**/r/DJs NEW RULES** Please read before posting Spoiler

New /r/DJs Rules.

Top rule - BE NICE.

  • Please try to be polite, friendly and helpful when commenting.
  • Trolling, slapfights, general assholery is not encouraged and it also goes without saying that racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic posts and language will not be tolerated at all.

Moderation policy

  • /r/DJs is not a big sub. We tend to encourage discussion and engagement first and foremost. There will be times posts that are seemingly against the sub rules will be left up because the discussion in the comments is informative and engaging. This is generally more for when a post breaking (certain) rules was missed and the community has already heavily engaged in discussion. If you see posts breaking the rules, reporting them will help us remove them earlier.
  • remember to search - lots of questions tend to be asked multiple times and plenty of answers are given in the archives
  • remember that if you are a regular user, newer users are allowed to discuss the same things if it's not overly-frequent. Just because something was discussed 3 months ago doesn't mean users can't have another conversation about it.

Please ensure you are posting to the correct subreddit

  • /r/DJs is generally for more experienced/professional DJ discussion. There is an entire subreddit dedicated to learning DJing and is filled with experienced DJs willing to spend time helping people out.

Any and all beginner questions and posts should be made in /r/Beatmatch.

Beginner questions include posts that start with:

  • “I’m new at this”
  • “I want to get into DJing”
  • “I just started”
  • etc.

And includes anything basic like:

  • “What controller/headphones/speakers should I buy?” (within reason - someone experienced looking for higher end gear or looking for real world feedback on pro-level stuff is fine).
  • “What program should I use?”
  • “How do I use this effect?”
  • “Is beat matching really important?”
  • “Why the hate for sync?”
  • etc.

Any beginner posts here will be deleted.

DJ Setup pictures belong in /r/DJsetups.

  • There will be some exceptions - some rare or classic booths or extraordinary setups will stay up, but if you want to post a picture of your DDJ 400 and KRK Rockits, your Technics 1200s and DDJ S9, or a standard CDJ NXS setup that we've all seen, please post to the appropriate sub.

Meme/Humor/crappy image posts belong in /r/DJsCircleJerk.

  • This includes the low effort, "djs be like dis” - stupid picture - type posts and the like.

Mixes

  • Most mix posts will be deleted.
  • Short routines, showcasing of interesting technique, and videos that shows off the poster doing something cool is fine. We will also allow high profile posts - say if a regular user gets a feature mix on DJCity or a Serato sponsored set.
  • Sets from high profile DJs like boiler room or festivals sets is allowed.
  • DJs who want to share mixes can post in /r/mixes or a weekly mix thread that we will be starting soon.

Gig pictures/Stories

  • We're starting a new weekly sticky every Monday specifically for gig pictures and stories. We've been seeing a lot more of these posts and while they tend to be heavily upvoted, they also end up just being a picture of some DJ hunched over a setup with a bunch of back-patting in the comments that clutters up the sub. Any posts of this nature will be deleted and the user will be directed to the weekly Sticky thread.

Pirating music/software

Here at /r/DJs we firmly believe in attaining your music legally - whether it's via purchaing, streaming, or legitimate record pools.

  • Asking where to get pirated music will result in a ban
  • Giving suggestions on where to pirate music - including youtube rippers will result in a ban
  • using coded language to hint at pirating music will result in a ban
  • we don't care if you're "not a professional" or just "doing this for fun"

The following topics are against sub rules and will be deleted:

  • Self-promotion posts including mixes, tunes, events, companies, competitions, etc. The one exception we may allow are open deck nights that members of /r/DJs can attend.
  • For-sale posts
  • Obvious spam for youtube channels/gig logs/blogs/advertisements from members who have no participation in the sub. If people are regular posters on this sub and have a video/service/etc they wish to share, we will allow it initially, although regular spam of it will not be tolerated.
  • Posts asking “what should I play for this gig?” This is a sub for experienced DJs, if you need to ask the internet what to play for a gig, you probably shouldn't have taken the gig. General music discussion is absolutely fine.
  • Spotify playlist posts

PLEASE REPORT posts and comments that violate the above rules or just suck. Thank you!

RIP Gemini PMX-18 (1990s–2026) 🪦🎚️

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow DJs, vinyl enthusiasts and distinguished members of the congregation…
It is with great sadness (and a slight ringing in my ears) that I announce the passing of my beloved Gemini PMX-18.

My first proper mixer. The one that taught me to mix, abuse a crossfader in the name of scratching, and occasionally convince myself I was the next DJ EZ.

She served me faithfully throughout the 90s and beyond. Through countless mixes, questionable transitions, and some truly unforgettable nights.

Then life kicked in. Responsibilities arrived. The decks were packed away, and she was placed into retirement. Preserved in the archives, awaiting the day she’d be called back into service.

Well, brothers and sisters… that day finally came.
I dusted her off, connected everything up, fired up the 1210s, and prepared for our glorious reunion.

And lo and behold…

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. 🔊

A high-pitched hum straight from the gates of hell.

After some troubleshooting, the verdict was in. The old girl had finally sung her last tune. Unfortunately, it was in a frequency nobody wanted to hear.

So today, we gather to honour her memory.
Say a prayer for the souls she served, the ears she blessed, the dancefloors she seduced, and the neighbours she undoubtedly pissed off.

May she be laid to rest with dignity, her faders forever at unity, her channels eternally open.

And should the day come when the waste collector carries her away in the back of his mighty chariot, may he treat her with the respect she deserves. 🪦

But as one chapter closes, another begins…

A new lady has entered the booth.

Sleek. Sexy. Analogue. Ready for action.

Brothers and sisters, I present to you…

The Allen & Heath Xone:24. 🔥

May her filters be smooth, her faders be faithful, and her soul serve me and the crew for many glorious years to come.

In the name of the vinyl, the mixer and the holy bassline.

AMEN. 🙏🎶

Now, fellow DJs… who else still remembers their first mixer? And is yours still alive, or has it joined the great DJ booth in the sky?

Human Ear Fatigue After Listening

How long does it take for a normal human to feel their ears are tired after listening or DJing to a set for hours? Like how normal is normal?

Archway sound system

I’m moving my business into a railway archway and will be hosting events here and will need a solid sound system. Not one I’m massively clued up on.

Is a decent sized space 14m long and 7.5m wide, had been thinking to go with a pair of Sub zero c10a’s as the main speakers further to the back of the unit with a pair of SubZero SZS-P5Y 5" mounted to the walls nearer the front.

Being able to control the system via Bluetooth is key and we will still need it to interface with decks/ laptops. Had been looking at an Adastra RM244V but feel it’s abit pricy for my needs.

Base wise I had been looking at an Alto Professional TS12S Which would be sat further into the unit along with the main speakers.

Any recommendations or anything like that greatly appreciated 👍

Budget - ideally not much higher than this kit which totals just under £1.2k
Location - south east London
Use - will be used for day to day music playing and events

Recording set/mix with Zoom H1 Essential

Hey everyone, I want to record a mix with the sound coming from my Vestax PCV-275 mixer.

I’ve got a Zoom h1e recorder that I had previously bought for field recordings and was wondering if it was good enough for this or if I needed to buy a different kind of equipment.

First time DJing party Gone Wrong

Was DJing my first party and actually had the crowd lit tonight until two idiot girls spilled a drink all over my computer. Computer almost immediately started glitching and running wild. Booted back up and ran for about 15 minutes before completely going rogue. Of course I kept trying to run it and after looking it up thag seems like a huge mistake. Won’t even turn on now. Not sure what to do or even how to handle it — I need my computer for class on monday 😭

How does split cue work on the Xone 92?

I have a question about the Split Cue function on the Xone:92.

When Split Cue is enabled and all channel CUE buttons are turned OFF, what happens to the headphone output?

  • Does the MASTER signal play through both ears?
  • Or does it remain in the right ear only, leaving the left ear silent?

I own a Xone:96, which automatically returns the MASTER signal to both ears in this situation.

I'm wondering if the Xone:92 behaves the same way.

I'd appreciate it if someone with a Xone:92 could confirm this.

Thanks!

Does the anxiety ever go away?

Been playing out a fair bit recently..im primarily playing on vinyl: disco, boogie, funk, house is my favourite kind of set to play.

Did 4 hours vinyl only this weekend. Dancefloor was still full until 3.30am. Clapped off. Bar happy. Pretty girls fluttering their eyelashes at me. People saying im blowing their mind.....

And all I can do is cringe at my bad transitions. The miscommunication i had with that 1 punter. The bad song selection that confused the crowd...

I'm anxious because a lot of my friends/acquaintances didn't come. And many that have come once don't come twice ("does that mean my last gig was shit?!?!?"). Anxious when people go out for a smoke. Or when they stop dancing...

Its like..I don't trust myself and I need feedback to solidify my ego or something idk. I just needed to get this out there and ask if anyone else deals with the same and if there's anything i can do to solve it?

QSC K10.2 vs K12.2 for bar and wedding DJing?

Hey guys

Looking for opinions from people running QSC gear.

I currently DJ a weekly bar gig with about 75-100 people. Maybe about 20 people dancing but mostly people are just hanging out. My music is mostly hip-hop, R&B, Afro, and Latin, so there's a lot of low end.

My setup: QSC CB10 on a pole over a KS112 sub, mono.

It's not bad, plenty loud, but I do find that the CB10's limiter kicks in a couple of times a night. The Sub is amazing though, maybe only ever limited once when I played DNA by Kendrick Lamar.

Anyway, with the CB10 limiting, I was considering upgrading to a K10.2 or K12.2 for the top, and eventually adding a second one to make a pair that I could use for weddings and bigger events.

I have a 150-guest wedding coming up and plan to do more of them. I'd prefer to run the pair without a sub if it holds up. If I need a sub, I'll use my KS112, and for bigger events I'll rent a bigger sub.

In terms of the CB10, I'm either keeping it for ceremonies and cocktail hours, or selling it and getting an Electro-Voice Everse 8 for that job.

Just a few questions:

K10.2 or K12.2? Is the 12" worth the extra weight and cost for a pair running without a sub? How many people can I comfortably manage with the 10s in an indoor wedding like the one I have coming up? I also heard that the 10s have wider dispersion so I’m factoring that in.

Which reverb to get for a Xone 92

Hey, I've been looking to get a reverb for my Xone 92 for some time and since there are so many to choose from (Styron blue sky, teile revolo, eventide h9/h90 etc.) I wanted to get recommendations. I would like to spend maybe a max. of 300-400€ on it and am looking to get it second hand. I play hypnotic techno mostly.

Did a gig tonight with Serato on iOS, AMA

I decided to try out serato on my iPad tonight. It's a smaller nightclub, around 500 person capacity. I typically play on cdj-3ks and a djm900nxs2 mixer, but I brought in my backup flx10 and plugged in my 2022 M2 iPad pro with 8 gb ram and 256 gb hdd.

The interface is fine, easy to see waveforms and track information, but key is very tiny, hard to read. Scrolling through my playlists was great with the touch screen, I like it a lot compared to the ol' nipple-twist pioneer scroll knob.

The output from the board was strangely low compared to running off my laptop. Typically running the flx10 with my laptop, I have the channel trims low, and at parity from the channels which gets me to parity at the master channel if I have it set to "0db" on the master trim pot. With the iPad, I had to be running around +3-6 db on the individual channels to be at parity on the master channel. Not a huge issue, but pretty weird. I asked some friends how our sounded on the floor, and they said it "sounded normal"

The big issue I ran into was when scrolling very fast through larger Playlist (300+ tracks) I had two instances of audio dropout. They were split second, but I wasn't particularly happy about it. I was also running an "iPad cooler" that I attached magnetically to the iPad to prevent any thermal throttling, so this was an even bigger surprise that I had this issue. My guess is that 8 gb of ram just isn't enough, so i am planning on buying a new iPad with 16gb of ram and trying this again.

All in all, I really liked the form factor, I loved getting the laptop out of the booth, and i loved the streamlined interface. If not for the two audio dropouts, it was a perfect 4 hour run. I liked it enough that I'm willing to attempt this again with a new iPad

Regarding pitch and time

I saw a comment saying that pitch n time does a much better job of maintaining the key of the music when changing the BPM. Could someone who has used it share their opinion on this?

Hype charts/Tailored leaderboards

I’ve recently started getting gigs where the promoter expects me to play to the crowd, rather than booking me for the style and energy I bring. This has tested my library, as I usually stick around the house/garage/UKG niche.

I’ve survived so far, but going forward, I don’t want to keep playing the same songs over and over, so I’m looking to diversify.

Are there any tools, sites or apps that let you filter tracks by popularity within a specific niche? For example, Garage Top 10, SoundCloud Top 10 in the UK, House Top 100, etc.

Beatport doesn’t have the filters I need, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Rane Sixty Four Win11 Driver

I've been on a mission with Claude to make all my music gear work flawlessly across generations.

Have always been angry at Rane for abandoning the Sixtyfour so soon after its release, and I'm pleased to announce that you can now use your awesome mixer with the latest versions of Windows.

I have it running through Ableton 12 right now as a control surface and audio interface.

Due to something called a EULA I can't actually share the driver files even for a product that has been completely abandoned by its manufacturer so I will be putting scripts and a guide on github for those of you brave enough to download the driver from archive.org and get it all setup.

If you have even the basic sub to GPT or Claude you can point it at that page and it will do the rest for you.
