Fit Feedback is this too casual for a networking event

Post image

Navy suit I got fitted at H.M Cole, no tie, brown suede shoes and a matching belt. its a solid go to for me and honestly i love this fit, feels put together without trying too hard.

Going to a networking mixer type thing next week thats business casual on the invite.

Is this too relaxed for that or does navy no tie still read professional enough. might add a pocket square if that tips it over

Discussion Can we talk about the ultra casual dress code?

It's obviously that people are dressing more and more casual nowadays. Throughout the years I have learned how to dress well, but most of the guides lean towards formal dressing. What we think that are casual, are actually considered as formal by most people. Even that I am wearing a overshirt, plain t-shirt, chinos and leather sneakers, people think that my outfit is too dressy. I just realize that I can't dress well without slightly overdress everyone else. Can we talk about how to dress well in ultra casual attire?

Tryna dress like Jorgen from fairly odd parents for a house party but wanted to be fashionable and make pants baggy. My jeans might be too baggy?

Obviously doesnt include the newbalances, white hair, and crown. And my earrings.

Is the baggy doing too much?

Question Pants with lining on the inside for Winter.

Any suggestions? Im in a cold Canadian city. Have to be outside for 15 mins or so a couple times a day for work. Sometimes walking through snow. Then the majority of the day is inside. Dont wanna overheat while sitting inside. Water repellent or resistance is a plus. Could be cargo pants but I prefer not. Black is the uniform color.

Styling Advice Socks and belt for a beige suit - wich colour?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’d like to wear the beige suit shown in the photo to a wedding, paired with white sneakers. Now, however, I need a belt and socks to go with it. I’m not really sure what color I should choose for both? Brown belt and beige or white socks?

Styling Advice Tie colour choice

Attending a wedding, need some guidance on what colour tie to wear. Not allowed any green or red for context.

I tried navy blue and then got AI to try orange aswell. Either choose between those or suggest a new colour? Thanks

Ignore green cuffs, it’s a tester shirt to see what size I needed to get and they colour code the sleeves

Styling Advice How can I make loose pants tighter without a belt?

Not sure if this is the right sub for this, I apologize if it isn’t.

I have a Halloween costume that has pants that are slightly too big. It has belt loops, but the outfit doesn’t have a belt and it looks stupid no matter which belt I try on. I can wear the pants without a belt, but they are just slightly too big to be comfortable.

Are there any quick tips to get them a little tighter? I own a sewing kit if that is an option.

Edit: my shirt will be tucked in, so I’m trying to avoid something that stands out if possible

Question Funnel Neck Leather Jackets for Men?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I was looking for a Funnel Neck Leather Jackets, I’m sure people have seen this around. Other terms were “Viral Zara leather jacket”, but…it’s a woman’s jacket.

After more searching, this style of oversized, Funnel Neck and shorter cut leather jacket are generally all made for women. I haven’t seen a male version anywhere. Is there a reason this is considered feminine? The shorter cut works well high rise trousers. The mock/funnel neck looks cool. Not sure if Zara sells anymore. The only places they market this type of jacket to men seems to not be in the US: like Arabic language or Turkey or something which is odd.

Cop or Pass? I don’t want to wear “women’s” clothing. Only exception is a thin width belt, cause they don’t make those for men

Discussion Suede care: what actually works, and the four habits that quietly kill the nap

Suede fails for one reason in almost every case: people treat it like smooth leather. It isn't. Smooth leather has a finished surface that resists water and takes a cream. Suede is the flesh side of the hide — an open, brushed fibre structure with no protective coating. Anything that mats, soaks, or abrades those fibres is permanent, because you can't sand suede back to life the way you can refinish a calfskin shoe.

Here's what actually holds up over time.

1. Brush when dry, and brush more than you think

The single highest-return habit is a dry brush with a soft brass or crepe brush after every wear. It lifts dust out of the pile before it works its way into the base of the fibre, and it re-stands the nap so the material keeps its depth of colour. Two minutes. Most people brush only when the shoe looks dirty, which is exactly the point where the dirt has already settled.

Brush in one direction, light pressure, no scrubbing in circles.

2. Deal with water fast, and never with heat

Suede can get wet. It's not ruined by rain. It's ruined by how it dries.

If it gets soaked, stuff it with plain paper (not newspaper with heavy ink), reshape it, and leave it at room temperature with air moving around it. Never on a radiator, never with a hairdryer, never in direct sun. Fast drying contracts the fibres unevenly, which is what produces the stiff, crusty patches people describe as "ruined". Slow drying mostly recovers to normal, and a brush once dry brings the nap back.

3. Skip the home remedies

Vinegar, baking soda pastes, laundry detergent, and the washing machine all show up in advice threads. Each one either strips the oils out of the hide or drives moisture deeper into the fibre base. Suede isn't washable — the leather is the material, not a coating on top of it.

For dry marks, a suede eraser or a fine-grit sanding block used gently on the spot is the correct tool. For greasy marks, blot immediately and accept that some marks are permanent.

4. Protect before you need it, not after

A fluoropolymer protector applied to clean, dry suede, in thin coats, is the only thing that buys you reaction time when something spills. It does not make suede waterproof and it does not replace brushing. Reapply every few months with wear, and never spray onto dirty suede — you'll lock the dirt in.

The storage point people miss

Suede left in a ball in a bag creases along the flex line, and those creases are where the fibre breaks first. Shoe trees (cedar, or plain unvarnished wood) keep the shape and pull moisture out. Rotate pairs rather than wearing the same suede two days running — 24 hours of resting time does more than any product.

What I'd genuinely like to hear from you

Two things I'm still not settled on, and I'd rather hear real experience than repeat the standard line:

  1. Protector sprays and the nap. Some people report that repeated spraying flattens the pile over a season. Others spray monthly for years with no change. If you've owned a suede pair for three-plus years, what did you actually observe?
  2. Brushing frequency vs. pile longevity. Conventional advice is "after every wear". There's an argument that over-brushing a softer suede (like a lambskin or a fine calf suede) wears the pile down faster than moderate brushing. Anyone with an old pair willing to weigh in?

Also curious whether people here treat nubuck and suede the same way — the fibre structure is different and I suspect the brushing advice shouldn't be identical.

Clothing Review This is my socks drawer, what should I do ?

Post image

I would like to know what kind of socks men usually wear. I’ve been wearing white socks all my life, even though I dress in black and wear black shoes. For me, white has always seemed like the only possible choice. I have no idea what people actually wear. Should I change my habits ?

And if you wonder, no I don’t have any other type of socks. I have no black socks either.

Question Pink and dark red, ok combo?

The pic is a bit dark, but I'm wearing cotton black slacks and black Oxford shoes. My main concern is the pink + dark red combo. I think it looks nice, like a different variation of navy blue sweater and baby blue shirt, but maybe it looks a bit weird. What do you think?
