What's Happening? The abandoned Burger King in Laveen

I’m trying to see if anyone else remembers this, heard of it back then, or if I’m just nuts.

I grew up hearing from my grandpa that the ā€œfamousā€ abandoned Burger King over on 35th Ave and Broadway closed down because of "paranormal activity."
Allegedly, some kids were (getting lost?), getting possessed, hearing weird noises, and accusing of ghosts speaking to them— which is why they shut down.

I always assumed it was a made up story he told me when I was a kid to entertain me.
But recently I saw someone bring up the exact same rumor on Facebook, claiming it shut down because it was haunted.

I know it naturally looks creepy. But did anyone else grow up hearing actual ghost stories or urban legends about it? Or does anyone know where that specific rumor originally started in the community?

I’m not trying to be corny, but there’s no way I can be the only one who wonders this

Edit: I don’t know if it’s Laveen or what else to call it— it’s about 5 minutes away from my neighborhood Laveen so quite be it šŸ˜‚

History Help finding closed restaurant

Hello! I am looking for help on finding a restaurant that closed back in 2006-2007. The business currently occupying the space is called Tailgaters & IL Primo Tatum. It is off Tatum & Dynamite in Cave Creek. I know the address which is 28234 N Tatum Blvd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331. I have tried to go on Google Maps but it only goes back to 2016 unfortunately, for the life of me I cannot remember the name but feel like it;s on the tip of my tongue! I remember going there around 2004-2005, it had an island/rainforest theme to it & was American food. TYIA!!!!

Ask Phoenix OTA PBS channels quality

Over the past half a year or so, has anyone else had issues with PBS channels? I am in Glendale and constantly get artifacts, slowed/delayed audio. I double checked our antenna, and everything is fine, in fact PBS channels are the only ones with issues. Every other channel is crystal clear.

Ask Phoenix Where can I recycle compressed fiber that is used to insulate a package?

I take medication that has to be refrigerated. It’s shipped to me every month with ice packs and compressed fiber wrapped in plastic (which can be removed) that is used to insulate the package. I don’t want to throw the fiber in the landfill if it can be recycled, but I don’t know where to take it. It’s starting to pile up. Does anyone know where I can take it? Thank you!

First off is that what these are and second: do you guys treat for termites? Live in a 70s house I bought 6 years ago but never treated for termites.

Is this alarming or are they just everywhere?

Been going to Junn for a while and they have quickly become shit. Waited 25 minutes between orders. And management said thank you for the feedback.

I've tried #1 Sushi in the West valley. And Sakura( now renamed) off of Elliot road.

What are some other great ayce sushi?

Living Here What am I supposed to do with old electronics (that are not computers/modems/etc)?

I feel like I'm going crazy but these things aren't supposed to go in the trash. I'm talking about small, broken electronics like robot-vacuum, pet auto-feeder, small solar lawn lights. I have a big box full of things like this and all the info I find is for computers. The terms for Phoenix's hazardous waste says to only include items on the form and the form is very specific.

Any ideas, please?

Ask Phoenix Anyone know any thrift stores in the northwest valley that sell DVDs for $1 or $2?

The Savers near me is selling them for $4 now and Goodwill for $3.

Then I went to White Dove and they are selling them for $1 per disc. So most movies are $1 with some $2. So that got me wondering if there are any other non-corporate thrift stores near me that might also have really good prices. That price might even include blurays. I forgot to ask.

Referral Used (not running) car donations

I currently have a non-working 2007 Toyota Camry Solara that needs a good home. It's been sitting in my garage, unregistered for about 3 or 4 years. It probably just needs a full fluid change, brakes/rotors, new tires, a deep deep clean, and new gas. I just don't want to deal with it anymore. I'm very tired of looking at it.

I'm having a really hard time finding a reputable charity that will take these cars. Does anyone have any positive donation experiences that they can share?

Ask Phoenix Estate jewelry stores

I am an antique jewelry collector. I usually buy most of my pieces from Instagram. I know there are Nelson estate jewelers in Mesa and Estate Watch & Jewelry in Old town. Are there any other places you would recommend that are in the greater Phoenix area?

Commuting Witnessed this awful accident and rollover on 32nd St. just south of Lincoln today.

Post image
334 Upvotes

I was the 3rd car driving south after turning right from Lincoln, heading on 32nd towards Camelback. I saw this truck flipping in the air and rolling multiple times, after being struck or colliding with the other vehicle in front of the van, view obstructed.

I stopped and was able to see that the other vehicle was unidentifiable, due to the damage. 32nd street was closed for hours. I had to go pick up young kids from school so I had no idea how everyone fared. It did not look good.

Have not seen anything in the media on this

Outdoors Mountain Biking - New Here

Are there any like, easy, nice single track type trails? I’m from the Midwest, where I’m used to fast, forest dirt trails. I’m no expert by any means, more of a weekend warrior just to enjoy it. I used all trails to find ā€œeasyā€ trails today. Went out to Phoenix mountain preserve. I can flat out say what’s ā€œeasyā€ in Arizona would be moderate, if not maybe difficult in the Midwest. I headed out on the trail, then the signs disappeared, then i found myself going over massive rocks in clearly some sort of river wash. Then all of a sudden there was no trail, i was clipped in, and just fell over. Picked my bike up and went home, feeling pretty defeated.

Outdoors Best paved hilly running paths

To my fellow Phoenix runners: what are your favorite hilly running areas that are ideally paved sidewalks/streets? Located in North Phoenix but fine with driving a bit.
I’m training for the rock n roll half marathon which is about 270ft elevation gain.
TIA!

Things To Do AZ Science Center Planetarium

I was just in town and took my kids to the Science Center, including a planetarium show. I swear when I went as a kid back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s the planetarium always had a ā€œroller coasterā€ at the end of every show where it felt like you were flying around, so I was hyping my kids on that only for it to not be a thing! Does anyone else remember that, or am I making it up?

All that said, the Science Center was super nostalgic, the kids loved it, and yeah, the planetarium is still super cool, rollercoaster or not.

Party On Company halloween party outdoors in Phoenix, has anyone tried this?

Every year, our company ends up doing the same Halloween event in the break room. There's a potluck, a costume contest that barely gets any attention, and some basic decorations. It feels more like we're checking a box than actually celebrating.

This year, I would like to organise a proper Halloween party for around 100 employees somewhere in the Phoenix area. Our total budget is about $4,000 for the venue, food, and entertainment. I'm leaning toward an outdoor setup since October evenings are usually much nicer here, with Halloween-themed activities, a costume contest people would actually get excited about, and decent food.

Has anyone organised a company Halloween party that people genuinely enjoyed? I would love to hear what you planned and roughly how much it cost.

General Who else was traumatized by the giant nose they used to have at the science center as a kid?

The one there now is benign but I strongly recall being terrified of the one that you could throw tennis balls into and it would subsequently sneeze them back out at you giving you the jump scare of your life
