Recommendations Aladdin's founder is co-hosting a Jon Husted fundraiser today with Bobby George's parents at Summer Place. Same owner as Taza, Sittoo's, Forage Public House, Oak Barrel and BOLD.

Just noticed, on the invite floating around. Fady Chamoun, who founded Aladdin's Eatery, is co-hosting a reception for Sen. Jon Husted today, 4 to 5:15 PM, with Bobby George's parents at their restaurant, Summer Place, on Lake Ave. in Lakewood. Tickets run from $150 a person up to $7,000 for "sponsors."

Chamoun's company, Seasoned Brands, also owns Taza, Sittoo's, Forage Public House, The Oak Barrel and BOLD, per his own bio.

For context, Husted took $3,500 from Les Wexner in July 2025, and about 10 weeks later voted against forcing release of the Epstein files.

Aladdin's has been a go-to for a lot of us for years, so this one stings. Not telling anyone what to do. Just figured people would want to know where their money goes.

Aladdin’s bakery on Carnegie is unaffiliated with the eatery!!!!

Cleveland knows all about the George family already. Don't need explaining there.

Trump isn't on the ballot in November, but Trumpism sure is. Early voting in Ohio is open now through November 1st. Vote early and in person if you can, and bring a friend or family member. The sooner the better, because anything can happen: illness, car trouble, a family emergency, or this administration pulling a fast one on DEMOCRACY. Bonus: campaigns can see who has already voted (not how). Once you vote, they take you off their call, text and door-knock lists, and your candidates can put that money and those volunteers toward people who haven't voted yet. Fewer texts for you, more help where it counts.

Recommendations Immigrants of Cleveland: what restaurant serves the most authentic food from your country or culture?

I’m not looking for trendy fusion spots or places that just have good reviews, I want the places where you think, “Yep, this tastes like home.”

Please share: • Your country/region • The restaurant • What dish I absolutely have to order

I’m willing to drive anywhere in Northeast Ohio if it’s worth it!

Recommendations Non maga farm to get beef/chicken?

There is a movement to support the farmers with whom we share values. I’d like to buy .5 or .25 of a cow from a farmer who does not support the orange p3d0. Looking for a recommendation please.

Recommendations My daughter was given a job offer that had this clause...

Post image
467 Upvotes

My daughter was given a job offer for a position at a smaller local company this week, and had me look over the offer / contract since this would be her first office position not associated with an internship.

Ultimately when she tried to talk to them about it, she decided it was best to decline the position - They offered to reduce the required notice to 2 weeks but that she would still forfeit her check.

She described them being pretty insistent that this was common practice and that it seemed like they did not understand why she was concerned about this part of the contract since she was just starting the job - To me it seems like they thought that she should not be concerned if she planned on staying there for a long time. But I have never seen anything regarding withholding a check before and seriously question the legality of it.

Just thought I'd get others opinions on it / see what advice others would give if a younger person just starting out their career was presented with this in their contract.

*Edited to add the guy made some comment about how she was burning the bridge for $60 then she corrected him and said no it says an entire paycheck and he was like oh well $600 then. And then he went on to insist that all of 30ish of their employees have this in their contract...

Recommendations Where do you go in Cleveland on days where you feel everything is meaningless and you just wish to feel alive again?

going through a weird transitional phase in my life and most days (for the last several months) I feel like all i do is eat, sleep, work, repeat and life feels a bit dull and depressing and I’m struggling to find any meaning and just looking for maybe some good spots to go to…preferably somewhere with a good view or good music or just out in nature.

edit- wow thanks for all of the recs! I’ve read through each and every one and I’m putting together a list of places I’d like to visit. My life has just been so bleh after leaving my faith (see post history for more, won’t go into here) and I’ve been struggling to find reasons to continue here.

Recommendations Hazard lights while driving 🤦🏻‍♂️

Post image

going down pearl road by Jack Frost and someone spinning their tires because the plow didn't get anywhere close to the curb. The moron in the other lane is honking at the wheel spinner. Well, the honking moron has hazard lights on, cuts in front of the wheel spinning Dodge Nitro. Nitro is now with hazard lights. Finally get over the 480 bridge and by Rise dispensary and both these morons are weaving around with hazard lights. One goes to Sheetz, the other I forget. Dumbasses. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Wife and I are relocating to CLE and are considering moving to this area.

We’ve heard great things about Hudson (great schools, etc.), but I’m curious about how different Twinsburg, Solon, and Chagrin Falls are.

Greatly appreciate any and all information you’d be willing to share!

Recommendations Ladies, Where Are We Buying Jeans in Northeast Ohio? (Silly Rant on the Great Millennial Pants Crisis or Maybe It's Just Me)

Do my fellow millennials remember how, back in school, there always seemed to be one teacher sporting big teased hair, dark mauve lip liner, bold blush, and skin-tight jeans? She'd look as if she was frozen at some point in the 1980s and then thawed out to assimilate after a 30-year jump in time. I worry I've become the 2010s equivalent.

I should’ve known this was so. I’ve seen thrift store racks jammed full of skinny jeans over the last several years. I just thought the thrifting gods had favored me to let me find so many in my size! The writing has always been there, on the wall, but I covered my winged eyes and pretended not to see it.

Now, I won't give up my winged eyeliner (it’ll be a hit again someday… I just know it), but I am ready to peel off these skinny jeans and pick up some modern pants. I like to believe we cling to styles that first gave us a spark of “Yes! This feels like ME, and this me feels cool.” I’m just not sure I’ll find that in wide-leg jeans.

I know I’m making this more complicated than it needs to be. You’ve gotta believe me, I’ve tried finding my own way among today’s pantscape. I started with Stitch Fix last year. The jeans they sent were comically baggy, which is too much of a psychological leap. From skinnies to barrels, I think I need a bridge between styles. Last week, I tried Amazon. I must’ve looked for hours until I finally found two pairs of jeans that I figured would help bring me into this decade. When they arrived last night, I tried them on and saw they were wide-legged AND cropped. They could’ve used much more length and had a ridiculous ankle-height flare. After feeling like both a giant and a cartoon character, I marched off to the UPS store to return the mocking jeans.

My daughter is in junior high, and she’s got great style. These days, the kids are all about oversized shirts and baggy Hot Topic jeans (also, her generation is into Affliction shirts again, so why haven’t skinnies made their way back into the style cycle?). When I tried on her jeans for research purposes, I felt like an old person trying to be hip. It’s not cool I’m after; it’s something suitable for a woman in her thirties who doesn’t want to look like a cryo-frozen emo (especially when Vans in every shade of the rainbow enter the picture).

I don’t think I’m asking too much; I just need a style that is not too skinny, not too baggy, not too long, not too short, not too dated, not too trendy, not too ‘try hard’ and not too ‘try little.’

Sure, I could stay with the skinny jeans I’ve always known and loved, and even say "screw your pants standards, society!" But I’d like to think of myself as ever-evolving and adaptable, and this is really a challenge of personal development I’m up against.

Anyway, my search for modern pants has left me with more questions than answers so far, but the first one to ask is: Millennial ladies, where the heck are we buying jeans in Northeast Ohio? Looking for real pant-ecdotes and success stories.

Update: The ladies of CLE have spoken! Thank you all so much.

Recommendations If I must eat in Little Italy, where can we go that is actually good?

I am excited to visit Cleveland this weekend, and am looking forward to eating pho and pierogies. My young adult kid is insistent that we eat in Little Italy. Most of the restaurants there look a bit overpriced and not inspiring menu wise. In order to make my offspring happy, I will compromise. Is there something in Little Italy that you love to eat? Is there a really good braciole somewhere? Where can I go that won't feel like a waste of a meal in a great food town?

Recommendations Great authentic places in bad neighborhoods?

Okay, I have a very specific request. I have an itch for "still standing" businesses, especially restaurants and bars located in troubled or borderline neighborhoods. Maybe there is a 100 years old bar or diner in a building you'd think is due for demolition? Or maybe a nice unexpected pocket in an area most people avoid? A hidden gem diner run by a 100 yo grunts? Please share!

My personal favorites on east side:

* Marvin's Hardware at 16001 St Clair Ave. A time capsule hardware store run by an elderly couple with oil lamps and rolls of 50 years old wires in their backroom that they will try to sell as "still good".

* Bill Kap Piano on Euclid Ave in East Cleveland. Amazing old world vibes, sad that I don't need a piano

* E185 pocket north of I90 and my personal favorite place in the area - Gus's Diner One Eight Five

* Stevenson's Bar & Grill on E200

Recommendations Considering Cleveland relocation with young family

Hi all,

My husband is applying for fellowships and his top choice is the Cleveland Clinic along with UPMC in a Pittsburgh. I hear in a lot of ways Cleveland is better than Pittsburgh as far as ease of living, housing and traffic. It would be a two year fellowship and we would be relocating from Scottsdale, AZ. Our kids will be 3 and 1. We are originally from Kansas and are missing the four seasons and Midwest culture. The Phoenix summers/heat are brutal, however we experience 300 sunny days a year and from what I hear, the weather and lack of sun in Cleveland can be rough. We aren’t scared of snow and winter, but how bad is it actually?!

Aside from the weather, is Cleveland a good place to live with a young family? I assume we would live in the east suburbs close to the clinic, looking at Beachwood, Shaker Heights or Cleveland Heights? Where is the best and safest place to live? How are the preschools/daycares? Catholic education and churches are a priority for us. Is there a lot to do with young kids - parks, museums, zoo, playgroups, etc? We are big sports fans and enjoy the outdoors and hiking.

Really just trying to get a picture of what life in Cleveland for two years would be like, as we won’t have a chance to visit before we decide if that’s where we want to move. Thank you in advance for all feedback and recommendations!

Recommendations Hudec Dental

Hi everyone, I just had my first dental appointment in many years with Hedec Dental, to try to establish care. I had initially though I was going in for a cleaning, but it was a bit more of a quick rundown instead - and they scheduled me for two follow up cleanings, one for the left side of my mouth and one for the right, each of them $900+… is that a normal amount? I felt in the moment like the situation was a little off, but it’s been so many years since I’ve had a dental appointment that maybe this is just the standard.

Has anyone had any experience with them, or have any input on if it’s the standard to split into two separate cleanings at that cost rate?

EDIT: They didn’t specify verbally that it was a deep tissue cleaning/scaling, however based on everyone’s input it does indeed sound as if that must be the case.

EDIT 2: You will all be happy to hear I have cancelled both of the sessions they scheduled! Everyone’s input has been very helpful, and I appreciate the reassurance that something was amiss with the situation :)

Recommendations Miss Blockbusters? Go to the last video store in Cleveland, Corenos on W130th and Lorain!

Post image
474 Upvotes

I constantly see people say 'Waaah if we brought Blockbusters back there would be world peace!' Well guess what, Cleveland still has a surviving family owned rental spot you can go to to relive the past!

I grew up going there, ive actually been going to Corenos since the 90's when it was at the old spot further down lorain but havent been as an adult. They're super nice and are obviously in it for the love of the game or they would have closed years ago.

It was so cool to go into a video store, I asked them for a membership and they said I need to come back with ID, a card to pay with and a recent bill for proof of address. Ill be going back soon because im excited to take my kids and let them pick out a movie like I did as a little man.

Plus they have an adult section which I was never old enough to go into so that cracked me up to check out. I had a huge grin the entire time and im sure my face was bright red haha.

Seriously guys, its the last of the Mohicans for our city. Show them some love and keep the traditions we want for our own kids so badly alive! If we want nice things, we have to go out and get them!

Recommendations Warning about the friendly geeks of cleveland

I have been trying to make new friends in the area and decided to try out a meet-up group. I heard good things about the friendly geeks of Cleveland and even enjoy board games. I was quite excited to try and join to get to know others and make new friends. However, when I got there I was met with gazes and avoidance. I tried asking questions and was met with someone more interested in her phone than with this group. I ended up leaving immediately as no one was friendly. I hope they learn to do better but honestly if theyre not going to be welcoming them just need to be a closed group. Im honestly disappointed and embarrassed that people could treat you so badly trying to join in on an event.

I never pay these speed camera tickets. I have researched and learned that they are a money grab. But now this? They can file for a civil judgement? I dont want to pay, husband does. The car is in his name, so his judgement. If it was mine I would never pay and make them garnish my wages just to spite them. Any thoughts?
