Announcement Subreddit Update: Low-Effort, Computer-Generated Content, and Politics
Hello everyone, we’ve got a new set of rule changes that we're hoping will lead to clearer and fairer moderation on this subreddit.
Low-Effort Content
Rule 9 (Comment-Requesting Posts) will be consolidated into this rule.
A post may be considered low-effort if it falls into the following categories:
- Low creative, humorous, analytical, or informational value
- Generic screenshot of something mundane with an unrelated title
- “Kochi Oma” with an image of Kokichi.
- Posts with low potential to generate interesting discussion
- “I love Miu!” with nothing else
- “Give me a character and I’ll give them a 1-10 rating”
- Extremely generic, easily spammable prompts
- “What is he looking at?” (With an image)
- “How would these two interact?”
- “Say something nice about Chihiro”
If that last point seems vague, a general rule of thumb would be “Is the post generic enough that you can swap out the image/character with any other image/character, and spam it?”
Posts that fall into these categories may be removed under this rule.
Mod discretion will be used when necessary.
Question: Why has this rule changed?
One of the general “guidelines” that the modteam has historically tried to follow is that all rules must be 100% objective, with no room for interpretation. There must be no grey areas in the rules; if something caused a foreseeable edge case, ambiguity, or potential mistake, the other mods would immediately veto the idea on the grounds that it was impossible to enforce.
The original intent for this style of modding was for people to be able to read the rules and know with 100% certainty what is/isn’t allowed, and for the mods to know with certainty what should/shouldn’t be removed. At the start, it accomplished this, but over time, it started doing the opposite with rules becoming extremely hyperspecific with really awkward criteria to a point where it was impossible to memorize. In addition, the rule would end up being changed every 2-3 months to cover loopholes that ended up being abused.
Now, with most of the older mods cycling through with newer mods taking their place, we’re more willing to add in some level of subjectivity if it makes rules easier to understand.
We’ve decided that something as inherently subjective as Low-Effort is impossible to define with 100% objectivity while still making sense. Our previous attempts were either too lax and allowed low-effort slopposts to leak through, or too strict with something that has tons of effort removed because it happened to fall under some weird, seemingly harmless criteria.
We’re hoping that adding some level of subjectivity to the rule will make more sense and cause less problems.
Computer-Generated Content
Content that is directly generated by computers is not allowed on r/danganronpa. This includes:
- AI-generated images
- Screenshots of chatbot responses
- Randomizers such as Hunger Games Simulator and Wheel Decides their Fate
Question: Why has this rule changed?
The rule has not changed, it’s simply being separated into its own rule. The actual application of the rule is the same.
The reason behind separating this into its own rule is for clarification purposes. With Low-Effort Content being more subjective, we just want to make it clearer if a post is removed because we thought it was a normal low effort post, versus a post being removed because we believe some element of it was AI-generated.
Politics
This rule will replace our “Banned Topics” rule.
Do not post about real-world politics that are unrelated to Danganronpa.
Political topics that are directly related to Danganronpa are allowed. For example, the following topics would be allowed on r/Danganronpa:
- Tariffs increase the price of 2x2 physical copies
- Discussion on a political event in the canon Danganronpa story
- Kodaka runs for government
Posts that are not inherently political but are clearly intended to reference a certain political event (such as a post about a sniper on a roof the day after an assassination) will also be removed.
Mod discretion will be used to determine what is considered “political” if necessary.
Question: Why has this rule changed?
As mentioned before, the older iteration of the modteam has historically been against any type of subjectivity or ambiguity. A blanket politics ban was originally deemed “too subjective”, which is why the Banned Topics was a bullet point list of topics that we do not allow.
With the current state of politics in the world, and us willing to add more mod discretion level rules, we’ve decided that it’s impossible to keep updating a bullet-point list, and replacing it with a general Politics ban would be the healthiest thing for the subreddit.
Tierlists
We polled the subreddit last time and the majority of respondents supported our current implementation of the tier list rule.
We will be keeping the 5-sentence mandatory explanation for “Favorite X” tier lists/subjective ranking posts.
Please leave any questions or concerns in the comments.

Announcement Spoiler Update - 2x2 Analysis
With the new Danganronpa 2x2 trailer, there are some potential spoilers if you heavily analyze some of the shots that they have released.
For instance,
- "This trial footage talks about X character, meaning they survive up until that point."
- "If you zoom into the background, you can see a death portrait, meaning this character is dead."
You are allowed to discuss these implications, but you must spoiler tag it, and indicate that it is a potential 2x2 spoiler based on released footage.
Example:
2x2 AnalysisDumbledore kills Miu Iruma
It does not need to follow this exact format, but it must be clear what the intention is.
Speculation that does not revolve around death order does not need a special spoiler tag.

Fanart I just learned Chihiro & Spongebob share a Japanese voice actor now, so I drew this Spoiler
galleryKoki Miyata is now the Japanese voice of Spongebob (via his previous Japanese VAs tragically passing away).
This came out quicker than expected. Probably because I made this for a video project I was excited about.

Discussion Am I the only one who thinks the male/female symbols in Mikan's intro aren't even that mysterious?
I know this isn't an especially popular or frequent topic but every once in a while I'll see somebody else ask "Why does Mikan have male/female symbols in her intro?" and none of the replies ever mention the fact male/female symbols are used in several Japanese games, including other parts of Danganronpa 2 (the male cylinder and the female flask) to denote sex and general sexuality. Considering Mikan is one of the most overtly sexual characters in the Danganronpa 2, I'd wager that's what they're supposed to signify.
As for communicating "Mikan is bisexual" I'd say she probably is given the way she acts around Hajime and her devotion towards Junko, but I can't imagine a graphic designer or Kodaka thinking "She swings both ways so we'll put the male/female symbols in her intro to say that and then communicate nothing else about her character".

2x2 Speculation (DR2 Spoilers) I drew how I think Sakutaro looks like without the yellow jacket Spoiler
Sakutaro is the only character in 2x2 to wear whopping THREE layers of clothing (probably to not catch a cold/seasickness lol), and it made me wonder what IS he really wearing, and made a sprite edit of what I think it is.
I doubt it is ACTUALLY a bathrobe, but it is the closest irl equivalent I could find reference pictures for, others being gray dresses or shirts, but they're didn't feel right (a long gray shirt is more likely to be the case?). Alsothe colors are quite similar to the hospital robes from chapter 3. I doubt he is even able to catch the Despair Disease, if he's AI it probably would crash his avatar or whole simulation, but it is an interesting connection nonetheless.
Gave him a black t-shirt because if you look closely above the shorts and that gray line on the original sprite you can see a bit of black. That gray line can potentially be a metal belt part of the shorts, but then the shorts would be too tall imo. Well, this all is a speculation anyway, just my two by two cents :P
Really excited to play the new slayhem mode and learn in how Sakutaro even makes any sense to appear in the plot lol.

Let me know what you thinkkkk (yes these are all my voice)
I think i could've done hiyoko a little higher but whatever man!! ngl one thing I really like to do when I play Danganronpa is read the dialogue out loud and do the little voices for the characters. My favourites to do are Angie, Hiyoko, Himiko, Toko, and Miu
If this gets popular I may do a series

Discussion Something about Maki that I don't see mentioned very often Spoiler
galleryIt's a common sentiment in the fandom that Maki doesn't face enough consequences for trying to kill everyone during the 5th chapter's trial. I don't really agree, as the killing game itself is always enemy n°1 in Danganronpa, and it would be strange for the cast to turn on her in the fifth chapter, considering she originally had good intentions and was doing what basically anyone would do as a blackened.
But there's something else in her favor that I don't see brought up a lot : during the 5th trial, when Shuichi brings up the idea that Kaito might be the blackened, she rejects the idea entirely, asserting that she's the killer, with the section culminating in the Argument Armament.
At this point, Shuichi's internal dialogue leads the player to think that Maki is trying to protect Kaito, meaning she's willing to sacrifice everyone, including herself, to save Kaito (which is essentially the same dilemma Shuichi faced in chapter 1). Right after the vote though, it's revealed that Maki honestly believed that Kaito would never kill anyone, and Shuichi second-guesses his previous idea.
While from a gameplay perspective, Maki is a bit of a hindrance at this point in the trial, as it's clear that Kaito killed Kokichi, from her perspective, she genuinely believes that there's no way Kaito could be the culprit. Meaning the entire Argument Armament, for Maki, is actually her arguing for them to kill her so they can live.
Shuichi in chapter 1 also behaves similarly until Kaede pushes him to reveal the truth (though he's less overtly abrasive due to their differences in personality), but gets significantly more grace from the fandom. I think that his more agreeable personality plays a part in it, but I think there's also him being a man and his feelings for Kaede feeling more relatable to the straight male side of the fandom, who tend to dislike Maki a bit more, than Maki's feelings for Kaito (which there isn't anything inherently wrong with).
All in all, I think Maki isn't a perfect character, but she probably deserves a less harsh treatment than she gets from the fandom. The entire setup of the fifth trial serving both as a way to show the characters representing truth and lies working together for the greater good, and also as a way to get Maki to break free from her lifelong patterns as an assassin (willing to sacrifice everyone for herself -> willing to sacrifice herself for everyone), much like Shuichi broke free of his own talent's influence on him, all while Shuichi gets to use his growth to help her, who explicitly mirrors him at the start of the game, is part of why it's so brilliant and is, imo, the most tightly written DR chapter.

Discussion What do you think is in Kyoko's Suitcase?

Kyoko doesn't really use any tools throughout the franchise to do her detective work. Even in Danganronpa Kirigiri this is the only time she had the case afaik. Which begs the question, what was in it that it was worth carrying such a cumbersome case through the snow?
I'm pretty sure we never find out and the only thing she ever explicitly pulls out of it is a notepad.
What do you think it could've been?
