Discord

Please read this before posting
Welcome to the r/Mongolia subreddit!
Can't wait to post something? Great. Just keep the following in mind.
- Read the subreddit rules, and refrain from denigrating remarks against any community or identity-based groups. In short, be nice. Even if you're criticizing the two big superpower neighbors, which is often justified, be specific and avoid generalizations.
- No NSFW/disturbing content allowed. We mods do unpaid labor to keep this sub enjoyable, why traumatize us on top? You'll be warned once and banned next*. (OK. Sleeping with an axe to protect from burglars is okay because it's more funny than it's disturbing, but you're also exposing yourself to getting doxxed by doing an axe selfie.)
- Add a flair to your post. We deleted the old, single-word flairs and added some colorful, bilingual flairs. This will help sort the posts for experts and info-seekers for posterity. The new post flairs are:
- Discussion |
- Travel |
- Politics |
- Meme |
- News |
- Photo |
- Tips |
- Question |
- Food |
- Rant |
- Need Advice |
- Language |

- History |
- Music |
- Wholesome |
- Survey |
If you need us to add more flairs, please comment below and we'll add it. (I just added the Language flair after seeing at least 3 questions that fall under this category.)
- Customize your user flair (if you can). This can give context to your post and help people understand where you're coming from (pun intended). (Some of) The templates for the user flairs are:
- emoji:mongoliaFlag:
- emoji:arrow:
- emoji:otherFlag:
- emoji:otherFlag:
- emoji:arrow:
- emoji:mongoliaFlag:
- аймаг/aimag/province
- foreigner
Show kindness to one another and be civil, in both posts and comments. This is how you earn karma! You may not agree with some people's (even the mods') opinions, but expressing the disagreement rationally is a basic netiquette.
* - First ban will last 30 days, and then go on increments until it becomes a permanent one. Mods recently weighed one user's ban and halved it. So if you want to plead your case after an unjust ban, just ask us without attacking, and second or third mod might help you (with at least lessening your ban.)
Wait, why is my post/comment not showing up?
We mods often approve posts/comments that were automatically flagged and removed by Reddit's site wide hate speech and harassment banning system.
Typed something Mongolian in Latin? Reddit doesn't understand and removes it.
Geopolitical stuff with reference to nationalities in strong sentiments? Flagged and removed by reddit.
Posted something with an account less than 7 days old? Removed by reddit.
Said slur words? Removed by automod. We're still improving that one though.
Thank you for reading this, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
SkinnyHumpty

Discussion | Хэлэлцүүлэг What they do (Wealthy people)
If you know anyone who’s wealthy, or have heard of people who are, I’m curious about what they do for a living, what businesses they own, or how they make their money in this economy.
Just look at apartment prices near Khan-Uul Emart. They’re around 1 billion MNT, and people are still buying them. I’m genuinely curious about what these people do for a living to afford properties like that.

Tips | Зөвлөгөө need help
Title: I’m 20 and honestly my life is falling apart. I don’t know what to do anymore.
I honestly don’t even know why I’m posting this. I just have nobody to talk to anymore.
I’m 20, from Mongolia, and my life has completely fallen apart. I used to work at a financial company, sell cars on the side, make decent money and actually have plans for my future. Things weren’t perfect, but I was doing okay.
Then a money laundering case happened at my workplace, and I got dragged into it as a suspect. Since then, everything has gone to shit.
My family thinks I did it. My friends stopped talking to me. People I trusted just disappeared from my life. My relationship has been affected too. It feels like everyone has already decided what kind of person I am without even trying to understand me.
The police situation scared the hell out of me too. Things have been quieter lately, but I still don’t know what’s going to happen.
And now I’m just here, watching my whole life fall apart, with no idea what the fuck I’m supposed to do next.
I’m struggling financially, I don’t even feel secure about where I’m going to live, and I have nobody I can genuinely sit down and talk to. My head never shuts up. I overthink everything, get scared over random things, and keep imagining the worst possible outcomes.
I miss how my life used to be. I miss having people around me. I miss being able to wake up without immediately feeling anxious about everything.
I know I’m only 20 and people will say I have my whole life ahead of me. But honestly, that doesn’t really help when you’re living through this shit right now.
I don’t even need someone to tell me everything will magically be okay. I just want to know how people actually get back up when they’ve hit rock bottom and have nobody to lean on.
If you’ve ever been in a situation where you lost almost everyone, your reputation, your stability, and basically everything you were working towards, how did you survive it?
Because right now, I genuinely feel broken, lost, and completely alone. I have no idea where to even start rebuilding my life.
I could really use some advice, or honestly, just someone who understands.

Question | Асуулт Is there a notary office that works with documents in English
I have a couple of international test results that I need copied into true copies ( true copies are basically just copies but proven to be similar to the real thing by a third party) so that I can mail them to a university. And this one notary at anduud told me we are not capable of notarizing documents in foreign languages so I was wondering if there are any notary offices that will notarize my test materials since I can't go to England to get a stamp of approval on my test results. If you know of such a place please provide the location or even better a Google maps link to the place.

Rant | Хуурай агсам Mongolia will never develop.
I need to rant about this or else I’ll explode!
It's late October and the city's winter transport problem is already here. Look at any local news post right now and the comments are full of the same story: people stuck in the cold at stops, buses so crammed you can't breathe, and no real answers from the city. I was walking for an hour and then waited for the bus for such a long time I ended up having to take a taxi. My feet was freezing even though I’m already wearing winter boots I can’t imagine what it’s like for others who have to live without heating.
The deeper problem is that this is what happens when a city grows for 30+ years with no real planning. Everyone moved in, construction went up with no infrastructure to match, and now we're all paying for it every single winter, in -30°C, standing at a stop wondering if the next bus will even come. When the same problem returns every year and the fix is always "more buses," it stops looking like bad luck and starts looking like people not doing their jobs, or worse, not being held accountable for the money.
Every citizen deserve transparency: how many buses are actually running? Where the budget goes? who decides the routes?? and why drivers are leaving. We shouldn't be treated like cattle.
Anyone else dealing with this? What's your commute like right now?

Discussion | Хэлэлцүүлэг Son of Trump with Russian friend spent days in Mongolia together at Uvs Nuur camp.
Son of Donald Trump, Trump Jr. spent two days with Russian businessman Umar Kremlev, head of the International Boxing Association (IBA), during his trip to Mongolia. This was reported by The Financial Times.
According to the newspaper, the US president's son reached the Uvs Nuur camp in late August, traveling several hundred kilometers. There, he stayed with a small group that included hunting guides, drivers, and cooks.
Kremlev, in turn, after visiting Kazakhstan, where he attended an IBM press conference, headed to Ulaanbaatar. The businessman also left the Mongolian capital for the Uvs Nuur camp, where he spent two days before traveling to Yakutsk for the opening of an international boxing tournament. Sources indicate that Trump Jr. remained in Mongolia for another week.

Mongolia is seemingly entering mainstream internet culture and zeitgeist
With the recent anime of Jaadugar being a phenomenal success in the anime community, gaming depictions and renewed interest in the 12-13th century. Along with other events coinciding such as:
IShowSpeed's tour of Mongolia last year,
Paris 2024 Summer Olympics Mongolian traditional fashion,
with tons of memes and edits throughout tiktok and instagram,
And along with the legendary rise of Mongolz becoming the best CS team in Asia and competing onto the global stage and representing Mongolia.
Mongolia is moving away from the once ultra niche communities to becoming more and more niche maybe even getting close to mainstream(though, that one is a long ways away) topics.

Need Advice | Зөвлөгөө авъя skipped half a uni semester due to depression
i really need some advice. guys i don’t wanna tell a sob story, i’m simply depressed out of my mind. i don’t want to fall into a hole again.
rn it’s the 9th week of my second semester at mubis and i haven’t attended school at all this month. in september i attended about half of my classes, but since then i’ve just stopped going. i can’t find any will to be alive anymore, let alone attend class and learn. midterms are most likely over. idk if my grades are salvagable. i’m doing a bit better than the last few weeks, but i know there is no way to catch up if i start attending now.
i don’t have any friends/acquaintances at uni or any info on how to contact my professors (if they respond or whatnot). i don’t want to drop out of uni, no. i know i will be better next semester. i won’t make the same mistake again. but this semester’s grades seem to be already fucked up. idk how i can fix this. what can i do now? is it possible for me to take a break? can i converse with my professors without leaving the house? can i magically erase this semester from my diploma? i don’t need a lecture on my mental health or wasting credit money. any other help and advice is trulyyyy appreciated.

Scared of getting a Thai massage. How is it?
My boyfriend got me an appointment for Thai massage before my IELTS exam. Thai massage seems to be known for cracking, rougness, like doing yoga with the masseur etc. I am super scared of the masseur moving my neck or standing on me iii. The place is Lotus massage. Would it be okay? Anyone went there? I personally want to change it to maybe softer one like oil etc (but still work on my upper back because my upper back has a lot of muscle knots huyam) but a bit guilty because my bf is doing a nice gesture . How is thai massage? I am scared of injuring my spine or neck etc.

Is cheating really this common in Mongolia?
I recently broke up with my boyfriend after years together. I always thought our relationship was built on love, trust, and mutual respect.
Then I found out he’d been talking to other girls for the past two years. He even had secret accounts just to follow and message them. The more I dug, the more I found.
Every time I tried to leave, he’d beg me to stay and swear he loved me. But sooner or later, I’d catch him doing it again.
What confuses me most is that he never made me feel unloved. He was always affectionate, caring, and attentive.
Now that I look around, it feels like cheating is everywhere.
Is loyalty really that rare these days? Or do people, men and women alike, just naturally crave something new, even when they’re with someone they love?
