Meta New 'Games & Grids' Post Flair, Images/Gifs in Comments, and Rules!
We've been making some small adjustments to the rules and infrastructure here in r/kpoppers recently.
The primary things we're trying out starting today are the 'Games & Grids' flair for posts and also allowing Images and Gifs in comments.
The 'Games & Grids' flair should be used for any thread games or grid fill-ins. We'll see over time if this name encompasses everything we intend it to. It has been requested by users and we think it's a good idea, so let's give it try!
Images and Gifs are now allowed down in comments. We want to be careful with this one. Media like this should NEVER be used to mock, harass, or threaten any of your fellow users or artists. Use media appropriately in response to discussion topics, games, or in fun conversation with each other.
If you see Images or Gifs being used crudely or inappropriately, please report the comment immediately so the moderators can take action.
Rules were also updated a little in late June. Here are the main ones to note:
2. Use Descriptive Titles - Titles should describe the content of the post. Do not use vague titles for Fan-made content. Funny posts may be more flexible and creative.
4. No Artist Photo Spam - Artist photos should only be posted with relevant context. They should be funny or related to the post's topic. Photos alone will be removed.
6. Keep Content Light and Fun - Discussion topics, Jokes, and Fan-made content should be positive in nature. We want to keep things light and fun in this subreddit. Heavy or negative content will be removed.
We may end up adding more new rules related to the 'Games & Grids' flair and the appropriate use of Images/Gifs in comments later once we see the range of how they are used by everyone.
We'll also note that we are aware of how often a trend will take off here, be adopted by dozens of posters, and quickly overwhelm the subreddit. This is somewhat inevitable for a community that has less restrictive rules and is more of a free-for-all of fun content. Each time this happens, users ask us to implement new rules and flairs. We are hesitant to do this each time because these trends typically run their course and fall out of popularity eventually. The times when we have responded more quickly to specific trends have resulted in the trend dying completely and immediately being replaced by a new one. We'd be on an endless chase to limit them if we tried this every time, which isn't necessarily healthy for the community either.
But if you have any other suggestions for handling trends or for anything else that might help us improve the subreddit at all, feel free to chime in below!

Discussion What group was never truly the same after losing a member?
This question was somewhat inspired by the recent disbandment Tempest. Many fans stated that the group was never the same after Hwarang left since he contributed a lot to the group. I also got the idea for this from this post on r/askteddit.
Edit: A group doing fine after the member departure does not automatically disqualify them from being an answer.

Discussion (AA) Everybody KPOP groups and singers still going strong, while my first and fave one is left to memories. π
AA was my very first KPOP group I got into heavy back in 2012 thanks to their song "Because I'm Crazy" (That MV is fucking AMAZING) and their EP was fire. Was my first exposure to this kind of world and then they all went their separate ways kinda in 2015, I was so heartbroken at the time hahaha.
It's crazy how after them I just couldn't get into anything after them (Been an on and off KPOP guy for years) like their choreography and vocals were truly unmatched least for me (They truly were some amazing talents). I was one of the main ones that enjoyed their time in the sun for sure. At least Aoora still sings and performs (He was always my fave one in the group lol) Always nostalgic for this group. β€οΈ

Discussion what are some short songs that feel complete and perfectly fine as is
are there any songs from any group (title tracks, b-sides, any song whatever) that are shorter than 3 minutes that you honestly think feel complete and are perfectly fine as is and don't NEED to be longer? like sure, we can WANT it to be longer. we could always WANT another chorus or a longer bridge (or a bridge, in general, if there isn't one to begin with) but maybe... maybe the song doesn't NEED it and it's actually works great the way it is
for me, this cuts very close to 3 minutes but i think "black mamba" by aespa doesn't need to be any longer even though it's 2:55. i also think "moonstruck" by enhypen (2:39) and "perfume" by nct dojaejung are complete enough to me.

Discussion Underrated Aces in Kpop
When people discuss Aces in Kpop I feel like the same names are always brought, and with good reason, theyβre phenomenal: Taemin, Han Jisung, Jungkook, Soyeon, etc
But I wanna know if thereβs some less known or less discussed Aces that any of you know of.
But I do wanna make clear the difference between an Ace and an Allrounder
The requirements to be considered an ACE (imo):
- Excels as a vocalist / could be main vocalist
- Excels as a dancer / fits in with main dancers
- Excels as a rapper / has rapped on multiple tracks including writing their verses
- Excels as a performer / has amazing presence, power, and energy on stage
- Excels as a Visual, not in terms of attractiveness or beauty standard, but in terms of expressive facials and perceived emotion
- Excels in writing and composing / has multiple writing credits on large portions of songs and has written full songs on their own (even if unreleased)
An allrounder is someone who can do anything, theyβre pretty good at vocals, rap, dance, stage presence.
The Aces I wanted to discuss:
β’ Jiung- P1harmony- phenomenal vocalists, great dancer, a skilled rapper who often writes his own verses, many writing credits on their groups music and has shared unreleased work heβs written and composed himself. Wish he got more recognition for just how extraordinary he is.
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTfVbyVMX/
β’ Bangchan and Changbin- Stray Kids- not underrated as idols but often overlooked as Aces because theyβre in the same group as Han who is well known as THE Ace to many people. But Changbin is often overlooked for his vocals but he has an amazing voice if you check out his masked singer episode, also one of the best really Buff dancers Iβve seen. Bangchan being the most credited idol in Kpop history, being a lead vocalist while also in the rap trio 3racha, the only thing he could possibly lack in is dance but heβs still very very good.
β’ Son Juone- Keyveatz- while I wouldnβt call her an ace quite yet as they just debuted like 4 months ago, Iβm absolutely positive she will be in the next year or so, and could be one of the best in 5th gen. Extraordinary dancer, excels in both vocals and rapping, amazing stage presence and visuals. The only thing she needs is more writing credits and solo work, she has contributed to 2 of their group songs writing her own raps, and wrote a lot of her solo song DOC. She has expressed wanting to be more involved in the future with writing and has written her own songs that havenβt been shared.

Let me know your thoughts :)

Games & Grids My daily K-pop guessing game turned into 4 games since I last posted here
Hi!
Last year I shared my project kguesser.com, a daily game where you guess a K-pop song from short audio hints. A lot of you played it and gave me feedback, and I've kept working on it in my free time since then. It's grown way more than I expected (hundreds of you play it now, thank you!), so I wanted to come back and show you where it's at.
Based on the messages I received, I've added over the weeks:
- Guess the artist: another daily game. Listen to a song and name the group or idol behind it.
- Guess the year: endless mode. An MV plays and you get 3 tries to find the year it came out.
- Guess the view count: endless mode too. Find how many views the MV currently has!
- A news page dedicated to comebacks and MV releases.
It's still free and without ads, and you don't need an account to play. Logging in just lets you keep your streak and play past days if you missed them.
I'm now looking for what to add next. If you have new game ideas, a feature, or anything you think would be nice, I'm listening!

Games & Grids found an addictive kpop game in Roblox
Hi guys I want to recommend a game i come across called "My KPOP Card Farm" in Roblox and got to say it is one of the most addictive KPOP games I've played in a while. However there's no active players on the server barely 2 players in it which I found surprising. I highly recommended everyone to play the game.

Playlist my saved songs after 16 months into kpop
both BG and GG playlist also contain gender-non-confoming groups (like Newkin and Xlov) and co-ed stuff, that's why the collective playlist has less than the sum of the other two

Review Beyond the Album - IVE Can Kill
βββββββ ββ’Β°βΒ°β’β βββββββ
Hey everyone, yesterday IVE returned with a new mini album, and as I mentioned in the ILLIT review, I'll be talking about the IVE project tomorrow. Iβve been curious to see what the group will be bringing to the table this time around with their new music. I did enjoy REVIVE+, which has been on repeat for me since it was released earlier this year. Now letβs jump into the project and see what the group brought to the table.Β
βββββββ ββ’Β°βΒ°β’β βββββββ

Looks Can Kill - IVE
The title track was pre-released last week, and after hearing it twice when it came out, I didnβt remember much of it. Iβve heard it a couple of times now, and Iβm in the middle of the tune. IVE goes for a brisk electro-pop beat with a singing-talking performance. Iβve seen the chorus grow on me with each listen, as it has an addictive vibe that keeps pulling me back for more. The rap in the second verse is pretty fun, as it blends with the thumping instrumental. The bridge might be my favorite section, as it delivers a melodically dramatic moment, adding to the overall vibe. I do find the verses to be a bit plain, as the hook has more meat to it, but thatβs not making me dislike the overall song. I might not be the biggest fan of the track, but itβs still something I can listen to from time to time.Β

γβββββββ~β~βββββββγ
Piano and strings delivering a haunting vibe open up Mirror Mirror, the second song on the project. I found myself pulled right into the track cause the intro intrigued me. The members go for a low, breathy, and atmospheric vocal performance that blends perfectly with the backing track. I find the vocal performance reminiscent of Blue Blood, which is a B-side from the group I love. The melody when they sing Mirror Mirror is another moment that pulls me right into the track. The more I hear the chorus, the more I fall in love with this song, as that moment keeps pulling me back for more. Iβve found myself loving it when IVE delivers a darker sound, and as a B-side, Mirror Mirror does an excellent job.Β

γβββββββ~β~βββββββγ
SNAKESKIN caught me off guard with its experimental and glitchy vibe. The producers put a lot of layering on the members' vocals, which I wasnβt sure I liked at first, but Iβm getting used to it now. I do like the aggressive rap section that Rei and Gaeul bring to the table, adding to the vibe. I do like the fast, thumping nature the instrumental delivers, as that is one thing bringing me back for more. The hook clicked with me right away, as itβs been replaying in my head like crazy. The vocal line delivers a climax right after the aggressive rap that hit hard. I find myself replaying this song a lot since it was released cause it has so much depth to it.Β

γβββββββ~β~βββββββγ
4. CRUMBS
Members Gaeul and Liz take part in the lyrics for CRUMBS, which is always good to see when members help with lyrics. The instrumental goes for a laid-back vibe with an infectious groove. I find the laid-back vibe to be a great switch-up from the last intense tunes. The members' vocals have this smooth feeling to them, which blends wonderfully with the overall vibe. The bouncy electro-pop vibe helps to keep that relaxing nature that lets the vocals stand out in the mix. The chorus is the smoothest moment, as itβs something that continues to grow on me with each listen. The rapping is just as smooth, fitting with a disco-sounding section that switches up the vibe a bit. I still think CRUMBS needs to grow on me more, but at the moment Iβm still enjoying what the group has brought to the table.Β

γβββββββ~β~βββββββγ
The title of the fifth song on the album made the Got7 song of the same name pop up in my head for a moment. I found Girls Girls Girls to be a bit basic for an IVE song, as it went for a bright-pop vibe. I found the song structure to be the most predictable on the album, but that didnβt fully make me dislike what was delivered. I do like the pop progressions that help to maximize the members' vocals. The chorus isnβt bad, but it feels a bit generic compared to what IVE normally delivers. I donβt fully love this track, as I wish they added more to it to make it stand out, but at the moment I can still listen to what they brought to the table.Β

γβββββββ~β~βββββββγ
The closer of the project brings in a synth-pop vibe that has this nostalgic vibe to it, which helps end out the record perfectly. The instrumental does have this warmth to it, which fits the members' vocals. I love the performance the members bring to the table, as itβs one thing keeping this tune fresh in my mind. The hook is perfect for this type of tune as it does a great job helping ot close out the album. The group brings in smooth vocal harmonies that add to the vibe of the instrumental.Β

βββββββ ββ’Β°βΒ°β’β βββββββ
Summary:Β IVE is back with a new mini album that will continue to grow on me as Iβve been listening to it a lot. Looks Can Kill is a track that Iβm in the middle of, but I donβt fully dislike it. I find that Mirror Mirror is the best song on the project since it has so much depth to it. I might not fully love this mini album from the group, but itβs still one that continues to grow, and I find something new to love about it with each listen.Β
βββββββ ββ’Β°βΒ°β’β βββββββ
