Discussion Staying at The Fifth Avenue Hotel for a convention at Setia SPICE Arena — is Grab the best option, or are there commuting tips I should know?
Hello! I am from the Philippines! My company booked me a room at The Fifth Avenue Hotel for my trip to Penang for a convention at Setia SPICE Convention Centre on November 20–21.
I know it’s a bit far from the venue, but most hotels nearby are either fully booked or too pricey. I also prefer a hotel with breakfast included since I’ll be busy in the mornings.
Would it be convenient to just take Grab to and from the convention venue each day, or are there better commuting options? Any tips for a first-time visitor would be appreciated!
Also, are there cafés, shops, or food spots around Setia SPICE that I can explore after the convention?
Thank you!

Discussion Places to go with family
Hello beautiful people of Penang,
I just travelled from KL to Penang yesterday with my parents after spending 3 nights there.
I was wondering which places to travel to Penang which they would love.
I already visited- Armenian Street, Chew Jetty’s, Penang Hill, Gurney Bay Point today and it was great. But I cannot think much on what to do the next 2 days till 28th. We have visited many temples so trying to avoid that.
I have Blue Mansion and Peranakan Mansion planned but those are small, like 1-2 hours. Escape Penang is out of question. Any other places anyone can suggest maybe beach type stuff would be great.
TIA for all the help

Is there a coffee machine repair shop in Penang that sells spare parts like rubber gasket?
I need a new rubber gasket and this is the 3rd time I'm using shoppee to find one and yet none fit. I really need help because when i ask the company who made the coffee machine, he gave a really useless and not helping answer so idk what else to do. If there is one, even if it's in Seberang, pls share. I don't even care anymore if it's far or not. The machine was made by a company called Giselle

Discussion Durian season in December?
Planning to visit Penang again towards the end of December, and I’m wondering if durian is still available during that time of the year. Are there any places that sell durian in December, or is it generally out of season by then?

Discussion Fumbled a perfectly good interaction at the airport today
Just got home and honestly need to vent a bit because I am kicking myself so hard right now.
Flew back into Penang today from a vacation in HCMC. Disembarking meant the usual routine—down the plane stairs and straight back up another set of stairs into the terminal. Classic PEN setup, nothing new there.
I happened to be the last one off the plane, and on the way up to the terminal, I noticed this girl completely struggling with her heavy cabin bag on the steps. Looked like she was traveling solo. Decided to do the decent thing, offered to help, and carried it up to the top for her. Handed it back, she thanked me, and we just kept walking.
My absolute regret is that I didn't just use that to strike up a conversation right there and keep walking with her. We ended up sharing a smile as she passed me later to head into the international immigration queue (so yeah, guessing she isn't Malaysian), but that was literally it.

Discussion Is Penang air quality okay (Indo fires), or not a good idea Nov -> New Year?
Hi semuanya, I'm thinking of visiting Penang for the first time, probably for 3 months. Obviously, there's a lot of issues with the haze. I met someone in Yogyakarta last week from Malaysia, he said it was okay, but they'd been traveling in Indo already for 2 weeks and I think situation got worse. Would you say it's okay to be in Penang for the end of the year, or the haze is not very pleasant?
The haze map on aqicn / malaysia says it's unhealthy for sensitive groups. I don't think I am, I generally do not get too affected by pollution in SEA cities, but anyway, just checking for your experiences. Terima kasih banyak!

Discussion Penang Travel Query
Hi guys! I'm a solo traveler who will be visiting Malaysia in early December. As much as I really want to explore Langkawi, I'm afraid I will run into insects / lizards there given it's a beach area and have heard such experiences from people who visited Bali etc.
I have an irrational fear of all insects (to the point I'm scared of big houseflies, moths and butterflies). Given this, would you suggest I take the risk or drop it entirely and go to Penang instead?
I'm already going to KL and Genting, just the third stop on my itinerary is kind of up in the air. Would appreciate any suggestions and advice in general as well for a first time solo visitor!

Discussion Need nightclub recommendations
So, I need your recommendations on the best nightclubs in Penang. I prefer clubs with english songs if possible but I'm open about the music. I want it to be a dancing club. A nice environment, good DJ, great crowd. Maybe mixed crowd would be good too. I'm new to nightclubs so I'll take any help I can get. Thank you

Discussion Travel to Penang (from Indonesia)
So, my family and I are planning a trip to Penang at the end of this month for a medical check-up and other things. I’ve already asked Gemini about various details, but I just want to double-check a few things.
- I plan to bring zero cash and just withdraw money using my Jago Visa card. Is that a good idea or not? Especially since I’ll need to buy a local SIM/data card at the airport upon arrival.
- For transport, we’ll mostly use Grab, so I can pay directly using the card linked to the app.
- Can I use QR payments? Specifically, paying via GoPay or Jago(Indonesian Bank) to a DuitNow QR code?
- Also can i just pay with my Jago visa card on Lam Wah Ee? Or maybe even QR
Thanks in advance

Picture Who manufactures Kek Lok Si's incense?
We visited Kek Lok Si during our Malaysian trip two weeks ago and love the smell at the various praying spots. Upon asking one of the employees there they have pointed us to this and we bought a box.
We love how this incense smells but we're rapidly going through it and the Kek Lok Si branding meant it was extremely difficult for us to find the manufacturer to try to order directly from.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Worse case scenario I'll pay someone to ship me 10 boxes of these to the United States.
