Horror Revival (神秘复苏, Mysterious Revival), written by the author Buddha's Flower Offering (佛前献花), is a landmark web novel on 起点中文网 (Qidian Chinese Website) that redefined the modern Chinese supernatural thriller and survival horror genre.

Core Premise & Opening Hook

• The Hook: The story opens with a chilling, iconic line: "My name is Yang Jian. By the time you read this, I’m already dead..."
• The Protagonist: Yang Jian is an ordinary high school student dragged into a nightmare when a supernatural event strikes his school. Rather than a classic righteous hero, he is pragmatic, cautious, and deeply self-preserving.
• The World: A modern-day reality where "Supernatural Qi / Ghosts" are waking up. Society is unequipped to deal with entities that defy conventional physics and logic.

The Three Golden Rules of the Supernatural

The novel is famous for establishing a rigid, almost scientific set of logical rules governing horror:

1. Ghosts cannot be killed (鬼无法被杀死). Physical attacks, bullets, or explosives do nothing to them.
2. Only ghosts can deal with ghosts (只有鬼能对付鬼). To fight a supernatural entity, a human has to "ride/control" (驭鬼) a ghost or use supernatural rules against another entity.
3. Ghosts have strict killing rules (鬼有杀人规律). Every entity operates on a specific logic, such as killing anyone who answers a knock, steps on a footprint, looks into a mirror, or turns off a light. Survival depends on figuring out and exploiting these blind spots.

I would really really **REALLY*\* like to find a cultivation donghua more like the Wuxia classics of old with characters that actually have a personality and importantly a MC that isn't just aura farming the entire show. I grew up loving Wuxia and still do, Wuxia stories are some of my favorites still. I was reading manhua/manhwa since the start and I am completely burnt out on these stories where every story arc just serves to glaze the MC and characters are cardboard cutouts. I know some of these have good plots and that's great I am only focused on the cast being interesting though. I think the closest thing I've found is:

"Shaonian Ge Xing" - Great Journey of Teenagers

It's got a main cast instead of just an MC with a dynamic that isn't just purely for comedy ergo there's actual relationships that change and form and everyone has their own thing they do. Even if it gets a bit plot armorish towards the end for the real MC I especially like how Lei Wujie gets the heroes journey he is intentionally seeking but he's not perfect for it. IE he's not bloodthirsty, not literally perfectly calculating, etc but he gets his own story moments + romance. An example of what I HATE is funnily enough in the Drama adaptation of the show it specifically gives 2 powerups to Lei Wujie that he didn't earn himself it's just because he's friends with Xiao Se the real MC.

I'm **NOT SAYING*\* I need an expansive main cast I'm just saying I would like something to pull me in besides just the animation & combat. I've tried Soul Land which is the closest due to the depth of the world but the amount of glazing he gets on top of the amount of OP bullshittery was too much for me to tolerate. I also do not mind cheat abilities I just really really want something where the MC has meaningful conversations with other people and it's not just all backhanded deals and then the other characters muse about how cool & smart the MC was afterwards.

I watched Pull Strings the drama adaptation of My Senior Brother Is Too Steady and I quite liked it at first since he has dynamics with other people within the sect + comedy even when he's not with them, but that faded pretty fast. Past the first couple arcs it's just an escalation of power(I do like the combat in this show more than most since he's a trickster very Narutoesque) but he basically avoids all interaction now. There's characters with 3 hours of screentime who I've confused for others because they legit have nothing going on. They just exist to look like the cool general. I know these stories tend to have fast pacing as well and that's perfectly fine a more normal story pacing would be cool but not necessary I am well aware these are Progression Fantasy. I guess are there any cultivation donghua where the source material **ISN'T*\* from a serialized/self-published web novel? I'm betting that would have a higher chance of being what I want.

I will say I have heard good things about A Record of Mortal's Journey To Immortality I just haven't started it yet even though it has so many seasons.

To the entire Swallowed Star production team,

First, an honest apology: I owe you an apology for trash-talking you mid-season. I was wrong, and I regret it. Now I'm using that same mouth to say something else entirely: you guys absolutely rock.

You've been cooking for weeks now with these epic battles, and the quality jump has been impossible to ignore. The animation, the pacing, the hype... it's clear how much effort and heart this team has poured into the show.

So thank you, genuinely, for pushing yourselves, for getting better, and for giving us the best version of what your team is capable of. This is what the fans always hoped to see, and it's been a joy to watch every week.

We love you, Team Swallowed Star. ❤️

Who is the person name that Wang Lin fights during the heavenly tribulation? We never got his name that I know of unless I missed it but I’m trying to find a picture online I can’t remember his name it was something like heavenly dao messenger or something but does this character have an actual name? He seems strong and I like his character design. I’m also confused with the power systems due to different translations changing the names

Mine

"Impossible"

"xxxx your time is up"

"My father will destroy you!”

“You dare?!”

Hello. Really enjoy the Renegade Immortal donghua. However, a part of me always feels that I’m missing out because of poor translations.

It’s been a while since I watched so I was wondering what the subs landscape looks like.

I know of Bonobo and Hall of C. Are there any others I should know about? Please which of these would you regard as most faithful at conveying what’s actually brewing said?

I cant find the real title of this, i saw this on youtube titled: He Slept 20,000 Years and Woke Up Level 100,000 kept it secret

I’ve been saving/marinating the highly popular series like RI, Against the Gods, Gu An, PW, Soul Land 2, Legend of Xianwu, Tales of Herding Gods, STH, ToFG, etc….

These are all the donghuas I’ve completed or up to date on just to give you an idea

BTTH(stopped at 208 to binge watch)*****
RMJI*****
Soul Land**
The Demon Hunters****
The Great Ruler****
Martial Universe****
Jade Dynasty(saving season 4 until its complete)**
Apotheosis***
Swallowed star***
The Swords(didn’t watch season 2)
Throne of seal

Short form??
Against the sky supreme(really liked it)****
Martial Master(this too)***
Supreme god emperor(on hold for now)
Ten thousand worlds(I dont know why but I really like this as well, probably in top 10)*****
Lingwu continent(AI ruined it)
Alchemy Supreme(watched until AI episodes, couldn’t go any further)
Peak of true martial arts
Super heroic spirit**

I’ve realized after some time that i like prefer to watch donghuas when they have lots of episodes like more than 300-400 for short and 200 for long form.
I’ve been keeping a lot of others in my to watch but im just waiting for them to have a lot of episodes so that i can get into them.

So, all in all, I don’t mind if they are short or long, recommend me some donghuas and ive read a lot of posts about recommendations and some series posts have negative reviews about shows like wonderland, spirit sword sovereign, sword domain, xuan emperor, yang Chen, revenge of ye feng and some others. Let me know if you think i should watch these or are these just a waste of time.

Also, i do have a few that im itching to watch like soul pets, myriad realms, Yi shi du Zun, alchemists rise, ancient god sovereign if you have watched these let me know if i should.

Looking forward to the recommendations! Thanks a lot!

PS the stars are how much i liked them!

I’m located in the USA. From what I understand, it’s essentially a Chinese YouTube? I learned about it by watching Link Click on crunchyroll.

I haven’t downloaded the app yet and the website doesn’t translate to English for me which prevents a whole lot of snooping. I did some blind clicking and noticed the 2 or 3 random anime I clicked were restricted in my region (America).

1 - Is the app fully translated to English?

2 - How big is their catalog for animated content? How does it compare to Crunchyroll?

3 - How much of their content is going to be restricted with me being in North America, US?

4 - What are your experiences with the app?

5 - Is the subscription worth it if I already pay for Crunchyroll?

What do people think of Hongjun? I think he is an interesting antagonist.

From my understanding he wants to be a true god that is omniscient and omnipresent, but is that a bad thing? In other stories there is already an established god or heaven’s will that is just accepted as right because it already exists. So is it necessarily wrong for him to try to become that, since cultivators seek immortality, becoming a god can be considered one step above.

He created the sin and merit and established the heavenly court, which is better than other gods who once achieving the pinnacle of strength do nothing with it. For example Tang San who became one of the strongest, but I don’t know what he even did with all that power.

It can be seen as bad that he wants to control the will of everyone, but when the MC is scheming, he is ultimately manipulating everyone into his will, like Erlang. Also it is true that beings left unchecked may lead to self-destruction like humans.

It is understandable that MC wants to save his friends, but it can also be seen he puts his friends and humans above the rest, even though this may cause the decline of other races. What if his girlfriend was from Jie sect? If the Ancestor only agreed with MC it would make him biased.

Main question — So i have just started to watch this donghua....and i am gonna be honest the subs in YouTube are not good ...so can anyone like dm a place where i can watch this with good subs....

1st question — cosmology and setting ...like where is the story taking place and all sorts (cause i am dumb)

2nd question — the cultivation realm in donghua seems to differ with the novel ...

Like idr seeing god transformation, virtual refining and taoist achieving in novel wiki ..

Found the sauce

So things that i remember are

MC was in his room eating and there were many female characters and also a ghost.

This is all I can remember about that trailer

And the world setting is set in the modern era.

Wow, they figured it out!

Too late tho haha...

7.42k clans and millions of cultivators after a single man 🤣💀.

Ridiculous number of fodders🫡
My guy Wang Lin is finally back to mass slaughtering cultivators....again🤣🤣

Give me moarrr!!
