even though in 1972 the law was changed to recognize that a Federal permit allows a person to shorten the barrel of a hunting-legal rifle.
1979 - CO repealed and re-enacted Dangerous Weapons law 18-12-102. For some reason, CO removed the reference to federal law regarding NFA items.
The difference between “dangerous” and “illegal” weapons was created.
1987 - 18-12-102. Add “ballistic knife”. Other language re: criminal use of stun guns.
1989 - Introduce concept of “assault weapon” to CO law, originally as an “aggravator” secondary add-on charge to a primary crime. "Any machine gun or semi-auto centerfire with a magazine capacity of 20+ rounds."
1993 - 18-12-101 (definitions): Define terms “adult”, “handgun”, and “juvenile”.
2013 - Standard capacity magazine ban. Private-party transfer ban. Background checks. Only significant anti-2A laws passed since the Naughty List of 1971.
2022 - Ballistic Knife downgraded from Dangerous to Illegal.
2023 - Ghost Gun law, define “firearm” and “frame or receiver”. SB23-279 adds “machine gun conversion device” to 18-12-102(1) list of dangerous weapons.
2026 - Enter SB25-003. Finally banning those mythical 1989 “assault weapons”, using the 2013 magazine ban as an excuse. After FRTs suddenly got really popular, but were NOT legally full-on “machine gun conversion devices”, the conversion term was renamed to “rapid fire device” which includes MG conversions. Also, 3D/CNC manufacturing is verboten. Possession of CAD files still semi-legal. Attempted parts (barrel) possession/transfer ban.

So just wondering about the new rules when it comes to building a sbr or a sbs. Is it legal now in Colorado that I can build a sbr without any restrictions?

How does this announcement affect Colorado Law that stipulates a felony charge if you possess SBR/SBS/AOW’s without proper federal registration and tax stamps, and federal authorization to possess and transfer, etc?

You can now saw off your shotgun in 35 states (among other previously NFA illegal items) in New York and even California, but not here. Not Colorado...
