Shedding help

Post image
4 Upvotes

My 7g crested gecko has a sleeve of stuck shed on the bottom half of her tail. It's been there for 2 days. (I finally managed to get a piece off her toe!).

I tried a 20-minute paper towel sauna, but she is way too flighty and stressed to let me gently roll it off with a wet Q-tip.

I put her back in her tank, boosted the humidity. If it's still stuck tomorrow, what is the best hands-off way to help her? Is it safe to dab on mineral oil or a shedding aid?

Help with stuck shed on toe

Hi, this is Nico! I’ve had him for 11 years with no issues with shedding until now. I noticed what I think is a bit of leftover shed on his toe tonight. I laid down wet paper towel in a container and left him there for 15 minutes and then tried to use wet Q tips to peel the shed off. He let me mess with it for a few minutes but then started chirping so I put him back and figured I’d try again tomorrow. I’m hoping it comes off when he’s climbing tonight but any tips are greatly appreciated as I don’t want it to harm him. Thanks in advance!

Egg-laying behavior?

Husbandy info before I ask my question: I have a 38g, 17 month old female crestie who's been with me since she was 3 months old. She lives in a bioactive terrarium with a nano CHE connected to a thermostat. My house gets chilly during fall and winter. I mist her enclosure twice a day during the dry season (now). I boost it up to around 80% at night and by morning it's in the 50s, sometimes high 40s. So I give it a lighter misting and let it drop to the 40s or low 50s before misting again at the end of the day. Over the summer I switched her from daily feeding to feeding 3-4x weekly with dusted bugs max once weekly. She is still growing. She gained 3g this past month.

The last two or three days she seemed restless. Almost like she couldn't find a comfy place to sleep during the day. Today she slept on the bottom of her enclosure in the dirt, and it looks like she might have made herself a little gecko shaped dip where she spent the day. The lights are out now and she's up and about at the top of her enclosure.

My question is, is this possible egg laying behavior? Is she the right age and is it the right season? She is my first and only crestie child, so this is all new to me! Or could she possibly be adjusting to seasonal changes with the reduced daylight hours and the slightly lower temps? She was still just a bebe at this time last year, so I don't really have historical behaviour for comparison. Thoughts appreciated!

Side injury?

I haven’t taken him out for several days, took him out today and noticed this 😭😭😭
Does it look like a scab? Did he injure himself in his tank somehow? I’m not going to mess with it and let him be. Bonus of him being cute in the last picture.

advice please!

i got a new gecko not too long ago, around a week. He’s almost 3 months old and he hasn’t touched his food once. I was able to hand feed him a tiny bit a day or two ago but he hasn’t eaten since and it was barely anything, maybe a few licks. I know it’s still stressful for him but I was wondering if there’s any suggestions to try to get him to eat a bit? i’m starting to get worried. I’ve got two spots for food around his enclosure and i’ve offered three flavors already in case he’s just picky.

hi! i recently got my new crestie hotpot, she was very adventurous the first few days but has since just started hiding away . the last 2 days she’s found a crevice and stayed there. She won’t eat the food the shop gave me voluntarily that she’d liked ( i know they can be picky) - she’ll give a couple licks if i place on nose / on stick near her face.
she just seems abit lethargic really
- should also mention i have a blink mini cam next to her viv so i can see she hasn’t moved all night either.

1st picture when i got her , 2nd of her now

Considering getting a crested gecko, pls help!

I'm really wanting a crested gecko. I heard that they're not too stressful to care for and a pretty good choice for beginners! Apparently they also aren't too expensive either!! (I haven't done too much research so my bad if I'm wrong on any of these)

I'm pretty forgetful though (I have awful ADHD) so I'm not 100% sure if it's a good idea? (it sounds awesome but I also want to have a animal I can actually care for)

What do I need? What are trusted brands n stuff? Do I need to do any extensive research? Thx!!!

Heat Help!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone, setting up a tall glass tank 45 x 45 x 90 cm for a Crested Gecko in a coldish room during the UK winter, so I’m using an Arcadia 80W Deep Heat Projector (DHP) regulated by an Exo Terra 600W Dimming Thermostat. No plants in yet. As you can see, the top tip of my central branch sits just 80mm from the mesh ceiling, which is a massive burn risk with an 80W bulb. To handle this intense heat safely without sawing down the branch, I plan to move the lamp dome to the far left side and hang it from a wall bracket 10–15 cm (4–6") ABOVE the left-side top mesh to guarantee a strict 30 cm (12") physical safety gap between the bulb and the gecko's climbing zones. I'll map my sensors by pinning the thermostat probe to the left wall 30 cm directly under the bulb (set to 24°C day / 19°C night in Dimming mode), placing a separate thermometer midway down the side glass for true ambient air layers, and tucking a separate hygrometer down low on the far bottom-right floor to monitor the cool, damp retreat. Does this layout and sensor mapping look safe and solid for tackling a freezing British winter in a vertical enclosure without altering the hardscape?

Thanks!

Just came back from a month long leave (animals being taken care of by roommates) and went to clean the poop from her cage. Noticed a bunch of these guys. Are these good bugs or bad bugs??

Also is this mold on her new branch? If so how can I clean it up?

He's always in his coconut when I go to spray his tank at night but I get paranoid that he's secretly out and I just can't see him lmao and worry he'll jump out when I open it to spray it (even tho that's literally never happened once lmfao) so i check the coconut everyday to see if he's in it but it faces the back of the enclosure bc he seems to like it that way so in order to see if he's in there i have to slide my phone between the back of the enclosure and the wall and take a picture. I made an album of these photos bc i have so many and they look goofy lmfao.

Thinking about trading in the 18x18x24 ZooMed Terrarium I just got for the 18x18x36 ZooMed Palladarium to use as a terrarium only. Mesh top and front door ventilation strip. This should still work correct? Figure before I start my bioactive build I better do it right!

This has been such a labor of love, but its finally done (enough) for my little guy to move in. Today ill be setting up his lamps. And also lowkey reworking the roof of it bc I was woken up at 1230 last night to my uncle telling me he was ontop of the OUTSIDE of the enclosure 🄓 Had to eventually bait him out with a dubia to catch him. I guess we fixed it though because the photo of him in his snake plant was when i woke up a little bit ago haha. He likes to sleep in the plants.

New crestie seems more stressed than any of my others when they first arrived

Hey guys, I just welcomed a new addition to my crew so I now have 4 crested geckos! I’ve been keeping them for about four years now, all in bioactive tanks with adequate cover and the necessities. My 3 geckos before the new one all are ā€œhands offā€ pets, since they’re all very nervous with handling. (all were rescues, so came from not so great situations) I’m totally okay with this, but really wanted a gecko I could handle, so I found a reputable breeder near me who prioritizes handling all of her geckos from babies. She’s a sub adult, a beautiful extreme harlequin. I know that all reptiles need a settle in period before handling, and I’m respecting that, but she’s so much more flighty and obnoxious than any of my other geckos were when I first got them. She stayed in the same spot on the ground of the tank for hours last night, despite having lots of vines and cover. I opened the tank this morning to mist, she came out of nowhere and started freaking out, she nose dived into a pile of leaf cover on the ground after seeming like she was frantically searching for something. I was surprised she didn’t drop her tail, especially since she’s been fired up since getting her home late yesterday evening. I can’t believe I’ve been doing it this long, and still feel like I’m doing something wrong. This is also my first female, she’s on a rack with my males, but I have film on the glass so they can’t see each other. Anyways, at what point did you notice your female was truly ā€œsettled inā€? I know the breeder isn’t lying about her being used to human interaction, but maybe I’m just expecting too much too soon.
