About LA Is moving to Los Angeles a good move now?

Hello!

Me and my parents moved to the united states 4 years ago. We are located in south Florida. For the past couple of years we travelled the us visiting 6 states. Me and my mother specially fell in love with southern California la-Diego area. We are tried of life in Florida, to hot either you are extremely wealthy to enjoy soflo activities such as boating, luxury clubs and restaurants or your stuck at home since the heat is horrible for outside activities. My mother works in fashion makes decent money around 70k. I just finished my AA degree and I'm seeking higher education. My reason for this post is that I hear a lot of mixed opinions on moving/ living in SoCal. Is this a good move? why or why not?

Just to clarify we don't find Florida out of our price range, its just the heat and the lack of value you get apart from the warm ocean and some time out of the year good weather. Another point to add my dad helps out with rent and bills, just an example here we pay 3400 in rent for a 2b 2b, is this a good budget to rent in la or San Diego? Also my dad would not be moving with us since he lives in Europe and helps us.

PS: sorry for my bad grammar English is not my first language :)

People LA non-natives: what's your honest opinion on Angelinos?

• Upvotes

You hear that ppl in LA/Hollywood are overly concerned about looks, ever in a rush, rude, conceited, shallow/vapid...

Maybe your views depend on where u came from &/or the industry u work in here? I'm a native & my experience is it can run the gamut from super intelligent, considerate, genuine people to absolute assholes, entitled Karens (or Kevins lol), plastic Barbies w/ a superiority complex...but idk is it like that everywhere?

Curious on takes from people who moved here from elsewhere.

About LA Does anyone remember LA in the 90s and 00s?

Felt like an amazing place to live and I loved it here. Now it feels like every year gets worse and life is a pale shadow of the good times. Is it just my nostalgia or have things changed?

About LA Why can’t LA be more like Florida?

ragebait title aside… a couple things first…

a) this is not a florida appreciation post. nor is it co-signing any politics they may have.

b) im a lefty loony, bernie loving, mamdani worshipping, take all my money and give it to the poor, progressive social democrat.

that being said…

WHY ARE OUR ROADS SO AWFUL???

this was my 2nd time in florida this year for work. tampa and an hour inland, palm beach and an hour north. everything is so clean and well maintained! i95? not a single piece of trash/debris on the shoulders, no tagging, no off color shoddy paint job cover up, and there were WORKING light posts, about 50 feet(?) apart, all the shining the same color, lining the entire hour drive. it was really soul crushing to see. lol.

and from what little I know… their tax burden is not as heavy as ours. so wtf are we doing wrong?

is it our people? our govt? our priorities? i know our roads are more heavily traveled (though this was the same case in tampa- super clean!)… but there has got to be an explanation as to why almost all of our freeways look like a garbage truck dumped its load on it every day instead of the yard.

even when i was in mamdanistan a month ago, in MIDTOWN of all places, there was not a single piece of trash on the floor. im not even exaggerating. so this can’t be a red state/population size thing. if nyc can… we 1000% can too.

what is going on? genuinely asking. how do we fix this??

and yes, i know there’s a lot of important things to fix and cleanliness may be low on the list*, but we can hold space for several things to be true at the same time, that need attention.

thank you, if only for letting me rant.

*how we show ourselves first to each other, and then the world, is arguably important. it’s not just vanity. it’s our core.

ETA…

I understand there are going to be good and bad parts everywhere.

I specially brought up NYC so people wouldn’t make the population comparison.

Let’s not miss the forest for the trees… we shouldn’t be accepting our roads being trashed, littered, and not picked up after / taken care of.

Recommendations Transporting a car from LA across the country?

Does anyone have any experiences transporting a car from Los Angeles to another state? My mom loves my car so I decided to gift it to her for Christmas, but she now lives in Florida. I originally was going to drive it there but it's just too far. So now I am looking into having it transported.

Visiting Traveling from Australia to LA to see a band, where do tourists stay ?

Hello,

As the title states, my wife and I plan on traveling from Sydney Australia to LA to see my favourite band in April 2027.

The show is at the Echoplex google maps looks like it’s near dodger stadium.

Los Angeles is such a huge city it’s hard to begin the search on where to find a hotel. Do I look at Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Long Beach, manhattan beach ? Does it matter ?

We are not super rich fancy people, is Beverly Hills for only for celebrities? Our plan is to get a direct flight into LA have a couple days to acclimatise see the show and then fly to Hawaii for a week. I don’t know much about LA apart from what’s in movies.

Thank you

Recommendations Stay in Beverly Hills for work - any recs?

I'm going to Beverly Hills and staying at the Wilshire for work in November from a Wednesday to a Saturday afternoon. I'm from NYC and have never been to LA/Cali before. I want to do some unique things that are easy since I'll be working Wed after I land and Thursday, but taking off Friday.

I'm looking at going to typical touristy places like Urth Caffee (ofc Tumblr), walking Rodeo, maybe getting breakfast at the Polo Lounge on Thursday, but is there anything anyone recommends for a first timer? I'll also be solo.

I also might take the bus from Beverly Hills to Santa Monica to go to the beach for the day Friday too. Is there anything in the Santa Monica area that I NEED to try/go to/see??

Thank you :)

Visiting Where to Stay!?

Brother and I are going out to the area for a couple days. Primary purpose is to do some shopping in West Hollywood (fragrance shopping) on the first day. Second day we want to drive up to Malibu (reservation at Nobu in the afternoon). Where would be a good place to stay that’s drivable to both of those areas? Originally though Santa Monica but read some threads and now we’re not too sure. TIA

Moving Moving - LA Neighborhoods?

I am 28F and I've lived in Brentwood for 1.5 years and my lease is ending and I am changing jobs, my new job is 2x a week in-person at the office in Koreatown. I like Brentwood for its convenience (walking distance to CVS, multiple grocery stores, coffee shops etc) but certainly wish it had more character and the places you can go for food etc weren't all private equity backed chains.

This leads me to my next question, what other neighborhoods am I potentially overlooking or should consider moving to? I have spent time mainly on the West Side, and I like the Montana/ Santa Monica area for it closeness to the beach and there is a lot to do. But I would love to check out other neighborhoods before making my decision on where to move. I want to be able to walk around my neighborhood and close ish to resturants/bars/fun stuff/ - any insight would be really helpful!

Visiting Best place to stay for USC game?

Planning on driving down from the bay for the USC/Ohio State game on Saturday.

What is the best area to look for a hotel in? I hear parking is a nightmare at the coliseum so maybe I’ll take the metro in. Just looking for somewhere that’s safe and I can get to the game easily.

Appreciate any advice!

Recommendations Itinerary help?

Hello! My boyfriend and I are visiting Cali in December and are looking for some cool things or places! Specifically we were wondering about any night swap meets, fun local events happening, or places with outstanding views. We are mainly gonna be passing through downtown LA , but we are open to driving anywhere! My boyfriend is also especially fond of birds such as ravens and owls and I was wondering if there was anywhere he could see these beautiful animals or even interact with them? I'm an oddity & an art lover , he is much more into nature and Science. Thank you !

Recommendations Fun things to do on Halloween in LA that don't include drinking/partying?

I'm spending this Halloween in LA with my girlfriend for the first time, and as two people who don't drink and party, I'm a little unsure of what to do or where to go.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a fun date on Halloween in LA? We've already ruled out going to the West Hollywood Carnaval.

Any other question! Question about street sweeping on highways during the day?

Genuine question.

This morning 405 northbound had active street sweeping going on closing a lane creating congestion

Yesterday afternoon 91 heading east, same thing street sweeping closing down a lane creating congestion

I’ve lived in various states where any and all highway work was conducted late nights early mornings.

I’ve seen it done here in LA area as well but street sweeping seems to be done in the middle of the day?

Help me understand, genuinely curious

Living At what age would you allow your children to ride the bus alone?

I know groups of school kids often ride together to and from school, but it feels a little different than a standalone trip that isn't frequented by other kids during before or after school hours.

If it's a familiar route, less than 30 minutes, and involves zero to one transfer, what age would you be comfortable letting a child begin to ride the bus alone?

Also, does anyone know if there are legal guidelines for what is allowed or encouraged?

About LA Automatic Gate Company?

Wondering if anyone has experience with getting an automatic gate installed in their driveway. Received two quotes so far, each at 10-11k, which seems insane for a simple metal or vinyl gate. Anyone have a recommendation?
