Hello all, as Phantomsplit announced, BG3Builds will be under new moderation. As of today, the 3 of us are taking over as the new moderation team, and we are excited to help keep this beloved community going. We don’t have any plans for changing anything major, but please feel free to reach out to us in the comments section here publicly or via Mod mail privately if you have any suggestions or concerns.

Thanks again to Phantomsplit for creating and moderating this community for so long. But as of now, I guess you could say Phantom split.

Announcement BG3 Builds Rebalanced: Final

Background

Since Baldur’s Gate 3’s full launch released with Tactician difficulty and the community began their blind playthroughs, complaints have existed that the game becomes way too easy for those familiar with D&D 5e fundamentals (attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, proficiency, advantage) starting in mid to late Act 2. The game has such strong magic items that after you pay a visit to the merchants in the Creche, Last Light Inn, and Moonrise the difficulty takes a huge nosedive. This lack of difficulty and lack of content for evil playthroughs have been some of the biggest complaints in an otherwise great and generational game. This post intends to highlight some of the biggest balance shattering mechanics as discussed by this community, inform those looking for more balanced playthroughs on what limits to impose, and also provide mod options to help balance these mechanics or balance enemies.

A poll was created to cover some of the most balance shattering mechanics, using community feedback to determine the topics discussed. The following “community opinions” are those where 52.7% of the community decided some restriction should be used to restore a semblance of balance. My goal was 2/3 of respondents agreeing that a restriction needs to be in place, then going with the most popular choice. However some questions (like whether to use Honour mode rules or whether to use camp casting) could be considered ‘courtesy’ questions. These restrictions absolutely must be in place to reach the goals of “rebalanced” when you consider broken combos like DRS which is fixed by honour mode or warding bond camp casting. The 21% of people who voted that ignoring these restrictions is OK are not in tune with the goal of “rebalanced.” So the goal shifted to 2/3 of respondents that are sane, informed on what they are voting on, or voting in good faith. As there are some who feel, “Why is balance necessary in a PvE game?” is a legitimate question. While that is certainly an opinion to have, the people with that opinion are not the people who this topic is intended for. People who want to use broken stuff can use broken stuff. This topic is for identifying what stuff is broken, and what self-imposed rules or mods can be used to restore a semblance of balance.

What is and is not addressed by “Rebalanced?”

This doesn’t cover everything that is OP. Stuff like Gloomstalker Assassin builds that use hit-and-run mechanics are almost a completely different game. It doesn’t cover gimmicks like stacking crates and having an enlarged owlbear jump on enemies over and over and over again. It doesn’t cover powerful but also very tedious builds focused on getting tons of summons and then buffing them. It doesn’t cover things like barrelmancy. The “Rebalanced” discussion is focused on turning a normal playthrough which many would not consider to be tedious, addressing some of the balance breaking mechanics such players have access to, pointing out that their relative strength removes fun from the game for many players, and many people may want to avoid these options.

BG3Builds Rebalanced Restrictions

The following table is listed in order of most strongly opinionated in need of restriction, to least strongly opinionated. It starts with the most egregious violators and goes to less egregious ones that a large portion of the community feels needs some kind of restriction for a balanced gameplay experience.

Topic BG3Builds Rebalanced Restriction Personal comments, not from community Relevant Mods
Long Rest Spamming Once a build is “online,” (typically around level 6-8) it should be able to go at least 3 or 4 fights before a long rest. Not including taking a long rest before a boss fight, which is fine. If you are concerned about missing story points in camp by limiting long rests, then after a long rest take a partial rest (use no food supplies) to see additional camp scenes. -
Honour Mode Rules Use Honour Mode rules This includes no builds that focus on DRS bug, no warlock extra attack stacking, no perilous stakes illithid power on enemies. Additionally no extra attack from bloodlust elixirs or haste spell. While the community did not vote to restrict the use of spellcasting with extra actions granted by haste or bloodlust elixirs this is potentially a polling error on my part, and I STRONGLY recommend avoiding this. -
Camp Casting Do not put allies into your party, have them cast buff spells or other effects, then remove them from your party allowing the buffs to persist - -
Elixir Chugging No builds that depend on elixirs The most egregious outliers are strength based elixirs, bloodlust elixirs, elixirs of vigilance and elixir of battlemage’s power. Using other elixirs on consistent basis likely will not be as bad as those listed above. In Game Mods: N/a   External Mods: Elixir Rebalance by Benenach
Consumables Dependence (e.g. scrolls and special arrows) - This question was left out by accident. However it goes in the same vein as the above elixir question, regarding farming consumables that your build depends on and therefore should be restricted. -
Tavern Brawler No using Tavern Brawler if you use Strength Elixirs I strongly disagree. This does absolutely nothing to fix TB Throw builds. TB Monks can dip into fighter or cleric for heavy armor proficiency and dump Dex anyways. Tavern Brawler is broken at its core. In-game Mods: N/a   External Mods: Tavern Brawler Rebalanced by VoidVigilante. I recommend the “TavernBrawlerFinesse_NoAccuracy” version. This is still pretty strong, and even works with dex based monks, but is not balance shattering; Feats Rebalanced by WoolToque has a nerfs only optional file which also makes changes to Sharpshooter, Great Weapon Master, and Alert
Ranged Slashing Flourish No combining ranged slashing flourish with Arcane Acuity - -
Abjuration Wizard Arcane Ward No using exploits (such as spamming Warlock’s Armour of Shadows) to refill the arcane ward The damage resistance provided by Arcane Ward scales exponentially due to Larian’s changes. At higher levels of wizard it is insane, and I am not sure everyone who voted has seen just how much damage it can mitigate. I recommend not using abjuration wizard if going more than 6 or 7 levels in wizard. -

Further Topics

The following are topics which the community did not agree needed restrictions in BG3Builds Rebalanced, but I feel need addressing.

Topic My comments Relevant Mods
Initiative There may be a polling error behind why 34% of respondents in the previous question said no elixir dependence at all, then only 19% here say no dependence on Elixirs of Vigilance. Regardless d4 initiative makes the turnbased game balance issue known as “Rocket Tag” extremely easy to pull off. The Alert Feat and Elixirs of Vigilance should be approached with caution if you are not using mods to bring initiative back to a d20. In-Game Mods: d20 Initiative by Ponsinoumi   External Mods: d20 Initiative by Ponsinoumi changes initiative to a d20, which by itself rebalances the Alert feat. Alternatively Feats Rebalanced by WoolToque has a nerfs only optional file which also makes changes to Sharpshooter, Great Weapon Master, and Tavern Brawler but high dex characters will still win initiative far too frequently with this fix.
Vulnerability It is possible to make enemies vulnerable to lightning, cold, psychic, or piercing damage. With some gimmicks you can also make enemies vulnerable to fire damage. Builds that do outright 2x more damage than they are supposed to be able to do against group of enemies are extremely strong. Oftentimes a little bit of setup is necessary, but doing that little bit of setup and then going all in on your strongest option to do double damage is typically way stronger than other build options. This is especially egregious in Act 3 where you can apply piercing vulnerability with no setup, and a well optimized party can almost all do double damage. -
Duergar Invisibility Technically the problem here extends beyond Duergar. Having a quasit companion (whether through Pact of the Chain Warlock or just through getting permanent access to Shovel) enables the same problem: start every combat while invisible to get a surprise round and thin enemy numbers before they get to go. Duergar just takes this a step further since you have that option on a playable character, letting you do more powerful things while invisible. If you abuse surprise rounds (and unlimited invisibility is the best way to do so) you will make the game significantly easier. -
Arcane Acuity There are two popular builds that use arcane acuity: swords bard and fire sorc. The sords bard + arcane acuity has been addressed because it depends on swords bard’s very strong ranged slashing flourish which warranted its own question. Fire sorc depends on building up arcane acuity through Scorching Ray, which is not on its own overtuned like ranged slashing flourish. With the community not wanting to restrict arcane acuity, that means fire sorc arcane acuity builds (one of the top 3 strongest builds in the game) are totally fine in rebalanced. While these two are the most popular Arcane Acuity builds, other builds are certainly capable of it such as niche thunder acuity builds, thief rogue builds, action surging fighter builds, and more. Arcane acuity needs to be capped at +2 to maintain a semblance of balance. +3 max. If you are consistently going above this, arcane acuity should only be used to cast cantrips with. -
Radiating Orbs The strength of radiating orbs has been undermined by how offensively strong you can be. The best defense is a good offense, and if you can kill or crowd control everyone before they get to go then there is limited need to be defensive. If you implement the BG3Builds Rebalanced rules then radiating orbs will become much, much stronger and may still make encounters much easier. Like arcane acuity, radiating orbs need to be capped at +2 or +3 -
Level 1 Wizard Dip For the most part this is fine in my opinion. The biggest issues come when mixing with Arcane Acuity, but with that off the table there are a few niche spells to be worried about. Such as playing as a full caster class, taking a level in wizard, scribing the Conjure Elemental spell, and using a 6th level slot to buff it into a Myrmidon. -
Ambush Bard Strategy The "Ambush Bard" build is one that probably is only recalled by those who have been on the sub for a while, and kinda didn't want to give up on it. It's somewhat complicated to explain which is a bit of a letdown, however this 3 minute video covers it best. But with Rebalanced in play it can pretty much just run around and cause balance to desert the game. -

Still too easy?

Even with all the above changes and restrictions, those who understand the fundamentals of the game may find BG3 to still be too easy to ensure a challenge. PC users have additional difficulty increasing mods available to them. Most notably Combat extender. While I am a big fan of the default boost to enemy AC, attack roll, saving throws, and damage per attack; I am not a big fan of increasing enemy movement speed or giving some enemies an extra bonus action. And I would actually like to give enemies more health than their default configuration (~40%). But that’s the great thing about the mod. You can change all these little numbers to your liking and they apply to enemies across the game, making the game more challenging. I think that if you go with Combat Extender, d20 initiative, and restrict the mechanics mentioned above then the game finally reaches the challenge many people were hoping for at launch.

Another external mod worth mentioning is Absolute Wrath. It adds random abilities to enemies to make combat a bit more challenging and roguelike all-in-one. If you use this with combat extender, you may want to tone down combat extender from the recommended values.

Unfortunately there do not seem to be any big combat overhaul mods on console yet. One option is to implement an item attunement rule of your own, where you limit yourself to something like as many uncommon items (magic items with a green border) but only up to 3 items of rare or above (blue, purple, or yellow border) per character. Your weapons do not count towards this 3 item limit.

“Rebalanced” and this subreddit

While the goal existed to make “Rebalanced” into a flair, I think given the community’s votes on the topics found in the second table (excluding perhaps the wizard dip) indicates that this wouldn’t change anything. You’d still have fire acuity sorcs. You’d still have radiating orb clerics that win initiative and hit every enemy with a -5 or more to their attack rolls before they even get to go. You’d still have wet+lightning tempest sorcs or Bhaalist Armor + ranged slashing flourish spam. Throwzerker and TB Monks would still exist, just slightly tuned down. So it seems that going through the trouble of implementing a tag or flair is just not worth it.

This post will go into the hall of fame post to provide a reference for the most overpowered mechanics which players should avoid if they want a challenge, and I will update it with mods if people make them to reign some of these mechanics in.

Specific Mechanic Ultimate Item Stealer

This is a build I just cooked up because I love thieving in BG3, but I’m curious to see if there is anything that would make it better. This is a build specifically designed to steal. All items and class choices are designed to give you the best opportunity to steal, persuade/deceive your way out of theft, or escape if you somehow get caught doing it.

This build was designed for Brianna Brightsong, but it’s honestly overkill, so you shouldn’t even need a halfling to complete this. That said, this is assuming Brinna is hired for this.

Arcane Trickster 11

Stats:
14/16/12/8/10/15

Feats: Dex +2, Cha +4

Expertise: Sleight of Hand, Stealth, Deception, Persuasion

Key spells: Friends, Disguise Self, Darkness, Invisibility

Equipment:
Head: Warped headband of Intellect
Cloak: Cunning Brume
Armor: Graceful Cloth
Gloves: Knock Knuckle/ Gloves of Power
Boots: Swiresy Shoes
Amulet: Silver Pendant
Rings: Shapeshifter’s Boon & Smugglers
Main hand: Assassin’s Shortsword
Bow: Awareness

The set up is simple. Make sure you have Disguise Self active, and then activate your Guidance. Sneak up behind your target and then steal away. If my math is correct, you should never roll lower than a 28 on any Sleight of Hand Check. 10 (any roll lower than 11 from Reliable Talent) + 5 (max Dex) + 8 (expertise) + 2 (Smugglers ring) + 1 (gloves) + 1d4 (guidance) + 1d4 (Shapeshifters) = 10 + 16 + 2d4 = 28-34 on any roll lower than a 10. A roll of 19 could net you up to a 43, and halfling lucks gives you a 1/160000(?) chance of failing.

If you somehow get caught, reliable talent + Cha bonus + expertise + Guidance + Shapeshifters gives you 10 + 3 + 8 + 2d4 = 23-29 on all deception/persuasion checks. Plus Friends if they aren’t immediately hostile.

Note: since assuming a halfling, you could use Nimblefinger gloves and change the feats to Dex +3 and Cha +3, for 24-30 on Charisma checks, but it’s all overkill.

Anyways, is there anything I’m missing? Is there a way to make this build better for stealing? If so, let me know in the comments!!!

Build Help Newbie Here, need some Advice (Oathbreaker Paladin)

• Upvotes

Hello Adventurers,
I‘m a fairly new player and my first run is a full party run with three friends:
1. Paladin of the Crown - Oathbreaker
2. Light Cleric
3. Open Handed Monk
4. Berserker

Now on to my question:
I broke my oath because my friends have questionable morals. Because i don‘t want to rebuy the oath every time they do some naughty stuff, I wanted to „rebrand“ as some kind of death knight

my first idea was multiclassing as Necromancer with Paladin main, but I‘m not sure they synergize well.

So could somebody give me some advice how i could embrace the „dark knight“ theme? Appreciate every input, classing, items whatever you find helpful!!

Ps: I‘m the tank frontline of the party

Specific Mechanic The No-AoE Trick to Hit Sanctuary Targets

You can bypass Sanctuary targeting restrictions via projectile trajectories. To do this, you simply need to line up a trajectory that passes through the character's hitbox while keeping your cursor just outside of it, but close enough. This allows you to shoot regular arrows, throw weapons with small hitboxes (like Daggers, Light Hammers, or Slinging Shoes), and cast projectile spells.

Build Help Fire Acuity Sorcerer Duo Compliment

Hey all, looking to run an HM duo run. I've landed on the good ole 11/1 fire Acuity Sorcerer build, but I'm stumbling on what the best compliment to this class would be for a duo run?

If possible, I'd love something semi thematic with fire as well. 4e monk potentially? But the ki point contention always turns me off.

Either way, curious to hear what you all think would be the best compliment to the 11/1 sorcerer.

Cheers

Build Help Abjuration Wizard Advice?

I’m playing a vanilla BG3 campaign with my gf, and she just isn’t as good at the game as me when it comes to making big damage or synergies with spells and gear and whatnot. She prefers to melee bash enemies with Booming Blade (yes I advised her to take Fighter or switch to Bladesinger), but early into act 3 she isn’t really doing enough.

Are there any good combinations of gears/equipment she could take to do better damage? i probably can’t convince her to reroll for better feats and multiclassing seems out of the question.

Build Help Help me complete my party (2th playtrough)

• Upvotes

Hi all,
First playtrough Tav was a duel wielding rogue, where I did all the pickpocketing/lockpicking. I did hardly use Astarion and always Gale, so I want to switch that around in my 2th playtrough (going for full evil run).
My plan (after doing some research on builds):

  • Tav = Durge Dragonic Fire Sorcerer
  • Shadowheart = Death Cleric Build (support / heal)
  • Astarion = rogue/monk (ascended). I never played monk. But still need the rogue for lockpicking I guess.

What role should I have for my last companion? I did not use Wyll at all the 1st time, but I also dont like him. Should I pick him? What other companions might fit my build? Maybe Minthara? No Gale. Please educate me, I did not use any guides in my first playtrough but want to use it for sure the second.

Edit: to clarify, I dont want to use spells for my 4th companion (I already have Durge and SH). So looking for a simple fighter/paladin build?

Build Help What is a powerful spellcaster build that isn't specific to one element?

Hi, can someone help me out on a build that has a theme closer to an archmage or something like a mage who excels in all sorts of magic? Like sorcerers are more powerful spellcasters but they usually only excell on one element and are born with their magic rather than learned it all and can't learn spells like wizzards, what im looking for is a very experienced and kinda power hungry wizzard or something like that that knows a lot in illusion magic and elemental magic and control magic and such, like gale but more ig, I'm thinking wizzard but I don't know the specifics for a build can someone help me out in this please? I hope I gave you the idea I have in mind and if not I can reply to you. Thank you.

Party Composition Good equipment-centric build guides?

One thing I still find myself struggling with is figuring out what builds will work well together in terms of not competing for equipment. Sure there are guides that will give you an entire four-person party, but what if you don't like one of the four builds and want to swap one out?

The best thing I've found thus far is these checklists:

https://gamestegy.com/bg3/checklists

But they're more about being comprehensive while secondarily highlighting particularly notable individual items, less about... well I want to say "equipment sets" except people use that term to refer to thematic and game-mechanical groupings that don't necessarily synergize well together. For example, the Spellsparkler is great for a wizard, but unless you somehow get medium armor proficiency many of the other lightning charge items don't go well on a wizard. A similar issue exists for the Sparkle Hands and monks.

What I really want is something that will cover stuff like, "whether you keep it simple with Berserker 12, or do something like Berserker 5 / EK 4 / Thief 3, you'll want Ring of Flinging + Kushigo Gloves + at least one homing weapon". Not that I need a guide to tell me that, but other things like that.

Maybe this exists and I'm just searching for the wrong keywords, because the obvious ones have other meanings.

Party Composition Looking to start an Oops all but what class?

Wanting to start an oops all one class play through but having trouble deciding on a class. Not really looking to multiclass much. At most a level 1-2 dip but would prefer none honestly.

I'm debating between Clerics, Wizards, Swashbucklers, or Druids, maybe monks?

What have been your favorite similar play throughs?

Build Help Booming Blade for melee Gloomstalker Assassin?

Is there any reason not to take BB as my racial cantrip for a Gloomstalker Assassin if playing as a high elf? Are there any other considerations?

In-Game Mods Is there a comprehensive list of gear that synergises well with/procs extra effects with crits and/or frightened.

Long story short i'm trying to come up with a modded build that uses the oath of conquest mod, various sources of improved crit, and a dip in GOOlock for frightened on crits.

Point of the post is i'm wondering if there's any gear in act 3 that specifically procs extra effects on crits/frightened that can activate reliably and arent limited to a single use per long rest or the like.

I'm on console and have a handful of slots for mods available but do have most of Graphic fades mods and larians leftovers for equipment.

Build Help What are your most fun duo builds?

Something I've been thinking about doing lately is a duo run. I've done a HM, I'm not too confident in a solo run yet, so I thought maybe a duo run might be fun on tactician as a baby step in that direction. I honestly also like the idea of fewer characters to manage 😅

Not seen too many duo builds on this sub, so just wondering those of you that have done some duo runs, what were your most fun? Or what would you recommend?

Edit: Bonus points for fun early game too

Party Composition Beginner looking for a balanced party

Hello,

I've played BG3 2 years ago but since then I dropped it and forgot everything about it, now I want to start fresh. My first run will probably be on Balanced. I am trying to keep it simple, playing on PS5 so taking the radial menus into consideration.

So far I'm thinking:
Lae'zel - Fighter Battlemaster solo-class
Shadowheart - Convert to Light Cleric solo-class at some point

These two are set in stone I think. Then:

Astarion - I want him but not sure what class -> Rogue (melee?) / Monk (open hand monoclass?) or something ranged - longbow (gloom-stalker or hunter ranger).

I really want a range character in my team - preferably bow - probably prefer it to spells.

Tav - should I get a Tav or a Origin Character?

if Astarion is a monk then 4th can be the ranger or longbow swords bard - would this party be balanced?

If Astarion is ranged - what can my Tav be?

Do I need a Bard in my team? Is a spell caster needed?

What essential skills should I have (for conversation, map awareness, lockpicking, stealing etc). Do I need main stat Charisma for my main?

Overall I'm trying to have a balanced party where I don't have to fight for items or stats and I get enough options to interact with the world.

Looking for suggestions and advice. Thanks!

Build Help Would this be any good? 5 Pala / 5 Cleric / 2 Druid

Would 5 Paladin / 5 Cleric / 2 Druid work for a Radiant Orb Spirit Guardians build?

I'm theorycrafting a Radiant Orb build for my Honour Mode party, and I keep coming back to the same multiclass split: 5 Paladin / 5 Cleric / 2 Druid.

The idea is to combine Spirit Guardians and the usual Radiating Orb/Reverberation gear with a melee-focused playstyle and Star Druid for improved concentration

Class Split

5 Levels – War Domain Cleric

  • Access to Spirit Guardians
  • Full spell-slot progression
  • Guidance and Resistance (no other user in my Party)
  • War Priest charges

5 Levels – Oath of Vengeance Paladin

  • Extra Attack for solid melee damage
  • Divine Smite for burst damage
  • Access to Misty Step for mobility
  • Booming Blade for additional melee damage, if available through the chosen setup Edit no Bomming Blade

2 Levels – Circle of Stars Druid

  • Starry Form: Dragon for improved concentration reliability
  • Starry Form: Archer for additional ranged radiant damage as a bonus action

The main downside I see is the relatively limited number of Spell slots. However, since the main goal is to fight in melee while keeping Spirit Guardians active, I don't think this is necessarily a dealbreaker.

Gear

I'd use the typical Radiant Orb/Reverberation setup.

For weapons, I'm considering:

  • Two-handed: Moonlight Glaive
  • One-handed: Sacred Star or Phalar Aluve

Feats

Two-handed setup

  • Great Weapon Master
  • Sentinel

One-handed setup

  • Savage Attacker
  • Ability Improvement (+2 Wisdom)

Alternative: 1 Storm Sorcerer / 6 Light Cleric / 5 Vengeance Paladin

This variant gives up Starry Form in exchange for Improved Warding Flare from Light Cleric, providing additional defensive utility.

What do you think?

Would this split be viable for Honour Mode, or would I be better off changing the class distribution?

I'm particularly interested in whether the two levels in Circle of Stars are worth it for the bonus-action damage and concentration support, or whether those levels would be better spent elsewhere.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for improving the build!

Build Help For rapier build, 12 BM or 8 BM/4Swasbuckler?

I wanna go for a charismatic character who is really good with the rapier, using a rapier only and nothing in offhand, I don't want to use bard or warlock since they don't fit my rp so I thought of these two classes, are they strong or is there something stronger for a rapier build? I want my character to be able to keep up with the rest of my party being magic missile build gale and bard assassin astarion. Please suggest for me which build to go for

Party Composition Light and Shadow in Balance

This is a duo build I’m working on, likely with my counterpart being a romanced shadowheart.
One character wields the power of light,
The other, the power of darkness.

The game does have a lot of items that work well with these themes. For the light character there’s radiating orb stacking which is fantastic, and the darkness character has shadow sorcerer/monk with a ton of items that specifically function in darkness. However, for one mechanic to work the other must therefore not work. Or so I thought.
One Strat I thought of was throwing down darkness to prevent opp attacks so the light character can run around with spirit guardians, so that’s one thing the two can do together. I’m wondering if there’s anything else?

Sorcerer Shadow Sorc Shadow Blade

I’m thinking of doing a sorcerer play through and using shadow blade since i’ve never used it before. How does shadow blade hold up compared to other spells if your character doesn’t have extra attack? Am i better off multiclassing if i want to use it?

Build Help Warlock 2/Sword Bard 10 vs Warlock 3/Sword Bard 9 for HM?

Basically Magical Secrets Vs Shadow Blade cast with a level 5 spell slot (max power).

You can also get basic Shadow Blade with Arabella's ring anyway but I think extra 2-16 damage (doubled with the Resonance Stone) is far better.

Kinda sad to give up magical secrets though so I'm not sure.

Fighter Unholy Assassin of Bhaal

I believe I have crafted THE Unholy Assassin of Bhaal build. I quite enjoy it, so I would recommend using it.

Start as a fighter, half-orc is ideal but I hate them, up to you. I like wood elf for the movement boost but really anything works, aside from the short guys who have less movement.

Start as a fighter, stats are 8 str, 17 dex, 16 con, 8 int, I personally prefer 15 in wisdom.

Take fighter to level 6, two-weapon fighting style, champion subclass and ASI for +1 dex and +1 wis at level 4, then savage attacker at level 6. Partial rest spam to get two +1 hand crossbows from dammon, just for ranged damage. Make sure to pick up the Knife of the Undermountain King, and either the King's Knife or just dupe trick the original knife. I also like having the yuan-ti scale mail until we get the Bhaalist armor. Then for your next 4 levels, put them into thief rogue. I took another ASI for +2 dex, to get to 20. The next two levels go back into fighter, and I took Sentinel. Opportunity attacks are really strong with dual wielding because you get two of them, and with advantage and all the crit-lowering we'll have, those HURT.

Now, for the gear.

Helmet: Sarevok's Helm to lower crit rate.

Cloak: I run Deathstalker's Mantle cuz there's not really better options

Armor: Bhaalist Armor for Piercing Vulnerability

Gloves: Craterflesh Gloves for stronger crits.

Boots: really anything works. Linebreaker boots and speedy lightfeet are solid, I like the black guard greaves.

Amulet: Broodmother's Revenge for more damage riders.

Ring 1: Caustic Band

Ring 2: Callous Glow Ring

Main and Offhand Melee: Knives of the Undermountain King

Ranged: The Dead Shot

With all this gear, you crit a fourth of the time, and your crits (if broodmother's revenge is active) do (2d6+7) x 2+1d6+2d6+2+2, or an average of 42.5 damage. And you can attack 4 times per turn. Even without broodmother's revenge and critting, you still do 25 average damage per hit 4 times per turn.

I really like this build, mainly for the knives of the Undermountain King. They're perfect for the dark urge. The tip of the blade is barbed, which means it inflicts the maximum amount of pain when you pull it back after stabbing someone. I also see crits as sort of attack against a weak spot, and a mass murderer would be pretty knowledgeable on where to strike to kill people the fastest.

Specific Mechanic Lockadin question Spoiler

I've been checking out some guides and one thing confuses me. They recommend taking Devil's Sight, but they also recommend Shar's Spear. Am I reading wrongly that Shar's spear negates any need for Devil's Sight due to the spear's passive blind immunity?

I've recently respecced astarion in the title multiclass, with the idea of using the feint attack from BM to trigger the sneak attack. I only had one chance to do it as it was not my campain but it didn't work.

I have 600 hours in the game and don't understand why this happened. I thougth it was so clever. At level 12 with 2 attacks from fighter plus the bonus action attack from swashbuckler it would have done so much damage so maybe it's for the best.
