So I’m currently working a full time job. I am however looking to supplement my income with a part time job. If anyone in the Lancaster area has any info on anyone who is hiring for part time work. Particularly if they’re hiring right away. I would greatly appreciate any leads.

Does being Amish make one qualified to be in congress?

Or is Lloyd trying to get unregistered Amish votes?

Also I thought Amish people only had a middle school education not high school education?

LNP follows-up Common “Watchdog” with snarking editorial takedown

The horse is dead, but got a chuckle out of one more whack:

Common running club in Lancaster could use some lessons in common courtesy [editorial]

THE ISSUE
The Lancaster running club Common gathers for weekly runs that can include more than 300 people breaking off into groups and running either a 2- or 4-mile loop through Lancaster city’s West End neighborhood. Critics say the club is a nuisance to pedestrians and vehicle drivers.

Common describes itself in its social media posts as a “group fed up with being told what to do and how to do it.”

The club says it emphasizes “moments over miles.” It’s “all for people.”

And it’s not just about running! It’s “about demanding more. Forcing connection when the world tells you to scroll past each other. Creating community when everything else tries to divide us.”

All you need to “change your life” is “one second of courage,” according to the club’s social media. But you also should interrogate “the values you grew up with,” because it’s “on us to shape the world.”
Also, “Truth is a pathless land.”
And, “We are not here to fit in.
“We’re here to demand more from ourselves and from the place we call home.
“This is movement.
“This is revolt disguised as a run.
“This is community in its rawest form — loud, unfiltered, and impossible to ignore.”

It is impossible to ignore, all right. But we’re not sure what Common is revolting against. Or exactly what Common is demanding.

The right to wear Lululemon joggers and Common-branded merch and ingest Common electrolyte powder ($44.95 for a one-time purchase)?

Who’s to say?

Common just says that if “you’re tired of the scripted life, tired of the fake, tired of playing nice,” you should join.
Because — has Common mentioned this? — this “is not about running. This is about refusing the version of life we’ve been handed and building something better, together.”

As you may have inferred, Common has a pretty lofty view of itself. That view is not shared by online critics and some Lancaster city residents, however, because this running club that is not just about running has been known to take over city streets and sidewalks on Thursday evenings, pedestrians and vehicle drivers be damned.

The term “menaces” has been applied to the Common hordes, as they thunder past, presumably on the way to finding truth, that pathless land.

They are not the only people viewed as menaces on Lancaster streets and sidewalks, of course.

Daredevil e-bike riders slice and dice their way through traffic. Scooter riders stunt annoyingly on sidewalks. Bicyclists swarm in their fancy, multicolored spandex outfits, drawing the ire of vehicle drivers even when legally riding two-abreast on the road.

But Common is in a category of its own.

“Some say,” Common says in a Facebook post, “it’s the best cult in Lancaster county.”

We’re guessing that’s meant to be a joke, but there is something cultish in Common’s intimation that joining it could be life-changing.

However — and this cannot be understated — this running club that’s not just about running is bringing people together. And its members engage in an activity that can cultivate both mental and physical fitness.

We’d just suggest that if they’re intent on shaping the world, they should probably be a little more respectful of other people in the world.

Lindy Kraska told LNP | LancasterOnline’s “Lancaster Watchdog” column that she was walking down Lemon Street in Lancaster city on the evening of Oct. 8 carrying several bags when some 100 Common runners overtook her on the sidewalk. Several runners, she said, knocked into her and blamed her for being in the way.

“It wasn’t a great feeling,” Kraska said. “It definitely didn’t feel safe.”

We’re sure it didn’t.

And, she said, when Common’s founder Curran Blevins contacted her, he seemed to dismiss her concerns.
Common courtesy — and we mean both common and Common courtesy — would dictate that an apology was in order.

But in his own interview with the Watchdog, Blevins didn’t seem inclined to apologize. (So much for Common’s pontificating about community.)

He’s seen many of the comments made online about Common, but he ascribed them to “karens” or “trolls,” and said his club had proven to be a benefit to Lancaster city by supporting local businesses and holding events to support nonprofits.

“The only rule of Common is no hate,” Blevins said. “But all we actually have are people throwing stones and hiding their hands around us in Lancaster, when we should actually be supported by all of these people.”

We were struck by Blevins’ use of the pejorative “karen.” It’s generally used to describe privileged white women. But who is exerting privilege here? Blevins said people “should” be supporting Common, but why, actually, does his club deserve support?

According to the “Lancaster Watchdog” column, runners are considered pedestrians under Chapter 35 of Pennsylvania’s Vehicle Code. Lt. Glenn Stoltzfus, a community engagement officer with the Lancaster city police, told this newspaper that under the law, pedestrians and runners should use the sidewalk where it’s available, and if they are using the street they should stay as close to the curb as possible.

Common could also run, say, in a large park out of the way of pedestrians and vehicle drivers — lands with, you know, established paths as opposed to pathless lands — but we guess that wouldn’t fit the rad Common vibe, which doesn’t seem at all concerned with the comfort of others.

On Common’s many social media videos, devotees drop f-bombs, stick out their tongues and wax poetic about the friends they’ve made in the club. The terms “ruckus,” “takeover” and “chaos” appear frequently in the club’s social media posts.

“People Matter,” says one post. “Put em’ first and just watch what happens.”

Oh, we’ll watch, for sure, as Common demonstrates — over and over again — which people matter to this running club that’s not just about running, and which people it puts first.

Missing kitten found in Duke St Garage

Just found a little tuxedo kitten in the Duke Street garage. He seemed just about 8 weeks? Would not let me get anywhere near him and meowed a lot, then climbed up into a car :( I didn't have a pen and paper to leave a note but the car has MD plates.
