Tips and Tricks First moment of weakness, iso words of encouragement

I'm hugely motivated to lose weight. I used to train a lot, spent years in gyms until I tore off my ACL. One year waiting for surgery, 1 year physiotherapy, then life got in a way and I gained 20kg in the process. I obviously had to stop most physical activities, and I also WFH so that doesn't help. The time has come to get back in shape because I can't look at myself anymore.

I'm new to keto and never been on any diet before, it's only been 2 weeks. I'm keeping track of what I eat and stay in a 500kcal deficit and under 20g of carbs. I eat wholefoods, it's mainly steaks, bacon, eggs and veggies. I dont eat seafood. I've lost about 8kg so far and I know most of it is just water, but this is the only thing that keeps me motivated. I still have about 11-16kg to lose so that's at least 3-4 months of hard work I guess.

I miss my old food so much. I can live without pasta and rice but I would kill for a slice of freshly baked bread. I miss lidls apple turnovers. I miss chocolate, cereal and fruit. I miss milk and milkshakes. When I go to Lidl I literally have my eyes closed walking through the first aisle, it's fruit and bakery - all the things I love and not one thing I can eat. Is this ever going to change?

Are there any keto friendly foods/hacks that can help me go through it? I don't care if it's dirty keto, I just don't want to go out of ketosis at least until I reach my target weight.

One thing keto improved for you that you didn't expect

When people talk about keto, the focus is usually on weight loss. But I'm curious about the changes you noticed beyond the scale. Did you experience fewer cravings, better focus, more stable energy or something completely unexpected?

How long did it take you to become "fat adapted"?

In the past I've done keto and when I was adapted I remember feeling limitless energy, even when doing intense exercise. I'm going back on keto again and maybe in a different spot healthwise than a decade ago, I'm a few weeks in and feeling better overall but exercise still feels difficult.

I figure I need to get deeper into ketosis and become more "adapted" again but also at one point I was so adapted that I could go off keto and the limitless energy would come back after 1-2 days low carb, or even after 20-22 hours of intermittent fasting... so it just makes me wonder.

How long did it take you before you could do moderate to intense cardio or strength training, and not feel like you're low on energy?

I do believe my electrolytes are fine atm.

A1C down from 10.0 to 5.3 in 4 months ☺️

Cheap meals on Keto?

I tried it before and was very pleased with the results. Sadly these past 2 years i had fallen in to a deep depression and didnt care for my self image and binge ate most my weight back (i was around 240 now im back to 289) and am looking to diet again. My financial situation is dfferent so i only have about 100 to 150 dollars a month to budget for Food. What are some budget keto meals/foods you could suggest and stuff to snack on. I was big on beef jerky and almonds for snacking back then but im sure theres other options. Im not a picky eater so any suggestions that are viable on a budget, im all ears. It should be noted im generally not crazy about cooking so simple stuff appeals to me more

Food and Recipes Coffee help?

Pre-keto I'd have maybe a quarter cup of milk in my coffee. I decided to switch to the coffee mate french vanilla zero sugar creamer, and I was loving it until recently. I kind of can't stand it now? When I did keto years back, I remember putting cream in my coffee and I didn't love it, so I just put milk and used it as my carb allowance. I don't particularly want to do that this time. I want my carb allowance for my food.

So coffee lovers, what do you do? Is there a better way to add cream to coffee?

Help Twelve weeks to my first marathon. What are the best protein ready meals for someone on keto?

I don't know if this is the right space to share this since it's a bit all over the place, so sorry about that. I'll be participating in my first marathon in around 12 weeks and I'm training like it's the only thing that matters, maybe because after some ups and down in life it might as well be but that's not the issue here.

Thing is, I'm struggling a lot with eating right and staying consistent with keto while also dying of exhaustion and everything else that's also going on. It's gone so bad that the other day someone unknowingly stopped me from eating toast and peanut butter when they asked if I wasn't doing keto any more, lmao. This also led me to a bunch of my friends sending me a ton of ads for those meal delivery services and while I know that they mean well and are trying to support me in whatever way they can, a lot of them aside from maybe one or two like cookunity and some others don't even offer keto options or don't appear to label them properly.

I don't know what to do without giving up and taking a break, maybe, but as I said before that's not something I'd like to do at all. Maybe just need a push in the right direction and some motivation as well. Thanks!

Help Day 9 terrible neck pain - hormones?

I am on my 2nd attempt at keto. I am also taking low dose HRT. The first time I tried keto, I made it to day 6/7 and then had what I can only describe as frozen shoulder - took me to urgent care the pain was so bad. Here I am attempt 2 about a month later - I’m on day 9 and just like before I am having major left shoulder neck pain. It’s like I can’t even turn my neck or move and I do feel a lot of tension at the base of my neck. I am going heavy on electrolytes - make ketoade and use salt and lite-salt heavily, I do an electrolyte drop that has magnesium.

Is starting keto somehow causing this neck/shoulder pain…like hormones shifting suddenly or muscles cramping due to hormones? It just seems odd it happened the same way two times in a row. I want to stick with it, but the pain is so bad.

What changed for you on keto that had nothing to do with weight loss?

I'm curious because weight loss seems to get most of the attention, but I wonder what other changes people notice. Did you experience fewer cravings, better focus. more stable energy or something completely unexpected?

What's the hardest part of staying keto that people who've never tried it don't understand?

For me, it's nor just giving up carbs, It's how challenging it can be stay consistent when cravings hit or when everyone around you eats whatever they want. People assume it's just about will power, but there's more to it than that. What's the hardest part for you that the other people just don't seem to understand?

Started this journey in July and am down 32 pounds. I love that I no longer feel cravings for sugary foods or bread or pasta. I don’t feel hungry after having smaller portions. I feel satiated from normal portions of meat and vegetables. I love not feeling stuffed and gross after a meal.

My husband and I started walking around the neighborhood after dinner again now that it’s not so hot outside. I was worried that after not doing our walks for a few months that I would be winded and exhausted but I kept up and was hardly out of breath at all by the end.

Sometimes I have dreams that I’ve cheated on my diet and in the dream I feel bloated and gross. Then I wake up and I’m like oh thank god lol.

We’re going on a cruise next July and if I can keep up this average of losing 1.5 pounds a week, I think I’ll be looking hot for our vacation. 😆😉

Other Keto for Depression

How long did it take for anyone dealing with depression? I’m a month in with a few inconsistent days but optimistically feel like the fog is lifting. Hoping this is the answer I’ve been looking for since early teen years. Thanks for sharing any thoughts/experiences!

Did you notice any face changes

What benefits or negatives did you notice on face? Skin, eyebags, jawline, etc.

Besides the obvious weightloss, is there any benefit from ketosis on face skin youth?

How long did it take you to see any benefits

Food and Recipes I used to over think keto but now I don't

I used to overthink what recipes to do and what other things I should do to keep on track with keto but now I don't. I used to make those awful keto cakes and almond flour cupcakes and stuff but now I eat clean keto. It's amazing how different I feel when I eat clean keto.. like avocados and chicken and minced beef and eggs and ham and cheese and all the really good things in life.. I reckon eddie abbew would be happy with me at the moment.. haha ..

Tips and Tricks Advice and motivation for weightloss?

I have gained a lot of weight in this past 6-7 months and now is finally time to do something about it. I am 30yo woman with pcos, 163cm and 70kg. And I am looking for some advice and motivation for weightloss 😊

So my fellow (pcos) women, how has your weightloss journey been on keto? How much do you eat, like what is your calorie deficit?
And how fast did you start dropping weight? I know this is kind of weird question, but I am just so uncomfortable in my body at the moment. I don’t feel like myself at all and have been avoiding mirrors for months. So I am just asking to get motivation to keep on going on this journey.
Or you can share just any weightloss / keto advice that you find important (especially if it’s pcos related).

Sense of smell returned whilst on keto.

I lost my sense of smell after sinus surgery many years ago. After only two weeks of keto my sense of smell has returned. I was walking along the street and as I walked past a woman I could smell her perfume, and I could still smell it well after I was past her. I live in a block of flats and as I walked past flats to get to my flat I noticed the smells of cooking, smoking, perfume etc. I googled about smell returning while doing keto, this is what I found...A heightened sense of smell is commonly reported by individuals on a ketogenic diet, often due to metabolic changes that occur during ketosis. Many people notice this increased sensitivity to odors, especially during fasting periods or early in their keto journey.

Help I need help going keto

THIS IS FROM THE BOTTOM-UP AKA MY LAST PARAGRAPH AND THE POINT OF MY POST

My point is, can someone please guide me and tell me what to eat and what to expect... I only eat twice a day.

The menu options I have: chicken, tinned tuna, eggs (not everyday please), mince (only eat lean beef mince because I have a taste-the-animal problem lol), pumpkin, avocado, cheese, cabbage, carrot, gem squash, broccoli and the other veg is a bit meh to stomach... so not very often... and then salad like lettuce, tomato, cucumber, I can do that a few times a week... when its hot lol.... I'm full of shit sorry 😞. I like convenience, budget, I'm in South Africa so please note that turkey is not a staple here.

***Soooo, keto is the way to go for me... I have a carb addiction and tons of food noise and and and... keto is the only eating plan that actually shuts all of that tf up. Also, I have a ton of FODMAP sensitivities and and and.... keto is the best for my gut and all.

So I was on it previously for a year and then budget ran tight, hubby introduced pasta and I went wild.... its been a year since then too.... I tried balanced diets and no, just no, it does not work for me.

I tried keto again, been overthinking it, used "my netdiary" to track my carbs and then it just seemed that everything would take me over the 25g... then on Friday of all days I had this headache and fatigue, wasn't sure whether it was carbflu and ended up having a burger roll and and and.... then I had a shit weekend. If it was carbflu, it came at a bad time....

Help Will Keto help with my issues?

So I’m 45 male 6’3” 301 lbs. I’ve tried keto, carnivore, and fasting when I was younger to some success. I lost 70lbs in 2017 with fasting only. I’ve been big but also athletic my whole life. I’ve been a trail runner, hiker, basketball player, kettlebell slinger, etc. up until about 4 years ago. Then I got a desk job and it’s all went to shit. I just can’t seem to lose the weight. I have the following issues.

Barrett’s esophagus/acid reflux
Annular tear/bulged disk in lower back
Torn labrums in both shoulders. Left is worse.
High blood pressure
Constant sinus and allergy issues
Left knee pain
Poor skin
Low energy
Low libido

I’m sure there is more. I go to the doctor regularly. He calls me a machine because my bloodwork is always superb even with all these issues. A1c is great. Labs are great. I just want to feel better before I get older. I want to get back to being active. Anyone else have experience with these issues? Advice is greatly appreciated.

Merci

Food and Recipes I roasted a carving pumpkin

TLDR it's savory!

Every year during this time I roast a little pie pumpkin and eat it alongside my green vegetables. It's my seasonal indulgence. I know theoretically they are edible, but most sources on the internet say it will not be tasty.

I peeled and sliced it into one inch cubes. Tossed with olive oil, salt and pepper and roasted on parchment paper. 400 degrees for about 25 minutes.

It was delicious! The flavor was like a less sweet butternut squash and the texture was slightly like spaghetti squash. The fibers are not robust enough to be shredded like spaghetti squash.

I am pleasantly surprised because it's really cheap when you consider the volume of food you get for the cost. And it is sturdy enough to chop up and freeze to cook later. Plus, properly stored undamaged pumpkin can last the entire winter season. I think it can be eaten as a mash, added to soups and stews and roasted.

I am not sure of the nutritional value. It's gotta have less carbs than traditional winter squash varieties, but probably not like summer squash.

This inspires me to look into growing pumpkins in my yard next year.

[2026-10-25] - [Stocking Stuffer Sunday] – Fun Keto Victories

Hello r/keto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you are a kid, the big present under the tree was ALL THAT MATTERED!!!! It captivated our imagination for hours upon hours. Is it a new Big Wheel? A huge train set? Maybe even a new bicycle that we can put together. Christmas day, we attacked that present like that bear would attack those 100 dudes--with total carnage. At the same time, pinned to the mantle/wall was the stocking. When you are 6 years old, the stocking is at best an after thought. Typically it was socks and underwear and IT'S CHRISTMAS SO WHY IS SANTA GIVING ME SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR!!!!!!!

Jump skip to today. As an adult, the stocking stuffer is an AWESOME present!!! Oh, it's still socks and underwear, but at some point, socks and underwear became an awesome present. Welcome to being an adult. I'm so old Geritol is about to be my stocking stuffer. FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have created this super duper thread so we can all share our "fun" victories this week. NOT the big scale victories, but the fun little victories. Why do we need to share these victories? Because pretty soon, you will learn that the small victories--the stocking stuffer victories--are the ones that keep you fired up.

Every Sunday. A chance for you to shout above the rooftops of the world the things that improved for you this week by eating a ketogenic diet.

If you're new to r/keto and need some info, start with Keto in a Nutshell and the FAQ. Or, if you have a question that doesn't seem to be covered, head on over to the Community Support thread (pinned to the top of the subreddit) and ask the community!

Success Story Two weeks of keto and 6,5 lbs down (36F)

Sharing this small celebration because this sub and these stories motivated me when I started two weeks ago: I am a 36-year-old female with two children aged 2 and 4, and a very busy schedule. I decided to give keto a go for exactly 10 days because I had NEVER been able to stick to any plan for over a week. It’s been exactly two weeks and I’ve lost 6,5lbs. I can see the results on the scale and in my face, and I feel it in my clothes. I still have a long way to go before I can confidently say I’m turning this into a lifestyle, but I couldn’t be happier with my progress and more excited about the future! So grateful for this sub for all the advice and motivation.

Help Wife feeling dizziness.

I have slowly but surely been introducing my wife to keto. Going on approximately 2 weeks now. When we are both home, I prepare keto-friendly breakfasts, dinners, and evening meals for both of us. Otherwise, I let her eat whatever she likes—though she only eats sweets or junk food every other weekend, and she very rarely consumes sugary drinks. Over the last 3–4 days, she has been feeling dizzy at work. So far, I’ve just suggested that she take electrolyte supplements and drink more water.

Do you think the carbohydrate decrease in her diet is the cause, or could it be something else?
