Movies Across all movies, what do you think is the dumbest scene?

Post image

In my personal opinion (and I’m not attacking anyone who likes The Last Jedi) it’s the “saving what we love” part from that movie. I’m sorry, but I think that scene has many issues:

1)It robbed Finn of a great sacrifice scene which would’ve completed his character arc.
2)It makes no sense logistically, as Rose somehow gets ahead of him despite having retreated previously, and also the First Order just lets them go back to the base without killing them.
3)The entire line is out of place, and the cut to the First Order laser blasting the base door is almost unintentionally comedic.

I know I’m beating a dead horse by criticising The Last Jedi in 2026, but still. This scene beats anything in the Prequels in terms of ridiculousness, and that’s saying something…

General Discussion Is Coruscant a practical and 'realistic' ecumenopolis?

Post image

I've been doing some worldbuilding recently, and I've been looking at how to portray city designs of the future.

My first thought was Coruscant considering how significant it is in the sci-fi film genre (or sci-fantasy, depending on how you view Star Wars).

Upon further analysis though, I've been questioning whether or not an ecumenopolis like this is practical and efficient compared to other designs in sci-fi. What do you think?

General Discussion Realistically, why the hell is a prisoner put into a place like this?

Post image

Thinking from the perspective of someone who isn’t on the Separatist’s side and if it wasn’t a trap, you’d think Palpatine would be out into a prison holding cell or kept behind ray shields, but for some reason the Chancellor was put into an observation room. Maybe the Separatists wanted to give their prisoner a view of what’s going on outside?

General Discussion The biggest plot hole of Star Wars in my opinion.

Dooku practically spilled the whole Sith plan to Kenobi on Geonosis, exposing Sidious in the process. Then, When Dooku killed Silman, proving he was the "Man named Tyranus", practically exposing him as the one who hired Jango Fett to be the blueprint for the Clone Army.

Putting all of this together, its not hard to see that: Dooku helped to fund and make the Clone Army, killed Dyas and was the direct apprentice of Sidious, which he exposed as the chancellor on Geonosis.

Then, is Kenobi just dumb? Did he just assume Dooku was making all of this up on the spot? You can't convince me that Obi-Wan Kenobi did not suspect in the slightest that Dooku was telling the truth. And why didn't he investigate the connection Dooku had with the Kaminoans? He had the chance to uncover Order 66 and Papatine in the process, while ending the was while at it!

And also, did no one ever ask why and who helped to fund the GAR? 200.000 clones just appear and everyone is alright with it? the whole goes way deeper than i thought...

General Discussion Is Darth Sidious actually a terrible Sith?

Post image
523 Upvotes

The common consensus is that Sidious is the greatest Sith ever, because he brought the Sith's secret plans to fruition after a thousand years, destroying the Jedi Order and conquering the galaxy.

But I think in the eyes of Darth Bane -- the man who created the Rule of Two -- he would also be considered a catastrophic failure, because his selfishness led to the destruction of the Sith.

Firstly, Palpatine's Empire only lasted for twenty years -- a meagre, insignificant period of time when compared to the generations of work that went into creating it.

Secondly, Palpatine failed to truly share power and knowledge with any of his apprentices as Bane desired, which led in part to Darth Vader returning to the Light Side and putting a dramatic end to the Rule of Two.

So -- if we take the long view of things -- is Sidious really a great Sith, or is he a terrible Sith? On the one hand, you can argue that he achieved the plan! On the other, that he ruined the plan.

General Discussion When I first watched this scene I was shocked by the speed and efficiency with which the Jedi now take out their opponents. A whole hangar of battle droids and they wipe them easily in about twenty seconds.

Audio, Music John Williams wasn't just scoring Star Wars, he was literally storytelling through leitmotifs before we even knew what was happening.

Once you actually start noticing all the little musical themes, you realize how insane his work is. Every character has their own vibe, and the way he mixes them together right when someone walks on screen, long before they even say a word, is just AWESOME!

Star Wars would literally be nothing without his music. What’s your absolute favorite motif or song from the whole saga?

I came across a cache of 8mm from animation students and was stunned to find this Star Wars fan film in a batch labeled fall 1977, making this one of the earliest Star Wars fan films. This was, I believe, made by an 8th grader in Mr. Moorhead's 8th grade class at Markham Jr. High in San Jose (in case anyone knows this person -- I'd love for them to get it.)

For Mace Windu, I'd like to see his own massive force jump ability, or a shatterpoint ability that kind of acts like Banshee's Sonar (if anyone plays Warframe) where weak points are temporarily shown on an enemy that if hit does more damage.

I also heard somewhere that Yarael Poof had the ability of pyrokinesis, which is something we never really see in universe. So giving him a short burst wave of fire would be neat, like a wider Boba flamethrower.

Oppo Ranciciss would be pretty neat if he was meant to be played more like a support character using his Battle Meditation to passively increase ally movement speed in a massive radius. Not sure how they'll animate or code this, but giving him combos or abilities utilizing his tail would also be cool

General Discussion Honestly I think writer Jeremy Barlow has a pretty reasonable take regarding Mace’s character and capabilities, with him even comparing Windu and Maul as two sides of the same coin.

Post image

“I try to get inside their heads and figure out,
“Who are these people?" and, "What kind of situations can they be in where they're having the most difficulty?" I don't know if you've read the Mace Windu Clone Wars digest (ages ago), but really, with that one, I approached it as--again, Mace Windu is kind of the flip side of Darth Maul; he's this guy who shows up and says, "the party's over" -- y'know, he's pretty much unstoppable.”

It also compliments what he said about believing Maul despite being weaker than Dooku and Vader still stands beside them through sheer force of will.

“His power isn’t on Vader’s level, true, or even on Count Dooku’s level — but that never stops him. He stands alongside the Sith Lords only by sheer force of will."

Their sheer willpower is what makes them such as threat even towards those who seem more powerful than them.

I think Mace vs Palpatine is a prime example of this. Now Mace Windu isn’t as strong as Yoda with even Mace himself admitting to it, however Windu unlike most Jedi is extremely passionate. Mace Windu is one of the few Jedi in Star Wars that can draw upon their passion with using the darkside, hence his creation of Vaapad. The further draws the parallels between Windu and Maul, where both use form 7 which involves aggression and unpredictability. Yet Windu is able to use that in service of the light.

In his fight with Palpatine, he’s drive and passion to save the republic proved stronger than Palpatine’s selfishness and quest for domination. Windu was fighting with everything to lose which pushed him to go well and beyond his limit.

It proves that passion isn’t inherently toxic and that passion towards selfless goals can be far stronger than selfish passion. You can say thats why Maul still lost to Sidious even when he fully embraced his passion towards vengeance. It’s an example of why the lightside will always be stronger than the dark, because selfless emotions are far stronger than selfish ones. That speaks true even in real life regardless being selfless vs being selfish.
