General Question Colorado FFL Transfer Fees
Just had a new purchase transferred over to 5280 Armory in Arvada. They’re saying the transfer fee is $140. Is that normal for Colorado? Seems insane for a handgun
Google says that it’s almost 3x the average here. I’ve seen Silver Bullet recommended in here on other posts

Damn, that’s what I was afraid of. Definitely will never go back there.
Appreciate the recommendations for next time y’all!

Check the gunbroker ffl list. $140 is criminal

This, you can find people working out of their homes for the love of the game or a side hustle and it's much more personable.

I love 5280, but fees have gotten high from a lot of the locals. My unpopular opinion is that it's basically collusion in order to force us to pay their high prices for the guns themselves instead of saving money by going online.
Max at Skyline was the Reddit go to because he was cheap. He sold the business but as far as I know he is still a good deal? I haven't used them since so maybe someone else can comment.

Operates the same as it did before. Max even still works for them.
The only noticeable change I had was more flexibility in doing pickups and a different location.

Do they allow pickups on weekends now? I see the hours indicate Skyline is closed then, so curious if pickups changed.

Still no weekends, but you don’t need an appointment anymore and can just show up during their business hours.

You know what's wild, years back I contacted them about ordering a Barrett, as I knew at one point they had an M107 years before. They said they wouldn't order one

$140? Are they trying ot compete with Centennial Gun Club for most expensive? Skyline for sure is where it's at!

I had a few bad experiences there. Once the owner copped an attitude when he didn’t understand hk makes Colorado compliant magazines for the vp9. Plus most goods are overpriced. RIP Westminster arms.

SKYLINE FIREARMS DISTRIBUTION
$25
you've been given the answer like three times my dude
I've lost count how many times I've gone to max. Before I knew about I was laying $65 and always felt that was absolutely fucking insane, and it is.
Just go to skyline. Quit wasting money

Don’t use 5280 Armory as an FFL, they priced themselves in a way that they clearly don’t want to be an FFL. I like shooting there, and looked into using them as FFL. I ended up with skyline.

I pay $40 background check included at my range Silver Bullet.

What do you pay for membership? I just paid $65 for my transfer there last week as a nonmember.

I did a yearly thing I believe was $250. Don’t quote me on that it was a while ago.

In that area I’d contact Troy at Colorado Gun Writes and see if he’s still doing transfers. It was 40 or less when I got a few guns during Q1 of this year. I know he doesn’t sell guns anymore but still might be doing transfers.

5280 Armory used to be a decent place because of their selection. I don't shop there anymore because of the prices. I would not pay that, but I also had a different dealer explain his point of view. He did not want to do transfers because he was responsible for the paperwork but did not make money selling the firearm. He was only charging $100 because he felt that was enough to hang on to the forms and do the background check. I don't know if they are just keeping up with their long-time inflated prices or if they are trying to not do transfers. There are enough places leaving or closing shop in Colorado because of the laws. I was told Old Steele is headed to Florida and won't even sell to anyone in Colo now. The place on Wadsworth in Arvada is closing its doors. If you want to have a reason to go to 5280, go look at what is on the walls. There are a lot of cool firearms in that collection. They aren't selling any though which helps to not spend money there.

I pay $50 and that always seems a little high to me. They probably don't want you actually buying guns from anyone but them.

No dude. $40-50 id say. Try places like cabelas or jax. Jax doesn’t do anything ar platform though. I don’t wanna give away my secret gem but there’s a lot of private dudes that do it cheap.

Why would you not want to give away your gem? Do they not want the business? Honest question here.

He’s older and winding down. He doesn’t care about adding more business and just kinda does it for a few people.

That’s pretty insane I think I paid any where from $30-$50 for my transfers at magnum shooting and scheels

I like going to blucore for mine. They're not the cheapest at $65 but they're on top of contacting you right away and everyone there seems cool.

I found a local FFL who is retired and works out of his house for fun. Charges me $25 for every transfer and he's partnered with silencershop so for suppressors he charges me $40 ($20 fee from silencershop for digital paperwork, and $20 on top of that). [note: If the purchase is through silencershop there is no $20 fee].
Skyline is great as well but it's a long ass drive from where I live, the FFL I found online is down the road from me.

Are you sure you didn't have to pay the excise tax on top of the transfer fee. Just had the same thing happen, had to pay an additional $90 because of CO taxes.

Have never been a fan of 5280. Went there once years ago have never returned.
