Is mental health therapy available for service members?

I’ve been thinking about going to therapy lately but I’m not too familiar with our mental health benefits yet.

I was gonna go the paid route since I’ve been seeing a bunch of influencers get sponsored by this particular mental health therapy. But before I do that, I figured I try the resources available to us first.

Thanks for your time.

Anybody here cut like 40 pounds in 3 months? While still being strong and lean?

I’m not in the military. I’m a Paramedic trying to become a firefighter/paramedic but I thought yall would be the perfect people to ask. I used to be a college football player, but after becoming a paramedic and getting married I put on some extra weight lol.

I was just wondering if you guys had any tips for fast weight loss while still maintaining a lean body and good cardio/strength.

23F with a degree trying to figure out the best route to IPAP

I’m 23F and planning on joining the Army (woohoo). I already have my bachelor’s degree, and my long-term goal is to become a PA through IPAP. My other goals include paying off my student debt, building a stable financial future, and doing something for myself that forces me to get out of my comfort zone since life feels extremely stagnant.

My recruiter told me it would be easier to enlist as an E-4, go through basic, and submit an officer packet once I’m in, claiming it’s “a more guaranteed and faster route to becoming an officer.” But other people have told me I should apply for OCS as a civilian instead of enlisting when I already have a degree.

I’m also trying to figure out whether active duty, the Reserve, or the National Guard would make the most sense for IPAP, and how each option affects eligibility, timelines, and service obligations. I’m scheduled to go to MEPS in mid-November, so everything is starting to feel pretty real lol.

For anyone with experience in the Army, OCS, or IPAP:
- Is enlisting first actually a more reliable way to commission, or was what my recruiter said kinda misleading?
- Is it realistic to enlist and apply for OCS later, or is the process more tedious and competitive than it sounds?
- Would active duty, the Reserve, or the National Guard be worth considering when trying to get a spot in IPAP?

I’m not opposed to enlisting, but I don’t want to sign a contract assuming I’ll commission or get into IPAP when neither is guaranteed. I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve actually gone through these processes, so please share any opinions or experiences you have! Thank you!!

A day in the life of 68W? + advice needed

i am currently in the process of enlisting into the national guard but thinking about going active, i have gone through MEPS and im only waiting on a eye consult that I have to do next week.

I scored a 82 on the ASVAB and I am hyper fixated on only 2 MOSs really, 11B and 68W

Could a 68W in NG and/or Active describe what a day/drill weekend in their unit looks like for them?

  • needing some advice i recently spoke to a active duty recruiter and things i would like to do in the army that NG doesnt really offer.

He had stated that he could get me into airborne school and get me choice of duty station in fort campbell with the 101st, where he had also stated that, they would make be go to air assault school. (someone fact check me on this)

now here’s where my dilema begins:

NG - I get to stay with my family, go once a month, and get decent benefits

Active - Far from family, but i get great benefits and get to do things i would actually enjoy

i would just like to see if anyone had any opinions on whether NG or Active is the way to go, or if someone who has been in the same position could help me out here.

not sure if i missed anything but if you have anymore questions feel free to ask me

sorry if i sound like a bitch, i just want to be educated and informed on things before i proceed forward.

Why is the USO the only place I can use microsoft websites

As a new team leader, I keep getting nagged for not using the right counseling forms. If I'm not using the old 4856, I have to go to the USO to use adobe and open adobe files. Same goes for PowerPoint, Word, and other similar sites. I've tried doing it in the platoon office like they want, but it always wants me to try and pay for it or tells me I need to talk to an admin so I just have leave to the uso anyway.

Is there some weird army thing I'm doing wrong on these computers or is it just completely out of my hands.

Two number 45s, one with extra cheese.

09M prep course?

Hi everyone. My brother scored a 28 on his ASVAB and is going to be entering the 09m Future Soldier Prep Course in a few weeks. Had a couple questions I’m hoping someone can answer.
1. Is it still at Fort Jackson SC?
2. Is he only eligible for certain MOS’s once he increases his score? Or is it based on what he increases his score too?
3. Does he head right to basic after 09M or will he come home to wait on a date for basic?
4. Is he still eligible for a potential bonus if he goes through 09M?

Please someone give me a good duty station I am at fort hood with HORRIBLE NCOs more E-5s then 6 or 7s but still you have SLs falling out of runs people doing drugs selling drugs, nothing happens you just sit there everyday I thought as a 11B I’d be so highspeed doing highspeed shit unlike the “pogs” and now I think they do more highspeed stuff then us. I wanna be in the army I love it but this is not what I expected I don’t want this first base to determine the whole army it’s self, can anyone please direct me to a better duty station before I just decide to leave

Sent to rotation while separation is initiated?

I’m mostly just trying to see if this is even a thing? My understanding was once a commander initiates separation that you become non deployable.

I started separation back in may and was told up until very recently I would not be going. I was now informed that despite me still being flagged for separation (I just checked prior to making this post) my paternity leave would be cut short and I’d still go despite not sending any of my stuff there and having 6 different things that make me non deployable. I am also phase phase 1 complete and phase 2 medical complete

I already did one rotation and loved it, that’s not the issue. My son is 6 weeks old and me and my wife agreed it would be better for me to just get out so that I don’t miss the first year of his life.

Am I mistaken and they really are able to just send me? Or should I try contacting ig?

NCO corps

What has happened to the NCO CORP? Over the last 7 years I've watched:

A training NCO admit he doesn't know why he was put into the position, then proceeded to teach outdated training despite being shown a new material was released.

A senior NCO flat out refuse a deployment, cheat on a the pre deployment testing and then lie his way through SRP.

A second Senior NCO throw a full faced production, Including tears at a junior soldiers funeral, then turn around and call the soldier a piece of shit and laugh at how the soldier died

A career NCO (5forlife) refuse to help out a junior soldier when his ride fell through, then recommended NJP while laughing.

Lastly, another NCO refusing to speak to the 1sg on a soldiers defense over an SOP, IN WHICH THE SOLDIER WAS CORRECT IN FOLLOWING.

What happened to us being the :outstanding leadership: and not using grade or position for pleasure profit or personal safety? Have we become a joke?

Insert the 'are we the bad guys' meme here.

I'll take a double baconator, I'm giving up, might as well be happy.

Need advice following the death of a parent

Hello everyone, as the title suggests, I believe my CO made a dumb decision which indirectly lead to the death of my parent and I’m not sure what course of action, if any, I can take. I’m honestly not sure if I’m so overcome by grief and anger that I’m not thinking straight or if I genuinely have an edge to stand on here. I would really appreciate anyone taking the time to read this and provide their feedback. I apologize in advance for the long post.

In late 2024, I got a phone call from my mom’s caretaker (family friend) that she started eloping, meaning that she was leaving a safe environment undetected and wandering off, getting lost, running of of gas, and being found by paramedics in the early hours of the morning, an entire state away. He informed me that she had done it several times, and this was my first red flag that something was wrong with my mom. My mom and I live in different states.

In early 2025, whilst at NTC (preparing for a 2025 EUCOM rotation), I got another call, this time from my brother and SIL (who live a few blocks away from my mom and caretaker), that the caretaker had left my mom alone, and that somehow she fell down the stairs and broke her arm. They reported (and I saw pictures) that she ended up with two black eyes as well. Accusations were being thrown around that my mom was being physically abused by the caretaker. I was getting conflicting accounts by all parties as to what happened, and at the same time, my mom’s phone somehow got broken. The only person able to tell me what really happened was suffering with cognition issues and I was unable to get any real answers. With no way to contact her directly, and with opposing views on what really happened that day, I called the local police department to do a welfare check, and also filed a case for potential elderly abuse.

I reported all of this to my 1SG. My SIL tried to put a Red Cross message, but that was obviously denied because it wasn’t an emergency.

Well, in late 2025, I got another call, this time from my mom. She didn’t sound right. She was talking in incomplete sentences, talking about people that didn’t exist, laughing in a strange and unwarranted manner. I asked my caretaker what was going on with her and he said he didn’t know but that he had set an appointment a few months out with a neurologist to evaluate her. Well the appointment happened, and I was told by the caretaker that the doctor evaluating her said that she had the cognitive function of about a 6 year-old.

The problem is that the caretaker was financially in shambles. He was struggling to pay for their insurance and her insurance only covered so much because they had just moved states to be closer with my brother and SIL, and her insurance was in the process of transferring over.

I sat down with my 1SG and CO and explained the situation to them and pleaded with them that I felt like my mom wasn’t receiving the care that she needed, and that if I could have her come live with me, and pay for her monthly expenses, I could claim her as a dependent and put her under tricare so that I could guarantee that she get the care she needs. Additionally, I told them that every time I spoke with her on the phone, she sounded a little less coherent and that I could tell she was getting worse. She had a variety of other illnesses like diabetes and hypertension and the caretaker confided in me that there were several times that she could not take her medications because he could not afford to pay the copays until he got paid.

My mom, as cognitively impaired as she was, would insist that her caretaker hit her. I have her on a recorded line saying this. The caretaker and my brother and SIL do NOT get along with each other. The caretaker filed a power of attorney and my mom signed unknowingly because she had dementia for goodness sake, and my sibling filed several police reports for abuse, and elderly neglect. They were warring with each other and my mom was caught in the crossfire. I needed to get her out of there. All of this was explained to my command team.

I told them in very plain English that I was very worried that my mom would not make it through my deployment with her current care, and pleaded with them to let me sit this one out to sort out my family affairs. My CO looked me dead in my eyes and told me that the mission needed me more and that I absolutely had to go on this deployment. I asked for leave so that I could go see her for myself and check on her, and he denied me and said we were too close to the deployment date for that. He told me I’d need a medical emergency in order to get any leave approved. My brother and SIL tried to put in another Red Cross message, but was once again denied because it wasn’t a true emergency.

So on deployment I went. I listened over the phone as my mom got worse and worse, and there was nothing I could do. I kept promising that upon my arrival back stateside, I would take custody of her and finally monitor her care closely to make sure she was getting her medical needs looked after.

Well, in May of this year, only 2 months before the end of my deployment, she sadly she passed away. It was very sudden. I was on a convoy on my way to port when I got the call. I had to be turned around and sent back to FOS to await the next main body flight out so that I could sort out her funeral. That went well enough, but after months of grieving, I have started to feel very angry at my CO for not taking me seriously. I told him she wouldn’t make it because of her circumstances with her insurance and a financially unstable caretaker that was potentially abusive. And I was right. I told him everything that I am putting in this post, and still he decided to send me on this deployment, and now my mom is dead, may she rest in peace.

I don’t even know what to do. I don’t know if this is grounds to be taken somewhere, where that somewhere even is, or if I’m even justified in my righteous anger on behalf of my late mom. Please, if anyone can provide some insight, tell me I’m crazy, or tell me if there’s a chance I can get justice for my mom by having this man face the consequences of his (in my opinion) stupid decision, I would love to hear it.

If you read this far, thank you and just put the fries in the bag.

SSG in Germany — dependents delayed 140+ days, OHA uncertain, can I terminate my Housing Office-approved German lease if reassigned to BEQ?

My dependent have been on deferred travel for approximately 140 days and still haven't arrived. There's a strong possibility my orders will change to unaccompanied, meaning my family may not be joining me anytime soon, possibly for another 6+ months.

I recently signed a German lease through the Army Housing Office. I've only rented the property for about a month and haven't moved my belongings in yet.

My concern is potentially losing OHA and utilities allowance or being required to move into BEQ/government quarters. I cannot afford the rent out of pocket.

Paragraph 1 of my lease states:

"This contract may be terminated by the tenant giving the landlord a minimum of 15 days written notice of an unscheduled PCS, or a minimum of 30 days written notice when the tenant is moving into government or other economy quarters. The landlord's right to rental payments will cease the day following the tenant's vacating the premises."

My questions:

  1. If I'm assigned to BEQ due to amended unaccompanied orders, can I terminate my lease with 30 days' notice?
  2. Would the same clause apply if I voluntarily request BEQ due to financial hardship or loss of OHA?
  3. Can my landlord refuse termination even though this clause is in our signed agreement?
  4. Has anyone in Germany dealt with this situation or successfully used this clause?

Korea vs Okinawa Ville

Doing a map recon it seems like the Okinawa "ville" is more spread out and bases in Korea have restaurants, bars, and other businesses in a condensed walkable area right outside the gate. Is this the case, maybe there is a strip/walking street I am not finding? In Korea taxis line up on each side of the the gate to drive you to work or your apartment in town. For everything else you have easy access to a bus or train station so there is no need for a car. Any up-to-date information on Okinawa is helpful. I am trying to help someone make a decision. I've also hear and read some restaurants won't allow foreigners in and there can be a bad attitude towards Americans. Obviously right now would be a good example.

Upcoming REFRAD Advise

Currently a 1LT and I have made my mind up that I’ll be getting out of the Army after my initial contract which puts me at getting out in January of 2028, submitting my packet January 2027. I’ve done some research about the process(thanks to that CPT who broke down the entire process) and I feel well prepared, but looking for additional insight from those who have done it. The Army has been fun for the most part, just not something I’m interested in anymore.

• What would you do differently?
• Anything you did/didn’t do that you wish you had/hadn’t done?
• Any resources you’re willing to share are much appreciated.

Crane and rigging

• Upvotes

It’s been many years since I was a 91H doing recovery for a Stryker Brigade. Since getting out my eyes have been opened to the very sketchy things I did with cranes that didn’t seem sketchy at the time. I’m now a traveling crane and rigging instructor on the civilian side.

I often reflect on how much safer I could’ve been if I knew then what I know now. My unit never sent me to H8 despite my pleading.

I was wondering if any of you mechanics feel like you could benefit from some on-site training? My mobile crane class is 3 days, overhead crane class is one day and the rigging class is one day.

Not sure if this is allowed. Sorry mods if it isn’t. I just wanted to put out there to anyone else like me that’s living in the dark regarding safe crane knowledge that I’d love to come help.

PM me if you’re interested in training for your crew.

Split Ops with ACASP - Combat Medic

I am looking to take the NREMT-B exam soon in order to qualify for Medic ACASP, but is this something that is possible with a reserve split ops program?

I'm a Junior in high school currently. Since split ops is only separating BCT from AIT, and with ACASP some of AIT would be skipped, I don't see why it would be an issue? I'm not entirely sure so I just wanted to get some advice.

For reference, I'm in NY and I am willing to drive 5+ hours for any available reserve unit if it means I'm able to get an ACASP contract for 68W.

17E Electromagnetic Magnetic Warfare Specialist. How is Life in this MOS?

Someone who is a 17E, what's life like in this mos? How was AIT? How much of actually being smart do you need to be to do this properly? EL, SC and ST for a 17E is 105 for each category. You think my EL 115, SC 112 and ST109 is enough to keep up and understand this mos. I'm mechanically inclined but I think 17E isn't fully in the scope of my skill sets, where I be a shoe in. I'm prior army and thinking of reenlisting again. I was an 11C back then but don't want to do that again lol. I can use my old scores but now I'm "Needs of the Army"/critical mos so my choices are limited. I'd like 15T since my MM is 127, GT at 102(ehh) but it's not on the list provided. My recruiter says it's possible if at the time of signing a slot is open but until then it's not guaranteed lol.

OSUT XO

Hey guys. Looking for a little insight on day to day life as a OSUT XO. I am currently a PL in the 82nd on my second PL time. I showed up without a tab but kept my head up and drove on. I've received a lot of positive feedback from BN and peers. I've served now as a MPC PL and now line PL. I picked up my EIB and hope to have JM in the next couple months. The 14 hour days and being gone so much isn't really for me. I'd really like to spend more time focusing on family (I know, soft ass). I need to preface by saying I always intended on finishing my contract and returning to the career I left to join the army. With that being said, I volunteered for a JOBA and it looks like I'll be heading to OSUT. What does the day to day look like. I've read a lot about paperwork and running ranges, etc. I've heard it's pretty low key after being on the line. I've also heard the opposite. Any input ? Thanks!

Practicing for the qual

I shoot expert on the M4 qual every time (and the m17 for that matter) so have started to help with PMI for my unit. I want to take a small group of soldiers to a local gun range off post to help them practice some rifle marksmanship… I don’t believe in “pay to train” generally but it’s a small group all willing to spend some money on ammo to help learn marksmanship skills, so I’m cool with letting them run rounds through my rifle. We are in a high promotion point cutoff MOS so everyone is okay spending money to try and get these points.

Because the local ranges max out at 100 yards, and more realistically we’d be firing at a 25 yard indoor range, I was wondering if there would be a point in practicing with the old paper qualification targets. Trigger time will help with fundamentals but in terms of actually improving at the qualification range I’m not sure if the paper targets are a valid way to seek improvement. Just asking thoughts, or trying to see if there are other methods I’m not seeing to help improve range qual scores.

Idk what to do

Some context, I recently got an MRI done for my right knee and theres something seriously wrong with it and now I have a plethora of appointments to figure out what path I can take to fix this issue. I also have ankle problems and problems with my other knee, basically my lower body is shot atm. I got off a temporary profile last week and not even a whole week later my leadership wants me to do an aft and a 12 mile ruck on back to back days. I've gone through my PT and they recommended my PA to extend said profile as well as another person, I've done everything I could till this point and nothing has worked so far and still no extension. And word around the block is that our 1sgt is talking to our PA to find loopholes around profiles and changing people's appointments so they can take aft's and whatever tests so that 1sgt can look at his metrics and see green everywhere. I'm genuinely lost as to what to do at this point because I have no choice but to get on with it and take these events, fail them, and fuck up my knee even more.
