Transportation TAPS wrote nearly $10 Million in parking tickets over two years and tracks its officers by "tickets per hour."
Guest column by the Student Commuter Organization and All4Yolo: https://theaggie.org/2026/10/27/department-of-transportation-services-dots-taps-parking-commuter-transportation
From their public records requests (TAPS is now called DOTS):
- nearly $10M in citations across 2024 and 2025
- possibly $20M+ total revenue in those two years, about $15M of it from passes (their estimate)
- officers tracked in a "tickets-per-hour" database
- commuters ticketed 10-15 min after parking
TAPS gets no state money or tuition and pays for campus roads and paths too, so revenue isn't profit. But students and staff fund all of it, so they probably should publish where it goes.
The groups also asked in May for a nonprofit-funded monthly pass for 6-10 low-income commuters (DOTS already sells a monthly permit to employees). No answer in four months. Students have had no monthly or quarterly option since COVID, and C lots are $5.50/day.
