Discussion the gunshots are ridiculous

• Upvotes

yeah i know, Cleveland is full of them, i grew up here and im used to it. i live near the Cleveland metropark zoo and on Saturday gunshots were heard from somewhere near the area, my step dad was outside and thankfully he wasnt hurt, but a bullet ended up going through our outside roof (its where our cars are underneath) and it hit his car. he has to get it repaired now and i know it wont be cheap. i know im basically shouting into the void with this but people who randomly shoot guns in the air at night are stupid, because someone is gonna get hurt! my step dad almost got hurt but thank goodness he didn't but its still so scary how the bullet was so close.

Question Places to rollerblade at when it's cold?

• Upvotes

Posting for my partner, he blades a lot but doesn't really have anywhere inside to go when it's cold, wanted to know if there was anything around here that has days for adults to skate/blade, especially if it's later in the day, or if there are any groups to join to at least get people together for it

Crime Watch out for Sky High Group, Contractor

• Upvotes

I know it's been a while since that hail storm came through, but the owner of the company in the title came knocking and got us to go with him, he is out of New Philadelphia, OH. He lied about being registered with our city, he never pulled any permits and there some pretty serious issues with the quality of the work that was done and has ignored those issues, in a call earlier he said he doesn't get permits, we live in the hood, and he wants his final payment now and is threatening to tear it all off the house along with being vulgar and rude to my parents and me.

His google reviews are five stars but he only has 28 reviews and today he claimed he has done over 700 jobs. I have a feeling he is doing something to get negative reviews removed.

If he comes knocking don't trust him to touch your home.

Help a Tourist Man suffering from mental health issues is VIOLENTLY arrested in his own home without a warrant or giving officers permission to enter -- is this legal? There was no judges order, no imminent threat, and He's now in jail for resisting arrest. This seems to violate the 4th amendment.

LOCATION: Ohio , Lake Township of Wood county The closest big city to this is Cleveland. I cannot find help in Toledo.

A mental health call was made on an individual(Ry) with a history of psychiatric hospitalization. The officer seemed to twist the incident from a mental health call into a domestic violence situation to justify an arrest. Wouldn't this violate the 4th amendment?

Around the 11 minute mark the officer lies to the individual and states that Ry's roommate asked him[the officer] to go inside and grab something for him (the roommate). This was untrue. It seemed like the officer did this because he knew he could not go inside in this specific scenario legally without permission. Ry does not grant him permission but the officer tries to grab Ry through the door. WHen Ry Retreats inside, the officer breaks in. Doesn't that violate the 4th amendment?

Ry was out on bail and posted the full bodycam video to youtube. Unfortunately that appears to have placed a bigger target on his back and now hes being aggressively prosecuted rather than receiving the mental health help he needs. Looking at his other videos it appears both his parents may have been diagnosed with bipolar or schizophrenia at some point, so hes very likely to be suffering from the same. He seems like a kind soul dealing with a lot of trauma and no one to help .

Ry is currently in jail for resisting arrest. he also does not appear to have family support or any resources to help

Housing/Apartments Help Me Look?

I need decent housing! Prefer my own place, not really looking to move in with anyone if I can avoid it.

I am in an insane living situation renting from the family member of a friend. Like, even my friend is trying to get the situation with their family member under control bc it's so out of line.

Unfortunately I have some medical issues that complicate where I can live. Right now, I need to stay on the west side. Rocky River, Lakewood, Fairview - all good. Don't prefer cities of North Olmsted or Westlake but the distance works too if there's a good spot.

I really can't have a water damaged living space. Tough with apartments, I know. Single floor units tend to have the least plumbing issues tho. I can't have stairs or elevators that go out all the time. I know we all deal with pests sometimes but bc of an allergic condition I can't play with anything more serious than like, ants. Or I start actually dying pretty quick.

If any of you live in a building you think is reasonably well maintained and safe, lemme know and I will call to see if they have anything available! Of course if you know of a good unit coming up available soon, I wouldn't snub any extra info :)

Not listing a budget bc well... I have a cosigner and I'll figure out the rest. First and foremost I need to get away from the insanity before anything can shake out.

Thx community 🙏 it's a crazy place sometimes, but it's home.

Discussion Thank you, Cleveland. I will always thank this city.

I'm just proud to be here. I had never felt what it was like to have pride in where I live until I moved here. People still tell me I'm crazy all the time when they ask me what brought me here & my response is that I just like it. I just like Cleveland.

And being here has changed me in the ways I'd hoped it would. I think I'm starting to understand the grit of the city. There were times I was so lonely and scared. Being a stranger has been nice because it allowed me to rewrite my own narrative. People only know me for what I share with them, not my past. But for a solid year or so, I felt SO ALONE. 7 hours away from anyone who could help me if I end up stranded or just in a scary situation. I even admitted myself to the psych ward last year when I reached a breaking point. I actually posted here asking for direction during that time. People were kind and helpful, such has been my experience with most things in Cleveland. Kind and helpful Clevelanders, who have overcome their own shit just like I was able to eventually. This city is full of people who shine through the adversity they've overcome. It's inspiring

I had never experienced a real winter, either. Not until I moved up here. I tell myself that the winters are the price I pay for living in a cool place. But dude when I was without a car my first winter here, oooo. I learned real quick how to bundle up. And when I did get transportation back, I learned real quick how to drive in the snow. Lol. You all were also helpful with my winter questions when I posted them a year or two ago as well.

Anyways, I overcame a lot since I moved here simply because I love Cleveland and refuse to leave. It'd have been so easy to pack it up & go back to what I knew. But I wanted to stay in a place that keeps pushing me to grow. A place where I've slowly transitioned from a stranger to a neighbor, a friend, a familiar face, a part of this community.

Coming from a dark red area to a blue city has also been really cool. I can always count on Cleveland to stand up for what's right. I thought it was really neat that Cle showed out for Obama. I also really like how people will post up with signs over the freeway bridges in any weather to make a statement. People in this city will protest. It's nice not being an outlier with my beliefs. I just feel more aligned in a place like this. So yea, I wanted to shout into the void to thank this city for the way it has changed me and my life. And thanks to everyone on this sub that's ever been friendly or helpful. It really meant a lot as I really needed that when I received it.

I hope one day I can contribute to this place the way it has contributed to my personal growth.

Question Does anyone remember the band Mindsnap from Cleveland?

Post image

Does anyone remember the band Mindsnap from Cleveland? They played the 'nu-metal' genre during the early 2000s and released a couple CDs including one called Perceptions Of The Truth. Does anyone have a copy of that CD? I've been looking for one for a while now to archive it completely but I haven't had any luck coming across a copy. Thank you.

Recommendations Restaurants with event space for wedding receptions

My fiancé and I would like to hold our wedding reception at a restaurant’s event space near the westside of Cleveland. It would be on a Saturday evening in the late Spring. We‘re working on the guest list, thinking of inviting 65–80 people. It would just be a dinner at the reception, no DJ/dancing. No specific budget, just looking to get an idea of what restaurants could be possibilities.

I got the jury duty letter to serve this week! My number has not been called yet but I now have a cat who has an infection after getting neutered. The little guy needs medicine and monitoring. My question is- should I try to find someone to pet sit or are sick pets a reason to call in? TIA

Lost/Found Please help! My dog has been lost in Shaker for 4 days!

Brock (aka Broccoli) is a 10 year old, appx 10 lb. male Chihuahua mix. Mostly black, grey muzzle and tan and white chest and belly. He's super skittish and will run if you try to approach him. Missing in the Chagrin Blvd area, the area heading toward the Van Aken district.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EdUX5Jzxf/

https://pet911.org/shaker-heights/lost/dog/usl552911

On Friday 10/23, my husband and I moved from VA to our dream home in Shaker. That evening, one of my beloved pups escaped through a gap we missed in the fence. He's a rescue that we've had for years and he's still super skittish in new situations. He bolted when he got loose, then some well-meaning good Samaritans tried to help grab him, but that just made him run faster and further.

I'm at my wits end. We've walked the area for hours each day, signs are up (and about to run another batch out) and all local police, shelters and animal control have been notified. He's on local Facebook groups and Next Door.

The last time we saw him, he'd crossed Chagrin at Lynnfield. Saturday morning, walking around, several people spotted him around Lomond. No one has spotted him since. We did get a call this morning from someone who thought they saw him on Lomond headed toward Lee, but walking around for several hours and no one confirmed seeing him. The guy did say he thought it was a cat at first, so may not have been him.

I have no idea how far he's gone now and the longer this goes on, the more I'm struggling to remain hopeful. Aside from the hope this morning, no one has seen him since Saturday morning.

If any of you are near Shaker/Warrensville, please be on the lookout! My cintact infirmation is in the postings and I will drop everything to head out immediately for any sightings. Thank you!!

Question I mapped the trails and waterfalls around Greater Cleveland. Locals, what's missing?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I've lived in Cleveland for three years and spend a lot of my free time on the trails here, so I built HoldMyTrack: a free, open-source map that keeps your hikes and rides (from a watch, phone, Strava export or GPX files) and turns them into a fog-of-war map of everywhere you've been.

It also shows trails, bike paths and waterfalls, all from OpenStreetMap, and I'd like help from people who know this area better than I do:

  • Are the waterfalls you know there? Brandywine, Blue Hen, Bridal Veil, the small ones along the Chagrin?
  • Do the trails in Cuyahoga Valley, the Metroparks and Summit Metro Parks match what's on the ground?
  • Anything missing or in the wrong place?

You can look around without signing up: open holdmytrack.com and press "Try the demo", then turn on Trails and Spots in Layers. It's free for everyone, with no paid tiers, no ads, no social feed, and it never reads heart rate or other health data.

Discussion Is UH getting closer to a fix for their cybersecurity incident?

Any insider information would be highly appreciated! I realize even most employees probably don’t even know, but if someone in the know does, it would help. UH management seems to have a set of talking points that are quite vague and it’s been that way since Thursday.

Thanks to everyone at UH for all you do!
