Seeking advice, lost, paralysis analysis
Here I am. Confused and not sure which direction to push. i understand that picking one path is key to success. tired of working on multiple things without much results.
I went to a community college for 4 years. Had my own business for a few years. Developed and manufactured a patented product(still half the investment is under the water but the experience was great).
Buying, selling cars, making warranty claims and winning them(most). Own product brand in the same industry. Also interested in real estate. Now, everything seems to have slowed down and I cannot decide which path to take as a main career and which to keep as a hobby/investments.
Its so slow to the point of me feeling like im unemployed and back to square one. Dont really want to continue and stay in the same spot either. Nothing is stable and i dont like it, I wouldnt be comfortable starting a family in this position as a provider.
For some reason Ive had lawschool in the back of my mind. Always thought if I would go study for something it'd be law. I do realize that if i go I shouldnt expect to have enough time to make money in the meantime, so that would mean no income or very low income for the next 3-5 years.
What should I know about lawschool that will help me decide if I should make the move or look for some other job/business where I'll be making money sooner?
I hear some lawyers work 10-12 hours until retirement, some build law firms that only requires them to work/supervise for a few hours a day. Family time is very important to me and I wouldnt want to spend the rest of my life in the office either.
What should I do? is law as a career worth it? if you had to start over, would you do it?
Looking for advice from somebody who's been in the business/practive for some time now and from those who are still in school. How is it like? What stereotypes are broken? are you happy?
I am pushing 26 years old if anything, healthy male with a really good work ethic.
Thanks!

Finally got to Sherwood v. Walker
Never thought the sentence "Replevin for a cow" would make me laugh. Funny what sleep deprivation can do to you.

Fucked for finals?
I got competant on my midterms (B+-A-) but I feel like since I studied so hard those the last 3 weeks of studying current material has taken a nose dive. For example, I understand the concepts of civ pro rules 11 thru like 37 but I can’t remember what each is for the life of me. I feel like my cup has overflowed.
I’m doing my readings, answering questions in class correctly, but I usually need my notes to answer them. I’m so worried about finals now.

laptop or handwritten notes in class, what are you doing this semester
started on laptop and i'm second guessing it. typing makes it way too easy to just transcribe everything the prof says. for people who switched either way, did it change how much you actually remembered when you started outlining

My professor gave us 2 previous exams. Im a 2L and have never built an outline outward from practice exams, has anyone done this? any tips and tricks?

2L and 3L, what's your secret sauce to ace 1L Fall final exam and get an A?
Start practice essays early? Start multiple choice early on Quimbee? Go to office hours? For all the A-ers, what did you do to get your As? For Non-A-ers, what's your regret looking back?

My professor passed away.
She was the first faculty member I felt comfortable building a relationship with because I struggle with networking generally. But she witnessed my work and pursued me. I had just met with her a little over a week ago where she eagerly agreed to be an active participant in helping me secure a clerkship after graduation. She gave me incredibly valuable intel, actionable steps, and a plan to move forward together. Now she’s gone. And I am devastated.

Should I send a follow up email after sending my resume?
3L applying for public interest jobs that open applications early. I sent my application through email as this particular organization says to do. I’m used to getting back a “we received your application” email. It’s been a couple of weeks. Is it appropriate to send something? If so, what should I say?

Legal secretary course
Hi all. Question to those of you who have done the legal secretary course with the Law society. How practical is it? Do law firm look for that course in job applications? I have done general legal studies and now a bit hesitant about the legal secretary course. Would apreciate any info.

How to bounce back after bad midterm (1L)
I feel so silly for being so upset because it is literally ungraded. But to me I read it like there are kids in the class who are naturally just doing well already and since it is curved, how on earth could I possibly perform better than them on the real exam?
Did people significantly improve from midterm to final? And how did you will this into existence? Sometimes I highkey feel like its just a skill / IQ gap and some people are just meant to finish at the top.
And do students usually see significant improvements in the second half of the semester / right before the exam?

I think law school has permanently damaged our ability to receive a normal email
Our Civ Pro professor sent an email yesterday that said:
"Tomorrow we'll spend a little more time on personal jurisdiction before moving on."
That was the entire substantive content.
Within ten minutes our section group chat had produced approximately seven competing interpretations.
"Does this mean PJ is heavily tested?"
"Maybe people did badly on the practice question."
"Why would she say a little more time specifically?"
"She wouldn't email us unless it mattered."
Someone went back through the syllabus to calculate whether we were technically behind schedule. Someone else found something the professor said in September and tried to reconcile the two statements like they were conflicting circuit opinions.
Then one person finally wrote, "Guys maybe she just wants to spend a little more time on personal jurisdiction."
Silence.
Obviously absurd. Far too textualist.
I've noticed we do this with everything now. Professor moves an assignment by one day? Exam implications. TA says "focus on the big picture"? Cryptic warning. Career services sends "friendly reminder"? Three people immediately wonder whether they individually screwed something up.
A professor cancelled class because he was sick earlier this semester and someone genuinely asked whether we should still know the cancelled material for the final.
I came to law school expecting to learn how to find hidden meaning in complicated language. I did not expect the collateral damage to be losing the ability to accept the sentence "I am sick, class is cancelled" at face value.
At this point if a professor emailed "Have a nice weekend" I'm fairly certain somebody would ask whether weekends are on the exam.

Struggling to make friends as a current 1L
Hi everyone! Hoping you all have some advice.
I’m a 1L, and I’m really struggling to make friends. I’m friendly and I talk to a lot of people, but I merely feel like an acquaintance. There’s an established friend group that I get along really with, but I can’t help but feel like I’m kind of on the outs and “intruding” on them.
It’s like I’m not left out but I’m not that included, if that makes sense. Everyone is always nice to me and we joke around and stuff but they’re not texting me outside of school or inviting me to bar review when they all show up together etc etc, so that’s just the frustrating part. I know it isn’t being done maliciously and instead is more subconsciously. I struggled my last 2 years of undergrad with the same thing, so I think that’s why it’s hitting me so hard right now.
I feel like I’m always the first one to reach out to people, but I never get invited to plans anywhere and there’s been multiple occasions where people have made plans right in front of my face. I didn’t know anyone going into this semester, and I’m feeling pretty dejected and hopeless that I won’t be able to find friends. I’m really struggling and feeling like I don’t belong here.
