Announcement Subreddit Update: Low-Effort, Computer-Generated Content, and Politics

Hello everyone, we’ve got a new set of rule changes that we're hoping will lead to clearer and fairer moderation on this subreddit.

Low-Effort Content

Rule 9 (Comment-Requesting Posts) will be consolidated into this rule.

A post may be considered low-effort if it falls into the following categories:

  • Low creative, humorous, analytical, or informational value
    • Generic screenshot of something mundane with an unrelated title
    • “Kochi Oma” with an image of Kokichi.
  • Posts with low potential to generate interesting discussion
    • “I love Miu!” with nothing else
    • “Give me a character and I’ll give them a 1-10 rating”
  • Extremely generic, easily spammable prompts
    • “What is he looking at?” (With an image)
    • “How would these two interact?”
    • “Say something nice about Chihiro”

If that last point seems vague, a general rule of thumb would be “Is the post generic enough that you can swap out the image/character with any other image/character, and spam it?”

Posts that fall into these categories may be removed under this rule.

Mod discretion will be used when necessary.

Question: Why has this rule changed?

One of the general “guidelines” that the modteam has historically tried to follow is that all rules must be 100% objective, with no room for interpretation. There must be no grey areas in the rules; if something caused a foreseeable edge case, ambiguity, or potential mistake, the other mods would immediately veto the idea on the grounds that it was impossible to enforce.

The original intent for this style of modding was for people to be able to read the rules and know with 100% certainty what is/isn’t allowed, and for the mods to know with certainty what should/shouldn’t be removed. At the start, it accomplished this, but over time, it started doing the opposite with rules becoming extremely hyperspecific with really awkward criteria to a point where it was impossible to memorize. In addition, the rule would end up being changed every 2-3 months to cover loopholes that ended up being abused.

Now, with most of the older mods cycling through with newer mods taking their place, we’re more willing to add in some level of subjectivity if it makes rules easier to understand.

We’ve decided that something as inherently subjective as Low-Effort is impossible to define with 100% objectivity while still making sense. Our previous attempts were either too lax and allowed low-effort slopposts to leak through, or too strict with something that has tons of effort removed because it happened to fall under some weird, seemingly harmless criteria.

We’re hoping that adding some level of subjectivity to the rule will make more sense and cause less problems.

Computer-Generated Content

Content that is directly generated by computers is not allowed on r/danganronpa. This includes:

  • AI-generated images
  • Screenshots of chatbot responses
  • Randomizers such as Hunger Games Simulator and Wheel Decides their Fate

Question: Why has this rule changed?

The rule has not changed, it’s simply being separated into its own rule. The actual application of the rule is the same.

The reason behind separating this into its own rule is for clarification purposes. With Low-Effort Content being more subjective, we just want to make it clearer if a post is removed because we thought it was a normal low effort post, versus a post being removed because we believe some element of it was AI-generated.

Politics

This rule will replace our “Banned Topics” rule.

Do not post about real-world politics that are unrelated to Danganronpa.

Political topics that are directly related to Danganronpa are allowed. For example, the following topics would be allowed on r/Danganronpa:

  • Tariffs increase the price of 2x2 physical copies
  • Discussion on a political event in the canon Danganronpa story
  • Kodaka runs for government

Posts that are not inherently political but are clearly intended to reference a certain political event (such as a post about a sniper on a roof the day after an assassination) will also be removed.

Mod discretion will be used to determine what is considered “political” if necessary.

Question: Why has this rule changed?

As mentioned before, the older iteration of the modteam has historically been against any type of subjectivity or ambiguity. A blanket politics ban was originally deemed “too subjective”, which is why the Banned Topics was a bullet point list of topics that we do not allow.

With the current state of politics in the world, and us willing to add more mod discretion level rules, we’ve decided that it’s impossible to keep updating a bullet-point list, and replacing it with a general Politics ban would be the healthiest thing for the subreddit.

Tierlists

We polled the subreddit last time and the majority of respondents supported our current implementation of the tier list rule.

We will be keeping the 5-sentence mandatory explanation for “Favorite X” tier lists/subjective ranking posts.

Please leave any questions or concerns in the comments.

Announcement Spoiler Update - 2x2 Analysis

With the new Danganronpa 2x2 trailer, there are some potential spoilers if you heavily analyze some of the shots that they have released.

For instance,

  • "This trial footage talks about X character, meaning they survive up until that point."
  • "If you zoom into the background, you can see a death portrait, meaning this character is dead."

You are allowed to discuss these implications, but you must spoiler tag it, and indicate that it is a potential 2x2 spoiler based on released footage.

Example:

2x2 AnalysisDumbledore kills Miu Iruma

It does not need to follow this exact format, but it must be clear what the intention is.

Speculation that does not revolve around death order does not need a special spoiler tag.

Fanart Danganronpa V3 Girl's Raincoats (OC)

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hello! So, I am in a Danganronpa V3 roleplay server, and an event has just occurred where the entire Academy has fallen into a week-long rain storm. Characters have been supplied with custom raincoats to wear for this period by their captors. I decided to draw what I feel like the 4 characters I play would have been given to wear. So here they are!

Explanations:

Kaede

Kept her nice and simple. Her old school logo (which in this is RP she doesn't know what that symbol means), the same music note motif as her skirt, and a piano trim on the bottom and wrists. Also I decided to make it short but also JUST long enough to where it covers her already short skirt so it looks like she's not wearing anything underneath—perfect for people to make fun of her for.

Maki

My favorite of the 4. Designed after Little Red Riding Hood, considering that's roleplay relevant to her story. I decided to also give her some devil horns on the hood as well as blood splatter patterns in several places on the outfit to hint at her talent, which she hasn't currently revealed, she is posing as the SHSL Markswoman (as it's more convincing than a SHSL Child Caregiver)

Miu

...It's see through, it's got a boob window, it's poofy with a skirt, it's short. That's about it. Doesn't reflect her talent aside from the fact she's showing off I suppose, I just thought it'd be funny and something these captors DEFINITELY would do given the fact they've supplied her with garter belts.

Tsumugi

Plain old Tsumugi gets a basic blue raincoat...but with a hood inspired by Monokuma, and a two-toned design too. ... Basically my first idea was literally making her cosplay a raincoat wearing character. Six from Little Nightmares came to mind, but...yellow doesn't work. Same with John Danganronpa (Sakutaro Higashi), but she wouldn't know who that is, and the only RAINCODE character who wears a proper "raincoat" is Kurumi (not Kirumi) and...I felt like I just wanted to keep to the plainness but with a hint of Despair.

Hope you like them!

DR1 Cast felt that they were done disservice i'm not hating on the outfit they are good but something i felt/realized that the style that they went for is less grand festival but more like casual festival like going into a fancy restaurant or fancy cruise ship but not like a grand festival anniversary where in 10th everyone was glamarous and flashy so i tried rating them on this vibe but DR1 cast really didn't have that big of impression it's 50/50 but DR2 on the other hand wait for it but part 2 is goated

2x2 Speculation (Full Series Spoilers) Sakutaro Higashi might be the protagonist of 2x2 Spoiler

Post image
14 Upvotes

Before this, I posted a theory on my other account that Sakutaro would be the antagonist in 2x2, and you can see it here.

I have a new theory, perhaps since each new game has a new protagonist, 2x2, as the fourth game, will not be an exception and Sakutaro Higashi will appear in it. Of course, this collapses when you can say that each game had a new cast, but this game has the old cast from the second game, but I have more to it.

Actually, by Sakutaro being the new protagonist, I don't mean he'll be the protagonist from the beginning to the end. But I think it's possible that at some point in the game we'll play as him, and maybe even at the class trials. Maybe we'll play the first chapter as Hajime and all subsequent chapters as Sakutaro, maybe we'll play 4 chapters as Hajime and the last two as Sakutaro, it could be done in different ways.

And it's not necessary that Hajime will die, they already did that in V3, so they can do it in 2x2 in the drastically different way. For example, Hajime could disappear from the program via a bug, or be replaced by another student. Or he might be alive and gay, but the perspective would simply switch to Sakutaro.

A new protagonist could open up a lot of new dynamics and perspectives for the game, although I'm more inclined to think that Sakutaro will be the antagonist, but the protagonist theory also holds place.

Koki Miyata is now the Japanese voice of Spongebob (via his previous Japanese VAs tragically passing away).

This came out quicker than expected. Probably because I made this for a video project I was excited about.

Discussion Am I the only one who thinks the male/female symbols in Mikan's intro aren't even that mysterious?

I know this isn't an especially popular or frequent topic but every once in a while I'll see somebody else ask "Why does Mikan have male/female symbols in her intro?" and none of the replies ever mention the fact male/female symbols are used in several Japanese games, including other parts of Danganronpa 2 (the male cylinder and the female flask) to denote sex and general sexuality. Considering Mikan is one of the most overtly sexual characters in the Danganronpa 2, I'd wager that's what they're supposed to signify.

As for communicating "Mikan is bisexual" I'd say she probably is given the way she acts around Hajime and her devotion towards Junko, but I can't imagine a graphic designer or Kodaka thinking "She swings both ways so we'll put the male/female symbols in her intro to say that and then communicate nothing else about her character".

2x2 Speculation (DR2 Spoilers) I hope they add something new to rebbutals in 2x2 Spoiler

I hope that they could be a possiblity of refuting a dual rebutall

E.g both charactera are denying against somethings being true like gundham and sonia or fuyuhiko and peko

And them doing a rebbutal to togheter saying some matching phrase that match boths their personalities.

E.g sonia and gundham rebuting togheter with some chunibiyo phrase

Celeste had the personality but the third trial made her look like a joke and in a way that didn't at all feel intentional to me. You'd think all eyes of suspicion would be immediately cast upon her with how she tried to bullshit her way to the vote.

When I first started V3, I thought Himiko would be the most boring filler of a character ever. Then, her third trial happened and I couldn't have been happier to be wrong. Her arc was fantastic.

Discussion Breezly's reaction to V3's ending

So I have been watching the youtuber Breezly return to Dangaronpa after UDG. And I want to know how do you think he would react to the ending of V3. I mean finding out that everything was a game show. Would definitely put him over the edge, i do love his reactions. He probably would say this is why he stop playing the game for so long? What do other people think his reaction might be?
