Comment Commentary This comment was completely unnecessary
I know why they bailed here; it's where the dove dies. That being said the fic is heavily tagged and there's plenty of warning so. Just a rude ass person

Welcome back everyone!
Time for our Wellness Wednesday check in. We know this community means a lot to most of our members and that Tuesdays have been harder on some users than others, but we are at our core a community and we are here to support each other.
Now that the sub is open once again we’d like to hear all about your (mis)adventures on Tuesday. Did you go on grand adventures? Get into mischief? Get some writing done?
Maybe you just binged a few more fics on the archive itself. Tell us all about it! Break out that purple prose and tell us as cheesy of a story as you feel like.
Or just talk about your day.

I will admit my guilt, indeed the characters are nothing like canon. In my defense I can only say… IT’S FUCKING FANFIC!
I’m probably just getting rage baited by some asshole kid with too much time in their hands, but this is the fifth comment along those lines I’ve gotten from guest accounts in the last 2 weeks since I started posting this fic. It’s just annoying the hell out of me.
Also, can I just say that, in the unlikely case this isn’t ragebait but actually serious, clicking on a fic that contains the tags ‘eventual smut’ and ‘shame kink’ and then complaining about “Motherfucker!” and “Fuck off, asshole.” (the literal only two instances of cursing in this particular chapter) is probably not the smartest decision? It’s gonna get a whole lot worse if you are this guy.

I SWEAR 2027 will be my year, this can't go wrong in any way!

Idk if they are in Reddit, and I love all the comments I get even the little “love this chapter” or sometimes just a “<3” they are special to me, but got this before going to bed and I felt that little sting of happy tears. Nothing better for a writer than when your reader feels your writing to the degree where they start theorizing and “breaking down” the plot.
Love to ALL the commenters out there on any story, no matter how big or small. And love to the lurkers in the shadows

I guess it is annoying when it is like random slander irelevant for the "main story" (like random slander of the canon partner), but it's fanfic, the summary and tags usually tells you in what way will the characters be different. What I care about is if they sound like themselves on the 1% chance they are doing this.

(I still love the fic. The author is just so good at writing build up to smut then cutting to black that's it's making me go AHEHFHAHFBRUSJ. Still love the fic. Still gonna read it. God author, you're making me EXPLODE. GOD THE BUILD UP IS SO GOOD I RAH RAH RAH RAH)
Edit: I knew the scenes were gonna fade to black, I was fully aware going in. I just think the build up is sooooo good and I keep forgetting hence this meme.

I went to my fandoms page and didn't get a chance to filter things yet before my eye caught this. I mean... What? Ngl tho, I had to read it just to see wtf and not disappointed lol!
What tags have you found that made you double take or laugh?

I write multi-chaptered fics, one-shots, and drabbles. I was told that drabble collections aren't good because it makes it harder to filter and to make them as separate fics. However, I've seen people say that drabbles clog up the feed and makes an author's account look bigger than it actually is.
For people that are mainly reader's which one would you prefer?

I recently was going through my usual ship pages, and there's one author that's very prevalent in this ship. I don't read all of their work because it's not personally my style, but it's a small ship so I'll occasionally dabble because they post probably most of anyone else.
I get into the comments of another work from like...two years ago where this author is just being weirdly rude and semantic with a person about not tagging right and how a scene should be tagged as non con (to be clear, this scene was from the OG source and DOES have predatory undertones but only in what it's a metaphor for, not in the act itself. There is no SA at all in this scene or this person's depiction of it, arguably tagging it non con would be misleading) I don't think I'd usually notice but it's just that this author has a fairly distinctive username and posts so frequently that I realised.
And I don't know, it just really put me off of all their work. Lack of content aside, I don't think I could read them now that I've seen that. It's not a massive deal but it's harassing other authors incorrectly and unfairly is just...ick.
Would something like that change how you view an author or your likelihood of reading their fics? Not the exact situation necessarily, but just author interactions and behaviour outside of their work

What is the proper etiquette before dropping a 6k bdsm au gay smut in a fandom with less that <500 works and only 12 tags for said old man x old man ship???
asking for a friend!!??!

600 hits too?? OMGGGG

This is not a complaint, I'm genuinely curious if there's some trivial or any reason behind this that I'm not seeing.
I post a fic, usually a short oneshot, it gets no or very few kudos the first few days. It gets to 50 hits, 2 kudos max, maybe.
Then when it reaches 100 hits, it's at 10 kudos.
And the number of kudos per hits keep increasing. Say, 440 hits and 72 kudos.
To the point where after a few weeks of posting almost every hit means a kudos.
How does that even work? I genuinely don't get the logic behind it.
I made up these numbers jhst to illustrate, but this thing keeps happening.

I am trying to filter a fic and the site keeps going completely white. Ive reloaded the url, restarted my phone and reopened new tabs but nothing is working. Anyone else experiencing this.

I have this fic that I'm planning, and there's some major characters that only appear in the middle or near finale of the story. So I don't know if I should keep them hidden until they make their appearance and then add their tags, or if I should include them right from the start. I'm worried it might spoil things or make readers get tired of waiting too long for them to appear

I have a fic idea that I'm very much considering having an "it was all a dream" ending. I know that's a very controversial route but I feel like it's correct here, and the fic is set in Wonderland, so it's not totally off-theme.
But, since many people don't like it, I'm unsure wether or not I should tag it. On one hand I don't want people to read a fic I know they may hate the ending of, but on the other I feel like knowing it's a dream will change the entire way people read the fic and ruin it for people who would actually enjoy the twist or fic itself.

So, I've been writing on AO3 for a little over a year now, and I've written a lot. I primarily write OCs, and I've created a ton of stories with OCs and their unique plots and storylines blended into canon or with the canon characters.
However, I've recently had a pulling to go back to my very first long fic, the one that started it all, my forever favorite OC and story. At the time I wrote it, I hadn't seen all of the source material in chronological order (long story short, I had a client who watched the show religiously, and every week when I visited, they were on a different season from the week before and we would sit through two to three episodes together, and that's what got me writing for the fandom 😅). I have since seen the first season all the way through, and now I want to enhance my first fic. I want to write it better, better develop my OC and her relationships with the canon characters (I gave her a very unique premise that my readers seemed really excited for and nobody in the fandom has done yet, and if done well, could be extremely interesting; I feel I failed to live up to the hype in my first pass). I also want to align it with the first arc of season one.
My question is: should I keep the original fic name, and just add "Reimagined" or "Remastered" to it, or should I give it a completely new name?

ever since i started writing my own fanfics, i haven't been reading much from others on ao3. it's not that i don't appreciate other work and stuff, i just get more focused on my fics and it gives me comfort that i can make them go in any direction i like!
a lot of the media im more heavy in are like, 'kid shows' and stuff targeted toward younger audiences, so there isn't a whole ton of fics with content i enjoy (i'm very into heavy angst, hurt/no comfort, darkfic, etc). i was one of the first people to write a darkfic for the specific era of monster high i enjoy.
idk, i just really got into the "write for yourself" and "if it doesn't exist, write it!" mindset, and it makes it hard for me to get into other fics. my writing style isnt anything special, but i like the way i write, so i enjoy reading back my own work. and obviously i can make it however i want and rewrite it as many times as i want until it's the exact thing i want.
it makes me sad, because i used to read fic so much (it's how i learned literacy since i didn't get access to a proper education when i was younger) and now i have trouble sticking with fics or with not finding fics interesting.
has anyone else gone through this? if so, what were some of the ways you reintroduced reading fics (if you did at all)?

For context: This is a story where MMC finds himself in an alternate universe and is trying to get home. While here he meets his wife, only it’s an alternate version where they never met/he doesn’t exist.
It is a SIDE PLOT. And ultimately he decides not to pursue any relationship with her because she isn’t the woman he married.
This comment is bothersome to me. I spent a lot of time on this particular subplot making sure that the characters felt like themselves. I went back and forth many times before finally deciding how I wanted to handle it. No other comment has come close to this one.
Part of me wants to scream. Another wants to cry. A third part wants to tear this person apart for being insulting.
