Typical Cape Breton music?
Hi there. Could anyone tell me of an album or artist who they would consider “typical” Cape Breton style? I’m particularly interested in fiddle players.
All the best.

Cape Clear. Can I access it from Wreck Cove? I've been up as far as the start of the Highland Road but was wondering about continuing in. TIA.

8x8 pressure treated posts for ground contact
Wondering if anyone knows somewhere on the island that carries these. Tried a Google search and haven't been able to find anyone who carries them. Anyone know of somewhere I could get ahold of some? Would need 12

Renowned music historian, broadcaster and podcaster Alan Cross set for Cape Breton stop
saltwire.comTLDR:
Alan Cross’ UNCHARTED:Live
November 3 at 7PM
St Patrick’s Church Museum, 87 Esplanade
Tickets: https://theopenscene.ca/tickets
From Cape Breton Post:
Alan Cross, an award-winning Canadian broadcaster, music historian, writer and podcast host, is bringing his UNCHARTED: Live tour to Sydney early next month— one of only three Atlantic Canadian stops.
Based in Toronto, Cross is most widely known nationally and internationally as host of the syndicated radio series The Ongoing History of New Music, The Secret History of Rock and ExploreMusic.
He has since moved to the podcast world, turning The Ongoing History of New Music — his weekly look at something from the alt-rock universe, from artist profiles to various thematic explorations — into a No. 1 music podcast.
As well, he has launched the true crime series UNCHARTED: Crime and Mayhem in the Music Industry, which delves deep into the sordid details behind some of the music industry’s darkest stories and most unimaginable mysteries.
The all-ages show is part live podcast, part previously untold tales, and part interactive question-and-answer session with the audience, with deep dives and rabbit holes aplenty for both true crime and music aficionados.
Cape Breton’s Joe Costello will open the show featuring stories and memorabilia from his 25-plus-year relationship with the local music scene.
Cross’s Sydney appearance is set for Nov. 3, 7 p.m., at St. Patrick’s Church Museum on the Esplanade, across from the Port of Sydney. Tickets cost $30 plus taxes and fees, and are available online at theopenscene.ca/tickets.

Uncharted:Live at St Pats on Nov 3 - True Crime and the Music Industry with Canada’s #1 Music Storyteller
galleryDo you know the connection between Canadian punk rockers The Subhumans, a Toronto terrorist plot, and the iconic TV show Danger Bay? Alan Cross does! The host of Canada’s #1 Music podcast, “The Ongoing History of New Music,” talks about this on the episode "The Punk Rock Terrorist Bombing" of his Uncharted: Crime and Mayhem in the Music Industry podcast! Catch Alan Cross' UNCHARTED: LIVE at St Patrick's Church Museum on November 3rd and hear stories just like these; tickets are on sale at http://theopenscene.ca/tickets. Now on to the tale...
The Subhumans were a part of the first wave of Canadian punk, starting in Vancouver in 1978 at around the same time as the iconic D.O.A. The band released their first single "Oh Canaduh" the same year, and their debut album "Incorrect Thoughts" in 1980. Bassist Gerry "Useless" Hannah left the band in 1981, while Brian "Wimpy Roy" Goble would go on to join D.O.A. after the band's first breakup in 1982.
That's when the story gets crazy. A group of self described environmentalists known as Direct Action started making an impact as "urban guerillas" in 1982. They vandalized the British Columbia Ministry of Environment offices, stole dynamite from the Department of Highways, and blew up a BC Hydro substation. In October, the group loaded a stolen pickup with their dynamite haul and headed for Toronto. Planting the bomb outside of Litton Industries, a manufacturer of American tomahawk cruise missiles, they set off over 550lb of dynamite and caused between $4-50 million in damages.
Direct Action became known as the Squamish Five upon arrest for their part in the Litton bombing, as well as other activities in both Vancouver in Toronto. And who was part of the group? Former bassist for The Subhumans, Gerry "Useless" Hannah, who was sentences to ten years (serving five) in prison.
The story of the Squamish Five would become legendary. D.O.A. and Dead Kennedys would spearhead benefit efforts for the arrested group. The CBC would produce an award winning docudrama about the group called "The Squamish Five," written by Canadian screenwriter Ken Gass. The Squamish Five would not be Gass' only venture on CBC, as he would go on the next year to write an episode of the Canadian classic Danger Bay.
