Others Kerajaan benar pemegang Kad Dokumen Pendaftaran Pelarian bekerja, elak eksploitasi sindiket - Saifuddin Nasution

Environment Racer snails, one of our native freshwater species

Post image
55 Upvotes

Vittina waigiensis, the red racer snail or siput timba merah.

A small (3 cm) freshwater snail that lives in clean coastal streams with high flow and many rocks. It is not tolerant of turbid water and silt.

It feeds on microalgae, filamentous algae, diatoms, cyanobacteria, and organic biofilm scraped from hard surfaces using a specialized radula (“tongue”). They are the natural cleaners of their habitat.

They have separate sexes. When their white eggs hatch, the planktonic/veliger larvae wash downstream where they require brackish water to develop.

Their bright colours, peaceful nature and algae-feasting tendencies makes them popular aquarium inhabitants.

Others Food aids or soup kitchens for foreigners in Malaysia

As per title.

So story ahead.

I travel between Singapore and KL a lot due to the nature of my work. I don’t rent a room or apartment for myself but rather I co-rented a junior master bedroom with my friend.

We have this one foreigner flatmate from South Asia who seemed to have issues on their own. He came to Malaysia to work but his work lasted 4 months before getting laid off. He was laid off due to character problems, always going to work late, or just went MIA without a solid reason (sick or whatever). For obvious reasons he lost is main income but it seemed like he is earning some kind of income on the side to still be able to feed himself. But not feed himself on a regular basis since his income is irregular and not much.

Here’s the thing though… From the main master bedroom tenants they’ve mentioned to us (when I came back to KL or was told to me via WhatsApp when I’m not in kl) that this tenant has been touching their food and kitchenwares. He would cook their food using their kitchen wares usually during funny hours like 1am 2am. He would do the same to my roommate and my wares and food too.

He also has a drug problem in a sense that it seems like he has money for drugs but not food or meet proper rent on time. Yeah. The stereotypes sometimes are true some people only have money for anything else and everything else but the important things.

Him eating our food is bad enough. So now my question is: are there any soup kitchens for foreigners in Malaysia? We cannot forever let him eat our food it’s bought using our own money.

The other master bedroom tenants already placed padlocks on the cabinets that have their wares and spices in. My roommate has done the same too.

It isn’t the only thing he did. He has a tendency of shitting on the balcony when someone is using the shared bathroom and he’d do a bad job at cleaning up after himself. Same when he buang air besar in the bathroom he won’t even flush. He actually hid his shit by putting soap in the toilet bowl and splash it with water to create bubbles and foam to cover his shit. That is his type of person. When advised not to do this he started acting confrontative and play victim card saying we are targeting him. We aren’t. We just don’t want to live with a bloodsucker that has bowel problems thinking it’s ok to shit anywhere and did a bad job at cleaning after himself post toilet business. Same with him not earning anything to buy food for himself.

We have reported this crappy behaviour to the landlady and he started targeting the landlady as well. She has asked him to leave but he refused now all of us are stuck with a sore loser in the apartment.

Just wonder. I know Singapore is a more developed country than Malaysia, but didn't we have a good enough technology to compete too? Any online game you know that utilizes Malaysian server?

Culture Unmarried couple visiting Malaysia, could we run into problems with Sharia law?

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I have booked a 3 week trip to Malaysia at the end of this year. After booking our flights, I started researching local laws and customs so we could be respectful tourists and avoid accidentally getting into trouble.

That is when I came across information about Sharia law applying to Muslims in Malaysia, including Muslim tourists.

We are both German citizens, born and raised in Germany. My girlfriend is arabic and has an arabic name, although she doesn't wear a hijab. We are both Muslim, I converted two year ago (in case it matters)

The thing is, we are not married.

We visited Tunisia and Morocco together without any issues, but we stayed in large resorts there, so I assume that might have made a difference.

For our Malaysia trip, we planning to visit Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi (Kuah). Apart from NYE, we ar mostly staying in cheaper 2 or 3 star hotels. I've tried to book rooms with twin beds wherever possible.

However, I m worried that we could run into problems because we re unmarried, particularly if hotel staff assume we re Muslims based on my girlfriends name and appearance. Does having German passports make any difference in practice? Of course we not kissing, holdin hands and so on...

I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from people familiar with the situation in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Langkawi.

Thanks in advance!

Tourism & Travel Can anyone identify this hotel in KL with this Merdeka 118 view and share how the view from it looks like now?

Hi guys, I'm from Switzerland and I was fortunate enough to be stuck in KL during the very first days of COVID lockdown (I still remember was called MCO) and for several months my life was basically in this hotel room in KL with this cool view of the Merdeka 118 squished between two buildings.

I will be travelling to KL again soon and I wanted to book a room in the same hotel again for memories' sake but I've lost my receipts from 6 years ago and I'm having trouble finding it on maps.

So does anyone know which hotel this is? And if anyone has ever stayed in a room from this hotel facing towards the Merdeka 118 and have a photo of how it looks like now, could you also share it? Thanks.

Others tutors of Malaysia, how do you scale your tutoring business?

hello everyone!

i'm a 22F with 6 years of teaching experience in both online and physical tutoring (been teaching fresh out of high school), i have taught various subjects but my main focus is Science. i'm currently in uni and i'll start my final year soon which will be hectic, so i am thinking of scaling my side hustles during the holidays.

currently i'm planning to start a fully online-based tutoring company but the issues is:
1. I currently teach physically and my clients are from an agent - so I can't verbally market my tutoring company to my students.

  1. I am thinking of switching my focus to small groups tuitions (4-6 students) instead of 1-1. Last year I had a small group class and I realised I was much happier because the dynamics is better overall and students learn better under a bit of peer pressure. Also I get more money for the same amount of time and effort. So I am planning to switch to group classes and outsource my future 1-1 requests to freelance tutors.

If you're on the same boat, let's chat! Thanks in advance
