Discussion Takealot is full of nonsense

Not all people are book people, so not everyone will agree on the below but I have to rant...

I don't know about other people on this thread, but I am very angry at Takealot at this moment.

I pre-ordered a book that has been released worldwide today (27th of October). My pre-order and payment went through on the 6th of October - with the description and delivery date being 27th of October. Counting down the days until the release, because I have been waiting 3.5 years for the author to release another book, only to see on my order that my delivery will only be on Friday 30 October, without an sms or notification from Takealot or anything.

What is the point of pre-ordering, Takealot stating delivery on the date of the release, and then on the day of the release, the book is still 1400kms away, on the other side of the country?

If I knew Takealot was going to do this, I would have either ordered it from somewhere else, or I would have taken my chance and gone to a bookstore during my lunch break to see if I can find the new release anywhere.

On 28 October 2023 (3 years ago), the Springboks defeated New Zealand 12-11 to win their 4th World Cup, which is more than any other nation - more remarkable when you note that we did not participate in the first 2 editions.

Hoping for a repeat next year!

Discussion Help reconnecting with South Africa 🇿🇦

Hello everyone! This is very random but I’m Malaysian with a South African fiance and I will be visiting your beautiful country in March for the first time ever.

My fiance unfortunately spent most of his teen and 20s years away from South Africa so he isn’t the most “cultured” and he feels sad that he doesn’t know much about his own country’s culture, food and social life. His parents also have kept him in their own little bubble when he was growing up.

Now that we are visiting SA, we really want to have a good trip and learn + relearn the real South Africa. I’ve been watching so many videos on your food and my goodness, it looks absolutely incredible!! I cannot wait to try them all.

What are some of the things you’d recommend a foreigner and a foreign-local to do/eat/experience in order to get a proper feel of the local culture, history and food scene. Any kind of help would be appreciated! 💗💗💗

Discussion Considering relocating from Gauteng to PE - would love some honest advice!

Hi everyone!

My husband has been offered an opportunity to relocate to PE today through his current company, and we're seriously considering it.

We're currently living in Gauteng and have two children, aged 8 and 13, as well as 3 cats and a small dog. My husband would be working around Life St George's Hospital.

We've never been to PE before, so I'd really appreciate some honest opinions from people who actually live there!

A few things I'd love to know:

Areas: Which suburbs would you recommend for a family? Ideally somewhere safe, family-friendly and not too far from Life St George's Hospital.

Rentals: What can we realistically expect to pay for a 2- or 3-bedroom house or townhouse, preferably in a secure complex? Are rentals generally affordable?

Schools: Both our children currently attend a school that caters for ADHD and Aspergers (high autism) , although they're both following the mainstream CAPS curriculum in a LSEN school and doing very well. Are there any good schools in PE that offer similar support? Ideally, we'd like them at the same school.

Safety: How does crime in PE compare to Gauteng? Are there particular areas to avoid?

Cost of living: Is PE generally more affordable than Johannesburg, or should we expect expenses to be similar?

Lifestyle: What's it actually like raising a family there? Are there plenty of things to do with children?

Pets: How difficult is it to find rentals that allow multiple pets?

We're currently quite settled in Gauteng, so moving would be a big decision, especially with children and animals involved.

I'd love to hear the good, the bad and the ugly!

Would you personally recommend making the move from Gauteng to PE?

Any advice, suburb recommendations, rental agency suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

History Lest we forget: The Last Grave at Dimbaza (1973)—the documentary apartheid tried to suppress, showing forced removals and children starved by the system.

History that is not remembered is easily rewritten, and suffering that is not witnessed is easily denied. Dimbaza matters because it shows what apartheid did in the open while trying to keep it out of sight. To remember is to refuse that erasure—and to insist that the dead and the dispossessed are not forgotten.

Discussion Advice for legal help or a chance to whinge about the situation.

I know this is sharing personal issues and whatnot, but we don't know what to do or what we can do. The legal system, especially concerning divorce proceedings is unknown to us. If there is a better subreddit suited for this then drop suggestions in the comment section.
Like, Is there any advice out there? Her incompetent lawyer says taking it to court will cost her more than what she is owed. Are there options we are over looking. What do you think?

TL;DR
Sister is divorcing, all she wanted was the repayment of the sale of her car and to continue the current cellphone contract. Nothing else.
About a year ago he sold her car (for a lot less than market value I should add) and used the money to buy a new car for them both to use although she was never allowed to drive it. Then he decided to bounce on the marriage, leaving her with a broken heart and no transportation. Through his lawyers correspondence he agreed to pay her back the value he sold it for if she met his demands which she did - He took everything of value that they owned together, not to mention the heartbreak and emotional issues he has caused. She accepted his requests but insisted the phone and reimbursement of the vehicle is what she wants. He ended up getting everything he wanted and then withdrew the offer to pay her back for the car. Her lawyer notified her and the *swear word*-sorry excuse of a human get to leave the marriage with everything he wanted.

Some Context:
My sister's husband walked out on their marriage. He left her in July for tiktok friends after joining a group in April. He would spend hours(5+) everyday with them and she started having issue with that. Understandably so. She grew tired of the fact that she had to go to bed by herself every night. She ultimately asked him to set boundaries and he chose the 4month friend circle over their 11 year relationship.

The Situation:
He left their marital home and right on her birthday a few days later his lawyer sent her a formal request for his stuff. She went to lawyer up herself. After debating she decided that all she wanted was for him to not cancel the final year of her phone contract and for him to pay her for her car that he sold to buy their shared vehicle the year before. That's all she wanted. He left with the car, all the valuable appliances and her heart.
Here is what is so unfair. Their respective lawyers were handling both requests on their behalf, as lawyers do.
My sister's lawyer accepted all of her husband's requests basically convincing my sister that it would be over with quicker if they do. The husband himself (through correspondence) initially said he would pay her for her car or she can have the current car if she takes over the monthly installments. The next correspondence the offer changed and the current car was no longer offered and the amount to be paid changed from R50k to R40k. Then after that he changed it once again stating that he will give her R40k minus the full price of her cellphone. The phone was 2years old already and just under a year left on the contract. The audacity.
She accepted his initial demands and he kept revising his counter offers. As soon as my sister accepted his final demand, the husband withdrew the offer and issued for divorce proceedings. Basically leaving her with nothing but her legal fee. We can discuss all day long how sus this guy is being. How absolutely disgusting a person needs to be to be this crooked and shameless but that's not going to change anything.

Additional info:
Meanwhile her husband and his group tiktok friends are bashing her on TT lives and saying the rudest things. We received video evidence of this through an anonymous stranger.
My sister is pure, naive and just the kindest person. They talk about her in the vilest way. She is only guilty of asking her husband to set boundaries and to be present. He is so angry at her and i have no idea why he thinks he gets to be upset, he literally was the one that left. See he is upset that she wants the money for her car that he sold. In fact he called her greedy and said she is milking him. She didn't even want alimony or all the other things people usually request in a divorce. My sister spent 70% of her salary on their marriage and it turns out he wasnt even paying the full rent which was his responsibility. They stayed in one of my parent's properties. They let it slide, since he faked being such an upstanding guy. What he really is, is a skelm, taking advantage and skimming people from their belongings. I would name and shame the scum if it wouldn't get me into trouble

The lawyer:
This must be the most embarrassing excuse for a lawyer, how do you negotiate everything in favour of the other party. He didn't fight for her nor counter or anything. I am so confused. How do you take money and then hand everything over. That's not how you lawyer!

My sister learnt a very cruel lesson. To all the woman and men out there who blindly trust everything in your spouse's control. Stop. No matter how sure you are or how real it feels, it can change any moment. These 2 were discussing children not even a month before all of this. She really thought they were fine. So make sure you have access to your finances if shared. in her case her money was theirs and his was his. she had to ask permission to buy beauty products which he would say no to btw and then he would buy an xbox. You can easily be blinded by "love"
This person can call it quits in a moment.

Discussion Imported bike, no papers

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I have a question for the bikers Community in South Africa.

I'm currently looking for a bike as I recently got my learners and I have a small budget as I have no help for paying for it. It took me 3 years to save up R20k.

I have been looking on Facebook, Gumtree and everywhere else. I came across many bikes. Recently I found a Yamaha TZR 250 3ma. I know I'm a youngster but I really enjoy that 90's and early 2000's bike look and don't want the normal Suzuki GSXR 150F or a Honda CBR 125. I really want a classic bike even though carbs need consistent cleaning and parts are hard to find.

The Yamaha TZR 250 was imported a few years back. The current owner has no papers however he showed a cold start and that the bike is in good condition. My only issue is I know it is difficult to re-register a bike that is imported and there are no papers such as a Proof of Purchase or licencing papers. I want to ask him for less than what he wants which is R25k to R30k my only issue is I need more money to pay for papers and registration. I want to bring him to about R18k so I have spending money.

Any suggestions on what to do and any help would be great. I have wanted a bike for 4 years now and have only my partner who can help a bit. I would also like to join a group later once I feel more comfortable and I have done so much research on the bike itself and being more understanding of how bikes work, research in how to work on them and general events in Cape Town.

Thank you to all who can help.
