I posted this in r/tennis and several people urged me to post it here.
Addition to the OG post:
a. Playing as many matches as possible will help you a lot.
b. You can DOMINATE doubles matches against beginners and intermediates if you learn proper high school and college-level positioning and movement. Examples: Proper signaling. Australian setup. Net player constantly shifting with the ball. One of my hs coaches was a master at doubles and taught me proper strategy and positioning, which let me easily beat other players that were way better than me at singles.
Good luck.
My playstyle and background for context:
Male
5.0 NTRP and starter on decent D3 College Team
Moderate power high percentage serves.
Powerful groundstrokes with heavy spin.
Confident at net if I need to be, but it's not my first choice unless my opponent sets me up or I am playing a pusher.
Relentless intensity and speed with the intention of pounding the opponent's ad-side and making them feel like hitting a winner is impossible.
A bunch of random niche shots like the cross court dip passing shot that I can consistently land.
Really bad at overheads. lol.

2.5-3.0 level player opening myself to the possibility that I might be a one handed backhand player. Tried it out in earnest for the first time today on a wall and it just feels much better on my shoulder and clicks in terms of generating power in a way that the 2HBH does not. Not generating a ton of topspin just yet but I can hit it pretty cleanly over net level and kind of aim it. Also, can't confirm until I roll some tape but I feel like I look cool af.
Anything I should know as I attempt to pursue this awesome power?

Been struggling with tennis lately. Not necessarily just tennis but life has been really difficult for me lately and it’s gotten to me on the court as well. Been thinking about putting down the racquets after my latest USTA loss. Me (4.20) and my partner (4.14) lost a match 6-1 3-6 8-10 to a 4.06 and a 3.76. Various moments after that first set we both played bad. I lost my volleys, he lost the strokes and both of the other dudes upped their level, so we suffered over it. A match we should realistically dominate fairly well (and were until the 2nd set).
But worse is I’m getting really emotional on the court which I haven’t since HS. I’m normally quite calm and composed nowadays and I’ve just been feeling angrier and angrier lately on court. Even in practice sets if I win I will yell at myself and curse. It’s very self destructive.
I want to take a break for a little and just regroup. Focus on my private/work/school life more. But my friends/teammates are saying I should keep playing, to take my mind off the other stressors when I get on a court.
Any advice? What would some of you do? Take the few months off or keep playing?

Please help I literally don’t understand it at all, it makes no sense to me
I don’t understand where power comes from with this stroke, or spin
And every time I hit one I just feel blind. Like I can’t understand the difference between when the ball produced is good or if it’s bad, I have no feel
Legit considering trying a one hander cause this is not for the weak 😭 HELP

hey everyone,
I recently got a Wilson Ultra 100 V3, and the strings just broke, so I’m looking for recommendations on what strings to get and what tension to use.
I’m still developing my technique and consistency. My forehand swing is somewhat fast, but my main priority right now is control, accuracy, and improving my technique rather than getting more power. ( idk how important this is but i’ve heard the POP sound is what tells if strings are strung right at its right tension, plz tell me if i’m right or wrong abt this if u don’t mind🙏)
A little about my game:
My shots sometimes fly long past the baseline.
I want better control and more consistent shot placement. also learning currently how to more spin in forehand(it’s a bit flat)
I’m working on developing more topspin.
I prefer a controlled, predictable response over extra power.
I’m open to polyester, multifilament, or hybrid setups.
I’ve been looking into polyester strings, but I’m not sure if they’re the best option for my current level.
What strings would you recommend for the Ultra 100 V3, and at what tension (lbs)? I’d also appreciate recommendations on string gauge (16, 17, etc.) and why you’d choose that setup.
Thanks for the responses in advance!

I am a decent baseline player. I have been playing for about 2 years and I simply dont get how to get my forearm to pronate whilst hitting a flat serve. I dont really know how to hit a better serve. Any drills I could do to learn an effective and reliable flat serve? Is pronation a thing you do actively during serve or do you dont even need to think about it during it and it simply happens naturally?

I personally believe that Sampras had the most aesthetically pleasing serve motion and trophy position, I mean it’s nothing new, he had commentators in the US open comment on how good his serve his right after his serve went long on a first serve, only for him to fire a 125 mph second serve ace down the T, like the commentators were screaming without the s for sure.
Its so technical too, his whole body almost faces the same direction the opponent is facing, at the back, disguising his toss so efficiently. Like imagine playing him in the 90s with those untouched super fast courts, you only see this man’s side profile for a second as he tosses the ball, you can’t figure shit out from the toss, and in about a little over half a second you hear a dull thud, the ball just went past you crashing into the advertisement boards. Damn i love this man and his serve, sure fed is hella elegant, his toss arm and right hand go up the same time, other than that its similar to sampras, back facing the opponent, disguised toss.
Current 6’4+ players are throwing 130+ pretty routinely now due to racquet tech and increased head size (mainly longer levers in the body producing sharper angles and stronger internal shoulder rotation)i mean Sampras hit routine 125 with a god level of precision with a 85 sq in head like man, not to mention his racquet is as sexy as his serve, that pro staff 85, metal, weight almost 400g, wrapped in that purple grip, its a tragedy no manufacturers make smaller head sizes now as the game has changed, i think there might be a section of my people in this sub who think that smaller head sizes 85-95 range looks ideal on a racquet rather than a 100+ which starts looking a bit goofy at that point lol
I have no reason why I made this post

Something I see all the time in tennis.
You can hit your forehand freely for an entire set.
Then suddenly it’s 4-4, 30-30 and the same forehand feels completely different.
You start guiding the ball. You aim further inside the lines. Maybe you slow the racket down a little.
Nothing changed technically in the last five minutes.
The score changed.
I think one of the hardest skills in tennis is learning to accept the nerves without letting them change the way you play.
I’m curious what happens to you when the score gets tight.
Do you become more aggressive, more conservative, or do you actually manage to play the same way?

Hello all,
I am a former player teaching my 11 year old son tennis and I was wondering if you could provide some suggestions on improving his technique on his groundstrokes, footwork, etc. There are a lack of available tennis programs in our local area and he has not been able to take any lessons or get any outside instruction other than with me, so the feedback you give is very valuable to help him as an aspiring advanced player as well. Or if everything looks okay to you, that would be nice to know as well. Just for reference I had doing a basic warm up type rally with me going down the middle of the court. Thank you so much for your help.

I’m in Taipei for the next 3-4 months and I am looking for people to practice/play matches with. I am around an intermediate level player. I am in Tianmu area but I can travel anywhere in Taipei to play. Thanks!

I was serving and the racket slipped out of my hands into the ground pretty hard. Is this racket still ok? It looks like a chip to me but I'm not sure since it's on the inside of the frame near the top, and I'm confused how damage here even happens when only the outside of the racket hit the ground.

I'm an admitted gear nerd, far too concerned about little things on the margins that don't matter. That said, we're all here for each other, right? I need help finding a good cross string. I've been through a lot of mains and am settling on Confidential 1.15 as my favorite. I generally prefer the feel and playability of hybrid stringbeds.
I was managing elbow pain for a while and running various soft poly or syn gut/multi cross strings. The elbow pain has gradually resolved, mostly through technique improvement. Most recently, I threw in some 1.30 alu power rough that I had lying around as my cross, and I'm really liking the feel and the response. I'm getting feedback without any harshness, and the right blend of pocketing, power, control, spin, and spin modulation.
The early tension loss, early dying, high cost features of alu power make me uninterested in that as a long term option, but I'm looking for some recs for something that will give me a similar response while lasting longer. 4G Soft, MSV CoFocus, Tourna Big Hitter Silver, Toroline A5, and Restring Sync are some of the options that I'm considering. Thanks!

I have a Head Extreme MP 2026 and I’ve been choosing between Head Lynx Tour 1.30 (any color) and Head Lynx Tour 1.25 (black) full bed
My issue is that on TWU database 1.30 mm Lynx Tour is worse than 1.25 mm by every single category, but I’ve also heard from TennCom that exactly black version of Lynx Tour 1.25 mm is really disappointing (muted, and clunky)
Can you share your thoughts on these two strings from your experience and if a color does make a difference in the playability of the string?

Like the title says, I usually find my form in the 2nd set and sometimes that can be too late. I’m wondering if there’s any advice to get to this headspace where I’m properly hitting the ball the way I know I can sooner in the match. Do you guys have any tips?
r/10s • u/FedericoCoppiniCoach • 10h ago
Have you ever prepared to go crosscourt, suddenly seen the line open and changed your mind at the last second?
Sometimes it works. Sometimes the ball ends up in the net and you immediately think: “I changed my mind too late.”
But how late is actually too late?
I’ve been thinking about this because I don’t think changing your mind is necessarily a bad thing. You have to react to what’s happening on the other side of the net. But at some point your feet, spacing and body are already organized for the shot you originally chose.
You might still see the new option, but maybe your body no longer has enough time to actually play it.
I’m curious how other players experience this. Do you have a moment where you feel, “Okay, now I just have to trust the shot I already chose”?

I just had another 1 1/2 hour hitting session and I feel great. Both my partner and I understand that it's good to give the other guy a good ball to work with that still has some pace and spin to create these long exchanges that increase gradually in intensity.
I still force myself to play best of 3's because I know match situations are what in the end makes you better, but I love the creative freedom that comes with rallying.

The first clip is me serving around 3 weeks after I started playing tennis. Fast forward to 3.5 months, and the second clip shows where my serve is now.
I’m still learning and trying to improve my technique.
I’d appreciate any feedback on what I’m doing well and what I should work on, especially my toss, timing, and overall service motion.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! 🙏🏾🎾
