DA Breakup After several weeks of coldness following the discard, I finally get an apology but still feel completely devastated and don't know how to respond...

My ex-partner of 2.5 years who I strongly suspect is a dismissive avoidant broke up with me a little over a month ago (we were long distance). Full context of breakup here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/s/FBjxBiWozV](https://www.reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/s/FBjxBiWozV))

After weeks of coldness following his devaluation of me during the discard, he sends me this message after I sent him back the sentimental gifts and cards I gave him over the years, along with some past photos he printed, and a note I wrote. He originally sent these things with my belongings which I thought was incredibly cruel, hurtful and unnecessary. He also included a short note apologizing for "things not working out between us" and said that he will always care about me and I always mattered to him, and to never become bitter like he has.

I recently sent him back the gifts and cards along with a note of my own saying that him sending me the gifts and pictures was hurtful and unnecessary and that it is his responsibility to figure out what to do with them. I then just said I am sad he gave up on us and that I was willing to do the work to fix things so we can grow together as partners and that I wished he ended things with me with more care and empathy. I ended the note saying not to let bitterness consume him and that I hope he can take time to heal and work on himself emotionally so he doesn't hurt anyone else.

I was notified the package arrived two days ago so I guess he recently opneed it and read everything. I didn't expect a response at all so I am shocked rn and honestly don't know if I should respond and if so what I should say. I just feel such whiplash from everything, he made the break up seem like it was due to me not "making his life easier" and in general us not being compatible so I am just so confused why now he is saying it is because he feels unworthy? It feels like this is again just another cop out and I am finding it hard to believe given I found his Hinge profile a few weeks ago and he recently refollowed his ex whom he broke up with a few months before we met (he told me she was crazy, obsessed and unstable and acted like he hated her...).

I am so confused and would be grateful for any input from people who have had similar experiences with their ex DA partners. How would you respond in this situation?

I hate what we are going through, but I’m happy I found this community

The way these stories are all so similar to mine make me feel so much less crazy. So much less alone. The way we put up with less than what we deserved. The way the breadcrumbs gave us so much hope that the person with the capacity to love us MUST be in there somewhere, the empty promises. The blindsiding discard.

Im sorry for everyone else who is also in so much pain, but my god it’s so much less lonely knowing my experience isn’t even unique.

Why do I miss him so much

He’s a terrible person (liar and manipulator), he treated me badly and offered me nothing that’s how not interested he was
He never called , barely text
I was the only one trying to work it out , yet I’m sitting here confused why I’m crying over a thing that doesn’t even exist

How many of you were told "I wish you all the best"?

So on the surface that might sound "nice" like he's wishing me good things and ending things on a good note. But mine said this at the end of his sudden, emotionless discard text (which had ZERO nice words about what we shared or what I had meant to him or anything nice about me or the relationship at all) and it just felt so empty like it came from a breakup robot LOL.

This was the only platitude I got and honestly for the level of connection he previously said he felt (he claimed he had never felt this way about anyone in his life and envisioned our future), it was a slap in the face to get this generic breakup line out of the blue.

Frankly, I've gotten job rejection emails that contained more warmth. It's sad.

(I know some of you have gotten some truly cruel words and my heart goes out to you)

Vent/Rant Offers friendship after discard then lying about being busy

I find it interesting when an avoidant discards you with the usual "I need to focus on myself", " I have a lot on my plate", "we're just not compatible" and then offers friendship afterwards.

Except they're not really intending to be friends. They don't reach out. And when you do, they barely respond and claim they're super busy.

Except they're not. The idiots forgot that you know them and their routine and patterns and they keep doing the same shit including flirting all over social media.

So they're busy alright. They're too busy for you. Because they don't really want to be friends with you. They just don't want to be the bad guy in your book so they make your friendship so miserable and cause you to chase them to the point that you get tired and stop.

Then you leave as they intended you to leave except they can say you're the one who left them and so it's your fault.

Vent/Rant Avoidant break up cycle: acting like nothing happened

The one part of the avoidant break up cycle I really struggle with is once the pressure is off, they’ve initiated the break up and it’s over, they can turn around and act like just friends and that nothing happened.

I get the point is the relationship causes perceived pressure which avoidants register as a threat to their emotional wellbeing, and that makes them want to flee. But I find it so mind boggling that once they’ve had a little bit of distance between you and break up, they can pop up and banter with you like nothing happened. A normal break up would generally assert a firm boundary, no people pleasing, being polite but when it comes to bids for connection the boundary is reinforced, no coming back to test the waters, no listening to pleas etc.

It feels like their actions are so close to self-awareness that the relationship isn’t the problem, otherwise they wouldn’t seek out or entertain the connection, but they seem wholly incapable of accessing that perspective. And it doesn’t matter who initiated the contact, it seems like they can’t honor or enforce the boundary and the break up that they swear they want.

Anyway, off to try to not interpret why my avoidant dumped me a week ago because he didn’t see a future but now he’s sending me photos of his Halloween costume.

DA Breakup Avoidant avoiding divorce

• Upvotes

My husband of 5 years, together for 10, told me last Thursday he was in love with me and wanted to attend counseling to work on our relationship. By Saturday afternoon, he told me I was no longer welcome in our marital home. He blocked my number and when I was able to get a hold of him to discuss pick up times for our children, he laughed wickedly and said that there was always a way I would be able to get a hold of him that there was no escape from me.

Sunday and Monday were spent by me in grief, as I processed so many emotions about our relationship’s end, and my life with our children being different.

By yesterday afternoon, his voice had softened when I called to let the kids talk with their dad. ( He never calls us. I always call so the kids can talk.) he started telling me about his evening on Monday and talking to me about things he normally would. We discussed the upcoming schedule with Halloween. I mentioned that I wanted things to move ahead peacefully, and that I hoped we could share our children for holidays. Then I cautiously asked him when he planned on filing for divorce.

He was very mysterious in his responses and kept saying that maybe things are going to be OK. I asked for clarification. I asked, “things are going to be OK as in we are going to stay together or things are going to be OK as in we are going to be friends or boyfriend/girlfriend post divorce?” He gave me a non-answer and mentioned that we do not have the same financial goals.

Every single time I talk to him, he finds a way to try to make me feel bad about myself. Him stating that we do not have the same financial goals was his way of calling me, irresponsible, lazy, and unambitious. His dismissive avoidant style stayed hidden from me for years because he always use work as an excuse to stay away. I never knew what was happening, but I knew I felt lonely and angry and hurt. And I was never able to ask him to spend more time with me or the children because he was providing for us. Every time I told him how lonely I was in our relationship, I was met with accusations of not being grateful, of not understanding how the world works, and of lacking ambition.

He is playing games with me isn’t he? I speak with a lawyer tomorrow morning. My husband wants to give me only $60,000 in equity, but our marital home has appreciated from $330,000 to over $600,000 in worth since we have lived there in 10 years. When I first moved into the home, the home was unfinished. He is not counting this equity in his calculations of what I am owed. Because of this, I am hiring a lawyer.

I feel that as soon as I hold my husband responsible financially in a larger way he is going to turn into a monster. I am not a bad person and I am not trying to take him to the cleaners for everything he has. But $60,000 after 10 years spent together, managing our children and our home, being encouraged to be a homemaker by him, and then only being given $60,000 is terrifying.

When does it get easier?

It’s been 7 and a half weeks since the discard and 5 and half since the last time we spoke and I’m still feeling just as depressed and still can’t sleep. I just want to stop ruminating and replaying it over and over in my mind but I can’t get her out of my head.

Personal Growth It's bizarre how I knew absolutely nothing about attachment styles before the discard

I had absolutely no clue such things existed until my discard (It happened 4 months ago). It's funny how after such experience you just keep reading and learning about these things. I would never guess I could get *that* interested in psychology

6 Month Update, Reflection, and an Unexpected Encounter

[Original post]

[6 Month Recap]

So about six months have passed, five since our last communication. I've come a long way from where I started, and I'm genuinely happy with my life and the progress I've made. I've traveled both domestically and abroad, leaned on friends and family for support, worked with a therapist, made more of an effort to say yes to social opportunities, and built a consistent workout routine.

[Reflection]

I've noticed that I feel significantly less compelled to explain everything through the lens of attachment theory. In the beginning, it helped tremendously in creating my own explanations and finding some closure, but over time it became a sort of obsession.

So many videos claimed far too confidently that X would happen by Y timeline. Those predictions may have brought some temporary comfort, but for me, almost none of them panned out that way. People are not their attachment styles, and life does not play out in a vacuum. I've learned that attachment theory can provide a useful framework for understanding behavior, but it cannot reliably predict what any individual will do.

Another important lesson has been recognizing that I can love someone deeply without making myself responsible for their healing. Understanding someone's struggles doesn't mean I have to accept the ways those struggles affect me, nor does it mean I can do the work of healing for them.

Unsurprisingly, as time passes, I find myself dwelling on the past less and less. But I'm still human, and she does still cross my mind occasionally.

[Unexpected Encounter]

Recently, a friend of mine reached out to explain that my ex was planning to visit his city and had asked to meet for dinner. He wanted to prioritize our friendship and make sure I was comfortable with it. I told him I had no objections and that he should absolutely go, as they were friends too. I only asked that he not bring me up unless I came up naturally.

Early in the breakup, I actually went out of my way to encourage our mutual friends to maintain their relationships with her. She was convinced everyone would hate her, and I didn't want her to lose her support system. Unfortunately, nearly all those friendships have since fallen apart. So we were both surprised that she reached out to him at all.

After dinner, my friend filled me in on what turned out to be a rather unfortunate encounter.

He said that almost immediately after sitting down and asking how she was doing, she launched into a series of negative comments about me, my life, and my friends.

He found it disrespectful, especially when comparing it to how I've continued to speak positively about her and our time together. He was also confused about why she thought he'd be a receptive audience, knowing that he and I are close friends.

He said the reasons she gave for ending our relationship didn't seem to make much sense to him, and he got the impression that she wasn't fully speaking from her genuine feelings. He also felt that she was going out of her way to emphasize how happy she is with her new partner, although the reasons she gave for her feelings struck him as rather superficial.

His final observation was that it almost felt like he was sitting across from a completely different person.

I won't lie, hearing all of this was a little hurtful, even if it wasn't entirely surprising.

It's still jarring to reconcile this with the person who came crying to my doorstep days after our breakup, wondering aloud whether she was making a terrible mistake. The same person who told me I was the best partner she'd ever had and the only person who truly knew and understood her.

When we broke up, I explicitly asked whether there was anything I could have done better. She offered no meaningful grievances and repeatedly explained that she needed to be alone to figure out who she was. She told several of our friends the same thing.

Within about a month, she was seeing someone else. Now, several months later, the account of our relationship she shared with my friend seems substantially different from the one she gave me.

I suspect some of this may be an attempt to reconcile her past feelings with her present decisions. No one wants to be the villain in their own story. But ultimately, I can't know what she genuinely believes, and I've realized that I no longer need to.

I still choose to remember and speak positively about her and the relationship we shared. It wasn't perfect, but it was meaningful, and I don't need to rewrite those years to make sense of how they ended.

In a strange way, hearing about this encounter has helped me loosen some of the last remaining emotional ties I had to her wellbeing. I still wish her the best, but her journey is no longer mine to worry about.

I still care about the person I knew and the memories we shared, but I've accepted that our relationship as it existed is gone. Whatever happens next in her life is hers to navigate.

I genuinely have empathy for people struggling with these patterns, whether you call them avoidant attachment or something else entirely. Being on the receiving end has been painful, but I know now that I'll be okay. I can't know what her experience is like, and I hope she eventually finds whatever peace and happiness she's looking for.

Finally, thank you to the strangers here who left thoughtful comments when I was struggling the most. Some of those words helped more than you probably realize, and I appreciate everyone who took the time to listen.

FA Breakup What was that...

this is an experience that has really changed Me and I wanted to ask if anyone had similar feelings afterwards.

we dated for two months. She told me basically every day how great I am and that nobody has ever treated her like that. Meanwhile, she stated two times to take things slower. She said she started to let me into her heart and that she couldn't handle me leaving. After those two months, she asked me for a committed relationship. Three weeks later, she broke up. Six days prior to breaking up with me she makes plans to meet her parents and tell me all the cute stuff.

This emotional roller coaster was reaping havoc on my nervous system. I felt like I was on fire all the time.

So the question is: after this breakup, I was very hard on myself. I beat myself up a lot. Telling me things like I'm a loser and not enough. if only I was more secure. "of course someone like that would leave me", "why would they want an insecure loser like me"... and so on

We have no contact for two months now. Before that we met a few times after the breakup. She drunkenly told me how much she misses me. But never really talked about it later.

I had a feeling that every time some emotional and vulnerable topic came up, couldn't talk to her.

But what if I am biased? What if she actually was able to communicate but my anxiousness ruined everything?

When we met for the second time, I asked her normal getting to know questions. She suddenly went rather quiet and mumbled "I already revealed too much about myself".. that should've been a red flag.

This entire situation left me utterly confused and I feel like it broke my character into 1000 pieces

Am I delusional?

Vent/Rant Why trade familiarity and an established connection for the uncertainty of novelty?

For those with fearful-avoidant attachment, what’s the appeal of walking away from a good connection for the novelty of someone new?

You’ve already built chemistry, trust, and familiarity with someone. Now you’re back at square one, learning somebody else’s favorite color and childhood trauma.

And for what? The same fear of vulnerability and abandonment, potentially with someone who’s an even worse match.

I’m genuinely curious what makes starting over feel more appealing than working through an established connection, especially when a long-term relationship is the goal.

FA Breakup She knew she had a pattern of sabotaging relationships. She promised me she wouldn't do it again. Then she did.

I'm a 42-year-old lesbian, and I'm struggling to make sense of the end of a relationship that I genuinely believed would be my last.

My ex-girlfriend and I broke up twice. Both times, the relationship ended after a period of deep emotional intimacy and discussions about our future together. Both times, she seemed to withdraw from a relationship that, until then, had felt extraordinarily loving. What makes this particularly difficult is that she knew she had a history of doing this.

She told me about it herself. She acknowledged that she'd repeatedly fallen in love, become deeply attached, and then suddenly found herself losing feelings or withdrawing when the relationship became serious. She identified with fearful-avoidant attachment and recognized that she'd sabotaged previous relationships in much the same way. After our first breakup, when we reconciled, she promised me that she wasn't going to let it happen again. She told me she knew what she wanted, that she wanted me, and that she was certain she wouldn't repeat the same pattern.

I believed her. And I don't think I was unreasonable to believe her. I loved her, she loved me, and I thought that recognizing her own behavior meant she understood what needed to change.

We began planning a future together. We talked about marriage, about sharing a home, and about spending the rest of our lives with each other. We promised each other that neither of us would ever have to be lonely again. I ultimately uprooted my life and moved across the country to be with her.

Five days after I arrived, she ended our relationship. Again.

She told me she'd lost the romantic attraction she once felt. She was frightened and overwhelmed, and she no longer wanted the future we'd been planning. I was devastated. I had left my life behind because I believed we were building one together. Suddenly, I was trying to find somewhere to live and figure out what came next, while grieving the woman I'd expected to marry. And I still loved her. I still do.

After the breakup, we eventually resumed talking. Over the following weeks,, we exchanged hundreds of messages. We shared affectionate nicknames, watched shows together, talked about our days, comforted each other, and continued many of the familiar rituals of our relationship. It felt, in so many ways, as though we were still together. Except we weren't. She maintained that she didn't want to resume our romantic relationship.

Eventually, I had to acknowledge that this arrangement was hurting me terribly. I couldn't keep being emotionally available as though I were her girlfriend while knowing that she didn't want to build a future with me. So I told her I needed to stop communicating. I explained that I needed to protect myself and that I would be the one to initiate contact if and when I felt ready.

A little over a week later, she emailed me about something trivial, something she knew I was already aware of. It was an innocent-looking gesture, but receiving it brought back an enormous amount of grief, confusion, hope, and anxiety. I found myself right back where I'd been before, wondering what she wanted, whether she missed me, and whether she might be reconsidering. I eventually sent a brief thank-you, and afterward, I felt profoundly sad that communicating with someone I'd once planned to marry had become such a painful undertaking.

I've also noticed her appearing in Reddit discussions where I've been active, something she did during an earlier separation before eventually contacting me again. I can't know whether that's intentional, but the resemblance to our previous cycle is difficult to ignore.

And that's where I find myself now. I'm trying to understand what it means when someone is aware of a longstanding pattern of sabotaging intimate relationships, promises they won't repeat it, and then does.

I've spent an extraordinary amount of time reading about fearful-avoidant attachment, deactivation, and the push-pull dynamic that can occur when someone simultaneously desires and fears intimacy. Some of those explanations seem remarkably consistent with what I've experienced. But I've begun to recognize a distinction that I wish I'd understood much earlier: awareness of a pattern isn't the same as changing it, and promising not to repeat a pattern isn't the same as having a plan to address it.

When my ex told me she wasn't going to sabotage our relationship again, I never thought to ask what she intended to do differently. Was she working with a therapist on these issues? Had she developed ways to recognize when she was withdrawing? Did she have a plan for communicating her fears instead of abruptly ending the relationship? I didn't ask. I wish I had. But I also recognize that I was her girlfriend, not her therapist. I wasn't supposed to be responsible for managing the pattern she'd identified in herself. I believed the woman I loved when she told me she knew what she wanted, and I built my life around that promise.

I don't think she's a bad person. I don't believe she deliberately set out to hurt me, and I don't want to rewrite the tenderness we shared as something false or manipulative. She made me feel loved, beautiful, and safe in ways I'd never experienced before. That's part of why this has been so devastating. The person who made me feel safest in the world became someone whose name appearing in my inbox could send me into a panic.

I still remember the woman I loved. I still remember the promises. I can still picture our wedding with such clarity that sometimes it feels almost like a memory. And I can't understand how something that felt so real could fall apart in the same way she'd promised it wouldn't.

I'm not asking whether fearful-avoidant people are incapable of love. I don't believe that. I'm not interested in demonizing people with attachment difficulties, either. I understand that these patterns can involve genuine fear, distress, and conflicting emotions. But I am struggling with the question of responsibility. If someone knows they repeatedly hurt partners through the same behavior, what responsibility do they have to address that pattern before making serious promises to another person?

For those who've experienced this from either side, I'd genuinely appreciate hearing your perspectives. Have you ever had a partner acknowledge a history of self-sabotage, sincerely promise to change, and then repeat the same pattern? If you've been the person who withdraws, did you genuinely believe things would be different each time? What eventually helped you recognize the difference between wanting to change and actually changing?

If you've been on the receiving end, how did you stop blaming yourself for not recognizing the warning signs or asking the right questions? And how did you reconcile the loving person you knew with the person whose decisions hurt you so profoundly?

I don't expect anyone to predict what my ex will do next. I know that her contacting me again wouldn't necessarily mean she's prepared to repair the relationship. I've already learned that returning isn't the same thing as being ready to stay.

I suppose I'm trying to understand how to accept that someone could love me, promise me a future, genuinely believe in that promise, and still repeat the very behavior that destroyed it. Because I didn't need her to be perfect. I didn't need her to be fearless. I just needed her to be willing to face her fears with me, rather than repeatedly leaving me to deal with the consequences alone.

I wanted us to choose each other. And I don't know how to make peace with the fact that I couldn't make that choice for both of us.

Avoidant Advice Requested Feeling hurt

Hey everyone,
I need your opinion on something because my head is absolutely spinning. I am dating a guy since almost 6 months and I tend to have an anxious attachment style, and he is a textbook avoidant.

When we first met, he was a completely different person. He was incredibly loving, affectionate, constantly texting me, wanting to see me, and putting in massive effort. He literally told me that he could fully see a relationship with us. It felt like an amazing connection, and I felt safe.

Yesterday, I brought up the topic of exclusivity not even a relationship yet, just a healthy foundation so we aren't sleeping with or dating others. The moment I set this boundary and asked for reassurance, his entire demeanor flipped. He started to discuss with me became detached, and annoyed, claiming that I’m working through a checklist instead of living in the moment??
He refused exclusivity because in his mind, "it's the exact same thing as a relationship," and relationships mean heavy responsibility. He pathologized normal dating. He explicitly shat on other guys who date with the intention of commitment, calling it "fake/unreal." He claimed he wants everything to happen "organically" which to me just felt like an excuse to reap the benefits of my energy without any accountability.
He explicitly told me, "You will never get this security or commitment from me." He added that he wants to be completely free, independent from everyone.

When I held my ground and told him what if I download a dating app tomorrow his behavior became wildly contradictory. He told me he was genuinely curious to see what our dynamic would be like if I went out and fucked other people.
But the second I replied with, "Okay, but if I date others, I am completely pulling my time and energy away from you," his facade cracked. He asked, "So that's it for us? We won't talk anymore?"

He is completely fine with me being sweet, cheerful, and an emotional safe space for him, but the second I have a boundary or demand respect, he pulls away or gets defensive.
Whenever I call out his behavior, he claims I am "too emotional," an "overthinker," and "too sensitive." I feel completely devastated because I fell in love with the affectionate guy, but yesterday he made me feel like I am just "not good enough" or not attractive enough to be chosen,
he also admitted he wants connection but because of childhood he is the way he is

I feel played and deeply hurt and don’t know what to do

This is just a friendly reminder to not chase ghosts

Idk what to say. I thought he and I could have a somewhat civil conversation, but I ended up getting blocked in a video game after saying: "r we able to talk?" Idk what I was fucking thinking tbh. I should have not reached out. He literally has told me that whenever he sees my name popup on his screen -- it ruins his day. But, like how can you fucking tell someone that you used them after four years. He dumped me a couple days after birthday (he was soft ghosting me at first. he started the soft ghosting on my birthday). Before my birthday, we had gotten intimate for the first time, and started acting weird after that and then bam dumped. I'm sorry for ranting-- I just don't have anyone to talk to about this.

Maybe he isn't an avoidant and he just lost interest. I just know that I feel like absolute shit. I feel used and I just wanted to come to some sort of resolution, so we can fix whatever he thought was the problem.

My ex (39s M) ended our serious relationship after a conflict, but still watches every story I post. Is he conflicted or am I overthinking?

• Upvotes

I’m 29F, and my ex is in his early 39s with two children. We were together for over a year in a serious long-distance relationship.
I became very close to his children, spent a lot of time at his home in Paris, and we discussed a future together, including eventually living in the same city. I genuinely believed we were building something serious.
However, our relationship wasn’t perfect.
He had a pattern of withdrawing or ghosting me whenever things became difficult. This happened around three times before. Sometimes I was the one who tried to end things because I couldn’t handle the uncertainty, but he would fight to get me back, call repeatedly, apologize, tell me he loved me, and say he couldn’t lose me.
We would reconcile, and things could be wonderful for months before the same behavior happened again.
The conflict in Paris
During one of my visits to Paris, I discovered something involving another woman, which seriously affected my trust in him.
Around the same period, he found old conversations between me and my ex-husband. There was confusion about the dates displayed on the messages, and I tried to explain the situation and show him evidence.
This created tension and mistrust between us.
However, we didn’t break up, he asked me if we can start a new page and we had an amazing time. We continued spending time together, and things seemed good again. Even after I returned to Lithuania, we continued discussing our future, children, and the possibility of closing the distance, by me relocating to his city.
He even told me that he hadn’t been thinking about breaking up.
The breakup
Then he started withdrawing again.
I tried to communicate with him, called him, and asked what was happening. At first he said he never thought about breakup, and then I was like calling all day because I was anxious and Eventually, he told me he couldn’t continue the relationship, that he wasn’t doing well, and that he needed to focus on his children and work.
He said I deserved someone who could give me more attention.
I was heartbroken and tried to convince him to reconsider. Eventually, I sent a loving goodbye message, accepted his decision, and stopped contacting him.
We’ve now been separated for approximately 3–4 weeks, the longest we’ve ever been apart without reconciling.

His behavior since the breakup
This is what’s confusing me.
During his previous ghosting episodes, he would completely avoid watching my Instagram and Snapchat stories.
This time, he’s watching EVERY story I post, consistently within the first hour and sometimes within minutes, from his personal and business accounts.
I’ve stopped chasing him and continued living my life. I’ve been posting my gym activities, running, nights out, university events, my business, conferences and other everyday moments.
He even continues watching while he’s away on vacation with his children.
Recently, he removed me from Apple Family Sharing, which hurt because we’d shared subscriptions and music. I did not say anything and 1 week after he removed my name from Netflix knowing I can still access to it.
Yet he hasn’t removed me from social media, and he still has many of my belongings at his home, despite my request to return them.
He hasn’t contacted me directly, though.
Another detail is that he once told me his previous ex contacted him asking questions when he removed her from Apple Family Sharing. This makes me wonder whether he expected me to react similarly.
After the breakup he accepted gifts I had already bought, and he spoke to my sister once.
I know it’s possible he’s simply separating our lives gradually while remaining curious about me.
But this is the first time I’ve stopped chasing him completely, and his behavior is noticeably different from previous separations.
My family member lives in same city and country as I’ve booked ticket before the breakup but now idk if I should go or not I’m scared to be anxious and disturb my detachment process, also my friend lives there and asked me to ask him to send my clothes to her address.

He keeps using my YouTube account even after he removed me from Apple subscription and netflix profile
My questions:
Do you think he’s genuinely moving on, or could he still be emotionally conflicted?
Could removing me from Apple Family Sharing while leaving every other connection intact be an attempt to provoke a reaction?
Why would someone who previously avoided my stories suddenly watch every single one so quickly after ending the relationship?
Has anyone experienced an ex coming back after several weeks of silence, particularly after a breakup involving mistrust?
I still love him and would consider giving the relationship one more chance if the communication and trust issues could genuinely change.
However, I’ve decided not to contact him again.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people who’ve experienced something similar.

Ex moved to Europe

• Upvotes

I woke up to a LinkedIn notification today that my ex of 11 years has moved to Europe.

It’s triggering on some many levels:
- Europe was my dream for us, not his
- He moved to the city where his best friend lives. He used to visit there once a year for a music festival and go on 2 week benders
- I’m pretty sure his rebound (a Brazilian dancer) lives there and now I’m worried he moved for her

I’m having a really hard time processing. I’ve held out on a sliver of hope for so long that he would come back to himself and realize the mistake he’s made…and now that hope is gone.

I feel forgotten, discarded like a piece of trash. I can’t stop thinking about him living a dream life with his rebound and never feeling pain again

Avoidant Advice Requested after break up

• Upvotes

he (34 age) broke up with me (32 age) 45 days ago (month and half)
i accepted the break up and did not argue or beg or anything
and i went for no contact the next day if not on the same mint
he is still following me on Instagram
He- the dumper: the first few days after the breakup he likes few posts and re-posts like it is fine to be alone it is better that way .... another one that he wont get married until he find the girl of his dreams .. and so on just few of that
Me - the dumped one: i didn't post any thing for the first 30 days and then i started to post stories and like or re-post some other posts random funny natural somethings like that he saw couple of my stories

lets get honest i want him back but i need him first to know my value and really miss :
-how could i use Instagram without texting him as he is the one who left and it wasn't my fault ?
- posting me doing presentation at work would help realise what he lost or pic of me wearing dress and having fun ?! i do have both already i am just asking what concept would made a man realise what is he is missing and fear of losing me forever

Has anyone experienced a breakup where your partner seemed completely sure about your future together, then suddenly ended things when a big life change became real?

• Upvotes

I’m really struggling to make sense of a breakup and would love to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar.

My ex and I were together for a year, and our relationship was genuinely really good. He was loving, affectionate, committed, and often spoke about our future together. We travelled a lot, made amazing memories, and I had every reason to believe we were building something serious. He made me feel loved and secure, and I trusted what we were creating.

He is Australian and has been living in London for several years, but he had decided to move back to Australia. I knew this was coming, and we had started discussing what it might mean for us. I would need more time in London before making such a big move, but I wasn't saying no to Australia or to a future with him. I was genuinely starting to see a life there for myself, and I was trying to work through what such a huge decision would mean. He asked me at the end of July to move with him at Christmas. I panicked but ultimately came to the decision I wanted to be wiht him and would go in June next year - he agreed. After a few weeks of hard conversations and some anxiety, I thought we were finally moving to being excited together.

Then, seemingly very suddenly, he ended the relationship. He said his feelings had changed quickly and felt definitive, that the thought of moving back to Australia with a relationship felt overwhelming, and that he needed to go home and focus on himself. He said he missed me, but still felt the same way about ending things. He didn't want to try long-distance or work through the practicalities together because he felt he couldn't give me the relationship I deserved.

We were about to book flights to Aus for Xmas and moving in together, and then out of the blue my world has been shattered.

I can't stop thinking about how he could look back at all those memories and everything we'd shared, and still decide to end our relationship so abruptly. I understand that someone can love you and still decide a relationship isn't right for them, but I struggle to reconcile the person he was with me throughout the relationship with the person who ended it.

Part of me wonders whether the reality of such a huge life transition brought up fears or doubts he hadn't fully confronted before. Maybe he genuinely realised he didn't want to navigate that next chapter in a relationship. Maybe he had been having doubts for longer than I knew. I don't want to assume I know what was going on in his head. He had been so committed and so loving but totally discarded me on the side of the road as if our relationship meant nothing. I have had one conversation with him since where he has maintained his position and cut off all contact. His friends and family have reached out in shock. All my friends and family were with him the weekend before and said he was incredibly attentive and loving.

What hurts most is that I feel I wasn't really given a chance to be part of the decision. I wasn't asking him to promise that everything would work out. I wanted us to have the conversation, explore our options, and decide together. Instead, he reached a conclusion on his own, and I was left trying to understand how the future we'd been discussing could disappear so quickly. I see now that he was definitely avoidant. He blindsided me three times in the relationship with the sudden need to go 'home' and feared I would break up with him frequently. Once I agreed to go, I thought we could go through it together, but out of the blue he discarded me (and did to his two exes before in australia). He said I deserve better and the timing is wrong and only if we had anotehr year in london or if I had been in a different stage of life....

Has anyone experienced something like this? A partner who seemed genuinely in love and committed, but who suddenly pulled away when a major life change or commitment became real? Did you ever understand what happened? Did they seem to process the breakup differently from you, or did you eventually get any clarity about their decision?

I'm not necessarily asking whether he'll come back. I'm trying to understand how someone can look at a relationship that meant so much, remember the good parts, and still feel so certain about walking away without trying to work through the uncertainty together. He has since been told by friends that what he's done is traumatising and awful, but I haven't heard anything.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been on either side of this.
