Recommendations Fun things to do on Halloween in LA that don't include drinking/partying?

I'm spending this Halloween in LA with my girlfriend for the first time, and as two people who don't drink and party, I'm a little unsure of what to do or where to go.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a fun date on Halloween in LA? We've already ruled out going to the West Hollywood Carnaval.

Health Which Quest around Culver City is actually decent with appointments?

Need to repeat a lipid panel and my doctor's office has managed to turn it into a whole thing.

They said they sent the order. Quest couldn't find it. Called the office again, they said they'd resend it. Still nothing.

I already know which test I need so I ordered the lipid panel myself through Goodlabs. Just want to get it done and send the results back to my doctor.

Now I'm trying to pick a Quest location that isn't gonna waste half my morning.

I'm in Culver City. Palms, Mar Vista or Santa Monica are all fine.

Anyone have a location they actually like? Mainly looking for somewhere that sticks reasonably close to appointment times and doesn't have a nightmare parking situation.

I can deal with the needle. It's the logistics that are killing me.

Any other question! Question about street sweeping on highways during the day?

Genuine question.

This morning 405 northbound had active street sweeping going on closing a lane creating congestion

Yesterday afternoon 91 heading east, same thing street sweeping closing down a lane creating congestion

I’ve lived in various states where any and all highway work was conducted late nights early mornings.

I’ve seen it done here in LA area as well but street sweeping seems to be done in the middle of the day?

Help me understand, genuinely curious

Food/Drink Persian market for ghormeh sabzi ingredients?

I’m making ghormeh sabzi tomorrow and asking if there are good Persian markets to get the herbs in WeHo/BH area?

I’ve never made it before but a friend from Iran would make it and I loved it. Got the beef stew meat already.

Thanks!

Edit: I’ve been to the Persian store in SM but would prefer not to drive that far.

Food/Drink Nice date night restaurant recommendations near-ish the Griffith Observatory?

Hi,

My husband and I are getting some portraits taken this week at the Griffith Observatory. We’ll be dressed up for our photos (I’ll be in a formal dress and my husband in a shirt and tie), so we want to make a date night out of it!

Does anyone have any nice restaurant suggestions that are somewhat within the vicinity of the Observatory? We don’t want to completely break the bank, but we’re not exactly needing budget options either. We’re open to just about any type of cuisine, except I don’t care for sushi.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Moving Moving - LA Neighborhoods?

I am 28F and I've lived in Brentwood for 1.5 years and my lease is ending and I am changing jobs, my new job is 2x a week in-person at the office in Koreatown. I like Brentwood for its convenience (walking distance to CVS, multiple grocery stores, coffee shops etc) but certainly wish it had more character and the places you can go for food etc weren't all private equity backed chains.

This leads me to my next question, what other neighborhoods am I potentially overlooking or should consider moving to? I have spent time mainly on the West Side, and I like the Montana/ Santa Monica area for it closeness to the beach and there is a lot to do. But I would love to check out other neighborhoods before making my decision on where to move. I want to be able to walk around my neighborhood and close ish to resturants/bars/fun stuff/ - any insight would be really helpful!

About LA Automatic Gate Company?

Wondering if anyone has experience with getting an automatic gate installed in their driveway. Received two quotes so far, each at 10-11k, which seems insane for a simple metal or vinyl gate. Anyone have a recommendation?

Living At what age would you allow your children to ride the bus alone?

I know groups of school kids often ride together to and from school, but it feels a little different than a standalone trip that isn't frequented by other kids during before or after school hours.

If it's a familiar route, less than 30 minutes, and involves zero to one transfer, what age would you be comfortable letting a child begin to ride the bus alone?

Also, does anyone know if there are legal guidelines for what is allowed or encouraged?

About LA How to find local artist to hire?

I am hoping to hire a local artist to paint or draw something as a Christmas gift. I've never hired anyone for something like this and know almost nothing about art myself, so not totally sure how to go about finding someone.

Anybody got recs for specific artists or how I should go about finding one? Thanks!

Any other question! How is the social life at the University of La Verne?

I feel like this isn’t the right subreddit to post, but I was wondering about how the social life is at the University of La Verne? Is there like parties? How is the vibe in this school? Anything that explains how it is socially is appreciated!

Pets Puppy Only Daycare NELA?

We’re located on the border of HLP / Eagle Rock. We just adopted a 3 month old small puppy. When we lived elsewhere and our older dog was a puppy there was a great training/daycare option that took puppies only (small numbers) let the puppies play and also did training. Very different than big drop off for the day places. Is there anything like that in LA or Pasadena? We’d be willing to drive a bit. Thank you in advance!

Events Concert at Intuit Dome: where to line up for early wristbands?

Hello! I'm planning to attend a concert at Intuit Dome: does anyone know where exactly GA ticket holders are allowed to line up for the early wristband distribution? I don't want to arrive at the wrong location since I'm not familiar with the venue. Thanks in advance!

Visiting Best place to stay for USC game?

Planning on driving down from the bay for the USC/Ohio State game on Saturday.

What is the best area to look for a hotel in? I hear parking is a nightmare at the coliseum so maybe I’ll take the metro in. Just looking for somewhere that’s safe and I can get to the game easily.

Appreciate any advice!

Food/Drink Where can I find businesses willing to rent their kitchens?

Hi all,

I am in the process of starting my own business making desserts and pastries. My plan is to start by selling online, in farmers markets, etc. and eventually open my own store front.

However, I’m stuck on finding a decent and affordable commercial kitchen to rent. Obviously this step is important cause I won’t be able to get my license and health permit without it.

So I am wondering, are there any resources (apps, pages, etc.) where one can go to find restaurants/community kitchens/etc. that maybe willing to rent their kitchen for an affordable hourly rate?

TYSM!

Recommendations Help me walk!?

• Upvotes

I'll be in LA next week and have a travelling issue: I want to get to forest lawn memorial park in West Griffith Park and will be taking a bus to W. Alameda and Bob Hope SB. Then y can talk south on Bob Hope, past Johnny Carson Park, under the Ventura freeway, but then all the mapping tools I have used show Bob hope dr stopping right before the los Angeles river! Forest lawn is right on the other side of that river, but how do you get across the river?! Is the only way to do that (w/o swimming:) is walking over to W. Olive and crossing over/under Ventura then doubling back on riverside dr to Forest hills? Thanks!

Recommendations Transporting a car from LA across the country?

Does anyone have any experiences transporting a car from Los Angeles to another state? My mom loves my car so I decided to gift it to her for Christmas, but she now lives in Florida. I originally was going to drive it there but it's just too far. So now I am looking into having it transported.

Recommendations Licensed massage therapist recs in Burbank/NoHo/Studio city/etc?

Any recs for massage therapists in Burbank/NoHo area? Can also travel east as well, just hoping to not have a super long drive back to Burbank post-massage.

Looking for specifically licensed massage therapists as I’m mainly finding thai places and I’ve had issues with injuries being made worse from Thai massage unfortunately. I also want to be able to communicate upfront with the therapist about specific tension spots/injuries.

Outdoors What are the best free public tennis courts in LA?

I've been looking to get back into playing tennis and want to find some decent public courts to practice on without paying for a court reservation. I'm open to different neighborhoods but would prefer something in the Westside or Mid-Wilshire area if possible. Are there any hidden gems or well-maintained courts that locals swear by?

Visiting Where to Stay!?

Brother and I are going out to the area for a couple days. Primary purpose is to do some shopping in West Hollywood (fragrance shopping) on the first day. Second day we want to drive up to Malibu (reservation at Nobu in the afternoon). Where would be a good place to stay that’s drivable to both of those areas? Originally though Santa Monica but read some threads and now we’re not too sure. TIA
