Character Discussion - General Rory and Richard vs Emily and Lorelai

why was Lorelei always paired with emely, while Rory with Richard. We esp. see this when Richard asks Rory to be his groomsmen and Emily immediately pulls Lorelai to be her bridesmaid

r/GilmoreGirls • • 4h ago

General Discussion It bugs me how Richard was so cold to Lorelai as soon as she said she needed to go back to her job. She was so helpful to him.

Character Discussion - General Brian is an underrated character

Post image

Honestly this round of GG is making me love Brian! It’s obviously nerdy and geeky but that is one of the reasons why he’s great.
I just watched the episode where the band goes to the Kim’s Lunar New Year dinner and it’s awesome he cared enough to learn about Korean culture before the dinner. He’s an underrated side character & should be talked about more

General Discussion Why is this rewatch making me so sad

So I watched it all growing up (me and Rory were two years apart in school), and since then have rewatched the whole series, plus AYITL nearly annually....often kinda hate watching because there is much to criticize lol. But idk if its the headspace I'm in, or the season, or nostalgia or what, but I just finished "Summer" and it's making me so sad.

I think I wish they never made AYITL. Their stagnation is such a bummer, and everyone has aged yet nothing has changed and 2016 was also by far the worst year of my life and maybe being back in that year is not good for me!

Blah!

General Discussion Paris Gellar actually is the GOAT.

Ok, I watched Gilmore Girls when I was in high school and I thought Paris was a complete nutcase. Overly competitive, abrasive, extremely intense. I was sick and rewatched a few episodes and I honestly think Paris is a favorite character.

She knew what she wanted and was extremely determined to find her way. Granted, she was a little insane about Harvard but there was a lot more family pressure that was put on her. The whole "generations of Gellars went to Harvard," etc. She wasn't anti-social- she had friends and could sense people's nonsense. Hence her and Francy not getting along. Also, calling Rory out for being crazy to drop out of Yale.

Am I the only person who actually thinks Paris is kind of the hero of the show?

OS Discussion How would Lane had turned out if she didn't have Lorelai and Rory for close friends?

I feel like Lorelai and Rory were a huge reason why Lane got to have a somewhat normal adolescence. Rory gave Lane someone she could be herself around while Lorelai's home was her safe place where she could talk to someone about her interests.

Critical Character Discussion The max Medina proposal

So I’m rewatching this show for the millionth time and just made it to the max 1000 yellow daisy proposal. And let me tell you. This is the worst proposal in television history!!!!!

You propose to someone and you’re not even in the room. Like what on earth is that!!!!!!?????? TERRIBLE!

But go ahead and try to find me a worse one. I dare you. Convince me I’m crazy.

Edit: Hey everyone I know this is a Gilmore girls channel but I meant is there a worse proposal on any television show in the known universe. This is the level of hatred I’m trying to convey. Also thanks for the comments.

Character Discussion - General Never realized how annoying Rory is in “How Many Kropogs to Cape Cod?”

I’m in the middle of my annual rewatch and this year, I cannot stand her in this episode. The incessant rambling of facts about Mitchum. Pressing Logan for info when he’s obviously uncomfortable. The complete awkward mess she is when she’s at the office. I get she’s supposed to be doe-eyed, but yikes. Usually it doesn’t bother me, but this year, I’ve been more irritated with Rory on the whole than years past. She’s never been my favorite character, but now she’s making her way towards the bottom.

OS Discussion I wonder if Pennilyn Lotts husband and kids ever found out about the lunches and how that went for her?

Richard said she never told her husband either. I wonder if he ever found out and they fought?

It'd be hilarious if Emily told him.

General Discussion love how affectionate he is

I feel like Logan was the best with showing affection. Jess and Rory really just made out, and Dean was just sorta lurking over her majority of the time.

I like Logan’s cheek/hand/head kisses to Rory, the way he is always touching her somehow, always leaning towards her. I enjoy watching them be all lovey dovey in this way.

General Discussion What elements of GG do you wish you could find in another show?

I know there will never be anything exactly like how this show, but if you could recreate a show similar to this, what elements would be most important to you? What would you prefer to do without?

For me, I most want a show with a relationship vibes between mother and daughter, of course, but also the warmth and eccentricities of the town. I also love that the characters are flawed. I hate when you watch something and their flaws are so minor that it makes them unrealistic.

I could do without the intentional "misunderstanding" of each other. I feel like if they went to therapy, 80% of the animosity could be avoided. The other thing I CAN NOT stand is the homophobia/fat phobia.

General Discussion I love their playful side.

I like it when she notices him and quietly goes to him. Make him accept his part of work and that he did care about Luke. Jess being Jess obviously refuses to acknowledge but Rory knows better than that. She knows how to make him say the truth.

Later she teases him and tells him "You facilitated it, you made it happen, so I guess that means that you're officially part of our town now," she playfully trapped him. He pretends to hate the idea. Tuff guy who only does secret magic tricks in front of Rory. 👀

I love this episode Because it's full of LXL and JXR scenes. Fav episodes fr 🙂‍↔️

Also, underated Rory's outfit fr.

oh my god it is one of my favourite episodes!!
“58 seats and 62 koreans” with everyone legging it to the church is one of my favourite scenes.
everything about the episode is so cute even the buddhist wedding, i wish i was able to understand korean to understand what was being said by the grandma too, ive tried using google translate but it was no help at all.
also zach being obsessed with the robe is quite funny oh and kirk being jealous of the yummy bartenders flirting with lulu.

General Discussion How much would the world's biggest pizza for Lorelai's birthday would have cost?

I was just wondering if anyone has any theories on how much it would have cost, and who paid for it. Or would it have been a community gift?

I just noticed I can't remember any scenes where Rory talks to Liz directly. Do they ever interact on screen 🤔

General Discussion Lane and her mom Mrs. Kim as mother and daughter had the best character development in the series and A Year in the Life imo

imo I think Mrs. Kim and Lane had the best mother daughter character development in the series and AYITL. When you think about how their relationship started with Lane hiding her entire life and personality from her mother and Mrs. Kim being so controlling it's a miracle how far they came by the end of season 7.

What I appreciate is most of that relationship consistently progress instead of regressing. Once Mrs. Kim accepts Lane for who she is and accepting her independence, the writers don't keep dragging them back into the same conflicts for drama.

Their relationship evolves.

General Discussion Favorite Luke Rants

Post image
151 Upvotes

Luke famously has some great rants throughout the series run. In rewatching this year, I'm realizing how many of my favorite Luke scenes come from season 2. What are some of your favorite Luke rants?

S2 E17 - He was a jerk! I was cutting Louie slack out of respect for my dad, but the man was rotten and mean and selfish all his life! For God's sake, he's even selfish in death! Other people would have loved to have those baseball cards. I would have loved to have those baseball cards! He's got Lou Gehrig's rookie card, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, tons of others!

But no. My uncle, King Tut, has to take all of them to the afterlife!

General Discussion drunk dean in s4 e4 Spoiler

i'm doing my first rewatch and i can't believe dean was marrying someone who he wasn't in love with.. why would you do that to yourself and to lindsay? i felt so sad for her when dean was talking about how he misses rory. it's unfair to both of them and the marriage is doomed from the beginning. i'm so not looking forward to you know what happening between dean and rory..
