Student Budget Review Approval & Late Fees for Tuition?

Thumbnail

I am one of the unlucky people who have had their tuition on hold for the past couple of months. Funny enough on October 26th (the day after it was due) my financial aid finally updated. It says applied to my account but at the same time also says that it hasn't been applied to my account yet or disbursed.

I also submitted a Student Budget Review in August, and haven't had any update. Could this be why it sill says that it hasn't been applied? I'm trying to hold off to see if they approve or deny it, but at some point will they start charging late fees for not paying? I've never had a situation like this, and of course I've had no luck with the financial aid department. I don't really have the money to pay tuition costs + late fee charges.

Worst experience you'll ever have at ASU. He has more of an obvious interest in failing you than you learning and being successful in his class.

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew if student can use a classroom to play a video game for a bit if nobody else is using the room and/or the student uses the room after the classes for the day are over.

ASU Mastercard Foundation Innovation and Technology Scholarship For Africans

Hey everyone,
I applied for the ASU Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program back in September for the Innovation and Technology track (Computer Science). Given the usual timeline, interview invites should be rolling out around now (correct me if am wrong). Has anyone received an email for an interview, or even a rejection yet? Has anyone tried emailing them for an update, and did you get a response? Just trying to gauge where they are at with reviews. Also, if there are any past applicants or current scholars from last year's cohort here, do you remember exactly what week or date in October/November you received your interview email or status update? Thanks and good luck to everyone waiting!

How to be a part of MRI Research Studies?

I want an MRI of my brain. No hypochondria or medical anxiety. Just think it would be fun to have an MRI of my brain hahaha, and if I can help research studies/students at the same time, even better!

ASU set up an in-house payment plan for me, but a debt collector says I must pay them instead. What should I do?

I recently owed ASU an outstanding student account balance and received an email stating that my debt would be transferred to a collection agency.

Yesterday, I called ASU's financial department to resolve the issue. I specifically asked about avoiding outside collections, and the representative reviewed my account and set up an in-house monthly payment plan for me. I was told I was good to go, and I have already made my first payment.

However, I subsequently received a call from the collection agency. The representative told me that I had to proceed through them and claimed that the ASU employees I spoke with had incorrect information.

I explained that an ASU representative had personally updated my account and arranged the payment plan. The collection agency said they would contact ASU to clarify the situation.

I'm trying to pay my debt responsibly, but I'm concerned that I may have been given incorrect information by ASU.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Can ASU recall an account from collections after setting up an in-house payment plan? Should I contact ASU's Collections Office directly, and what should I do about my next payment while this is being sorted out?

I'd appreciate any advice from people who have dealt with ASU's Collections Office or a similar situation.

ASU shuttle driver just floored when a guy was putting his bike on the rack??

Just saw something wild at the light rail stop. A guy put his bike on the rack at the back of the shuttle, and as the driver was about to start to pull away he knocked on the door to get on. Instead of stopping, the driver floored it and laid on the horn loudly the whole way out.

Is it just me or are the ASU shuttle drivers super aggressive lately? This isn’t the first time I’ve seen one be rude to riders, but this was next level.

ASU alum looking for advice on getting tuition waived for masters (SCAI)

hey everyone!

i graduated from ASU with my undergrad in CS and i’m an international student. i’m planning to come back for my masters (fall 2027) and trying to figure out how to get some funding since tuition is a lot lol

for anyone who did their masters at ASU, especially in SCAI:

  • how did you get your tuition waived (any amount)? RA, TA, grader, fellowships, something else?
  • if you don’t mind sharing, how much got waived?
  • how did you land the opportunity? did a prof reach out, did you cold email, volunteer in a lab first?
  • any SCAI labs you know are well funded and actually hire masters students?
  • thesis vs non thesis, did it make a difference for funding?
  • when did you start getting funded? first semester or later?

any tips or experiences would honestly help a lot 🙏 my DMs are open too if you’d rather share privately

thanks in advance!

Extreme incidents at SAILS

Hi there Reddit and ASU, I wanted to make a post to see if anyone else has been having issues with SAILS like I have been? For context im 20, on the spectrum, have complex ADHD with a severe anxiety disorder and Tourette syndrome as well as 2 spinal fusions and 2 leg surgeries... Last semester during finals SAILS put me in a different building without notifying me on the day of the exam causing me to have to walk between both buildings several times. I was then given the wrong exam and halfway through completing it was told it was wrong and it was taken away from me and I was made to restart on the new exam which was double the length of the one taken from me! I was already stressed and the proctors literally sat at a nearby table and stared at me because I was ticking from my tourette's and I felt like a freak. Them during my other final the log on password wasn't working and I had to go wait in the hall for 15 minutes while the woman who was supposed to be fixing it chatted idly with others while occasionally trying to work on my issue. I was so stressed and had a horrible time of it.

I had then thought my troubles were over until last month during a chemistry exam I was accused of cheating.. CONTEXT: my father was on a business trip and I was anxious about his flight so I was checking my phone to see if he had landed yet. Anyways a proctor came in and ran over to where I was sitting and began rummaging through my belongings and when she didnt see my phone she grabbed me by the shoulder until I was too uncomfortable and had to acknowledge her presence.. she stared at me for minutes while I tried to idly work on my exam. Afterwards she pulled me into a small private room and told me I was being accused of cheating on the exam... she said if I needed to check my phone, I should have and I quote , "let the proctor use my phone to see if something comes up" which i was not okay with at all.. they told me to sort it out with my professor who didnt respond to my inquiries ever and I was told I now need to file an appeal.... my big question is I had a cheat sheet... why would I cheat on the exam? Anyways has anyone had a similar experience to me, please share down below if you have?

Can leaving at the end of class get me in trouble?

My professor always goes over time in one of my classes and in his syllabus it says if we walk out in the middle of class our attendance won’t count, but he goes over the set time of class. So if I walked out while he was still lecturing but the end time has passed, can I get in trouble?

AI grading

Does anyone know if professors have to tell us if they’re using AI to grade? I’ve gotten some very ChatGPT sounding feedback but it doesn’t state in the syllabus that the professor is using AI…

Anyone down to hit the Downtown Phoenix campus gym together?
I’ve been wanting to start going regularly, but honestly I’d rather have some company than work out alone 😂. Nothing super serious just looking for someone to work out with, stay consistent, and make the gym less boring.
If you’re at the Downtown campus and interested, hmu!

Any Advice?

I’m starting ASU Online next year, any advice for things I should know or have? I’m not sure what to expect, and I won’t be on campus, I’m in another state.

Edit: My major is in Forensic Science - Death Investigations, yes I already have all the advice I need for the labs I have to do but thanks :)

Supply chain management majors

Hey SCM people at asu! I was thinking of switching over to SCM. I just had a question, how much are you making now? How easy was it for you to find a job? Were internships easy to get into? How did asu leverage your success in the job market for SCM? I’m trying to work a Fortune 500 company with enough hard work, so your insight would really help

I cannot stand Harmonize!!!!

Does anyone else have problems with it?? I swear more than once I have typed up a post or comment and as soon as I click publish it gets deleted. Or reloads back to its “last auto save” where I maybe typed 5 words. I normally use Firefox but have also tried Chrome and it does the same thing.

I started typing my posts/comments in word then just copy paste over to Harmonize. But my dumbass went a few minutes without remembering how shitty Harmonize is and I just lost a well thought out post because of the stupid auto-save, delete-everything-you-just-typed shit that Harmonize keeps doing to me.

Best cultural clubs to join at ASU?

I want to get out of my comfort zone and explore different cultures at ASU and meet some new people! Does anyone have any recommendations on which cultural clubs are fun, welcoming, and wholesome to join based on your experiences, and ones to avoid (like the overly cliquey ones)?

ASU Global Career Accelerator

Hello, I was doing some light research and looking around in the subreddits and I was curious to know if any engineering majors have done this Global Career Accelerator class.

Was it at all helpful, and if it was in what ways was it helpful?

Did taking this class make it easier for anyone to get internships/engineering jobs?

I’ve seen people saying that if you’re already full time it won’t cost anything. Is this true? If you had to pay for this class how much did it cost?

For anyone who took it, could you put this on your resume and talk about it as if it were a true internship (like how it’s being advertised) or is it more like skills you acquired?

I haven’t spoken to an advisor yet. Apologies if a lot of these questions were already answered, however I am really curious to know the experiences of engineering majors specifically with this Global Career Accelerator class.
