Discussion Is This Overkill?
It's a Dream Machines RT5090-16NA31 with two 2,600RPM 140mm fans strapped to the cooler, and the laptop itself floating on a cooling pad?

I'm thinking of buying asus rog strix g16
There's few options and in some of them i saw 300hz screen
Now I'm a esports title player..
I mostly play valorant
My current laptop is stupid hp envy x360 which has only 60hz screen
So it's going to be a big upgrade for me
Should i go directly for 300hz?
I have tried 165hz before in gaming cafes.
But never above that.
Any other 300hz screen users?
What's ur take on this?

Budget: <2500usd Country: Australia Use Case: Mixed Preferred Specs: Varied Notes: Considering a Legion Pro 5i Gen 10, primarily for trading, but mulling over JUST how excessive the specs are and whether they're justified as a longer term, future proof purchase. So its a 2 part discussion - trading requirements plus future proof evaluation.
Specs: Intel Ultra 9 290HX, RTX 5070 12GB, 32GB DDR5 RAM (2x16), 1TB SSD for just under ~$2,100usd
I'll be running the usual set of software/programs - broker platform, multiple charts of multiple timeframes across multiple external monitors, scanners, and other applications simultaneously.
Yes, I realise these specs are probably BEYOND my immediate needs, but I'm looking for something that will comfortably last several years with plenty of headroom. My thinking is that buying something merely sufficient today could be a false economy if I outgrow it and need to replace it sooner. I'd rather invest in a capable machine upfront than potentially spend a similar amount buying twice.
That said, I don't want to spend unnecessarily on performance I'll never use even with the headroom. Something thats immediate off the top of my head is the dedicated gpu always taking some power. Definitely am overlooking more things.
Is this genuinely overkill, or does spending more upfront make sense for longevity? What would you consider a sensible middle ground?
does a prebuilt desktop seem more practical then with this price range?
I'll ask this question to the guys on the trading subreddit but wanted to ask this here too.
Thank guys

Budget: 600€ (second hand)
Country: Germany
Uses: Gaming and digital art , possibly 3D modelling
Preferred specs: 16"+ and 144hz would be awesome and without overheating issues?
Notes: yeah i know i'm asking for a lot. but it doesn't need to be the most fancy high end shit with 400TB of RAM and RTX 9472 Moonwalk edition or whatnot lmao. the most graphic intense shit i play is WoW and maybe some Assasin's Creed n stuff.

Budget: 1000 USD
Country: Colombia
Use Case: Gaming and School
Preferred Specs: 14” inch, mostly no idea but open to anything that fits good on a backpack
Notes: Zero experience on PC gaming before
Hey! So, as the title says, I'm looking for a laptop that's good for both uni work and gaming. I've never had a laptop before and since I moved to study abroad I don't have a desktoo so I thought it would be nice to tackle both my student requirements and gaming pleasure at the same time. Regarding uni, I mostly needed for apps like word, canva and for presentations, I'm studying a social science so I don't need something heavy on specs, and I highly doubt I will fill the space with just papers, books and such.
I prefer something small, like 14 inch or something that can fit well in my backpack. A good battery would be good but not a must, I'm okay if it gives me just a couple hours of life in case I can't use it plugged. My budget is around 1000 USD.
I'm thinking on playing mostly indie games like Disco Elysium, Dispatch, The Precinct; also games like XCOM EW, Minecraft, Civ., Football Manager; and while I would like to have the chance to play something like Baldur's Gate 3, the new Spider-Man games or the Persona saga, 1 get that those are more demanding games and might increase the cost of the laptop so is not a must.
Now, th, I have no idea about PC gaming at all since I've been a console gamer for my whole life so honestly any advice or suggestions you could give me would be great. I just got my eyes set on a Acer Nitro Core i5 CI5 13420H 16GB RAM SSD 512GB RTX 3050 6GB
15.6 (I just copied and pasted the full name because I have no idea which details are relevant) that due to a discount is right on my budget so I would like to know if this is something good or if you have any other suggestions.
I would love to read your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks for reading me too. Take care :D

Budget: Sub 600$ CAD used preferably
Country: Canada
Use Case: School and gaming, Modded Minecraft, geometry dash, marvel rivals other relatively low demanding games nothing crazy
Preferred Specs: 16g of ram. I don’t know much about specs
Notes: just want something light that I can take around pretty easily and won’t break the bank for a used laptop. Thanks

For context I am looking at financing to purchase either of these, the 7 pro has a lower upfront cost I can afford right now. The 9i has a much higher upfront cost and it will take me a month to save for it.
What I want to know is what are the big differences between the models and 5080 vs 5090 in these specific models.
Something I notice is the 7 has DDR5 listed as the ram whereas the 9i doesn’t have that label anywhere on the page, is it safe to assume it is?
I couldn’t find a 32gb version of the 7 pro that was on this financing deal otherwise the price difference would’ve made me pull the trigger - but the 9i is about £1000 more.
Any owners who have issues with either would be a blessing to hear from. Sorry if it seems like a stupid question I am new to the heavy duty laptop space.

I have a Acer nitro v5 with an i5 13 and a rtx 4050 with 8gb of ram, i normally play cs2 and minecraft but every 2 or 3 months the laptop starts decreasing in performance, it pass from 170 fps on cs2 to 120 average and stuttering that downs it to 60 fps, the same with minecraft, i play with shaders and it runs at 150 fps normally but after a time it downs to 120 fps max and so much stuttering and downs to 50 fps, and i need to reset and erase everything to it come to normally again. I dont know why that keeps happening, i am very careful with no dowloading random things, pirate games or programs but it keeps happening what should it be?? help please :c

Hey everyone!
I’m a Civil Engineering student looking for a reliable laptop that can handle my university workload and last me for the next few years. I will mostly use it for 2D/3D modeling and rendering (AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D) and some occasional gaming on the side.
Here are my main details/preferences:
Budget: Around 1000 Euros (approx. 5000 RON).
Country: Romania
GPU: I would really prefer a build with the new RTX 5050 to keep it somewhat future-proof. However, if you think an RTX 4060 (8GB) makes much more sense for my budget and use case, I’m open to it!
Preferences: Good build quality and decent cooling are important since I'll be carrying it to classes. I'd like to avoid MSI laptops if possible.
I know the 5000 series just launched and prices might be a bit rough right now, but what models do you guys recommend keeping an eye on?
Thanks in advance for the help!

I do software dev during the day and game at night on the same machine. Lately I've been running local LLMs for coding help, and they chew through VRAM fast. My current laptop has an RTX 4070 with 8GB VRAM. Games run fine, but loading even a 7B model while keeping a game paused in the background usually triggers out of memory errors.

For $700 I got this ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 2021 with a Ryzen 9 5900HS, 8GB soldered DDR4-, upgraded with a 16GB stick of DDR4 to make 24GB total (planning on buying a 32GB stick soon), an RTX 3070, and 2TB of NVMe storage. Very good condition, LCD bezel needs replacing, battery getting replaced as well. Parts for this laptop aren’t as expensive as I thought they would be.

Budget: up to 4400€, but I'd like to spend as little as possible (I still need to buy monitor, keyboard, mouse and cooling stand)
Country: Italy
Use Case: Mixed. Work (multiple VMs, local LLMs, parallel jobs, robotics policy training/simulation) plus gaming. Needs to last 6-8 years
Preferred Specs: 16-core AMD (Ryzen 9 HX) or another CPU with more than 8 strong cores, RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, 32GB RAM or more, upgradable SSD
Notes: I'm leaning towards the 5080 only if it comes with a CPU with more than 8 strong cores. Is the 5080's extra VRAM worth it over the 5070 Ti for this kind of workload? Thermals under sustained load matter too.
