We need your help this afternoon, and all it takes is a laptop. The fair board that runs the Lake Perris Fairgrounds meets today at 4pm, and public comment is open to anyone on Zoom. The fairgrounds is state land that belongs to all of us in Riverside County, students included.

What’s going on:

• In August the board (the 46th DAA, home of the Southern California Fair) signed a nonbinding agreement with Global Stack for an edge data center, a parking garage and a helipad on about five acres next to Lake Perris. It could lead to a lease of up to 100 years. That’s longer than any of us will be around.
• The fairgrounds is outside city limits, so city bans can’t touch it. Perris voted 5-0 to ban data centers, and that ban stops at the fairgrounds. The fair board is the only one that can end the agreement, and it can do that with 30 days’ notice.
• Ventura’s fair board already ended its agreement with the same company, and Santa Barbara’s Earl Warren Showgrounds said no too.

I'm a first year at UCR, so this is my first time living away from home. I live in Dundee (which is supposedly the best dorm). I tend to be a very neat person, to the extent that I vacuum + scrub every surface with soap & water at the end of the week. However, the residence halls are HORRENDOUS. The bathrooms are filthy as hell, people literally shaving and leaving their hair across the sink, leaving open food waste outside of the garbage, etc. When I tried to dispose of trash last week, the trash chutes were working perfectly fine, but there were many people dumping their trash into a pile instead of into the chute and it smelled really really bad. This is just one of the many problems, I could go on and on about how bad the living conditions are. Why are people so filthy? Do people not know basic manners?

Hey guys, I had a question about how R’Web registration works and also how some Media and Cultural Studies classes work.

I’m trying to create a term plan and two classes I need have a very small overlap. One of them is an online screening section for an MCS class. Is the screening actually like a Zoom call where everyone watches the movie together or is it just a placeholder where you can just watch the movie any time during the week?

Also, will R’Web completely prevent me from enrolling in classes because of the slight overlap? It would suck if that’s the case so I want to be prepared. There aren’t other screening sections for the class with screenings.

What are my options here? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

How is it? i’m in an ultimatum in choosing between UCR or cpp for designated choice of schooling for either EE or comp sci. i’m a comp sci transfer from CSUSB and looking to either stay in comp sci or switching over to EE but can’t decide on the school. i know UCR is a research institute and cpp is more of a hands on type of institution but im not really sure what that means for EE and comp sci?

I am a second year Data Science major and I was planning on doing either a minor or major in Biology. I wanted to talk to the CNAS drop in advisor but i’m having trouble signing up for a time slot, since my BCOE advisor said to do drop in advising for CNAS. Any advice on majoring or minoring in bio as well would be helpful!
