Promo: E-book Typhonic - A LGBTQ+ Gender Transformation Superhero LitRPG Adventure - Available now in eBook/Physical!

HI ZEV! Er, I mean, hi all!

Typhonic is my newest novel featuring a nobledark setting, LitRPG-lite themes, superheroes, genderbenders, 🏳️‍⚧️themes, and intrigue similar to the World of Darkness.

The novel's a little different from your usual LitRPG in that I converted the original web-run of the story from the Quest format. In that format I would write chunks at a time, then allow readers to vote on what the MC would do next. Some vote choices required actual dice rolling to judge whether the MC achieved their goal. Think of it like playing Dungeons & Dragons with your friends, only you're all controlling the same character at once!

But enough about the process, here's the blurb!

Dust Jacket:

Sometimes the strongest heroes come from the most villainous backgrounds.

Life for Morgan Axios seems idyllic to anyone else looking in. His family is one of the most affluent, superpowered crime families in Gravesea City. Whatever Morgan wants, he can get his hands on. Well, everything except love from his family and meaningful superpowers of his own. All he has to do in return is stay hidden away from the world and try not to be an even further embarrassment to the family name.

That all changes on the night of Morgan's 19th birthday. A chance encounter with one of the leading heroes of the city leads Morgan to receive a special serum designed for those individuals without true superpowers. In the process, he gains a brand new form: A draconic woman with abilities far in excess of his wildest dreams. Now he must navigate what it means to be a hero while keeping his female alter-ego a secret from the rest of the Axios family. The only problem is that his alter-ego forces him to confront the hardest foe imaginable: His own trauma and psyche!

Discussion ProWritingAid and AI

One of the YouTube channels I watched a lot of stuff from in order to try to become a better writer (very low bar 😅) had suggested using ProWritingAid at one point. I started using it and found it to be very useful, but I'm curious how people feel about it, specifically in regards to the AI usage.

I haven't been using it to do the writing for me, unless you count pointing out grammar and spelling mistakes, but I have been using it for feedback, like when it said my protag was too passive during a scene or when it criticized my use of "meta commentary." I'm just not sure if it counts as "using AI to write my story" for people even though all the words are written by me.

I have some friends that I've asked to read it, but they aren't writers and can only be so much help. I definitely don't have the cash to hire someone to do it, though I'm not even at a stage where that would be a realistic thing to consider.

Recommendation: asking Is LitRPG Not For Me?

First time reddit poster so hopefully I'm doing this right.

Posting here because I've started reading around the community and trying out new series but I'm already feeling lost and I'm starting to question if I'm interested in the litrpg genre or something else is a better fit.

I've recently read a couple series in the litrpg genre and been browsing this subreddit for suggestions. I'm trying to find a new series to start but every book I try now but I end up dropping. I can't decide if I just found a couple series in a genre I otherwise dislike or I'm looking in the wrong places. I'll list what I've tried below (in no particular order) including some Korean webnovels I read translated years ago that first kind of introduced me to the genre and thought fit here:

Overgeared - 7/10, Liked the series enough to read over 1800 chapters despite scaling issues and a harem. Didn't read the last arc(s) because it seemed like a weird genre shift after 1800/1900 chapters to introduce cultivation.

Pick Me Up! - Read 70-80% of the series but stopped reading when I got lost in the plot, beginning of series was really great though. 8/10

DCC - Speed read entire series (before the latest book) in 2 weeks. 9.5/10

The Wandering Inn - Been reading for months and I'm now caught up. Absolutely love the characters, progression, and world. 11/10

The Land - DNF 1st book. Couldn't look pastscaling issues and the way characters other than the MC are treated as not real people? I don't remember much but I remember there being some fight with some thieves and the MC in the couple months since he came to the world was already like half the level of the highest level thief

Cradle - Finished 1st book but not interested enough to continue the series. I'm just not a big fan of cultivation I think.

The Gods are Bastards - DNF 1st book. Stopped reading after the paladin girl was bullied by here roommates. Not really what I expected out of this story and didn't seem to be going anywhere I was interested in either.

Newt & Demon - DNF 1st book. Didn't like the system. Why are classes just assigned? What's with the crafting mechanics? The world just didn't make sense to me.

HWFWM - DNF 1st book. Not for me. I didn't get any of the humor and too much system. Half of the text in the first couple chapters is just system messages. I try to look past it, which is why I haven't mentioned it for any other book, but I don't like stat blocks, and I think this is the worst offender.

Elydes - DNF 1st book. I had very different expectations for this book based on people's recommendations than what I actually read, and that's maybe my fault for not getting further. I stopped reading after a 3-5 year old child was constantly left to run, bathe, swim, and cook by themselves. It might be kind of petty, but as someone with family members around that age, I could not look past this after the isekai and just directionless story up to that point.

Chrysalis - Finished 1st book but not interested enough to continue the series. I didn't hate it but I was kind of just bored while reading. Story seemed more focused on "number going up" than an actual plot and that's just not for me.

Tiny Dungeon Core - Finished 1st book but not interested enough to continue the series. Cute book and I love the premise but I found I didn't find myself compelled or invested in the book at all so I didn't continue.

Azarinth Healer - DNF 1st book. Honestly, I think I only read a chapter or two but I don't remember anything about this book. I just know I dropped it.

Mage Tank - DNF 1st book. I enjoyed the humor at the beginning but it got old pretty quick. The world building seemed all over the place and the characters felt more like people playing a game like Ready Player One.

Bog Standard Isekai - DNF 2nd book (most recent) Inconcistent characters. Side characters are nerfed constantly for poor reasons. MC randomly read a lot about glass in his previous life? I've never read anything about glass and that memory skill would give me absolutely no value as I'm sure it would for 99.9% of people. There seemed to be just a bunch on nonsense made up as excuses for the MC to know these things. Also the only thing I hate more that an old man reincarnated as a newborn trope in the old man reincarnated as a child trope. Both tropes are creepy. I'm no writer, but if you want a child MC why not just start there instead of writing an isekai. The only thing gained from this being an isekai is for the MC to explain his knowledge around glass, which is BS and hasn't actually contributed much to the story. Even the characters who know he's an adult treat him like a child.

The Inn Side Shop - DNF 1st book. I got like 50% of the way through the book. It really to built up this dungeon near the inn a whole lot only. It set this high expectation for adventure, but not for the main character since the MC is a child running a shop for the real adventurers, and the book straight up says this, so what's the point? And if the MC did go into this dungeon, what's he going to do? The whole story revolves around the shop.

These are just my opinions that I am sharing because I am looking for honest feedback or suggestions on what to read. I tried to share why I stopped reading these books honestly, and I recognize there are issues with the books I do like as well, some issues I can look past but others it much harder. Its difficult to articulate exactly why I liked some of these and not others.

Are there other books I should try before giving up?

Promo: E-book Max Level Retiree 1, my OPMC SoL series, released on KU/Paperback!

Hey all! The first book of my second series is available as of today! For those of you that ask: yes, it has harem elements.

"Ew harem!" you say. I say that my posts here, despite 0 upvotes, get more views than my fantasy penname posts with hundred upvotes. Some of yall are liars.

Anyway! I hope you all enjoy this book! It's been a blast to write! I tried to make the story fun and keep the whimsy of BoC, which made me rekindle my love for reading -- I say inspired, but it differs by a lot. I wanted to capture that warm feeling combined with sick action, and so here we are!

Blurb:

I served that damn fatso king for twelve years. No more.

Whisked into a new world, I went through the whole isekai ordeal. Levels, equipment, dungeons, guilds. All that crap, for 12 years.

I was done. So when given the chance to run away to a whole new continent, I took it immediately. Which was easier said than done with the 100 floor dungeon right in my backyard, and bandits on the hunt. I would not give up on my lazy, laidback life though!

Sadly, my calm life couldn't last forever, as soon I'm housing Leanor--a pretty, mature elf with a tragic past, alongside Luna - a wolf-girl who wants to get stronger in my dungeon. The nearby village is going through trouble as it's unclear who the next Mayor will be, and the dungeon keeps getting weirder and weirder. Also, I found a strange egg at its entrance.

Perhaps my calm life would have to wait for a few moments longer.

Discussion Matt Dinniman & Dungeon Crawler Carl

Seriously, who would have thought back when we were reading Dungeon Crawler Carl in 2019–2020 that it would eventually become the phenomenon it is today?I’ll admit, I was a little sceptical before I started listening to the first book. Now, it’s become one of my favourite book series, if not my absolute favourite.
The thing I love most about DCC is how Matt Dinniman manages to combine genuinely serious, emotional moments with some of the most ridiculous and hilarious situations imaginable. One minute, you’re laughing at something completely unhinged, and the next, you’re genuinely invested in the characters and the story. That balance is something special, and it’s a huge part of what makes this series stand out to me.

But what really made me appreciate just how far this series has come was walking into EB Games today and seeing Dungeon Crawler Carl merchandise on the shelves. Actual merchandise! For a series that started out as a relatively niche LitRPG, seeing it reach that level of popularity is pretty surreal.

And then there’s Audible. Seeing DCC books occupying multiple spots among the platform’s bestselling titles is another reminder of just how much the series has grown.

We’ve gone from a story about a guy in his underwear and an extremely opinionated cat trying to survive an intergalactic death game to a series with a massive fanbase, physical merchandise, and a reach that extends well beyond the LitRPG community.

Thats a hell of a journey.

So, hats off to Matt Dinniman. You’ve created something genuinely special, and it’s been awesome watching the series grow into what it is today.I don’t know if you ever imagined DCC would reach this level of success when you first started writing it, but seeing how far it’s come has to be a pretty incredible experience. Here’s to more books, more chaos, more emotional damage, and more Princess Donut.

YOU WILL NOT BREAK ME!

(Although my wallet might not survive the merchandise.)

Discussion Am I crazy?

So I listen to a lot of Litrpg series on audible and I’ve had a pet peeve of the way voice actors pronounce “Ugh”. Do people casually pronounce this as “Ugg” in real life. Maybe I’ve just been reading this wrong my whole life, but I’ve definitely never heard anyone say this before besides voice actors. I’m currently listening to Battle Mage Farmer narrated by Michael Kramer. I know it’s an odd peeve, but is this just a me thing? Have I been completely mistaken my whole life?

Discussion Pick a Class and talents for my story

I have been thinking about this, and I don't know if its a good idea or bad. (you never know how reddit respond to things 😄) But I have a story where my main character has more than one class. I haven't defined all of them yet. so I was thinking I should let Reddit decide one for me.

if you get a chance to pick a class for my character, and decide his talent tree, would you do it? I will pick one which gets most upvoted. Nothing too troll.

Here how it works. Pick a class. that is simple enough.

then comes the talent tree.

it works like this. No. 1 is the Primary talent. it is very important and could be anything. from mundane to OP.

Then at No. 2, you get three option of pure stats. +10 in any one of the (Str, Agi, End, Vit. Int.) stats. At No. 3 you pick a talent based on the stat you picked before.

If you picked strength before, you can get option related to strength based passive talents. Like, 20% more damage when fighting melee. Critical strike chance etc.

AT No. 4, you get your first major talent unlocked. which would give you two options to pick from. There are more nuisance there but you just pick the talent, I would work on other things.

Few things to remember about talents :-

They are passive skills and can't be an active skill.

you can't pick a overpowered talent at the start. that's not how it works in my story.

there need to have some connection to the previous talent you picked. they all can't be random without any connection.

Some Rules - -

  • Don't pick a clairvoyant class. ( I already have one.)
  • No sword related class either.
  • No story breaking overpowered talents and class. No void related powers.

well, that's what I can think for now. let the Chaos begin. Hopefully I don't get downvoted to hell level difficulty

Some context about story as someone asked. It a regressor, system invasion story. there are all kind of classes but human get only some basics ones as its the beginning of system world for them. some people do get rare and unique class though.

Discussion Why do so many teeth crack in 1% Lifesteal?

Is this series an AI-written series? How many teeth have to crack in frustration before we find out the tooth (truth)?

In just two books I’ve counted five characters that have cracked their teeth from gritting them. Just bad writing if it’s human, understandable if AI.

Recommendation: asking Should I read Apocalypse Parenting?

Ok so as a mom I’m interested in this take and want to read it however I have anxiety issues and I’m worried I won’t be able to relax enough to enjoy the story if I’m worried about the kids the whole time. I wouldn’t even worry if they were teenagers but the youngest is three! If it’s more funny then stressful I’ll be fine but if it’s more high stakes drama I won’t make it lol

Market Research/Feedback [Feedback] Dark Fantasy / LitRPG – Prose, POV, and Readability

Please check out this chapter from my novel. Honest feedback on the prose, readability, and POV would be greatly appreciated. Also, do you think the following passage would flow better in first-person POV?

Scene: Dawn and other dark mages who awakened their power in the coming of age ceremony are now guided to the last part of the ceremony, to the council chambers where elders will judge based on their powers.

Thirty of them marched past the dark stone wall, guided only by the flickering flames of rusty iron chandeliers. Without warning, the group came to an abrupt halt. Lost in thought, Dawn bumped right into the back of the young mage ahead of him.

“Sorry...“ Dawn muttered, staggering back to catch his balance on the cold stone floor.

The young mage didn’t even turn around, barely registering the collision. Up at the front of the procession, an attendant’s hands came together with a sharp, echoing clap.

“Nobles first, then commoners! Split into two lines,“ the attendant shouted. “Quick now!“

Swiftly the students started to form a line. Dawn scanned the divide, silk dark cloak and polished boots lined right, dark faded tunic and tattered sandals lined left. Commoners or high folks? The system had ripped him from his world and dumped him directly into this sequence, leaving only his appearance unchanged. He knew nothing about his origins or lineage. How could he know where he belonged if he had not been told?

As Dawn was about to step into a queue, a massive hairy hand slammed him against his chest, shoving him back. “Where are you pulling into mutt” a guttural voice barked. “Hide your ugly mug alongside the commoners.”

Before Dawn could regain his footing, a second hand reached out, catching the brute’s wrist and wrenching it away.

“Now, now, Darwin,“ a smoother voice intervened, cool and condescending. “Even if he is a half breed, noble blood still lingers in him.“ The brute muttered something under his breath but fell in line like a well trained hound. It only took one word for him to keep the mutt under control. He eyed Dawn for a beat, then stepped back. “Malrick, give him some space.“ With a low grunt, the purple haired young mage backed up, clearing a gap in the queue. With a practised smile the savior gestured to the open spot, his voice smooth as silk. “Get in line, Dawn.“ Defeated, Dawn took refuge beside him among the noble ranks.

From the line he peeked another look at his saviour, Slicked back hair, calculative dead pan eyes, pale skin with a noble house crest knitted into his clock. Everything about the man screamed authoritative nobility. He flashed another smile, rotten and hollow, the fakest among fake.

“Now, the first five from the noble line, follow me“ the attendee called out.

Pulled into the line, Dawn was standing fifth. First was the brute, his massive frame hovering over everyone in the line. Second was the dark savior of Dawn, other two slots were filled with a purple dyed student with piercing, and a normal looking one. No code were followed in this school except the attire needed to be black.

The group followed the attendant toward a pair of massive oak doors. Pulling them open, he gestured for the young students to step inside.

A towering, crowded arena greeted them. Dozens of senior students looked down from the lower stands, while armored guards lined the dirt floor below. High above, in the upper wooden balconies, a few hooded elders stood watching. Their sharp eyes judged the new arrivals from beneath deep cowls, quiet fingers stroking long white beards.

Right in the center of the dirt floor, a single wide circle was drawn. A few feet back from the circle, a line of examiners sat behind wooden desks. Quill pens scratched fiercely across parchment as they scribbled notes.

“Welcome! The first batch is right on time!“

The speaker stepped forward to greet them, a teacher wearing round spectacles, a pointed witch’s hat, and a bushy white beard that billowed out like a pine tree.

“My name is Tharos,“ he continued, gesturing around the corner “And the one over there is Crowfeet.“

A few feet away, a second instructor hunched against the walls under the balcony shadows, his tall frame half-swallowed.

“As time is of the essence, we will begin the welcoming ceremony! No time for pep talks.“ Tharos turned toward the rear doors and ordered the guards, “Bring in the prisoners!“

Two hooded guards dragged forward five prisoners chained in a line. Heavy iron cuffs bound their wrists and ankles, clanking loudly as the captives struggled to walk. Sacks covered their heads completely.

Dawn’s chest tightened, a spike of cold panic piercing his gut. What were their crimes? What was about to happen? Around him, the other recruits stood impassive, as though expecting this all along. Everyone knew the rules of this ritual, except him.

As Dawn stood frozen in contemplation, a heavy hand patted against his shoulder.

It was his savior. The noble had effortlessly slipped out of his spot in line and stepped up beside him. According to whatever twisted logic of the system, they were supposed to know each other, yet Dawn’s mind remained a total blank, unable to retrieve a single memory of the man.

“Are you ready, Dawn?“ the noble asked.

Dawn wanted to mouth no, to scream it, but his instincts took over. “Yes,“ he muttered anyway, the word escaping his throat before he could stop it.

“No time to waste! First up, Corin from the House of Iron march!“ Tharos called out.

The brute stepped forward out of the line, his massive frame looming over the dirt circle. A guard stepped up, unlocked the lead chain from the line of captives, and guided a single prisoner with wrists and ankles still bound and forced him onto his knees directly before Corin.

“Start the timer on my mark! Corin, show us your power. The elders will judge!“

Tharos gave him a brief moment to prepare, but the brute looked more than ready, standing unnaturally tall and broad for a mage. As the signal was given, a guard flipped a heavy hourglass upside down, and grains of dark sand began to trickle down through the glass.

Corin activated his skill. From his broad shoulders, two massive arms made of solid shadow erupted into the air. With a brutal burst of violence, the giant hands of shadow slammed down, pummeling the helpless prisoner into the dirt.

After the fist’s first heavy impact, Dawn instinctively dropped his gaze toward the floor. Before he could look away, a firm hand clamped around his jaw and yanked his face back up.

“Don’t look down,“ a smooth voice whispered near his ear. “Look around us, Dawn. None of them are staring at the dirt. They are all looking death straight in the eye.“

The slick haired noble tilted Dawn’s head upward toward the balcony. “The elders are watching.“ He turned Dawn’s face back down toward the desk of instructors. “We are being judged. Act according to our noble name.“

He released his grip, leaving Dawn forced to witness the brutal onslaught as shadow hands mangled the lifeless body. Dawn was no stranger to butchering livestock or the stench of rotting animal carcasses but now he would have to get used to the sight and smell of human blood too.

“And time!“ The guard flipped the hourglass flat and checked the remaining sand. “Ten seconds!“ he announced to the arena.

Tharos shook his head slightly. “If you had stopped your meaningless rampage early, that could have been a record.“

Across the arena wall, the grand slate board shuddered. The name holding tenth place dropped lower, triggering a domino effect down the line. The fiftieth name vanished from the bottom entirely as the forty ninth slipped into its place.

“You are currently tenth on the leaderboard,“ Tharos announced.

Corin threw his arms wide, flexing his massive muscles in triumph as a handful of senior students scattered throughout the crowd offered lazy applause. High above in the balcony, the elders remained silence, unimpressed. At the long wooden bench, the examiners jotted down their notes.

After allowing Corin a brief moment to bathe in his glory, the guards escorted him out of the ring. A cleanup crew rushed in immediately, dragging the mangled remains away and leaving behind only a slick, pool of blood staine in the center of the dirt.

“Now for our second recruit, Matthew of the Vlodrath family! Come forward,“ Tharos called out.

The savior with the polished black hair stepped smoothly into the spotlight. A wave of murmurs rippled through the arena. A few senior students cheered, while others looked on with sharp, astonished eyes.

Dawn watched him walk forward, his lingering suspicions confirmed. Matthew was clearly from a high ranking house and dawn belong to the same house as him.

“Now once I give the signal, you can show your powers to the elders“. Dawn frowned, by showing powers now has a darker meaning then anything else.

As Tharos signaled, Matthew took out the dagger from his belt and lunged at the prisoner, slitting his throat without a shred of remorse. Not a single second was wasted.

He glanced over at the guard operating the hourglass and shrugged. “Turn the hourglass upside down again!“

“The trial only ends when you show us your powers. It’s not about how fast you can kill,“ Tharos snapped, giving him a scornful look.

High above, a few elders gasped in disappointment, while the examiners at the desk didn’t even look fazed, they had seen this arrogant rookie mistake a thousand times before.

“Fine,“ Matthew declared.

He opened his palm and twitched his fingers, weaving invisible dark threads from his finger tips that slid directly into the fresh wound on the prisoner’s neck. He held the stance for a moment before commanding in an cold voice, “Arise!“

The dead body mechanically jerked upward to its feet.

“A Puppeteer,“ one elder murmured from the balcony, sounding quiet impressed. Beside him, another wore a proud smile, as if to say, That’s my boy.

“And that’s time!“ Tharos shouted, glaring toward the guard.

“Twenty seconds!“ the guard called out.

The reanimated corpse stumbled forward a few feet before collapsing back into the dirt like a broken rag doll. As the cleanup crew dragged the body away, Matthew walked past Dawn, silently lipping the words good luck before stepping out of the arena.

As the lineup moved faster and faster, Dawn fidgeted nervously with his hands. He checked his status screen several times, but the truth remained unyielding. Neither the class bestowed upon him nor his skills had changed.

Up ahead, the queue dissolved quickly. The purple-haired boy summoned a small brigade of skeletons to tear into his target, while the quiet silence student calmly coated his blade in poison before finishing off his prisoner. They logged times of thirty and thirty five seconds, respectively.

Finally, the floor was cleared and his Dawn’s turn.

“Velkar from-” his voice suddenly cutting out with a strange, unnatural static. Tharos entire frame glitched for a fraction of a second. As if the system is fixing a mistake, “...Dawn from the Vlodrath family!“

Dawn didn’t bother worrying about the system glitch. He had far bigger problems to survive right now. He swallowed hard and stepped into the center of the circle.

“Wait for my signal. Then, you may use your power,“ Tharos said.

Dawn could feel the weight of every eye in the arena preying upon him. Tharos gave the signal, and the guard flipped the hourglass.

Dawn activated his skill: Summon Orb.

A tiny black sphere materialized in the air in front of him, hovered for a split second, and then dropped straight into the dirt with a pathetic plop.

A wave of muffled chuckles rippled through the stands. Tharos quickly silenced the crowd with a sharp glare before gesturing for Dawn to proceed. Over at the instructors’ bench, however, the examiners leaned into one another, exchanging urgent whispers.

“What is your class?“ one of the examiners called out, breaking protocol.

“It’s called Void Caller... ah, sir,“ Dawn replied, his voice barely holding steady.

The examiner slid his spectacles down the bridge of his nose, squinting at his parchment. “And what is the rank of your class and skill?“

“SSS-rank, sir. Both of them.“

“Continue,“ the examiner ordered flatly, turning back to his colleagues as they frantically began scribbling notes and debating among themselves.

Dawn took the sphere into his hands, looking out at the crowd. Up close, it resembled a heavy iron cannonball, polished slick like a black bowling ball without finger holes. When he lifted it with both hands, the weight sank heavily into his arms, around twenty pounds of solid black metal.

“What is your power again?“ the examiner pressed, leaning over his notes as the sand inside the hourglass slowly dripped away.

“Ah... it’s this,“ Dawn stammered. He lifted the iron sphere, balancing it in both hands to show the entire gallery. “I can summon this ball.“

A sudden wave of roaring laughter erupted from the senior students.

“Silence! Silence!“ Tharos barked, glaring sharply at the laughing crowd. “Let Dawn from House Vlodrath finish his-”

“That insolent brat is not from the Vlodrath family!“

A roar interrupted and shattered the mood as an old bastard in the balcony jumped from his seat, leaning over the wooden railing with a face twisted in rage. “I have controlled enough tolerance, One member’s failure to control his sexual urge will not leave a black mark to the entire clan! Never utter our house name again alongside that brat’s name.“

With that single outburst, the entire chamber went dead silent.

What did I do to piss that old fellow off again?

Dawn stared down at the heavy black sphere resting in his hands. Holding it tight, he took a hesitant step toward the kneeling prisoner. Beneath the rough sack, the captive let out muffled, frantic whimpers, his mouth bound tight beneath the cloth.

Dawn glanced back over his shoulder at Tharos and the examiners, his wide, desperate eyes silently pleading for someone to intervene.

The pressure unlocked a core memory, where he had stood frozen on a stage during a speech competition, paralyzed under the glare of a hundred staring faces. But this wasn’t a speech. He didn’t want his first act in this world to be murdering a helpless man with a twenty pound bowling ball.

A tongue clicked sharply from the darkness.

It was Crowfeet. The instructor hidden beneath the shadow glided forward, his tall frame cutting through the dim light as he clenched his fists. Without a word of warning, Crowfeet grabbed the prisoner by the head, slammed him face first into the dirt, and pushed his knee into the man’s chest, pinning him to the ground.

“The timer won’t stop until you kill him,“ He pointed a long, bony finger at the sphere in Dawn’s hands. “You hold a weapon. Use it.“

Dawn’s hands trembled as he adjusted his grip on the heavy sphere. He closed the distance, raising the ball up near his chin to gain momentum.

“H-huh...“ Dawn gasped, losing his balance for a fraction of a second.

“If you drop that on my leg, I will kill you myself,“ Crowfeet growled without looking up.

A few muffled snickers snuck out from the senior students in the stands, though Dawn took a small, twisted comfort in knowing the other particpants had already been escorted out and couldn’t witness this embarrassment. Still, Crowfeet’s threat worked. Panic surged through Dawn’s veins. He quickly lowered the heavy ball back down to his waist, bent his knees, and released his grip, the sphere went down toward the captive’s head.

Crack.

The heavy iron smashed into the prisoner’s nose with a sickening crunch. The ball rebounded off the face and rolled away into the dirt. blood instantly soaked through the sack.

Dawn spun around, gulping his bile back to his stomach.

Crowfeet let out a long, disappointed sigh. Raising his hand, he activated a telekinesis skill, the iron orb lifted off the ground and floated directly into his palm. Wrapping his fingers around the ball, the instructor brought the sphere down onto the prisoner’s head again and again, raining relentless blows until the captive stopped breathing and the skull caved in completely.

Crowfeet tossed the bloody sphere carelessly into the dirt.

“Stop the timer!“ Tharos shook his head. “It doesn’t even count!“

Before Dawn could even catch his breath or wipe the cold sweat from his forehead, two guards stepped up, grabbed him by the arms, and forcefully escorted him out of the arena.

If you've been around a while you might remeber Enora Online. It was pretty big deal just before covid. It's been a few years since Arlo and I wrote our spinoff series together and I've moved on to fantasy books for the moment, but he's still at it, still adding to the main series and growing the world. And I'm still happy to talk about the books on his behalf, because he's not on reddit much.

The series is reaching a sort of critical mass now. It is officially what I'd call a loooong series. Especially when you factor in our Unleashed books. Last few years have been a real grind for us all, but Arlo's been patiently adding to the pile and having the audio made with the help some talented narrators. Now Arlo's selling the ebooks directly on kickstarter. The stretch goals fund production of the last two books in the series. They'll be coming anyways, of course, but a good showing here would certainly hurry things along.

I'm also linking to the amazon page so you can check out the full series.

Anyway, if you're a fan of the series or thinking about picking it up, feel free to chat with me about it. I was one of the first book 1 beta readers, so I remember how it started.

Tier List I need some recommendations!

It's been awhile since my last tier list. I am two years into this genre now and I feel like it's running dry. Obviously it's not, tons more out there to enjoy, it's just difficult separating the chaff from the wheat. So help me out! What are some recommendations that you all have?

(Disclaimer: yes I know all of these aren't Litrpgs. I tend to lump in progression fantasy as well.)

Recommendation: asking New to the genre

Recently relented to a POCKET FM ad on YT, and fell down a rabbit hole of delight!

The platform is super annoying — no book marking. No respect for the sleep timer. Random starts when a day’s allocation on a book is through, etc.

Looking for a platform and maybe two starter series. Prefer something with a story and not just endless fights and stats logs.

I see recommendations here in my brief peruse of this sub but they don’t have a source. Wanting to know what people recommend other than audible or kindle to access.

Thanks. I’ll go back to reading past posts now.

EDIT: willing to I did one $1 payment to PocketFM and have been loving the series I listening to. I had no idea this was a whole assed genre; never read / heard of this until about 10 days ago. It’s starting to replace radio for me.

Discussion Callouts from other series

For readers, how often do you like writers putting bits of other series into their works? Like, for example, if a writer went out of their way to put a mango in front of a character, describe the mango in tantalizing detail down to the way it smelled, then had their character reach pass the mango for an apple, would that be entertaining, or just annoying?

Isn't it funny how small things can surprise you and bring a genuine smile to your face unexpectedly?

Just started book 7, and Ilea goes to visit Meadow and Goliath. Goliath uses Meadow's real name and I was treated to this literal visual text melting. It was so unexpected that I had to stop reading and post this to share the moment of genuine happiness it evoked.

Anyone else fine this or other unexpected moments a great joy?

Promo: E-book The Jester of Bergheim: The Brood (Book 1) — OUT TODAY!

My son and I have spent months bringing this dark LitRPG adventure from Russian into English, doing our best to preserve the jokes, wordplay, and those darn cultural references.

And believe me, there were plenty of those.

COVER ARTIST: 100Covers

AI USAGE: No AI in writing and translation. 100Covers had our permission to use AI for the cover image.

Blurb:

He logged in to escape reality. Someone made sure he couldn’t log out.

Abducted and trapped inside a mysterious Viking-inspired game, Yegor finds himself among several players who share his predicament.

His assigned class? Jester.

The rules are unclear, death feels terrifyingly real, and a sadistic mastermind is watching their every move.

The only way home is to beat the game.

Fortunately, Yegor has a sense of humor. Whether that will help is another question.

What to Expect:

  • An Unusual Class: The MC is assigned the Jester class. No class selection, no attribute point allocation, and no convenient character build.
  • Unconventional Progression: Leveling up isn't as straightforward as it should be. And finding ways around the rules can create more problems than it solves.
  • Brutal Survival: Death isn't necessarily permanent, but it hurts. A lot. And the psychological consequences don't simply disappear after respawning.
  • A Viking-Inspired Fantasy World: Magic, monsters, dangerous quests, and NPCs who behave disturbingly like real people.
  • Dark Humor: The MC jokes his way through situations that really aren't funny. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it makes everything worse.
  • Two Perspectives: Mostly first-person narration from the MC, with occasional interludes revealing what his captor is doing in the real world.

Fun Fact:

I'm a reader, not a writer.

Sometimes I read a book in Russian and think, "Damn, I wish English-speaking readers could enjoy this too!"

Well, I finally decided to do something about it.

Let's see how it goes! %)

Recommendation: asking Looking for a new series.

Hey all!

I'm fairly new to the litRPG universe. Like many, I started with DCC and read all 8 books in a couple weeks. Loved them.

Then I jumped to HWFWM and burned through all 13 books and backed the Patreon. I really loved books 1-3, didn't care for 4-6, enjoyed the next few, but then they fell off hard and felt really rushed. I feel like this could have been stretched out over 20+ books but instead the author is rushing to finish the story with this book and you can tell.

So, I've since jumped to Primal Hunter. I've read every book that's out, backed the Patreon, and am fully caught up to today's release. I'm loving this series and can't wait for more.

So, with that being said, what should I read next?

The peace was always a lie. Now the mask has finally cracked.

In the wake of the events of Book 04: Blooming Flower, the fragile balance held together by the great powers of the land of men did not shatter without warning. It broke the moment the Citadel of Magecraft, founded by the beloved and benevolent Queen Arianna for her equally beloved and benevolent daughter, fell under a sudden and brutal assault. The followers of the Messiah, an insidious order that had spent a century and a half plotting in the shadows, finally chose to reveal their hand and strike.

The attack is the spark the Triumvirate has waited for. Long spoken of only in fearful whispers by the Faith, they seize the moment to step onto the stage, not quietly, but with a detonation that shakes the continent. Their entrance ignites the War of the Twenty Monarchs: a conflict drawing in rulers of four different races, and one of the bloodiest chapters in the history of Fiendfell.

As with every conflict this land has known in the four hundred years since the reincarnation of the First Dungeon Master into Fiendfell, there is no way our vessel-hopping protagonists would simply watch from the sidelines. They will have their stake in it. Alliances will be drawn, broken, and redrawn; old allies will become liabilities, and unexpected hands will be extended from the last places anyone thought to look. In a continent tearing itself apart, survival means choosing sides, and choosing well.

Book 1 of The Gift of Loot is out on Amazon on eBook, audio, and paperback formats.

Blurb:

He who has the most loot, wins.

System Integration has been announced on Earth and Thomas just wants to keep his skin intact, maybe carve out a life that's more interesting than the one he's had so far. Is it too much to hope for both?

When he steps inside a dungeon for the first time, he receives a magical Gift that reflects the shape of his soul: Now every monster kill drops mana crystals, weapons, and powerful gear.

While others struggle to survive in a new world, Thomas begins to build something far more dangerous: An advantage.

(Basically it's a modern day LitRPG Apoc with a normal guy who gets a fun cheat Gift. While it's action/adventure oriented, it doesn't slip into grim-dark. Look at the colorful cover. We're here for a good, loot-filled time.)

The brass tacks (Not tax, as I've always thought):

eBook: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HM6FSP51

Audio: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0HMTHZ7Y9

(Audio narrated by THE Johnathan McClain of Bog Standard Isekai and Noobtown fame. I listened to the book ahead of time and to absolutely no surprise he did an amazing job.)
