What is your worst pet peeve regarding coworkers who steal lunches from the fridge?

My worst pet peeve has to be when a coworker swipes your lunch from the office fridge and then acts like nothing happened when you ask around about it. Last month I brought in a container of leftover chili that I had spent time making the night before. I left it on the second shelf with my name written on the lid in marker. By lunchtime the whole thing was gone and someone had even tossed the empty container back in the trash like they were doing me a favor.

What gets to me most is not just the theft itself but the way these people never own up to it. You end up standing there hungry while everyone else pretends they did not see anything. One time I had to run out and buy a sad gas station sandwich because my planned meal disappeared again. It threw off my whole afternoon and made me feel like I could not even trust the basic setup at work anymore.

I have tried little things like putting a note on my food or using a locked lunch bag but nothing seems to stop it for long. Some folks just keep doing it and the rest of us end up paying for replacements or going without.

Have you noticed any patterns with who tends to take things or how people react once they get caught? I would like to hear what your worst pet peeve is in these situations and whether anything actually worked to cut down on it.

When people assume that because I don’t post about politics on my personal social media, I’m either uninformed or complicit.

• Upvotes

I had someone message me about me not posting on social media about certain political events and wrongdoings of the government. That really rubbed me the wrong way and isn’t the first time this person has said this or started posting passive aggressive stories about people not speaking out and advocating on social media, directly after confronting me about it. This is family, so I can’t really cut them off or restrict their access to my stuff without making things weird.

I feel like I should be allowed to have a personal social media account that isn’t centered around politics. Not posting about something doesn’t mean I don’t care about it, don’t have opinions on it, or don’t educate myself on what’s happening.

I just find it weird that people think they can determine someone’s level of awareness or how much they care about something based on what they see on their Instagram story. That bit feels a little performative at a point. They won’t recognize that there are plenty of ways to make a difference outside of posting on social media. I vote, donate to causes i believe in, support people who are directly affected, have conversations with people in my life and have supported and participated in the peaceful protests in my area.

I understand wanting people to speak up about things that matter, but I don’t think posting about every issue should be the standard by which we measure whether someone cares. Idk. Big pet peeve.

Why do bookstores do this?

It irritates me and seems like a waste when bookstores who can't sell a certain paperback book will tear off the front cover before giving the books away. I suppose they do it so no one can resell them, but it really disfigures the book and makes it less enjoyable to hold and read.

How Nit Picky Trucks Are About Your Having To Spend Hours Strapping Down Everything For The Cargo To Not Fly Off

I suspect this one will elicit much eye rolling, so be it.

I'm not a daily pickup truck driver, most days I drive a small car, but I do have a truck after years of not having one and for a long time I've appreciated how now having one enables me to haul bulky items I couldn't in the past.

However, anymore I'm to the point of thinking I should've gotten a van instead, because good grief are those things picky about requiring you to spend ridiculous amounts of time strapping the items in else they'll fly off at any speed over 3 mph. For me, I actually find myself saying "I didn't TELL you to do that, who TOLD you to do that," and I'm being absolutely serious.

I don't mind doing a quick 1-2 straps here and there, but for certain items I swear you'll spend 3-4 minutes putting it in the bed of the truck and 34 dozen HOURS strapping it in. That's ridiculous. It shouldn't take so long.

If this is why some company vehicles are vans, I can see why. Once you put the item in, you shut the door and THAT'S IT. I've got better things to do with my life than spending seemingly half the day strapping in something I spent 4 minutes loading. Good grief, stop flying off unless I TELL you to do it. I don't care about the laws of physics, REWRITE the laws of physics, but STOP flying out just because I didn't call in sick for my job and make loading you my very LIFE.

I guess I need to stop watching those old cartoons, they got me believing some goofy stuff.

When you’re excited to tell someone something and they hit you with “I know”

This is such a pet peeve of mine. Like, I’m excited to share something with you and you hit me with the most nonchalant “I know” ever. Okay, now I don’t even wanna tell you anymore lmao. Why do you have to kill the vibe?

Sometimes it comes off as so dismissive and arrogant. You could literally just say “oh yeah, I saw that too!” There’s a difference between letting someone know you already know and making them feel stupid for sharing.

Even when I already know something, I still act interested because I can tell the other person is excited to tell me. Sometimes it’s not even about the information, they just wanna share something with you.

Does anyone else find this annoying or am I just being dramatic? lol

Excuse me?

You know the type, talks loud sometimes, needs things repeated. That's me, and Jerry Seinfeld too.

Why do I always have to say “excuse me” when I can't hear what someone is saying? Why? Am I guilty? Did I inconvenience you? “Excuse me? Pardon me? I'm sorry?” Why can't I just say, “Nope. Not loud enough.”

So, as a fan, I gave it a try, just a blunt, “Nope, not loud enough.” It's surprisingly usable in a public-facing service role.

Here's another one. “Hey, use your outside voice.”

In regular conversation, the first one doesn't come across as rude as you might think. The second is bound to draw an eye roll, but it gets the job done. The catch is, they may start talking to you in a loud, slow, mocking tone from that point on. Apparently, if you can't hear them, the next step is to find out if you can understand them.

Edit; Having pilfered the joke, I wanted to try out my alternative punch line and report on my IRL experience. U thought it necessary to cite the source, since that's where I got the idea. I wasn't aware it was in the public domain, and wound up in this strange position.

People seem to do obvious loud exaggerated coughing as soon as they walk past me?

Not sure why this happens to me everytime I head out for a walk to the shops or something, it's very confusing and it makes me think something is really wrong with my appearance.

If you have brown/dark brown eyes and wear light colored contacts you look absolutely ridiculous

Unless you're dressed as a werewolf for Halloween or doing a Thriller flash mob please stop. Brown and dark brown eyes are just as beautiful as light-colored eyes, please embrace them, and guess what? We can still see your brown eyes under the contacts and it looks dumb as hell, please stop ~ Sincerely, everyone

People who go in public knowingly sick!

The title pretty much says it all. What is it with sick people have disregard for the general publics wellbeing? It's seriously disgusting and I am starting to find people like this to be some of the worst humans on the planet.

Let me clarify by saying I am not talking work, that is different. I understand most people CANNOT afford to miss work or take off. This is strictly directed at people who knowing are sick going into public social settings for fun and or for things that can clearly be put off until they are better or use modern technology to overcome such as dashing for groceries...

For the better part of a year I have been healthy and not even a cough or scratchy throat. Then against my better judgement I decided to go to friends Halloween party and boom 3 days later I am as sick as sick can be. Come to find out not only did an activity sick person go but a whole group of this person's coworkers came and they were all sick too. Like what the fuck goes through people's heads are they that up to drink and party in bullshit costumes they just disregard everyone else? It's ridiculous imo and I ended up reaching out to the host who not only knew these people were sick and didn't uninvite them but actively encouraged them to bring more friends there. Now I am contemplating cutting this friend off because I think that's just crazy behavior.

This is why everyone gets sick especially this time of year, because idiots can not sit one fucking party out and it's seriously one giant petpeeve!

"_ AM in the morning"

This pisses me off so bad. For example "I had to wake up at 8 AM in the morning." Does the use of AM not imply that it was in the morning?
