Image No fucking way
They finally gave Tajikistan its own formable in the new patch (I know this is probably niche but I’m Tajik and I was always confused about Tajikistan having Turkestan as its formable as Tajiks are mostly Iranians)
And it’s a good one too not just a recycled one :D

Image Join the Entente, they said. They will beat Germany for you, they said.
I held versus Germany for three years, did not lose a single tile, had them at a 1:5 ratio minimum, 600k casualties on their side, then got invited to the Little Entente. Great, I thought, this way I can win and get the You Shall Not Pass achievement.
Well, what happened? France thought we gotta declare on Italy too before getting rid of Disjointed Government. They did get their face smashed in through the Maginot the second they joined, and it went well for a while. We even got the civil war on the most competent Italy of all time, somehow. But then they Invited Ireland to the faction which brought us against the UK. Then they died.
Does any one of you think this is salvageable?

Question Can't take Secure "The New State focus" as German Military Junta
After finishing the civil war, the game is saying my current ruling party is fascist (or another country sharing my name?), despite my ruling party not being fascist nor having any fascism support (I banned fascism to see if it would let me take the focus). I'm pretty much soft locked in my focus tree until I can take the focus. Any fixes or ideas?

Image Is this a good multi purpose infantry( mass production, i wont produce anything else)
im trying communist germany and im not doing a full tank division. If anyone knows how to integrate tanks or spgs into this template (and if i should) plz tell me. Also what doctrines should i chose for this playstyle.

Discussion Is mass assault good now?
For the longest time MA has been the weakest doctrine. However in the latest patch, the max infantry track reward is giving -0.2 to inf combat width. The large unit tactics has been nerfed slightly, from -0.3 to -0.2, however together the results are stronger than before at -0.4 which effectively means 20% extra infantry per combat width. Personally i think this gives MA a much needed niche, as it now rewards infantry-only batalions armies that are not special forces

Mod (other) Hoidesigner is now up to date with 1.19.4
👋 Hey
Just updated Hoidesigner to align with the 1.19.4 patch that got released. It touched a lot of things that impact designs, from stats and research to doctrines and MIOs, and everything’s been updated to match.
For anyone who hasn't come across it yet, Hoidesigner is a browser-based planner for HOI4 where you can build and test your designs and templates while comparing different research, doctrine and MIO paths.
Tanks, TDs and mech got shaken up the most, so it's worth loading your old templates to see how they hold up.
You can check it out @ https://hoidesigner.com
Reach out if you stumble on anything weird
Cheers!

Image New Formable for Afghanistan lets you make Great Yuan
First you need to form Greater Mongolia (Same path) and then after you control Beijing, you get to do the focus to form Great Yuan. Pretty cool.

Image Reclaiming the mandate of heaven as Afghanistan in the new patch
I really like playing Afghanistan and when I saw that it got a "late game formable" in the patch notes I just had to check it out.
To my suprise there were two new formables for Afghanistan, 'Great Yuan' and 'Turan' due to Bukharan dynasty ties or whatever. Now Afghanistan can unify the turks and form Turan or form greater Mongolia and take over the mantle of Yuan. Both options also core central Asia excluding Kazakhstan via a seperate focus.
To get these you have to play the Bukharan Emir and just go down the tree, these aren't secrets for whatever reason. I like that you actually have to form the first fromables to get to the big ones, but I would change the focuses up a bit.
I would split it between the Bukharan Emir and Mughal Prince paths (+make you control Ankarra/Beijing for the big formable focus to appear). So the Bukharan Emir can unify the turks as that path focuses on central Asia and the Bukharan Emirate specifically. While the Mughal path leads to the Timurid Empire which is way closer to the Mongol empire and the Yuan dynasty. It would lead to an extremely strong empire coring all of India, China, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Burma but who cares at this point.
As the the Great Yuan, you can core all of China, greater Mongolia, central Asia (Excluding Kazakhstan), Iran and Pakistan. After the civil war I almost immedietly attacked Iran as you can really easily core them, then I attacked the soviets alongside Germany, I found it really fun to encircle them in central Asia with an 80% cav attack bonus, when they capitulated I took everything East of the Urals + the Caucasus and Don regions. Then I attacked China because Japan was winning, then I almost died because Japan wasn't winning anymore and capitulated to the Americans, then I managed to join the Allies via a focus and killed China except the Allies released a bunch of stuff. I did wrestle out Greater Mongolia and Beijing so I did form the 'Great Yuan', but the screenshot is seconds before I declared war on China, got kicked from the Allies while China joined them and the Allies killed me.

Discussion Who is the historically worst general in HoI4?
I ask this because I was giving armies to a bunch of trashy Soviet generals with awful traits and I googled one of their names and found an all-time stinker.
Gregory Kulik, Marshal of the Soviet Union (Old Guard, Inflexible Strategist, Career Officer, Politically Connected) started life as a corporal or sergeant in the Russian Army before he joined the Red Army during the revolution in 1919, where he became besties with Joseph Stalin. He was made commander of artillery for the army that Stalin commanded at the time even though the army only had three guns and Kulik had no prior experience with artillery, and somehow got promoted to general and was brought along for Stalin's attempted invasion of Poland, where he sucked so bad that he was relieved of his command almost immediately.
He then spent the next two decades failing upwards and generally ignoring the purges because his unofficial position as "guy that Stalin thinks you can have a beer with" shielded him from all consequences, and spent most of his time writing extensively about how every new military technology and doctrine of the last half century was wrong and dumb and gay and should under no circumstances be adopted by the Red Army.
Then when Germany invaded he was given command of an army on the Leningrad front, sucked so badly that he was fired immediately again, and only avoided execution by virtue of being a close personal pal of Stalin. He then spent the rest of the war bouncing around in various "you suck but we can't fire you because it'd be embarrassing" positions before finally getting purged and executed in one of Stalin's last paranoid fits in the late 1940s.
So the big question is: who's even worse?

Image Germany benched me for WW3
Im doing a Hungary run and Germany never invited me to the axis after they stole my money so I can’t join them through the focus. I’ve just kind of been watching the world pass me by and now its 1951 with Germany and Italy fighting Japan while I’ve just been selling guns to Italy and Afghanistan

Dev Diary HOI IV | QoL War Effort Patch 1.19.4
Generals!
Christmas is coming a little early this year in the shape of a large War Effort update. Once again we have put emphasis on adding various QoL features we feel improve the Hearts of Iron IV experience.
This has been an effort to address some of the outstanding requests we have been seeing over time from our community and we hope you will enjoy them. While there are quite a few things we’ve addressed, we want to do more of these updates that improve the overall user experience to feel more modern than the game actually is (TEN years is a long time…).
A lot of you have indirectly contributed to this update by sharing your thoughts with us over time and having conversations with each other on what you would want to see to make the game better for all of you. There is always room for improvement and I look forward to your feedback as always, I am sure we will want to iterate more on our QOL features after extensive community usage.
And last but not least with this update we will also roll out the last changes from the Open Beta ‘Summer Edition’ that we felt were good changes to the game, so you will be seeing a large amount of balance changes around doctrines and other avenues that concern the combat simulation. Additionally there’s the traditional slew of bug fixes that will be coming your way as we have done with past War Efforts as well.
I for one am excited to finally release this very large update and hope it will bring you some early holiday joy when you get around to giving it a spin.
Cheers!
/Batya
Usually, we would directly publish our patch notes on Reddit in tandem with the Paradox Forum, however the notes are literally too long to post here by quite a fair margin... So go check the Paradox Forum for the full list!!

Question underrated single player mods?
Looking for any of your guys’ favourite underrated mods, the more niche the better. I really enjoy Rise of Radicalism, Redux, and TFR but have already completed a lot of their stories and am trying to find some new ones.

Discussion How did you guys get into this game, what was your first playthrough like?
I played argentina to start, did pretty good, then threw myself into germany and i got whooped, i think i only started learning the game when i played a couple of USSR runs which i got kinda good at??
I mean im still a complete newbie, have no idea what to do on navy still 😭

Question With the nerfs to inter-war tanks and buffs to more modern tanks, will the meta shift from putting good guns on old hulls to using newer hulls?
The current meta for building tanks seems to be using old hulls with MGs and retrofitting them to stronger cannons later on. Are the buffs sufficiently meaningful to counteract this meta?
