To be extremely beautiful / handsome is as lonely as to be extremely ugly.

• Upvotes

I was once on a train, and a man was sitting opposite me. And it is safe to say that every celebrity you can think of as handsome would kneel before him. I wish I were exaggerating. And no, I wasn't looking at him through some sort of familiarity filter, since he was a total stranger. But I remember thinking, waht could have possibly produced someone like him and in what universe! Because there was simply nothing like that.

And instead of my ugly asss feeling envious or anything, I felt that I wouldn't want to be in his position either. Because, to me, that kind of beauty could be incredibly lonely. It is the sort where you would have to work hard to be noticed beyond your exterior. But then again, it's not as though I'll ever be in his shoes, so perhaps I'm just projecting my own perspective onto him.

But can you relate to this fellas?

Can You Ever Truly Forgive Cheating?

If someone you genuinely love cheats on you, but they tell you they still love you and regret what they did, would you give them another chance or walk away for good?

Do you believe cheating is a mistake that can be forgiven, or a choice that shows they never truly respected you?

I want to hear your honest thoughts. 🥀

At what arbitrary age do you go from being seen as a "precious child" that must be protected at all costs by society, to just another low-life, pos member of the herd; an afterthought, cannon fodder, a number?

• Upvotes

One day you are the apple of society's eye; you must be protected at all costs. And then, seemingly overnight, the value of your life depreciates drastically and you become a footnote, no longer seen at all, or worse, seen as a burden. But nothing has changed, just the day.

Why do people who don’t believe in God seem to understand humanity better than those who do?

I genuinely love atheists. There’s something beautiful about people who don’t need the promise of heaven or the threat of hell to be decent human beings.
People who question what they’ve been taught, challenge traditions, and aren’t afraid to admit they don’t have all the answers.

Meanwhile, some religious people spend their lives preaching love while judging everyone who doesn’t share their beliefs.

They’ll defend cruelty because it’s written in a holy book and call it morality.
I find it fascinating that the people constantly accused of lacking morals are often the ones questioning whether those morals are actually moral in the first place.

You don’t need religion to have compassion, empathy, or a conscience. And being religious doesn’t automatically make you a good person.

Is it normal to not really have friends?

I’m turning 27 this week and I’ve come to realize I don’t really have any friends. I have my husband, who I consider my best friend, but not really anyone else. If we do things it’s with his friends, and they’re always so kind and include me. I do have people I associate with who consider me a friend, but our friendship is pretty much all about them and it’s honestly quite draining. I find myself wanting friends, but I also don’t know if I have the patience or effort. Is this normal? Should I be putting more effort into my social life?

is there a right or wrong way to approach faith?

my parents had an interfaith marriage (hindu and christian), and i was mostly raised hindu. however, over the past two years, i’ve naturally felt drawn towards christianity. during a difficult phase of my life, spending time in a chapel brought me comfort, and i slowly started building a connection with jesus. watching the chosen also helped me understand the faith better, and in a way, christianity started feeling like home.
at the same time, i still feel connected to hinduism because of how i was raised. is it okay to have a relationship with jesus and follow christianity without being baptised or formally converting? is there a right or wrong way to approach faith? i’d love to hear your thoughts, especially if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Being deeply depressed, but not suffering because meditation

• Upvotes

Hello 👋 I am a very complicated person in a very interesting part of my life.

To make it easy, basically I suffer from chronic pain and from lifelong depressive episodes.

I have had intense periods of anhedonia where I could not taste tastes or smell smells, it was all rot.

I have had days unable to crawl out of bed spent trying to sleep and ideating you know what.

Over time I've started meditating daily and particularly I meditate on my pleasure and enjoyment in the present moment. I am very attached to anything that makes me feel good, so in meditation I intentionally let go of the parts of my experience that I feel make it worthwhile.

I experience extreme pain when I decide to stop running from the undesirable feelings, and I experience a deep freedom when I let the goodness in my life fall through my fingertips.

I see a complete structure in attachment, death, destruction, change, agony, bliss. But the only way for me to make peace with it is to detach from my feelings in a rather extreme way.

Am I just coping with depression and unresolved medical issues or am I freeing myself from something most people never become free of?

I feel as though the amount of freedom I can attain in meditation is greater than anything I can possibly encounter.

It makes me want to renunciate everything and live more as a monk. I don't have any real duties or purposes other than to myself.

I have already lost the things that could be worth attaching to. I don't have friends, I have never been able to form a long term relationship. I have no kids no job no pets no nothing just a family that doesn't need me.

It's so weird for me because if you look at my life it looks awful, but I feel genuinely calm. No constant chattering voice in my head, no pain in my back that forces me to do anything, just presence in pain.

I feel fine continuing like this until I die. I don't need anything else anymore. Drinking water when I'm dehydrated and eating food when my stomach screams in pain is more than enough for me.

I think prison would be a nice place, there is no freedom to take from me anyway.

Is this detachment freedom?
