While the majority of the current components are new(er) than what it originally contained, my old Alienware case is just about as old as XP itself and shows plenty of the battle scars it sustained being dragged around to LAN parties in my senior year of high school and on into college. We truly didn't know how good we had it. Happy birthday XP, thanks for the many years of trustworthy service and only occasional rage-quitting.

I've got an old HP Compaq 8200 Elite AIO I refurbished and am going to be selling. Given it's low specs (i5-2400S, 4GB DDR3) I decided to turn it into a XP machine rather than upgrade it to run modern Windows. I got Windows XP Professional SP3 (32-bit) installed via a CD I burned
I grabbed chipset drivers, graphics drivers, and sound drivers. Chipset drivers installed just fine, the audio drivers caused the system to no longer boot into Windows so I uninstalled them through safe mode. Graphics drivers required .NET Framework so I grabbed version 4.0 from Microsoft's website and that installed no problem along with the graphics drivers. I then tried installing the audio drivers again and it worked without issue that time
So far I've installed Mount & Blade: Warband from a GOG installer (still showed XP support on the store page at time of download) and that played without issue. I've also installed F.E.A.R from a physical copy and that installed DirectX 9.0c and it also plays fine (I won't be selling the machine with games installed to be clear)
I assume there are of course going to be some games that'll require certain dependencies I don't have installed yet. Looking at the quick start guide software page the only other thing I can see that is essential is Visual C++ Redistributables. I'll also grab the latest DirectX version which is 9.0c June 2010. Please let me know if I'm missing anything, thanks

Hi everyone, I'm new here!
I'm getting into retro virtualization and emulation. I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro (Retina, Early 2015, Model A1502 - Intel Mac).
Previously, I used Boot Camp with Windows 10, but I rarely used it because rebooting back and forth from macOS was annoying. So, I decided to switch to virtual machines.
Currently, I'm using VMware Fusion and running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 7. For the most part, Windows 98, 2000, and XP run ridiculously fast and smooth. However, I'm running into a few specific issues:
After browsing around retro pcs posts, I saw a lot of people recommending 86Box. Since my Mac uses an Intel CPU, UTM isn't really an option for me. I downloaded 86Box, but I'm completely lost on how to use it or configure it properly.
My questions for the community:
Any advice, driver recommendations, or setup guides would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have to many cool looking cases with acrylic side panels. My xblade, the Tsunami Dream, my aspire case ext. but not enough generic looking boxes. Totally in love with this. Maybe so I'm not always to temped to look inside while it's running lol. P5K, e8400, OCZ Reaper 4gb, Western Black 650gb, BFG 8800 GTS 640mb, SoundBlaster Audigy 4.

Me and my girlfriend are trying to install xp pro sp3 in our old laptop. Its already installed, but when trying to log in it says we need to use the phone method to activate it, but when we click to start it says is already active. It keeps on this loop and we don't know what to do anymore (already tried the setupoobebnk, nothing changed).

Hi everyone!
I have an old HP Compaq Presario V2000 running Windows XP, and I want to recover and transfer the photos and files stored on it to my current laptop.
Unfortunately, the USB ports on the old laptop aren't working, so I can't simply connect a USB drive and copy everything over.

We had a good time during our Lan party, including some technical problems. The only constant during all our Lan Parties, doesn't matter which Operating System we use :)

I didn't forget about Half-life opposing force and supermium, I just haven't installed them yet. It's been a very long time since I last saw the battery icon in the system tray on a Windows XP laptop. It's not an aftermarket or rebuilt battery, just an OEM one that has survived against all odds.

without dos box. i just had to instal vdmsound from
https://archive.org/details/vdmsound-2.1.0_202610
and run with vdmsound in the explorer rightclick context menu
how can this be. many games run perfect and i dont think vdmsound is a dos emulator like dosbox, which i dont use on that windows xp pc because it goes too slow. vdmsound is to emulate the sblaster on a windows xp pc while executing dos games directly. it also can handle ems xms and conv memory in the settings of the (right click) config file it creates.
i can run duke nukem 3d at full speed on xp without dosbox. on the same pc duke 3d runs at only 2-4 fps on dosbox... ???
i thought windows xp had no dos implemented ?

Go try it out luna.arksouthern.com I think we started this in 2022 maybe 2023. But back then it was all Electron/NodeJS and now it just runs in your browser so the file system is much more limited. But you can connect folders from your device into it (if you use Chrome; if Safari/FF, you need to re-connect the folder every time you refresh). It wasn't until recently that I decided to use an old abandoned VPS to give this little project some life and connectivity. Everything is FREE NO EMAIL REQUESTED and so I've had to think of creative ways to limit bandwidth usage. But we'll see how it goes posting to Reddit. Just a technical detail, this could nearly entirely run on your own machine from an HTML file IF you didn't want web browsing or e-mail or chat to work; LMK if you really want that self-host life. Everything was open sourced and stalled out around six months ago, and I had too many friends say that they would use it if I stripped out the Electron and added in a shared server; tell me what you think.

25th Anniversary boot and shutdown from my YouTube channel.
In future, I will do a review of the laptop on YouTube; I'm just too busy with exams/studies, so I cannot do it at the moment. laptop was on the market from 2002-2004 but was discontinued in 2003 and replaced with the next-gen model

1 year ago I returned to Windows XP after years away.
The primary reason being EAX, but I refound memories of my first experiences with computers and how simple things seem to be back then.
Today I leave some pictures of my custom build to celebrate 1 quarter of a century of Windows XP.
In the PC pictures I have my gtx 750 ti lp, but thanks to SupraGSX on github it is now possible to use gpus like my gtx 1050 ti lp.
Windows XP will never die as long as we are around🎊
