I'm new to B&W, but I think I'll explore it often. Whole new ballgame seeking out shadows and textures on this film.

TLDR: flea market find rollei 35 meter was way off, but it made me a better photographer. Umax400, emergency Fuji400 from Walmart, and Gold 200. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Jordan Pond Loop, Asticou Azalea Garden.
Scored a Rollei 35 for $95 at a flea market a few weeks ago, seller said the light meter didnāt work. Wouldnāt you know it, popped a fresh weincell in and the meter needle perks right up! Iāve never used a fully manual camera before, only point and shoots and semi auto SLRs, but how hard can it be? And itās got the Schneider lens, should be cake.
Took off to Bar Harbor with the Rollei in my bag with my trusty Rebel G as my primary. I put the first roll in the Rebel, and it malfunctions. Pulls the leader all the way into the cassette. Second roll, third roll, same thing. No repair shops anywhere close either, itās dead.
I pull out the rollei, set it all up and start shooting using the built in light meter. Iām indoors shooting 400 iso and the needle is showing plenty of light. Like it has me shooting f16 @ 250 indoorsā¦. Iām cruising, this shit is easy. So I thought!
Wasnāt until the third day of the trip that I was reading a bit more about the zone focus markings and the sunny 16 method that it dawned on me, the light meter might actually just be straight up busted. Downloaded an iPhone light meter app and confirmed, meter was running super hot. The first 2 rolls of the trip did wind up coming out pitch blackā¦.
But since I didnāt have any other choice or equipment, I took it slow and learned how to manually meter the camera and use the markings on the lens to determine DoF in a way I would never with my digital cameras or my Canon. Wound up taking some absolutely gorgeous shots, I think.
Anywho, developed and scanned by me, Kodak C41 kit, a7cii, and valoi easy35 V2! Used Negpy to convert

I have been messing with slower shutter speeds lately and was really proud of this capture from my most recent roll of Portra400. To my film shooters who have more experience with slower shutter speeds, anything you notice that you might have done differently?

I used to be into shooting film on my AE-1 about 10 years back, but lately when I go on vacation I bring a disposable and have a great time⦠What are my options if I want something with more adjustments, but lightweight and pocket sized?
I see the Kodak and camp snap offerings, but those dont offer much for adjustability
