Hello! Been reading random series from recommendations to other people on this sub for a while, but since there's a big recency bias with that method, was wondering if anyone had a good rec for a series I've missed out on. Big preference for longer or completed series (completed for obvious reasons, longer so it'll be more time before I run out of books again lol) and for stuff I can get through Kindle. Series I've read so far and a brief review follow:
Dungeon Crawler Carl - 10. Sci-fi series that snuck litrpg into the mainstream. It's probably the best, both in terms of personal enjoyment and technical execution.
Book of the Dead - 10. Incredible work, Rinoz the goat. Liked Chrysalis so much I jumped into this one to see if the author could hit twice, and got a series which is as good as Chrysalis but for completely different reasons. Awe-inspiring range
Chrysalis - 10. Incredibler work, Rinoz the goat. Love it.
Hell Difficulty Tutorial - 10. Hype moments and aura: the series (complementary)
1% Lifesteal - 10. Actually just a good book. Love the unique fantasy-cyberpunk setting, and love the direction the series is progressing.
Azarinth Healer - 10. Not the best by characters or world building or technical writing, but hits exactly what I like about litrpgs, in sequence, then repeats the sequence. Almost the whole thing feels specifically written for my tastes
The Bee Dungeon - 9. Really good stuff, love it to death. Wanna give it a 10, but I do like all the other 10s more than this one. Probably my favorite 9 though.
Defiance of the Fall - 9. great stuff, got bogged down a couple times but last couple books were great
The Path of Ascension - 9. Love the worldbuilding, but it's held back a little by a lack of stakes. Everything is just preparing for this big thing that's been on its way for 13 books now, and won't arrive for 10 more
The Primal Hunter - 9. Great stuff, love it to death, but I wish we had more numbers go up. Progress feels like it slows down with each book, and at book 16 that's VERY slow. I do like long elaborate fight scenes though
Reborn as a Demonic Tree - 9. Good stuff, fun empire-builder shenanigans
Mage Tank - 9. Mostly good stuff, a few parts put me off but I really love it on the whole
Judicator Jane - 8. First book is definitely the worst I've ever read, but then there's an unbelievably high quality turnaround. Everything after book 2 is fantastic, it's like a reverse power fantasy-- the unbeatable MC whose actions will inevitably blow up into a catastrophe
Nightmare Realm Summoner - 7. this is the white bread of litrpg
Savage Awakening - 7. Good stuff. A little repetitive, but stays fun. Series set up to keep going, then just kinda ended
Rise of the Living Forge - 7 - more litrpg white bread. Fun while reading, exits my brain as soon as I stop
Heretical Fishing - 6 - Good book that just didn't click with me. Got frustrated with the sheer quantity of faffing about, nobody can even breathe without getting into a "who is more clever and annoying" competition with whatever is nearby. Reading them all back-to-back may have been my mistake
Rise of the Undead Empress - 6. I like it, but the writing quality feels like it's trying to convince me not to
System Universe - 6 - Genuinely unsure why this is as popular as it is. It's good, but only barely. Milquetoast power fantasy
Ultimate Level 1 - 6 - not great, but checks all the boxes. Moving in an interesting direction now
Amelia the Level Zero Hero - 6 - Fine. Just a One Punch Man litrpg series. I just happen to really like one punch man
Skill Eater - 5. The writing is fine, I just don't love what's written. When there's an emergency that they're fighting off, it's good fun, but before & after that can be torturous. Book 4 repeatedly states how hopeless the situation is and they have a week to prepare or the whole city dies, then they keep inventing excuses to slack off or party to relieve stress so they don't go crazy. This would be fine over a longer period of time, but they couldn't lock in for one week?
Welcome to the Multiverse - 4. barely passable, frustratingly inconsistent. Author has good ideas but little ability to execute on them, keeps coming up with stuff and then forgetting about it in 1-2 chapters. I should not know your material better than you
EDIT: I missed one
He Who Fights With Monsters - 9. First three are legendary, everything after that is basically a different series (that I like, but not as much).
