FINISHED Help wanted - spare decals

Post image
• Upvotes

I am on the hunt for spare 02 and stripe decals for this kit, the ‘Wild One’ modified stocker by MPC. I’m trying to build a race trailer that goes along with it. If anyone has decals they don’t mind parting with, send me a DM. I’ll pay you for postage. I’m in the US. Im trying this avenue before I go out buying another kit that will just add to my collection when I’m trying to build to get rid of boxes lol

FINISHED Revell ‘78 Chevy Blazer “Pulled Pork Pulldozer”

This build was full of firsts. First kitbash, first low rider paint scheme, first time modifying a body, first time just doing the complete opposite of what Revell intended lol. I made a bunch of big mistakes and learned some new things the hard way. This build quickly turned into a series of three questions - Can I do this, how does it look, and how can I do it better next time. The inconsistencies in the paint job are the result and product of me learning the hard way that enamels, lacquers, and acrylics don’t like to play together.

Originally I bought this kit because I wanted to steal the wheels and tires for something else. When I opened it and saw the body and realized that without the wheels I wouldn’t need the lifted suspension, I decided to turn it into a low rider. I took a ton of inspiration from the recent builds that u/West_Airline_1712 has done so big thank you to that guy. I also am not super happy with the paint design but in the end it’s about learning and getting better for the next build.

The chassis, suspension, and seats are from a Revell ‘71 Plymouth HEMI Cuda. The wheels are Aoshima Gram Lights R57GT. All paint is Tamiya Acrylic except for the base silver coat, that was Splash Paints Sparkle Silver.

As for how the kit went together… I have no idea, I used less than half of the actual kit lmao

RARE/COLLECTABLE 1/16 Shelby Cobra 427SC Kit from 1981

Unexpected find at a Mustang event in Melbourne on the weekend, this esci/ERTL Shelby Cobra 427 in 1/16 scale. I'd never seen a 1/16 car before, I thought that was all bikes. Scalemates says it's a 1981 kit and it's in perfect and complete condition. The moldings are right for the time, a bit of flash on some parts, and the chrome is a bit over the top, but I'll have some fun with it. Anyone built one of these and want to give advice or show us some pics?

Cut open hood. Lowered front and raised back for a rake. Kit bashed the motor from berlinetta bliss along with the scoop. The paint is kaleido lustrous orange and zirconium black. Was going to wood floor the bed but didn't think that matched the theme so I made a tonneau with cardboard and masking tape.

A scent strip did this to my Kyosho Ferrari F40 and this is really frustrating! 😭

r/ModelCars • • 16h ago

Had a little mishap and got some super glue on the hood of the rally raid mustang. At least it was on the black part, so I'll tape it up and redo the black when I add the black stripe to the cowl hood

FINISHED "The Calabrian" - Bull(et) With Butterfly Wings (Italeri Lamborghini Miura Jota SVJ)

Had to earn this one...made a few mistakes that I had to fix* and/or accept**, but also learned a lot and tried a few new techniques for the first time, to varying degrees of success. Was a satisfying build overall and I'm glad I got to try them with a relatively low-detail kit from Italeri, but I do want to see the quality difference with the same Hasegawa kit, as this one became frustrating towards the end. I switched out the stock bucket seats with some seats from a 90s Monogram 911 kit that I'm cannibalizing for a few different Porsche builds, including one that I'll be using the orphaned bucket seats for. I also replaced the molded-in mesh details with actual mesh.

*Screwed up the wheel placement and broke the movable assembly holding them on after I'd already glued it, so I re-engineered the suspension from the Italeri Land Rover kit to re-mount the wheels

**Had some clearcoat splatter on the hood when I was about to start airbrushing; after unsuccessful touchup, I turned the resulting blotches into a bullet hole and a blood splatter because reasons (see below)

The concept was inspired by this car:

The Corsican

I imagined this build when I started as one of the other SVJs that was customized by and then secretly shipped off to a reclusive Calabrian deep in the mountains who was rumoured to have worked as a "fixer" from time to time for REALLY high-ranking mobsters in the 70s; the damage was the recent result of a scuffle that happened when he was fixing something (though it mostly happened because his car designer/builder was an idiot).

Exterior: Splash Paints Pink Red Base, Mr. Hobby Wine Red, then Kaizo X Barbatos Rex CC-09 Clear Blood Red. Clearcoated with Mr. Hobby Super Clear III. Testors Metallic Copper and Alclad Gunmetal on the exterior details. I tweaked the photos a bit to show the red as best I could; it's a really nice deep red in person that only sort of comes through in the pics, and I can't wait to try the Blood Red again down the line...or the rest of the ones in this line

Interior is Rust-Oleum Espresso Brown, Mr. Hobby Wine Red, dark red flocking, and some Hasegawa Copper Mirror Finish. Tried UV resin for the first time as well in the dash.

Anyway, it's Pumpkin season...

What do y'all do when you can't sleep? Well start on a new build of course. Shout out to highboy for doing a buddy build with me. Got the parts all cut and sanded, the body prepped, sanded, and scribed. Now I just have to sit and wait for the mail to deliver the parts ordered from Texas3dcustoms (who, I found out, lives close enough for me to go to his place and pick up the parts in person). Super chill guy, can't recommend his stuff enough. I'm excited as this is the first time I'm gonna cut up a kit to do an aftermarket widebody. Gonna throw on the widebody kit and some rims and tires. Thoughts? What color scheme should I go for? I'm leaning red. Feel free to weigh in!

QUESTION How to fix Body Defect?

Thumbnail

So I bought this Revell 1:25 plastic model in 2011 and I’m just getting around to building it so I can’t return/ exchange it. Also I don’t want to buy a whole new kit just for the body if at all possible as seeing how they have doubled in price since then.

It has a pretty big body defect from molding on the driver side quarter panel. Is there any way to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated!

WIP Roof painted...body almost completed

Finished painting the roof on the 59 Caddy. Will let the paint cure for a day or two then so some light wet sanding to even it out. Don't think I will clear coat it since its a vinyl roof but will sand the body and apply compound, polish and wax. REALLY happy with how this turned out!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my last post about protecting the body. I ended up wrapping most of the car in paper towels then taping everything and it worked really well.

Powered by the Honda RA168E V6 turbo engine, the MP4/4 dominated the 1988 Formula 1 season. McLaren won 15 out of 16 Grands Prix, while Ayrton Senna secured his first Formula 1 World Championship with this legendary car.

Should be complete this weekend, maybe sooner. I tried preshading for the first time on the interior and I like the results. After doing this I found some reference photos with red interior showing very nice patina and looked exactly like mine. So not too bad I guess! The red color is Mr. Color C81 Russet.

FINISHED #24 Jeff Gordon 1998, 1999 and 2000

I've ALWAYS loved the color-chroma paint schemes that Dupont ran over the years with Jeff Gordon. Starting with the original 'Chromalusion' that ran at The Winston in 1998, the #24 sported a color changing livery once a year for the following 3 years. I was on a mission a few years ago to build every one of these that I could!

1998 Dupont / NASCAR 50th Ann. - Run at The Winston All-Star race - Built using a slab-sided Revell Monogram Chevy Monte Carlo kit and a few sheets of the original Slixx decals produced for this (they were suuuuper brittle in places). Painted using some of the actual House of Kolor automotive paint used in real life. Gold -> Maroon color flop. 1k clear laid down before decals and also after to seal everything.

1999 Dupont / Superman - Run at The Winston All-Star race - Built using a slab-sided Revell Monogram Chevy Monte Carlo kit and a set of custom decals designed by myself and printed with the help of a fellow decal maker. Painted using some GreenStuffWorld colorshift airbrush paint which came out as a damn close approximation of the real car. Blue -> Red color flop. 1k clear laid down before decals and also after to seal everything. The driver figure was a 1/24 scale WinnersCircle collectable (of like 2003 Gordon I think.....) that I repainted and made custom decals for to match the firesuit that went along with the Superman livery. The driver helmet is pained in the colorshift paint as well.

2000 Dupont / NASCAR 2000 - Run at the Daytona 500 - Built using the 2000-2001 Revell Monogram Chevy Monte Carlo kit and a few sheets of the original Slixx decals produced for this. More than one sheet was needed here as well due to the age of the decals. Used some automotive paint here again as well - a Hyper Silver meant for wheel restoration. The photos really don't show how much this thing almost glows. 1k clear laid down before decals and also after to seal everything.

My best friend gifted me this kit, which he had kept for almost 30 years.

The decals had turned yellow and became brittle when I tried to slide them off the sheet, so I bought a replacement set. I also added some 3D-printed parts for extra detail. The rest of the build is pretty much stock.

Just finished it last weekend. A few screw ups here and there, but overall I'm satisfied with this build.

FINISHED Update

Not sure if anyone remembers the 1947 Fleetmaster i posted a little bit ago. I was looking for someone to build it and all that as ik nothing about any of this lol. I was THANKFULLY able to find someone who got it done in 4 DAYS!!

Unfortunately it was a very busy day so it was sliding around in the display case a lot so the side mirrors came off but im sure we can fix it.

Backstory: My bfs grandfather owned this car and he never let anyone BUT my bf drive it. His grandfather passed away a couple months ago and its his first bday without him. He meant a lot to him and he really shaped who my bf is today, wonderful person. He had mentioned how much this car means to him maybe twice, so i knew this was the perfect gift. He quite literally cried receiving the gift, and he never really cries. Im so glad things worked out and im very grateful for the man that built it for me he is GREAT!!!🫶🏻
