OpenPrintTag upgrade for CORE One/L

  • Automatic setup and preheat
    • Insert the filament and the printer reads the material and color from the tag, then starts heating to the target temperature. No more printing with the wrong filament!
    • There is also a warning if you start a print and there might not be enough material on the spool for it
  • Remaining material tracking
    • The printer writes the remaining material amount back to the tag. You always know how much is left on the spool before starting your next print.
  • Easy to install
    • Remove the spool holder, mount the reader, plug the cable into the xBuddy board and screw the holder back on.

Filament warehouse

  • On both printables, and in the Prusa App, you can now catalog your spools digitally. This is a convenient way to keep track how much material and of what type you have available. If a spool is partially used, it will also be reflected here too.
  • From the release notes:
    • Material database: a built-in material database with predefined materials and their properties.
    • Material per printer tool: assign a specific material to each printer tool, so every toolhead knows exactly what it is loaded with.
    • Favorite materials: mark the materials you use most as favorites for quicker access.
    • Spool management: keep track of your spools, including what is loaded where and what is in stock.
    • Custom materials: create your own materials with custom settings when the database does not cover your needs.
    • Material consumption tracking: monitor how much material your prints use over time. Consumption is also tracked per spool, and if both your printer and spool support NFC, the remaining amount is written directly to the spool’s NFC tag.

FAQ

  • The app update states it requires 8.0.0 firmware but we are on 7.0.0 now?
    • Correct, this update will be made available soon
  • Does this work on my INDX/XL/MMU?
    • No, we plan to add a variation for multi-spool printers in the near future however
  • Does this work with the USS drybox?
    • Yes, the reader can still spool through it
  • Will there be Slicer integration with this?
    • More on that soon :-)

Question/Need help Though time for Prusa

The MK4S kit is $709. The fairly new Bambu Lab X2DC with AMS combo is $789.

I’m not sure how Prusa can compete with this. I wish they could, because I love them, but the competition is getting really hard!

Well, I guess I can re-print it...

Is the model on printables already?

EDIT: The model is not available publicly and support is not sure when / if it will be available. I will get a replacement. Eh, I had hoped to have it in orange for nice contrast

Should I? Or should I not?

So, just received my INDX after probably 8 months or so of delays and nonsense. Posting because I've seen so many mixed reviews at this point that I almost don't even want to put it on, just turn the other way, return it, and get a Snapmaker U1 or something...

Currently have an MK4s, Core one+, Anycubic Kobra Max 3, and a Core One Oak (This is more of a collection piece, I've only printed a couple things on it). I also have some other printers but the ones are the ones currently in the house and not storage.

Im a software engineer by trade, so needless to say what Josef Prusa has done for open source FDM I respect and greatly appreciate, but, I've had terrible issues with my core one + the last few months, my MMU3 on my mk4s literally took the better part of 8 months to finally get working right, and I just don't know if the Indx is even worth it at this point.

Any input from anyone with the INDX upgrade, or anything helpful at all really about whether or not to stick with Prusa or just worry about getting something that works when I need it to work.. Because I need it to work when I need it to work.

Print of the Month I've printed 98 fidget toys (so far) for Halloween Trick-or-Treaters

In preparation for the US Halloween holiday where kids go door to door in costume expecting candy, I'm adapting to the US economy's current sky high candy prices (especially chocolate) by offering something different. For those who choose, I have a variety of 3d printed fidget toys - spinning rings and infinity cubes each in an assortment of different colors. I've been printing batches that maxed out the print area on my MK4S.

Bonus picture: golden skulls using the Eryone silk gold filament I recently won in a contest here on Reddit

Anyone else constantly put off (for weeks) for warranty claims by Prusa?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Around five weeks ago, one of my Prusa XL's bearings failed and I contacted Prusa support. After hearing literally only positive things about them, I was honestly curious whether the support would be THAT second-to-none good. And yes, I had a great talk with a competent person and we agreed to swap a few parts, which should probably solve the issue. I got a confirmation that the parts are kinda on the way and that I would get more details on the shipment "in the next days".

That was five WEEKS ago. Since then, I've contacted support a couple of times to get an update on the parts. Every time it was a nice "oh, we are sorry... don't know what takes so long... logistics... BUT the parts will be on the way in a few days".

More days and weeks passed, as did one of the hotend thermistors, which then put my printer completely out of order a week ago. Same procedure:

"Hi, I have a problem with... also, I've been waiting for my parts, or AT LEAST an update, for like a month."

"Oh, sorry to hear that... sure, let me see, hmm, will be on the way in the next days."

(SpongeBob narrator: "A few days later")

No parts, no update, no printer, but a nasty uni thesis deadline for which I kinda needed (and need, lol) a printer. So same chat again.

"Hi, it's getting frustrating..."

"Oh, sorry to hear that... sure, let me see, hmm, I see it's been a while."

"You don't say..."

"I will get back to you later today via mail with an update."

(SpongeBob narrator: "Later today")

Nothing.

And it really begins to absolutely bother me. That's literally a 5 grand printer with the enclosure, less than 2 years old. When my 250 EUR Bambu A1 broke, before I replaced it with the XL, it took two days to ship the parts and 2–3 days for them to arrive. Without days of begging, reminding, etc. Is this considered "usual"? Or am I just too impatient?

Also, it really bothers me to do the "Karen wants to speak to the community manager" move, but honestly, I literally cannot afford (time- and money-wise) to have a 40 kg brick in my living room that should kinda do university stuff for me. I mean, it's not a machine that has been out of warranty for 5 years or so. It's literally a warranty claim (or now two).

Also, don't get me wrong, I enjoy using the XL more than any of the like 5 printers I've had in the last few years, and I fully support Prusa as a company. But I would just be thankful to have the printer working again. Colleagues were kinda surprised, since usually (at least when they had problems a few years ago) the issues were solved kinda instantly. Selling the XL and switching back to Bambu Lab is also an option, but I'm not really considering it at this point, since the XL was a long-term dream of mine. But if it's not possible to fix minor technical stuff under warranty in less than a month, I'd probably be better off selling it before something more important fails at some point.

So yeah... any help would be appreciated. Or any hints on how to contact Prusa in a way that actually leads to progress. Or maybe someone from Prusa support sees this and has an idea of what went wrong here.

Question/Need help Anyone else still waiting for their XL+ upgrade kit?

When I ordered on the day it was announced. the website said 2 week lead time. ok that's fair.

Well, we're on week 9 now, with zero communication and still no shipping date or info.

Definitely not happy with how Prusa handles these product releases and wish they would change how they operated, in order to provide better transparency.

It's shipping! Decided to wait for the black Friday deal and free shipping, glad I did. Eventually I'd like to get the 4 head INDX upgrade kit. Is this more expensive than your typical core XY? Absolutely! And for people who really want a cheap multi tool head, I think printers like the Snapmaker u1 are great. But for future upgrading and long term reliability, you just can't beat Prusa.

Question/Need help Settings for PLA supports on PETG model on indx.

Im happy with the multi colour and singlebmaterial printing but ive got a couple of models planned that would really benefit with using PLA supports with PETG for the print due to overhangs.

Does anyone have any settings or tip?

Solved✔ Grinding noise when lowering bed

When a print finishes the bed has an awful grinding noise when it lowers. I don't particularly remember it being this bad prior to the firmware update 7.0.0, but it is definitely more noticeable. Do I need to grease something somewhere?

I knew it wouldn't be shipped on time, but its not as bad as I was expecting... I was sure it would get pushed into January!

I suppose I really should find some room for this.... and the filament dryers :)

Problems with the MMU3 filament loading

I'm having lots of problems with the filaments not loading properly they are not lining up with the filament selector. Is there a secret of how to cut the filament ends to make sure they go in the right way? I have a MK4S with the MMU3 that I assembled from a kit.

A harsh buzzing during travel moves on the CORE One

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TL;DR: Drop your travel speed from 350mm/s to 330mm/s to mostly avoid a horrible new buzzing sound during travel moves.

The attached video shows the new buzzing that only occurs during travel moves under very precise circumstances. The video doesn't do it justice with how loud and harsh it is.  I levitated out of my chair the first time it happened, right after doing the Gen2 upgrade on my CORE One+.

I've been studying this off and on for nearly 2 months now, trying to figure out what exactly is resonating and, more importantly, how to stop it.  It turns out that it's caused by a firmware bug that hit the CORE One in version 6.8.1.  It's triggered by a bizarre sequence of events in both hardware and firmware. I don't know how common this buzzing is, but I've found at least one other person with it on Printables.

If you really must know, here is what needs to happen to trigger it:

  • Perform Input Shaper calibration with the accelerometer, resulting in Y: MZV 45.2Hz (Increased to this value for me with 1.5GT belts.  Factory default Input Shaper settings can't trigger it.)
  • Set travel moves to 350 mm/s (PrusaSlicer default)
  • Set Z travel lifts to a ramping slope of 1° (PrusaSlicer default)
  • Have a travel move during a print that is inclined 1.25° from either the X or Y axis

When you have all of the above, this sequence of events happens in the firmware during a print:

  • During the Z lift, all moves are broken up into ~0.05 mm Z segments as an emergency-stop threshold.  At the above speeds and directions, this results in each segment taking about 8.3 ms.
  • Floating-point rounding errors at the junction between these segments leads to super-tiny accelerations every ~8.3 ms.
  • The MZV Input Shaper algorithm breaks every acceleration up into three smaller copies, spaced 8.34 ms apart (due to the Y shaper tuning of 45.2 Hz)
  • These ~8.3 ms emergency-stop segments fall short of these Input Shaper echo lengths by 20-40 us.
  • The Input Shaper echo spacing leads to a sequence of commands sent to the motors with sub-50 us duration (with some rounded down to zero length).
  • Phase Stepping sends commands to the motors on precise 50 us intervals
  • The firmware bug now limits the Phase Stepping to process only one motion target at a time in each 50 us window, regardless of length.
  • This burst of short segments makes the stepper motors fall behind and then snap forward, once every ~8.3 ms.
  • This introduces impulses to the printer frame at about 120.5 Hz, with many higher harmonics.
  • The second harmonic of this, at about 241 Hz, excites a natural resonance of the print head/gantry, amplifying the sound into a loud buzz.

A bug report about this has been submitted to Prusa, along with two patches that fix it.  I have no idea if or when this will get fixed in an official firmware release.  In the meantime, if you are experiencing this buzzing, you can dial down your travel speed in the slicer to mostly hide it. Reducing from 350 mm/s to 330 mm/s seems fairly reliable for me, but other printers might need something different.

Question/Need help Help with profile?

Hello, I brand new to all of this so I apologize for probably sounding like an idiot, I really want to get into 3d printing but apparently picked the printer thats the hardest to install? (Flashforge creator pro 2)

I saw someone made a profile of it on GitHub with detailed instructions on how to install it with Python an all of that, but truthfully i didn't understand a single word.

So what I've come here to ask is if anyone would take the time of day to make a video or visual reference for the instructions so I can understand it easier, it would mean the whole world to me 😭 ❤️ I don't understand the whole "Python" app thing

INDX How long are you waiting for a defective INDX toolhead

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

Hi,

I finished upgrading my Core one to INDX on October 12th, but I'm having an issue with my INDX toolhead where the load cell functionality is very noisy and is defective. This makes it unable to complete offset calibration. Prusa sent out a new cable, but that did not resolve the issue.

I have continued to chat with Prusa about this and now I need to return the toolhead. They have said it takes 5 - 7 business days to even get a return shipping label. It's now been 8 days, and all the chat can tell me is I need to wait several more days for somebody to email me from [info@prusa3d.com](mailto:info@prusa3d.com)

This has been a very frustrating experience. Anyone else having this issue? Here's the YouTube video I recorded earlier: https://youtube.com/shorts/sx-Vb1dN_Bg

400C hotend for PPS-CF

We've just ordered the high end hot end for our work printers (Core one L) and looking to use it to print PPA-CF and PPS-CF.

Has anyone had their 400C high temp hot end arrive yet and tried it on PPS or PPA?

In theory it should work, but chamber temp seems to be the weak point with the Core One L.

I ported PrusaSlicer 3.0 to Android – native APK, no Linux container (x86_64 + ARM)

I wanted PrusaSlicer on my Googlebook, so I ported the 3.0 alpha to Android as a real app. It’s not a remote desktop and not a Linux/X11 container: PrusaSlicer’s own interface runs natively on OpenGL ES.

What works:

Open models (Files app, “Open with”, share, drag & drop), slice, G-code preview, export

Prusa Account login, Prusa Connect and Printables. “Open in PrusaSlicer” puts the model straight on the bed.

Preferences, preset comparison, unsaved-changes dialog

Touchpad: pinch to zoom, two-finger swipe to pan or scroll lists

Two APKs:

x86_64: Googlebooks and other x86 devices. This is what I used.

arm64: phones, tablets, ARM Chromebooks. So far I’ve only tested it in the emulator. If you have a device with a Mali, Exynos, Snapdragon, Tensor or Adreno , I’d love to hear whether it starts and renders correctly. Screenshots of any glitches help a lot.

Limits: based on an alpha, sideload only, the APK is about 260 MB.

APKs and source (AGPL): https://github.com/NilsN3DP/prusaslicer-android-gbos/releases

Feedback welcome!

Build plate for Core One L

I usually buy build plates for my Core One+ from AliExpress. For that I use ads for BambuLab A1 build plates.
Question for the community: Is anyone here buying build plate for Core One L from AliExpress? And if yes, how are you looking for plates? only by size or are you using a specific printer model for search?
Because reality is, looking for Prusa printers build plate we do not find many options available. but when we expand the search for other print models, we can find.

Thank you,

Printer Mod CORE One ASA Appreciation Post

I’ve had issues in the past with ASA and the C1 with warping parts, even with long heat soaks. The smaller bed size makes it time consuming to get the chamber temp above 50 and there didn’t seem to be enough brim in the world available to keep larger footprint items from warping.

Well, over the last month or so the C1 has been pressed back into service for ASA as my Voron is down and my H2D really sucks at ASA overhangs.

A few months ago I laser cut a new side panel from steel and created a mount for a BTT PandaBreath. Using open source alternative firmware for it (Dragonbreath) I was a Guinea pig for an integration to the PrusaLink API where it can automatically turn the chamber heater on and off based off the bed temp and pre-set chamber target.

It’s like I got a whole new printer! It gets to 55C fast, no warping, 20 minutes from cold to heat soaked and I start printing. On top of that, the overhangs are flawless. Parts that my H2D cannot print without HIPS support are coming out flawless on my C1.

Is anyone printing ASA with their CORE One and INDX? I just got delivery notification it should be here this week.
