MODPOST šŸ‘®ā€ā™‚ļø Welcome to r/Rants

Hello everyone,

We want r/rants to remain a place where people can freely express their frustrations, vent, and speak their minds while still maintaining a safe and functional community.

Our goal is to allow as much free expression as possible within Reddit's limitations. With that in mind, the following rules apply:

  1. Follow Reddit's Terms of Service

All users must comply with Reddit's site-wide policies and Reddiquette. If Reddit doesn't allow it, neither can we.

  1. No Hate Speech

Hate speech against any person or group of people, for any reason, will not be tolerated.

This rule is very strictly enforced. Violators can expect heavy-handed moderator action, up to and including a permanent ban without appeal. There is zero tolerance for violations of this rule.

  1. No Self-Harm or Suicide Content

Posts or comments involving suicidal ideation or self-harm are not permitted.

If you need resources or help finding them, please reach out through Modmail and we will do our best to direct you to the appropriate resources.

  1. Money-Free Zone

Soliciting, crowdfunding, begging, or asking other users for money is prohibited.

  1. Maintain Civility

This is a ranting community. Strong opinions, frustration, disagreement, and colourful language are expected.

However, excessive insults, personal attacks, or direct hostility toward other users may be removed. Disagree with each other all you want, but don't turn discussions into personal fights.

  1. Banned Topics

Certain topics are not permitted in this subreddit. Attempts to post them may be removed without exception.

The list of banned topics may change from time to time, so please read the current rules and keep an eye out for moderator announcements.

  1. Moderator Discretion

Any post or comment may be removed at moderator discretion.

This does not mean your post was removed simply because a moderator disagreed with it or didn't like what you had to say. We want to allow as much open discussion and free expression as possible within Reddit's limitations.

This rule exists for content that may not necessarily violate another specific rule, but is excessively hostile, deliberately inflammatory, unproductive, disruptive, or otherwise counterproductive to the goals of r/rants.

Not every situation can be anticipated or covered by a written rule, so moderators may use their judgment when necessary to keep the community functional.

  1. Filter

Any post or comment flagged by Reddit's automated filters may be removed.

We don't love this either. However, given this community's history with Reddit takeovers, we have to take automated flags seriously and be strict about content that Reddit's systems identify as potentially violating site-wide policies.

Our priority is preventing another takeover and the potential shutdown of the community. That means there may be situations where content is removed even if we personally would have otherwise allowed it.

  1. No Spam or Low-Quality Posts

Posts should have some substance to them. Single-word posts, single-sentence posts, repetitive content, obvious spam, and other extremely low-effort submissions may be removed.

This is a place to rant, so rant! Give people something to read, respond to, or discuss. You don't need to write an essay, but put some effort in!

We believe these rules strike a reasonable balance between keeping r/rants open for authentic venting and free expression while ensuring the community remains safe, functional, and within Reddit's site-wide rules.

Thank you for your cooperation, and happy ranting!

Just A Rant My male classmates keep harassing me and I'm sick of it.

• Upvotes

What the title says. I'm a college student studying engineering, and there's this group of guys that sit at the back of the class and have started to bother me a lot. Every single day.

I go to class, sit down quietly, minding my own business (I and my best friend are massive introverts). And then these guys will sit behind us and start calling me names. Usually I tell them to shut up or threaten to report them to the authorities but it doesn't work because deep down they and I know damn well the authorities won't do shit.

Today in our linear algebra class he used a word which made me lose my temper and I shouted at him in front of the class. And get this, the professor started glaring at ME as if I had done something wrong. The words he was using were loud enough for her to hear, and she could have said something to him but chose to give me the death stare.

I literally was so angry I felt angry tears come out of my eyes but I composed myself because I didn't want to cry in front of everyone. Now I'm sitting in the library writing this and holding back tears, again.

For some more context, there was a conflict in our batch due to which my classmates do not like me and my best friend since one of our previous semesters. I was the class rep at the time and these guys had organised a mass bunk that I wasn't a part of since I didn't want to upset the professor who had high expectations from me (not everyone has the guts to participate in a mass bunk) and some girls of our class had a fight with my best friend. So they do not like us. So even if there was some sort of intervention, they'd prolly take those guys' side instead of ours.

I'm so upset rn I've started hating coming to college.

Not That Serious Reddits karma system is stupid as hell!

The whole reddit karma system just seems stupid to me. You want to ask a question on something specific? Oh great you found reddit, and you found a perfect forum to ask said question. You go make an account to ask that question? NO, YOU NEED KARMA.

So instead you look for similar communities. THERE ARE NONE THAT YOU CAN TALK IN, YOU NEED KARMA.

"great" you think, "just need to browse some interesting topics and leave comments that people like."

NO, I'M BORING. nobody is browsing comments in r/birdwatching and giving likes to people who think said bird looks cool. No car lover is civilised enough to understand that vans are the best vehicles. Great, now you're stuck, because you have no interest in random trending stuff, and you have no social skills to leave good comments that people like.

Oh and the idea of karma itself is stupid, it pushes you to become a people pleaser. Forget about your opinions, if you have them, you'll never gain a voice. You need to push whatever is trending right now. If you land into a world where people don't like pigeons? If you go against the grain and say pigeons are cute, you get cut out of 3 random reddits you look at, it forces an echo chamber into creation, and that's before the algorithm force feeds you. Why does reddit karma exist?! I get bots exist, but damn just make a captcha instead of making reddit useless to people who don't like to talk as often. I use reddit because I've got questions, and answers for questions, not because I want to talk about Donald trump making frog sounds, but I can't ask or answer questions because I have no KARMA

Mildly Annoyed Religious Homophobia/Transphobia

• Upvotes

Hey, I’ve been seeing a lot of religious and even people who pretend to be religious just to sh*t on the LGBTQIA+ community.
I am a religious transgender homosexual man, and I know for a fact that it’s not any kind of sin in any possible way. It is definitely not a necessary component of Christian religious beliefs.

The religious texts and manuscripts still used today were written in a very different historical context from the one we’re living now, and treating those norms as eternal laws just takes off the moral message of the word faith in itself. Actually, the concepts of sexual orientation and gender identity did not exist when those first texts were written, so the people saying that the Bible is strictly against homosexuality and transsexuality are actively lying just to get their point across. If you want to see for yourself the arguments that proclaimed religious individuals use, you’ll notice that all of those passages that ā€œcondemn LGBTQIA+ individualsā€ are most frequently misinterpreted and taken out of the historical context they really belong in.
Religion in itself is a framework for community and ethics. The people who turn their faith around just to promote exclusion of a specific group or community are just reflecting their interpretation, rather than trying to express the essence of what is the point of a religious belief.
True believers would say that religious practices are based on empathy, justice and the defense of those who are marginalised, and that directly opposes the bigotry some are associating religion with.

Knowing this allows all of us (religious or not) to see that prejudice against others is not inherent to spirituality nor religion, it is just a reflection of human nature and rigidity, ultimately because genuine faith is rooted in love, compassion and dignity.

Relationship/Dating What is the average body count of Handsome playboys/Chads by age 30

• Upvotes

Men always discuss women's body count, but not the men who are hook up Kings.

Most men aren't aware how forthcoming women are when they show their interest towards a man.

I think it is always women who drop subtle hints at the man they like. Most men never get that. It is quite frustrating for most men, but that's just the way it is.

The whole pick up artist industry thrives on fooling men. If a man is below 6 feet and doesn't have the face, he will have a very hard time in todays dating scene.

I personally never judge men and never shame them if they don't get women. The traditional Christian values of getting married, having integrity and hard work is obsolete. At least in the current scenario. A man can afford to be an absolute jerk, as long as he is tall and handsome.

T.V/Social Media šŸ–„ My bf said that ai will take my job

• Upvotes

I (21f) am in my 3rd year studying television and my bf (19m) is in his 2nd year studying astrophysics. Despite him studying this, he has always wanted to make films. I’ve supported him with this ever since he had mentioned it. I have also told him that if he needs any help with anything then he can always come to me for guidance since I have a lot of experience in that area.

Last night he got home and told me that he had made a film. I was excited to see and when he showed me, the scenes were filmed in Japan. My bf has never been to Japan and it’s been on his bucket list for years, and he said that he had made the film himself using ai. He showed me the paragraphs he wrote for every single scene and said that he directed the whole thing. As someone who is planning to work in the film industry, ai is seen as a threat to workers and people’s creativity. I’m not going to sit here and say that I have never used ai, I have. However in my opinion ai should only be used as a last resort tool and to not overtake the whole production process, as what my boyfriend had done.

I told him that he has the creativity for it, but advised him not to use ai next time. I reminded him that if he ever wants to make a film or needs help, to ask me since I have my own film camera and as I have mentioned above, have experience. He got a bit defensive and kept mentioning that ai was better, cheaper (despite him paying Ā£80 to ā€˜create’ those scenes), and that my industry will use it more in the future.

I personally think that ai can be useful, as i said as a last resort tool. However that’s only for the media industry/personal use. I think that with proper ai development it can be good in science, diagnostics etc. I had told him this, and had also mentioned that ai is a growing threat to people’s jobs and careers and to think of how many camera operators, production assistants, editors etc would be out of jobs if ai were to be used more in the future.

That’s when he told me that I can work in another industry if ai takes over mine. I got really frustrated because in my opinion that isn’t what should happen at all. I’ve been studying to work in the industry for years and it’s something that I have been passionate about since I was young. So what’s the point of even studying/continuing my course and working in an industry that isn’t relevant to my course? We went back and forth about it and eventually I just dropped it because I hate arguing.

After a few hours I had calmed down and I approached him about it again, this time more calmer. I reminded him about how human creativity is a gift and we must embrace it. I told him to be more patient with his dreams and to build more experience with working with film cameras, editing, and even advised him on some internships, work experience, online classes he could take, how you can easily make a film with a small budget, and understanding the importance with the different roles in film. I had then asked him what he wanted to do after he graduated and he said that he wanted to work with Ai engineering. I just agreed to disagreed because I didn’t want to go back and forth with him and I also hate arguing with people in general.

The thing is that he DOES have the creativity and ambition for film. Although he put all the notes on his phone for each specific scene into ai, they were extremely detailed so I do know that he has an eye for detail which is a really good skill in film. However I do feel like he could better improve these skills but instead he’s just going to ai.

As I have said, I think ai can be useful for the science department and much more, but media is not one of those industries. I understand that me and my bf have different opinions about it due to what we are studying and our separate upbringing (I grew up in Scotland, he grew up in China) so I do understand that we have different opinions about it. I know that we agreed to disagreed about it but I feel like there is something more that I should mention, something more that I should do. Is there anything that I can do?

Full Meltdown Reddit is a literal mindfuck

I’m going to sound psychotic, but, Reddit is a literal mindfuck.

I’m done, to say the least, just done.

I don’t get, nor understand, what kind of sick and twisted joy people get on here from bullying other users. In fact, it’s not even bullying. This shit is straight up torment, and then they like gaslight you into believing you’re the one in the wrong when you try to stand up for yourself.

This is beyond me!! I’m an internet veteran, been on the internet ever since like 2012, so I get it, there’s hostile people out there, no matter where you go there’s always that bad bunch, and I thought Twitter was bad, but Reddit may be worse.

I’m genuinely thinking of deleting my account and leaving Reddit, because there’s no winning either this tormenting people. I’m not even going to call them trolls at this point. Reddit is a place where people love to torment, and you can’t even defend yourself when needed, because then you’ll be gaslit into thinking you’re the villain somehow.

I can’t sleep, as usual, I’m bored, I’m incredibly tired, but my brain nor mind will not let me sleep, so here I am just ranting per usual.

Mildly Annoyed Grandmother protects grown man who pees like a dog

I live in my mom's house with my grandmother and uncle, currently my mom is absent this past year. My uncle is 29 and has a job (I think), when he first moved in he was absolutely drunk and peed all over the house, the living room and bathroom. He is also very annoying, talking loudly, stomping around, and kicking walls (all in the middle of night). After the first week of moving in he stopped drinking, he didn't even remember peeing all over the house, and when I did tell him, not a fucking apology in any form. He also sucks at cleaning up after himself when sober, the most he's done is take out trash and wash dishes. Often I clean up his badly aimed piss stains on the toilet, and his beard hairs in the sink. Ect ect, I stopped cleaning the bathroom when he moved in. I hate having a dirty house, so when I did live alone I cleaned. But anytime I do clean when living with them, they decided to just disregard any of that work. The house that was once mopped every week and barely has anything around on the floors (including surfaces), is a mess with my grandmothers stuff all around. I haven't mopped or vacuumed in 5 months because they won't clean up and put their stuff away.

I honestly hate living in a dirty house, and would love to clean it but i am to petty to clean it if that ugly fucker lives here. The piss boy decided yesterday being an drunk person was great, and now is back to the habit of peeing around. My grandma will not let me kick him out and cleans up after his pee (half assed). Honestly I don't get mad much because Im just numbed up most of the time and I just forget anything that makes me upset, but living with this guy is making more depressed than ever. I don't have anyone to talk to about my frustrations so reddit thank you.

Relationship/Dating I feel like every time I try and make a friend it has a twist.

So in the last couple of years I have tried to make a friend and 60% of the time, I end up being ghosted or the person won't talk to me unless I start messaging them, and I sit there and think to myself " did I say or do something wrong?", like why lam I being ignored/ ghosted.

Then theres a group of people who are essentially self centred, like the only subject they talk about is themselves, they won't take interest in you and your hobbies or it's a type of person who essentially don't do anything, like they come back home from work, watch porn and go to bed and then go to work the next day, rinse and repeat, going out with them to an event or a location is near impossible.

Even if I do manage to make a friend each one of them has a twist as to why I cannot hang out or do things on a somewhat regular basis.

Here are few examples based on actual people around me:

Person A: me and him have similar interests but he lives on welfare/ benefits, I can't really make any plans with him, even if the thing doesn't involve money he will give you 101 reasons as to why he can't go.

Person B: has a job, has his own car and on top of that me and him share a lot of interest, but here's the kicker, he has wife and 3 small children and for obvious reasons his family is his priority..

Person C: Has a job, doesn't have a wife and kids and has access to a car and we more or less have the same interests, but he lives in a completely different country to me, and on top of that you need a visa to get into the country, in other words traveling to this person is going to be very expensive.

And because these factors I feel like lam in a dead end when it comes to making friends and by no means lam calling people bad because they won't be friends with me and all lam asking is for a friend group that's all and iam not demanding for 24/7 attention, all I want is for someone to call me, ask me how lam and if I want to do something

The vast majority of people you engage with are not narcissistic or evil. They’re likely just traumatized and emotionally immature.

I'm just ranting because I need to get this out. I want to say this I do believe that evil people exist, but the vast majority people are just traumatized. The vast majority of people that you are engaging with are not narcissists. They're just traumatized people who are emotionally immature. And that's literally it. We are a country (world honestly) of millions of people who are emotionally immature, who don't know how to regulate ourselves, don't know how to identify our emotions, don't know how to know when we're triggered and when we're not triggered. And don't know how to act when we're triggered because we were raised by generations upon generations of people who also were triggered and don't know how to understand that they were triggered or fix that or anything like that. So they took it out on their kids and taught their kids shitty ways of engaging with other people and dealing with their emotions and so on and so forth. We are all blind and going around in the fucking dark. We're traumatized. We're scared. We don't know how to trust anybody. We don't know how to trust ourselves because there are so many emotionally unintelligent people. And the really frustrating thing about understanding trauma and emotions and things like that is that we have enough information now to understand just how fucked up we are and just how starved we are for emotionally intelligent relationships and conversations. But the fun flip side is that our society does not give us the resources to actually fix that. So basically, we are aware enough to know that we are in a desert and we are fucking starving for emotional interactions. We are thirsting for it. And yet we don't know where to find good, clean water. We don't know where to find good clean water. It is not accessible to us. And I mean that in terms of social emotional learning courses, in terms of therapy and good therapy and therapeutic spaces. A lot of people are told to just go to therapy with no other context or explanation or guidance on how to actually find a therapist that's right for them. There are tons of different kinds of therapists that engage in a ton of different kinds of therapy and different therapies work for different people. Different modalities work for different people. Different modalities work for different diagnoses and problems and issues and so on and so forth. And a big thing is finding a therapist that you connect with. And that's just a specific thing. You never really know who you're going to connect with until you talk to them. And when you finally get to somebody, you have already been on a waitlist for God only knows how long, have had to spend a stupid amount of money because health insurance is shit and have had to answer a bunch of what feels like bullshit questions just to even try to talk to somebody for once. And then you get there and you realize that you really don't click. And this person really isn't right for you. Not necessarily that they're a bad therapist because there are bad therapists. But a lot of times they just may not be the right therapist for you. Just like in a lot of relationships, that person may not necessarily be a bad person. They're just not the right person for you. Or you and that other person have been triggered and traumatized and don't know how to communicate or notice when you're triggered, notice how to calm yourself down, notice how to take accountability for the things that you say and do when you are triggered. Because in a lot of arguments, both people have engaged in shitty behavior that they need to take accountability for. An argument is not always just one person did something terrible. It takes at minimum two people to have an argument The vast majority of us are really just fumbling around in the dark and don't know who to trust or how to find ways to build confidence in our ability to find good people all the time. And think about this: the fact that like in order to learn what you like and what you don't like in relationships, you have to actually get into relationships. And a lot of times you wind up getting in relationships at your teenage years or your 20s for people who are in those relationships. And just like you're emotionally immature in your teens and 20s and a lot of people in their 30s and 40s and 50s because of the aforementioned stuff, so is the other person. And so you have this dynamic where y'all hurt each other because you don't know what to do. And then you grow up with this mentality. A lot of people grow up with this mentality that everyone is bad, that everyone's a shitty person, that everyone that they engage with is just toxic or narcissistic or that they're just a magnet for shitty people, when the reality is there's just a fuck ton of emotionally unintelligent people And nine times out of ten, if you have experience dating, it was when both of you were teenagers or in your early 20s and didn't know what you were doing. It doesn't mean your hurt wasn't real. It doesn't mean the pain wasn't real. It doesn't mean the relationship wasn't real. But putting that in that context hopefully can help you understand that there are probably things that you did that weren't okay for that person, just like there are things that that person did that were not okay for you. And neither of you has to be evil to do wrong. Sometimes y'all can just do wrong. Or sometimes you guys just aren't compatible dating-wise, but you're compatible friends-wise. And that happens. And no one needs to be a bad person. Sometimes it's just that. In fact, a lot of times it's just that.

Just A Rant The male loneliness epidemic had gotten very bad

• Upvotes

Finding relationships is really impossible these days. I, and many other people in gen z, missed the best chance to find a relationship because of the actions of the older gens like gen x, millennials, and boomers.

When covid struck, the old people in the government shut everything down, including college. They forced social isolation and online classes instead. Now out of college and having my entire youth wasted by the actions of the ignorant, it is seemingly much harder to find people to meet. Basically hardcore difficulty.

There are no third places or cheap event tickets like what the old gens used to have when they were young. For example, the Amazon online store have caused the closure of many malls across the country because of convenience over quality. The internet is destroying society sadly.

Such is similar with social media which has caused many people to stop making an effort to meet others irl. Gen z is now the most anti social generation in history because of the rise of social media. People paved roads to hurry through life and now theres barely any people walking down a path to greet each other.

I can only imagine how much worse the male loneliness epidemic will get it the future.

Just A Rant Why do men always feel the need to tell women to do stuff?

• Upvotes

I remember a few days ago I was getting food from a place that offers free food like 2 days in a week and one of the Moids that was giving me the box of food

Had said "oh do you ever smile when you come here you always look sad" and then he pretended to do a face expression I do which was a very exaggerated sad face expression and I'm pretty sure that was his sly way of telling me to smile more

mind you I don't even know who this guy is or pay attention to him why are you paying so much attention to me?? When I don't even pay attention to you like

I have literally never seen this guy in my life maybe I did but I honestly never cared enough to recognize his face men need to stop commenting on how a womans face should look mind your fucking business fuck

That honestly disturbed me for 1 hour my whole mood literally changed because maybe if my face is deadpen all the time then it's probably because thats just my resting face duhh like omg i don't have to smile theirs nothing to smile about in life

And who's smiling when in a crowded place who's enjoying being around so many people in a line and mind you their were a lot of women who go to get free food who do not smile or who's faces are neutral but no he decided to specifically talk about me??

I hate moids so much and the person that was with me was saying it's not that serious he was just joking well don't play with me like that if you don't comment on other womens appearance then don't comment on mine I don't even play like that

Relationship/Dating It’s quite annoying when I’m available to do certain ā€œthingsā€ but nobody else is and when I’m not—everyone wants to.

That’s it. That’s the post.

That or I’ll send pics of what I look like and if I’m not immediately able to snap a live pic back within 10 mins cuz god forbid I’m actually doing something, they’ll say that I’m a bot or an AI, mind you I will legit send pics that aren’t on the profile they’re looking at šŸ™„. Quite quite quite annoying ngl. Bro i genuinely miss the ā€œoldenā€ days where photoshop was easy to see and you could tell if someone was fake or not cuz then maybe people would stop making that mistake with me.

By the way this is NOT a fucking advertisement, I’m getting annoyed with mods because they don’t get that I’m simply complaining about my experiences with when I TRIED (LITERALLY PAST TENSE) to date or be FWB with ppl and they deadass just didn’t believe me when I said anything. Like damn bitch did you wanna FaceTime too?!?
Hope this makes sense, I’m tired. Goodnight

Online schools are not for everyone. In fact, no one.

• Upvotes

Think of the following as a public service announcement and the fact that I am providing you a friendly warning. Please share it with everyone that you know that is thinking of going to school, including family and friends.

These places, including programs like CTU (look up CTU specifically. They have a history of doing things that are not right. You do not want to connect yourself with any program that is known for doing negative things), they will call you over and over again if you make the mistake of looking up information all because you saw some ad that talks about you getting thousands upon thousands of dollars. You looked into it because you're thinking you're going to get that money to use for yourself. Many people actually do, and they end up destroying themselves financially because you are going to end up owing that money back no matter how you look at it. Many of you have already devastated yourself financially, and you think you're going to be able to get more financial aid and you come to find out that you are in default.

Stop devastating yourself financially. These programs do not care that you do that. They will attempt to sign you up in approximately an hour or less. If you are interested in becoming a mechanic, they will try to convince you that you're better off with a business degree. Pursue what you love. Do not be convinced otherwise. They will highlight all the different benefits of being an online student. Let me ask you this, do you have the discipline to be technically alone online to do the work required of you? Are you good with technology, and I don't mean texting? You are going to be doing a lot of typing. Are you good on a keyboard? Are you able to navigate various windows of information? Are you a person that prefers to be in a classroom setting? These places will convince you that you can do it.

The degrees that they offer are outdated. They are not specific to a particular industry, they are mostly general. Don't pursue a business degree because you have convinced yourself that you want to open up a business. Is your business already open? It takes a lot to open up a business, not just getting a business degree. They will creatively convince you that it's worth doing. What will most likely happen is you will end up becoming maybe at most a secretary, if that. If you want to go into counseling, these places like CTU do not lead to any specific certification that is often required to become a counselor. CTU does not provide certification on any level. These places target the elderly, homeless, and people in rehab. People that are already desperate that come to realize they need something more than just a GED. They are desperate financially.

Most of these places, like CTU, have an incredibly low graduation rate. Roughly around 11%. Think of that. Of every 100 potential graduates, only roughly 11 graduate. That means that the majority quit, cancel, or just withdraw. That means that most likely they came to realize that the degree is not worth it. These places hound you to keep posting attendance over and over again locking you in deeper and deeper. And if you finally decide to stop doing the work, by then it does not matter because you will owe.

Don't take these calls. Tell these programs that you are no longer interested. Do not apply. Do your research and go to a program locally and pursue a certificate or degree in something that you prefer. That you love. That you will be excited about. Look for something that is in demand. These places are not going to promise career services and job placement. Many of them don't even have these services. They're not going to be able to tell you if whether or not you can get a job after pursuing a specific degree. Do yourself a favor and sit in a classroom where you can raise your hand and ask specific questions, and read text books with information that will strengthen you and prepare you to have an actual future.

Pursuing a degree is one of the more beautiful things you will ever do in your life. Remember, it is an investment in you. In your future. In your family. You may only have one shot at this. Make it amazing and make it worth it. Get away from these programs that all they do is print out diplomas like a factory. You are just a number to them. You should value your life, your family, and your future. You are built for greatness. Love yourself. Stop devastating yourself.

Some female "Influencers" should get banned for bringing down their own gender

Recently, I saw a TikTok post titled "How to dress like a performative girl" from an influencer who claims to be a girl's girl and has a history of body-shaming and blocking other creators who called her out.
I normally don't care about these videos, but there is one thing that caught me off guard: the way she describes the image of this so-called "Performative girl"
She starts by saying

"This is how to dress like a performative girl," followed by steps
"Step 1- A Tank top" (And she uses a normal white tank top)
"Step 2- The most unflattering baggy jeans you can find" (Uses the most normal baggy jeans ever)
"Step 3- A thrifted belt" ( A normal belt again, and I guess the thrift part was added for no reason? A belt is a belt)
"Step 4- ballet flats" ( Yeah...because now wearing shoes you like is performative)
"Step 5- Sunglasses you definitely don't need" ( Ever realized the sun is a thing?)
"Step 6- The loudest bangles you own" (I kid you not, she uses two normal bangles on each hand... shocker)
"Step 7- a coach bag" (Literally is labelled as a purse)
"Step 8- Wired headphones and a book about women"

The last step is the one that got me. "A book about women."
Why is reading a book about women performative? You have got to be kidding me
YOU DESCRIBED THE MOST NORMAL OUTFIT EVER, AND YOU ARE CALLING IT PERFORMATIVE?
The hypocrisy is not lost on me because she is the one performing for a TikTok

I leave a long scar on back of my husband shoulder, and he still protect me, and still does everything to keep our marriage intact.

• Upvotes

Since this is a vent sub, this is my vent.

I leave a long scar on back of my husband shoulder, and he still protect me even with him bleeding out, still does everything to keep this marriage intact.

Just like depression is very real, mental illness is also very real. Google Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED), it categorize under mental illness.

Married 15 years this Feb, together 17 years.

And this is a West African man that is 190cm tall, he 6'3" tall and athletic body, while I'm just 150cm, 5 feet petite short Chinese girl. This is a man who hobbies are hunting, outdoor shooting range, mountains rock climbing, run long distance. My point is with his height and strength, he not scare of me, just like how he said he not scare of me, it because he LOVES me. He is a Love-idiot.!

I was diagnosed with Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED) by my psychiatrist (psychiatrist is someone who has a medical doctor degree). My psychiatrist said it stem from my chaotic and dysfunction childhood.

It terrible to live with Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED), especially when you hurting your spouse.

------------

This event already happened a long time ago and it in the past, but I still feel insanely terrible about it. So I need to write it out.

In the past during one of my IED episode, I grabbed a meat butcher knife in the kitchen and throw at my husband, he dodge but due to how close distance he with me, the knife cut him deep that leave a long cut on his back shoulder that he didn't stop bleeding.
If he not get stitches he will continue bleed and bleed, and infections will take over the open bleeding wound.

He still want to protect me even wit him bleeding out, like he said, if he call the police he police will take me away from him, so he rather endure my abuse than has to lose me.

He also refused go to the hospital, because the hospital would know right away that is not a self inflicted wound due to the angle of the knife throw, the cut was on his shoulder but to his back as he dodge. You cannot inflicted a knife to your back. Even if you manage to, the angle of the injury the hospital will know that it someone did it to you, not yourself.

He droves (I was in the car) he droves to a broke down Urgent care, this Urgent Care not only broke down but most people there not even speak English.
He went in and told them he does not have insurance (he has, but he said he not has as he not want to leave a paper trail), he said give him stitches he will pay them in cash and will give them a big tips.

He got the stiches, and he paid in cash and leave them a big tips. He wanted to protect me the whole time even with him bleeding out. He could have call the police and have my ass throw in jail. He could go straight to the hospital and the hospital will put me in psych ward and put restrain order on me.

But he NEVER, even during the time where he could have die, he still protect me, he still thinks of me first above himself, he loves me that much.

His love for me override his survival instinct, he was bleeding out still protect me. He said he wants to keep our marriage intact, I cannot get taking away.

He said he will die with me, than has to lose me, as in the police will take me away from him if he call the police on me.

I regret it so much because I leave this long scar on back of his shoulder, never once he hates me.
All he asked was he said, don't abuse him anymore, and that it not too late for me to stop this abuse, because he is still living here, and it only too late if he die, then that will be too late.

I bawled when I hear him he said that.

That was when I decided to go to psychiatrist therapy for my Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED), and been in therapy since.

I do owe him, as I should be sitting rotten in jail right now, throw a butcher knife at someone and cause injury is a felony. This man loves me unconditionally. Out of love me, he never press charges, he still protect me times after times. I'm very lucky.

He treats me with kindness, empathy, and unconditional love. His calmness (even with him bleeding out on his shoulder that need stiches to close up the open wound), his patience, the most patience man.
He gives me everything, his kindness, faithfulness, respect, love. I don't want to abuse him anymore.

Lifetime therapy for me working to control my Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED). I have sworn if I cause physical harm to him again I will check myself in the psych ward.

---------

And my husband does go with me to my therapy sessions when his schedules allow. But most time he can't because he is an Executive at a big engineering corporate, he is very very busy with his work.

But I gave my therapist my consent so she can talk to my husband about my progress. He still involve in my therapy, as he talk to my therapist on the phone about my IED conditions and my progress.

He has every rights to be involve with my therapy sessions, I almost TOOK HIS LIFE.! He almost DIE because of me.

It terrible, Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED) mental illness is very real. And I'm one damn lucky girl to have him as my husband.

What gets me is he loves me to the point that he still protect me even with him bleeding out. That not let anyone take me away from him was more important than his own survival instinct. Because he knows if he call call the police I will get taking away, he rather bleed out than lose me.

The insane amount of devotion he has for me though. Never again I abuse him again, I mean one time was enough, almost took his life. And he still protect me.

Just A Rant Tired of Nursery practitioners being demonised

Its exactly as it says. In the UK at the moment, us nursery practioners are being demonised by the media. It really is a like a few ruin it for everyone else. Now because the company I work for is under fire, people look at me like I personally abuse their kids. I am tired of being looked at and made to feel like I am the problem because I work in a nursery. I love every one of my key children and have watched so many children grow and develop not only their milestones but their learning. Safeguarding is important to me too and it makes me angry when I hear about things going wrong. I have a degree in early childhood that literally put myself into nearly £100k debt for. Bottom line is that nursery practitioners are underpaid, over worked and under appreciated. If parents spent a day in our shoes (think 24 babies, half are crying because of their attachments to their parents) then they would understand.

Sorry for the rant. I love my job and I am passionate about childcare, but its got to the point in bending over backwards and exhausting myself mentally and physically to keep parents happy.

Not That Serious god everyone takes everything so seriously on reddit

another redditor saying they hate reddit, shocking.

just saw a post about this girl saying she didn’t like her boyfriends dog but how she can’t do anything about it because she moved in, everyone dragged her saying she’s mentally disturbed for not liking this dog and that she doesn’t love her boyfriend if she doesn’t love his dog.

genuinely it’s not that serious. A girl says she doesn’t like her boyfriends dog, and the world kept moving.

like genuinely it amazes me how people feel so entitled to making this broad assumptions on people based off one complaint.

Family Drama I’m so done with my brother

All my life I have felt like my brother just genuinely doesn’t like me. My mother has told me before that it’s just in my head and that my brother loves me and I was inclined to believe her until tonight. Before I get into that specific thing tho I would like to say that most of my life I have been moody, it’s a character flaw I know, I’ve tried to work on it but I can’t help when I’m just not in the mood to be happy. My grandfather has gotten on the other side of that often not because I hate him or anything it’s just sometimes we’ll be having a good family dinner then he just says something that brings the mood down and I accidentally show that it annoys me more than I would like. I’ve also said things in the past about a little cousin of mine being too sassy and that they need to be nicer to their mother, my brother had then replied with ā€œsays youā€ which fair but also like do you really hate me that much you feel the need to say that when I’m trying to make sure my little cousin doesn’t end up like me? Also I said something about my brother’s attitude once and he said ā€œyou’re one to talkā€ … ouch but whatever right? That’s what I thought until tonight. My father was telling a story and in the story one of the people says the N-word so my dad said the N-word which if it’s not obvious we are a very white family, so I said ā€œhey you shouldn’t say that wordā€ he’s gotten a lot better at not saying it anymore but it still happens and I still correct him, however, this was the first time that my brother has heard me correct him and I honestly can’t even remember what he said exactly but it was something along the lines of ā€œits just a wordā€ so that led into some more things but I’m not going to get into it because this isn’t under the political part of this sub. That conversation led into my brother saying ā€œis that why you don’t like grandpa?ā€ … … WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU SAYING????? I love my grandpa to bits, yes he gets in my nerves but he doesn’t use those words around me ever so I have no clue how that even comes into this situation in the first place. But also my brother doesn’t know me, he hasn’t showed any interest in getting to know me or showing up for anything that I’m interested in (unless his wife makes him) so he has absolutely no idea what goes on inside my head. So no *BROTHERS NAME* I don’t dislike grandpa but whatever. After he said that to me I was absolutely speechless and really hurt, how could be think I dislike my grandpa that’s horrible so I just told him bye and walked downstairs to my room. If I’m being honest I think I’m going to cut him out of my life as best as I can, I’ve already been thinking about it because of all the stuff he’s said before about me but now I actually don’t think I can be around him anymore. I honestly just need to put this somewhere because I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this right now but yea… whoever is reading this I hope you have a good day/night and I hope you don’t have to go through something like this, and if you do just know your worth and when it’s best to cut ties with people who are having a negative impact on your life.

T.V/Social Media šŸ–„ I don't get the Odyssey hype! WHY is it being hailed as the Best Picture???

I saw The Odyssey and was soooooo confused on all the hype. There were cool technical moments, and it had a stacked cast, sure, but overall it fell flat for me. Especially as an adaptation! Nolan destroyed so many of the female characters' stories and somehow made it feel more regressive than the original from ANCIENT F'ING GREECE. I think some acting noms (maybe even wins) along with tech wins are warranted, but it being hailed as this unbeatable frontrunner for BEST PICTURE??? To put it up with movies like Parasite, Silence of the Lambs, Chicago, 12 Years a Slave, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and all these other movies that are some of the absolute best in their entire genres feels insane to me. Even compared to Nolan's previous Best Picture contenders, Inception, Dunkirk, and, of course, Oppenheimer, which he won for, it feels like such a downgrade.

ESPECIALLY when we have two movies that are arguably the best films ever made in their genres: Wildwood and You Can See Everything. I'd much rather either of them win, and I think they deserve it more than The Odyssey. They genuinely are the best animated film and documentary I've ever watched, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about either one since seeing them. If you haven't seen either of them yet, PLEASE DO! THEY ARE SO GOOD! Wildwood took 16 years, is human-made stop motion (1,400+ people worked on it), and it's a mature, beautiful story that definitely deserves to be recognized in Best Picture and be the first animated winner. The hate it's getting because its main female character (a child by the way) isn't "hot" enough is absolutely insane

Full Meltdown I lost my mic and my girl at the same damn time

So for context, I’m a musician part time, mostly I make music every once in a while. I’ve been having a lot of relationships troubles. My girlfriend of more than one and a half years is saying shit like ā€œI feel empty in this relationship ā€œ ā€œI don’t do anything ā€œ ā€œI’m only hurting you ā€œ. We have been in a long distance for the most part and she barely calls these days, all we did for months now is just argue one after the other fucking argument, and finally something tucked her off again as usual and another argument I just thought it’s regular and she would be back soon to the usual but this time maybe it wasn’t and when all of this text exchange was going on, the mic I’ve been using for about two years now falls down from the stand and break, as I see it’s only the frame thankfully the main disc ( sensor ) and the capsule seem unharmed it’s just the grill and frame but still man damn it, I barely can afford gas these days and this shit happens it just pissed me off soo bad I couldn’t do shit. I don’t know where to put this anger at so I’ve been indulging in repeated pushups till failure šŸ„€ and I’m still pissed off and hence ranting about it

Mildly Annoyed A driver drove through a huge puddle and absolutely soaked me.

I was walking on the pavement to school ( I'm in my final year), when unknown to me there was a huge puddle coming up and he purposely sped up slightly and absolutely soaked me.🄺

Had to change into spare pe kit at school as my blouse, skirt, socks were so wet and I was freezing.

The school were nice and let me sit by the radiator in the school gym and gave me a hot drink.

I got to join in the pe classes seeing as I had the spare kit on although I had to go barefoot, but it was nice of them to do this till my clothes dried.

Mental Health asshole =/= narcissist, it’s like people forgot swearing exists and not everything is a personality disorder

As requested, here we go with number 3 of my mental health rants. I’m getting increasingly tired of watching the internet diagnose every unpleasant person as a narcissist.

I’m getting increasingly tired of watching the internet diagnose every unpleasant person as a narcissist.

Your ex ignored your texts? Narcissist.

Bad Breakup? Narcissist.

Your boss took credit for your work? Narcissist.

Your mother disagreed with you? Covert narcissist.

Someone was simply selfish, rude, emotionally immature, or an absolute nightmare? Clearly a personality disorder.

Can we please bring back the word **ā€œassholeā€**? Like seriously, what happened to the old-fashioned being an asshole? Did the word just die?

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is real and serious. It is NOT a clinical synonym for a ā€œperson who upset me.ā€ It involves a persistent pattern of grandiosity, entitlement, need for admiration, impaired empathy, and significant dysfunction.

And here is the part social media often misses or conveniently leaves out: narcissism is rooted in profound insecurity, shame, and fear. Behind the grandiosity may be a fragile sense of self, a fear of rejection, humiliation, inadequacy, or loss of control. That does not excuse abusive behaviour. It helps explain why narcissistic behaviour can involve such an exhausting cycle of superiority, defensiveness, blame, and emotional retaliation.

Understanding the fear underneath narcissism does not mean handing someone a free ā€œget out of accountabilityā€ card. Trauma may explain behaviour; it does not make the behaviour harmless. A wounded person can still wound other people. Compassion and boundaries are not mutually exclusive, despite what the internet’s amateur therapists may imply.

In the US there are currently only about 0.5–1%, or approximately 1–3 million people that are diagnosed with NPD. ONLY 0.5-1% of the population

The same thing has happened with ā€œgaslighting.ā€ Someone disagrees with you? Gaslighting. Someone remembers an event differently? Gaslighting. Someone points out that you also contributed to the argument? Gaslighting. Someone points out the truly toxic people in your life? Obviously gaslighting...*eye roll*

Sometimes you were treated badly. Sometimes someone is manipulative or abusive. You are allowed to leave, block them, and set boundaries without first obtaining a psychiatric diagnosis from TikTok University.

This obsession with labels is also affecting professionals. We, doctors and therapists, hear ā€œnarcissistā€ used constantly online, and the result? There is a real risk that it becomes casual shorthand for difficult, entitled, defensive, or emotionally demanding behaviour. Repetition makes bad language feel clinically normal, and suddenly a complex assessment has been replaced by a label everyone already decided was true. But we end up being the ones getting blamed, because we should know better. Well, fun fact: doctors are human too; we make mistakes and are just as affected by social media psychology as everyone else. And I get it; everyone of you has had their experiences with those stereotypical doctors, you know, the kind with a stick up their ass, think they know everything, don't even actually listen to what you're saying, etc etc., but not all of us are like that.

What we are doing is highly dangerous. Once someone is called a narcissist, every action becomes ā€œproof.ā€ They stop being a complicated person and become the villain in an online morality play, while the other person is automatically cast as the empathic hero who has never once behaved badly. Convenient. Also not psychology.

A more useful approach is to ask:

- What did this person actually do?

- Is it a repeated pattern?

- Do they take responsibility?

- Do they respect boundaries?

- Do I feel safe around them?

- What do I need to do next?

You do not need to prove that someone has Narcissistic Personality Disorder in order to walk away, nor does someone have to have actual NPD in order to be bad for you.

Sometimes the person is abusive. Sometimes they are manipulative. Sometimes they are terrified, ashamed, and defending themselves through destructive behaviour. Sometimes the relationship is toxic on both sides.

And sometimes, in the Old School and beautifully efficient diagnostic language of ordinary people, they are just a selfish asshole.

That word has survived for centuries. It remains criminally underused.
