Review Troy (2004, director’s cut) is a 10/10 for me, and Achilles is the reason why
I honestly don’t understand how people can watch Troy and come away thinking it’s just another generic historical epic.
For me, Achilles is what makes this movie special. He’s powerful, arrogant, obsessed with glory, and yet there’s something deeply human about him. He knows his name will outlive him, but eventually, glory isn’t enough anymore. He wants something real. Someone to come home to.
And that’s what makes his character so compelling to me. He’s not simply a warrior who wants to be remembered. He’s a man trying to figure out what being remembered is actually worth.
Hector is incredible too. He’s fighting for his home and his family, not some grand idea of eternal glory. The contrast between the two is one of my favourite things about the movie.
And that duel? Still one of the most memorable scenes I’ve ever watched. The tension, the respect, the inevitability of it all. It’s not just two guys fighting. It’s two completely different ways of living colliding.
Is the movie perfect? No. I know it takes liberties with Greek mythology, and I’m not claiming it’s the most historically accurate or sophisticated film ever made.
But I don’t care. The atmosphere, the music, the characters, the scale of the war, the tragedy of it all… it just works for me.
Troy is a 10/10, and it’s not even close to being just nostalgia. It’s one of those movies that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Discussion CLAYFACE was awesome 🤩
It was a beautiful movie, full of emotions from feeling his pain to laughing to feeling the pain again…
How did u find it?
After a long time I loved a DC movie this much.
I’m sure there will be a second part to it..
I did wait till credits end to see any post credit scene but there was nothing.
I haven’t see this guy’s other movies but he nailed this character!
Oops I just found out the ending is something else and I saw it as something different. Just now read about it. It’s more sad now.

Question Which Film Should I See Today?
I can see Whalefall, Clayface, or Wicker today? Which one should I see?
For context, last movie I saw in theatre was You Can See Everything, which I loved, of course.

Question Why is the villain of Toy Story 3 extremely evil? Spoiler
In Toy Story 1, we got Sid Phillips, who is a dumb kid that does weird things to toys.
In Toy Story 2, we got Stinky Pete, who didn't have any kind of bad intention, but he wanted to be in the museum, which is contrary to what the other toys want.
In Toy Story 3, we got Lotso, which is a evil Teddy Bear that tortured disobedient toys and literally just abandoned all the toys to their deaths.
In Toy Story 4, we got Gabby Gabby, seemed evil at first but turned out she only wanted her own kid.
In Toy Story 5, we got Lilypad, she had the same intention to help Bonnie make friends just like other toys but used the wrong way.
Why is Lotso such an extremely evil villain compared to the other 4?

Question Plot contrivances/lazy writing
Can anyone explain, why filmmakes or showrunners keep making situations that viewers just immeditealy see and say "that's dumb" or "that makes no sense".
For example, I guess the most reocurring situation is, when you have gunfights, where 1, or even more "enemies" come at arm-lenght to get disarmed or similar stuff (when their clear intention is to kill the protagonist/s). I feel like they must be trying to save money for choreographers or I dunno. Most of the time it just always can be done at least more believeable (I'd say John Wick 1 did it quite well, then it went down with each further movie tho)
Another one would be situations, where protagonist/s have no way of getting away unharmed, but are either given dumb plot armour and they just straight up cut to the point where they are safe. It totally kills any tension.
There are ofc more, but these ones are the most reocurring I believe.

Discussion My view on Mulholland Drive
This is my take on the movie as someone who prefers ontology over psychology, since Lynch himself told there is no definitive interpretation in his interviews, I guess this is another valid interpretation.
Since I watched it sometime back, I don't remember some of the names. Sorry about that.
I look at this movie as something similar to the Netflix series "The OA", there are different realities, and the characters and switched between them.
Then there are entities that drive the game, such as the Cowboy and the other entity behind the diner, I think it is called "the Bum". They are kind of similar to the Fates in Greek mythology. They determine how things must unfold.
The old couple who drive Diane mad at last is similar to the Furies.
Dan, while explaining his dream says something along the line of "he is doing all this" referring to the Bum.
The Cowboy tells Adam directly that he is the rider and Adam must just take the ride.
It is a deterministic world, every thing is already fixed. Certain things are fixed such as Camila Rhodes must become popular no matter which reality.
"There is no band." is the core idea. Everything is pre determined and is now just playing. You are not in control.
This is just my subjective view.

Discussion Do you think this the best non action roles of Harrison Ford ?
This probably one one off my favourite legal dramas . I thought that Harrison give one off best performances in this movie just like Raul Julia and Bonnie Bedelia.

Throwback Vincent D'Onofrio in MIB
Back in 1997, MIB was released in theatres. Didn't get a chance to watch it in theatres but I did watch the digital version of it.
I just came to realize that Vincent D'Onofrio played the Bug alien in the movie. Sounds like a surprise but yea, most of the 90s kids will remember this scene.
If you were to tell me this is Wilson Fisk from Daredevil, I'd not agree.

Discussion What does this scene mean in Immortal Beloved (1994)?
Does this mean that Beethoven is unique among the other composers (signified as other stars) or does this mean that Beethoven has always been destined to become a force of the universe itself, composing music that will transcend everything?

Question Anyone seen the new documentary on the muskrat?
But seriously, has anyone seen the new Musk documentary? And if so where? I thought it was supposed to come out this month, and it looks like somehow it did, but none of the theaters are showing it anymore? And there's no streaming, no nothing. And nobody's talking about it!
What gives?

Fan Content Letterboxd Last Watched Wallpaper
Fan and dev here! Sharing a free tool I made for my app Mantl: Stay for the Credits.
It takes your Letterboxd last watched movie, and automatically applies it to your wallpaper and/or lock screen. I just had my first Carrie watch, and it was one of the better pieces of movie art, goes really well on a phone screen!
Plus it makes a cool conversation piece for anyone who catches a glimpse.
Hoping this isn't breaking the rules, it's a free feature and I think it's a great fit for the Cinema community!
My previous watches/ wallpapers are Snake Eyes & Goodfellas.
