Polish literature recommendations

I was planning to read Tokarczuk for a while, after seeing her books everywhere in the UK and being intrigued by her plots. However, her use of AI and then her attempts to backtrack and gaslight people with her public statement really put me off.

What other Polish literature do you guys recommend? I'm a big fan of classics and modern classics, but any recommendations are appreciated.

27 years later I've made an actual game (and now it's going digital)

Dzien dobry everyone,

My name is André, I'm Portuguese and I'm living in Poland for almost 10 years.

This post is kind of a follow-up.

Some time ago, I shared a post or two here on this sub about the development of this game. I told the story that when I was 8 years old, I started making a card game that I never managed to finish (very inspired by Pokémon, during the craze back then). 27 years later, I've finally committed to make a card game from the beggining until the end, playtesting it countless times with a couple of friends in boardgame bars in Warsaw. Now it's also going digital (online)!

It's a strategy game that can be played with up to 4 players (though the online version is only 1v1). The goal is to destroy your opponent's Capital before they destroy yours. It was inspired by other popular card games like Magic and Pokémon (among others), but it has quite a few mechanics of its own, such as strategic positioning of Kravers (creatures), side effects (recoil damage, Exhausted, Wasted and Overdosed), the use of D20s, variable limits on the number of creatures in play, hand size and HP assymetries a hybrid resource system where you can draw cards and temporarily increase resource production by sacrificing cards, etc.

The game was originally designed to be Print & Play (and still is), but a few months ago, a friend of mine surprised me when he told me he was trying to implement the game online, with the help of AI-assisted coding. (Just to make it clear, the game itself was made 100% by humans. I came up with the rules, names and universe, and did all the illustrations myself. It was also tested in real life for over a year by my group of friends, and the card layouts, game logo and symbols were made by a Polish designer.)

The game is already working relatively well, it's played in the browser, and it's optimized for PC and tablets (the mobile version will be available really soon).

We're looking for more players to continue testing and improving the platform and the user experience. No previous experience is needed, we'd just like to have more people playing and get more feedback :)

The game platform uses Patreon authentication (the game itself doesn't ask for personal details or passwords), so you need to be a patron of the project. However, during this early stage, I'll be offering anyone interested a free one-year subscription as a thank-you for getting involved while the game is still at such an early stage.

If you're interested in being part of this project, just let me know in the comments or via PM and I'll send you the details in a private message! You can then play against the PC, your friends, or other players like me

Thanks in advance!

Moving to Kraków for work — which areas would you recommend renting in?

Hi everyone!

I might be moving to Kraków for a new job, and since I'm not very familiar with the city, I'd appreciate some advice from people who live there.

I'm currently based in Toruń, and this would be a pretty big move for me. I'm trying to figure out which neighbourhoods would be best to look for a room or a small apartment.

A few things I'm looking for:

  • Good public transport: I'd like to be able to commute to work without spending ages travelling every day.
  • Access to the city centre: I'd like to be able to go out, meet friends, visit cafés, and enjoy what Kraków has to offer without too much hassle.

I'd be especially grateful for recommendations on specific neighbourhoods or streets to look at, as well as areas you'd personally avoid when renting.

Is it worth paying extra to live close to the Old Town, or would you recommend living a bit further out and relying on public transport?

Any advice about rental prices, commuting, or finding accommodation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Mysterious InPost order.

I just now received a notification on InPost that an order is on its way to a delivery box in Wrocław. But I didn’t make any orders, and I have no one who shares my InPost account. What the hell’s going on, and what should I do?
