Question Should I upgrade my rtx 2070 super to 5070 ti?

I have a 1440p (2K) monitor, and my graphics card just isn't cutting it for today's games—for example, I’m getting 40 fps in *Monster Hunter Wilds* and 45 fps in *007: First Light* (with settings on medium/low; and yes, I know these games are poorly optimized).

The reason I’m hesitant is the pricing—I know prices are only going to keep rising—but for some reason, I feel like I should wait... in case a better new graphic card releases "5070 ti super"...

My plan also involves building a PC from scratch, so I could just as well wait for the new processors to be released.

Benchmarks Pro 7i Gen 10: Performance vs Balanced vs Quiet

• Upvotes

I've had my Pro 7i Gen 10 (16IAX10H, Ultra 9 275HX, RTX 5080 175W, 32GB, 240Hz OLED) for about a year and a half. I always wondered how much I actually lose in Balanced and Quiet, so I ran the same tests in all three modes with HWiNFO logging every 2 seconds.

Setup: plugged in, dGPU mode (MUX), driver 621.01, laptop raised on a stand with the stand's fans OFF. Noise measured with a phone app at 30 cm (not calibrated, so trust the differences more than the absolute numbers).

| Test | Performance | Balanced | Quiet |

|---|---|---|---|

| 3DMark Steel Nomad | 5,249 | 3,950 (-25%) | 3,455 (-34%) |

| Wukong benchmark, Cinematic, DLSS 67%, FG on (avg FPS) | 108-111 | 81 | 69 |

| Cyberpunk 2077 RT Ultra, FG off (avg FPS) | 80.6 | 56.7 | not run |

| GPU power (Wukong avg) | 159W | 89W | 68W |

| GPU temp (avg) | 85°C | 72°C | 67°C |

| CPU temp (avg) | 100°C | 88°C | 71°C |

| Noise @ 30 cm (room 28 dB) | 47.8 dB | 42.0 dB | 34.4 dB |

What surprised me:

- The 175W is real: Steel Nomad averaged 172W, and my score was within 0.5% of the average for this CPU/GPU combo.

- After ~6 minutes of gaming the GPU hits its 87°C target and drops to ~160W. That costs about 3% FPS (111 -> 108 in Wukong). Small, but it's there.

- In Performance mode the CPU sits at 100-105°C while gaming, with thermal throttle flags on most of the time. In GPU-bound games it barely affects FPS, but Balanced brings it down to 88°C.

- Quiet mode is way more usable than I expected: 66% of the Steel Nomad score at 44% of the GPU power, and only ~6 dB above my quiet room.

Without frame gen, Wukong in Performance does 67 FPS avg / 58 FPS 5% low, so FG adds about 61-66%.

Things I haven't tested yet: battery life and surface temperatures. Happy to run something specific if anyone's curious.

Question Help to choose gpu

Post Body:

Hey everyone,

I’m buying components for a workstation setup for VFX compositing (Nuke), 3D (Blender), and AI workflows (ComfyUI).

Different local shops offered me these GPU options:

PNY GeForce RTX 5060 Ti OC (16GB)

Gigabyte RTX 5070 (12GB)

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 (8GB)

Colorful RTX 5060 Ti (8GB)

My Confusion:

VRAM vs Raw Processing Power: For ComfyUI (large SDXL / Flux checkpoints) and heavy Blender scenes, is the PNY 5060 Ti 16GB a better pick due to having extra VRAM, or is the RTX 5070 12GB worth choosing for its faster raw GPU core performance?

Is 8GB out of the question: Should I completely eliminate the 8GB cards (5060 / 5060 Ti 8GB) for this kind of creative workload?

Which card makes the most sense for this setup? Thanks for the advice!

(Warning for all those planning to play Phantom Blade Zero on an NVIDIA GPU. "We discovered that NVIDIA's latest 621.01 driver exhibits unstable performance)

And this is what they recommended for you to do

(we found that driver version 617.42 currently provides the best compatibility with Phantom Blade Zero. If you've already updated to a version newer than 617.42, you can select the corresponding older version from NVIDIA's recent driver releases and perform a clean reinstall. Alternatively, you can wait for NVIDIA's next driver update, which we believe will be released soon.)

x64 (GeForce) Download Link: Link Here (x64) <--- Use this if you have regular x86-64 PC/Laptop

arm64 (RTX Spark) Download Link: Link Here (RTX Spark arm64) <--- Use this for RTX Spark laptops

Reminders:

  • Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
  • After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App may show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
  • If you do not care about the fixes listed, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 621.01 Driver.
  • These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release

An NVIDIA driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.  Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases.

This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.

The NVIDIA Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.

To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.  As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.
