Relationships/Family Should I uninvite

Hello, I need advice on this. I have been planning my wedding, and due to excitement and wanting to share my joy, I’ve invited a couple of my best friend’s friends. We aren’t close and speak here and there.

Anyway this week I learnt in passing that one of them is having a pretty elaborate 30th and I wasn’t invited, it hurt way more than I expected it to. And it’s as if the ball dropped and I realised oh we aren’t friends. I’ve already sent them invites and they’ve all RSVPd that they are coming. They have been helpful too and tried to support me in the wedding plan, sharing vendor recommendations etc.

I just don’t want them at my wedding anymore, it feels scared and it’s the only time I will have a wedding. I only want people who see me and hold me in the same way I do them. I know it’s socially unacceptable to uninvite people, but I really don’t want them there anymore.

How can I go about this?

Thank you for your advice.

Edit: Will not be uninviting, thanks to all the helpful folks. Feelings are so tricky, but I think it’s better to keep the invites to honour my initial excitement and hopefully build the friendship in the future.

Everything Else Opinions on Friday or Saturday weddings?

My fiancé and I are getting married in 2028, and somehow, out of all the things we could disagree on while planning a wedding, we disagree on the date.
We want a late spring/early summer wedding, and we’ve settled on the weekend of June 30th and July 1st. The problem is that June 30th falls on a Friday, while July 1st is a Saturday.
Personally, I absolutely love June 30th as a wedding date. I know that might sound silly, but there’s just something about it that feels right to me.
My fiancé, however, thinks we should go with Saturday, July 1st, because it’s more convenient for our guests. People wouldn’t have to take time off work, and it would generally be easier for everyone to attend.
I understand his point, and I do want our friends and family to be there! However, we’re planning this wedding more than a year in advance, so I feel like giving people plenty of notice would allow them to request Friday off if they wanted to attend.
I guess my perspective is that I’d rather choose the date we love and give everyone plenty of time to plan around it, rather than choose a different date solely for convenience. That said, I know not everyone has the flexibility to take time off work, and I don’t want to disregard that either.
Neither of us thinks the other is necessarily wrong. We just have different priorities when it comes to choosing the date, and I’d love to hear some outside perspectives.

So for those of yall who’ve attended/planned Friday weddings we have a couple questions:

Was attendance noticeably affected by having your wedding on a Friday?

If you were invited to a Friday wedding with a year in advance would you consider taking the day off?

Edit: there are so many good points but the biggest one was that we completely overlooked that weekend being the 4th of July weekend 😅😅

Wedding/Engagement Photos Guilt for wanting big wedding

I see so many posts about people not being able to afford a big wedding, or people who want the small intimate gatherings, and thats totally okay! To each their own. I'm getting married early next year and I'm having a *somewhat* big wedding and am getting looks and criticized about it. My partner and I have always had the same vision and are investing in this experience because it is what we want.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you feel guilty? I want to be proud about this but often feel bad that this is something I want but others cannot have. I feel like I am the only one around that wants a big wedding because I see so much online about small weddings being in.

PS. my partner and I are not getting any help whatsoever. It is something we are prioritizing in our moneys.

Everything Else Bachelor party before destination wedding?

I’m getting married next year in Paris, France. I live in NYC and my groomsmen all live on the east coast (all in NYC or NJ except for 2 (1 Boston and 1 DC)). I would also invite 4-5 other guys who are spread out on the east coast, but don’t expect them all to come to the bachelor party. So it’s a group of a minimum 8 of us up to 15.

Some questions I’ve been having are:

- Should I have a bachelor party at all when I’m having people travel to Paris for my wedding?
- If I do, should it be low key? Do I just do it in NYC since most of the guys are local?
- Is doing it in a city that requires flying too much to ask? For example, like Austin or Scottsdale?

I of course want to have fun and my guy friends will do whatever it is I end up deciding to do but I don’t want to be an inconvenience. Obviously I’ve never been married so I don’t know what the customary practice is for destination weddings.

Vendors/Venue Looking for Planning Recommendations- Destination Oct 2028

Hi everyone! My husband and I got (legally)married a few days ago, October 21st, because he is in the military and I am a military veteran (US) and we wanted to be able to live on base together.

That being said, we are in the early planning phase of a very specific concept/aesthetic for a symbolic ceremony and reception in Europe for hopefully, October 21, 2028.

We will have between 25-45 guests, would love on-site or close by accommodation for all our guests, and hoping to do an "exclusive hire" for 2 or 3 days. (I have seen that term pop up in a lot of venues so that's why I mention it!) We have mainly looked at the UK, specifically Scotland, and are leaning there due to heritage, but, we are open to other regions if the venue can fit our concept!! (Concept/Aesthetic: gothic/dark romance meets medieval/renaissance era(s) fantasy)

Our budget is flexible but a max would probably be 150k Euros. We have met with a few planners, but we aren't sold on any one yet because we aren't sure how much is a reasonable amount to pay given the intricate detailing we would like. (Also- We were told it helps to find a planner/coordinator in the country of the venue since they tend to know more about the area, details, vendors, etc.)

I am hoping to get some feedback on how others are planning and what time frames they use, as well as venue and planner/coordinator recommendations preferably in Scotland. If anyone knows of any designers or ateliers(US or overseas) that will create non-traditional, concept based, custom wedding gowns- I'd love to know that too! Happy to provide more details if it helps! Thanks!

Relationships/Family Exmormon trying to plan wedding with Mormon parents…

My fiancé and I just got engaged and don’t want to be engaged too long so we are starting to plan. I’m learning that planning with my parents is not as fun as I thought it would be (I’m the bride btw).. First, we want to get married in a forest up north in our state during the spring. This area would be less than 2 hours from home. My parents are saying that’s too hard and are only sending us venues from our area. I understand it’s harder but we would love a venue up north. Second, I was explaining the color of the tie my fiancé wanted and my mom rolled her eyes and told me to tell him to let us just plan those things because “traditionally the bride and her family plan things like that”. Why can’t the groom who will literally wear the color not have an opinion?! This is for him too! Third, I’m so so so nervous to go wedding dress shopping because I just know whatever I want to wear will be too revealing (aka shoulders showing, maybe a slit in the skirt of the dress) for my mother to be willing to pay for it but I cannot afford a dress by myself right now. Fourth, they refuse to supply ANY alcohol which is minor because my fiancé’s family can do that but I don’t want them doing certain things to cause a rift. Fifth, my father said that yes we are the ones getting married but we are also hosts so it’s not just about us. I understand you want it to be happy and fun for the guests too but WE are the ones getting married? I’m so lost on how to navigate this and I’d rather not elope so we can have our loved ones there but this is so stressful.. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated, thank you.

Budget Question Wedding dilemma

Hi everyone, I need your help and opinions. I have always envisioned having a fairytale wedding. My partner has been married before, I haven’t. I feel like he’s a little bit scorn and he doesn’t see the point in huge weddings and spending a lot of money again. I can see how he’d feel like that, but I’ve always wanted to experience having a special day with my partner and having the big party and celebration because when else are you going to feel and look like this and have a reason to be extravagant. I’m starting to get stressed out with planning and I don’t know if it’s worth to spend all this money (we won’t go into debt but I still feel guilty spending). Have you found that planning your dream wedding is worth it or did anyone have any regret spending this money and making a big deal about this big day?

Everything Else What should the ceremony consist of if not religious ?

My fiance wants to do private vows so that takes away a fair amount of time during the ceremony. We are also not religious. I don’t want to do any of the like mixing sand together things. What else is there to do in a ceremony ? I feel like it’s gonna be 5-10 minutes total without this stuff.

Budget Question Ways to Save On Required Catering?

After touring tons of venues, my fiance and I finally found one that spoke to us! The only catch is they require you to select a caterer from their preferred list..

We aren’t big foodies so we honestly don’t care about the food or if it’s family style, buffet, plated. All of the quotes we’re getting back from these places are 12k+ for 125 guests. I understand the pricing also accounts for setup and cleanup, but there’s so many other things we’d rather spend our wedding money on than the food..

Does anyone have tips on how we can save when there’s a preferred list you have to choose from?

Dress/Attire Dress code question

I would like help with deciding on a dress code and also making it as low stress for guests as possible!

The wedding will be in late summer, with an outdoor ceremony adjacent to the evening indoor reception location. There will be plated dinner*, and passed apps during "cocktail" hour. There will be no alcohol, but that is for religious reasons so no one will be expecting it, and we'll have fancy mocktails. Decor will likely be on the low key / DIY end, especially since the venue has lots of natural beauty.

I am so confused about how to decide based on those details what the dress code should be. I was thinking cocktail, but online descriptions seem to very much discourage floor length dresses in that case - especially for religious reasons, I don't want to discourage that. For formal, I don't want guests to feel too restricted, especially considering the hot weather a lighter outfit would be most comfortable. Is it wrong to say "cocktail or formal"? This is a multicultural wedding so even if we didn't include any dress code I think it would stress people out more since they don't necessarily have the same expectations.

In the end neither of us really care but I've been getting questions from guests already and want to be able to give them a clear answer.

*We are actually back on forth on this part, potentially doing family style because the food is actually more suited to lots of smaller ones than a single entree. We have the ability to do either. That's a separate question though...

Dress/Attire Dress code for banquet party/restaurant wedding?

My fiance and I are going non-traditional and hosting a banquet party rather than a typical wedding. I’m a little torn on dress code because it doesn’t quite fit into the standard wedding formula.

Wedding is in a ski town, we booked a full buy-out of a historic restaurant on the Main Street. We are going light on florals but only because the restaurant has large amounts of greenery and tasteful decor as-is. It has a ground level with hardwood floors and an ornate carved bar, and a terrace level with a decorative wrought-iron balcony, high ceilings with wood paneling, but is fairly small (we are only having 70 people) so I wouldn’t say it feels “grand”. For reference, when we go there for dinner on a normal night, drinks are $15-17 and entrees are $26-50.

- Cocktail hour and toasts will be on the ground floor starting at 5pm, with an open bar that includes a selection of small-batch wine, craft beer, name brand liquor, custom craft cocktails, and grazing tables.

- Dinner will be upstairs on the terrace level and will be seated with table-side service, but is family-style like their typical dinner service. It’ll be a multi-course dinner with high-end offerings like fully-from-scratch pastas and bread, pork chop, short ribs. Tables are varnished wood, plates are glazed earthenware, rectangular tables of 8-10 will be arranged along the edges of room so a few guests (immediate family) will be seated at leather booths along two of the walls. Table decor will likely be minimal to avoid crowding. The family style serving and a few booths are the main things making me question formality.

- After dinner, there will be more drinks, dessert, and dancing back downstairs until 10 (we are considering extending until 12am but will make that decision once we have a better idea of our overall budget).

- My dress is a satin evening gown with crystal beading, fiance will be in a dark suit.

We want people to dress with some flair, but not costumey. Is “Fun Formal” appropriate for what we have planned? We’re going to include the descriptor “Sparkle, color, and texture are all welcome! Bolo ties and formal dress boots are appropriate menswear.”

Everything Else How to invite coworkers to a fast approaching international wedding?

Hey guys! So bit of a background, me and my fiancé are in a high CoL city in USA and are getting married back in Thailand ( we are immigrants and family is still there ) on 4th January. All my friends from outside work are going but facing a bit of a dilemma for coworkers and what should be the best etiquette to invite them. We knew about the wedding for like 9 months and everyone in the office knew as well but due to not being there physically, I was having difficulties in securing the venues we liked and not having a fixed date.

We only locked it this week making it just over 2 months before the big day. Now, I really want to invite my coworkers as I hang out with some of them outside work as well ( we are a large but still a fanily office so not many people ) bit unsure if it would come up as rude or unprofessional to do it when the wedding is fast approaching or like how can I do it? Should I just explain the reason bluntly while sending invites or just skip on inviting and celebrate once I am back? Thank you.

Dress/Attire Dress advice: Trying to conceive while wedding planning

Our wedding is 6 months out and we are planning to start trying to conceive next month. We have personal reasons for wanting to start ASAP and are not open to adjusting the timeline. Obviously may or may not be pregnant at the wedding depending how things go. I'm planning to do an online ordered dress like from Azazie. I've started trying on some dresses and finding what I like, while trying to make sure there's a high enough waist to accommodate a potential bump. It also works well because a-line dresses are my favorite anyway, so not necessarily completely changing the style just in case we get pregnant.

Anyway, question is - when should I aim to buy my dress? I know a lot of people recommend a year out, but I'm not sure if it's too risky of a move to buy one now, not knowing if I'll be 5 months pregnant at the wedding. With a size up from my normal and a good seamstress, do I have a shot?

Appreciate any advice!

Vendors/Venue Thinking of changing our wedding venue 5-6 months away from our wedding date..

We currently are set to have our reception on 4/24/27 at a restaurant we booked and paid the initial deposit ($3400). However, we found after booking there were a few limitations that made us wish we hadn’t booked. For example, they are very strict on decorating and strictly only a wine/bar place. We know our family/friends and know that we prefer a venue with hard liquor included. But I know, our fault for not reading the contract throughly.

We found another venue that fit our needs more that is about the same price, but with more things offered and allows outside vendors, open bar. However, our current contract states if we cancel more than 91 days prior, our deposit is non-refundable and a possibly difference of 40% of the estimated price..

My question is..

Is it worth to cancel and lose the initial deposit for a venue that suits our needs? Or should we just continue and make it work?

Budget Question Calling all Italy brides

Hello!

My fiancé and I are planning a small destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy, and I have a few questions I’m hoping other Italy brides especially anyone familiar with COMO Castello Del Nero can help me answer.

My three main questions are:

Is it normal for a hotel to only allow you to confirm a wedding date 7–8 months before the wedding? COMO Castello Del Nero is telling me that I cannot confirm a date or begin making plans with an event planner until January 11, 2027 for July/August 2027 weddings, or February 11, 2027 for September/October 2027 weddings. That feels unusually late compared with what I see other brides doing.

Is a $15,000–$20,000 wedding budget realistic for what we’re trying to do? Our guest count will be very small 15–20 people maximum and our budget does not include my dress, his tux, hair, or makeup. We also would not be paying for accommodations for our guests, since they would book and pay for their own hotel rooms.

Has anyone worked with COMO Castello Del Nero for a small wedding or micro wedding? I’d especially love to hear about your experience with their wedding planning, pricing, flexibility, and how they handle smaller groups.

We originally started looking at villas because that seems to be the typical structure for weddings in Tuscany. However, we really want a more traditional destination-wedding/hotel structure where guests book their own rooms, travel to the destination, stay at the hotel, and then attend the wedding there.

That’s one of the things that initially attracted us to COMO Castello Del Nero. They offer hotel accommodations and have the ability to host weddings on-site, so it seemed much closer to the type of destination wedding we envision.

Our guest count is intentionally very small 15–20 people. It could technically be considered an elopement, but once you get closer to 20 guests, I feel like it starts to feel more like a micro wedding.

Our total wedding budget is approximately $15,000–$20,000, and ideally I’d like to stay under $20,000. Since we aren’t renting a villa or paying for everyone’s accommodations, I’m hoping that budget is more realistic than it would be for a traditional larger Tuscany wedding.
The problem is that COMO Castello Del Nero appears to have options for renting out villas, but those seem to be geared toward weddings of 50+ people, which is not what we want.

Because we are looking at having our guests stay at the actual hotel rather than renting one of their villas, the hotel has told me that we cannot confirm a wedding date or begin making plans with an event planner until:
January 11, 2027 for July/August 2027 weddings
February 11, 2027 for September/October 2027 weddings
That means we would only have roughly a 7–8 month planning window for a wedding in the same year.
I’m wondering if that is actually normal for hotels in Italy, because I constantly see brides booking their venues and vendors much further in advance. It feels very strange to me that we would have to wait until January or February 2027 to secure a date for a summer/fall 2027 wedding.

We also aren’t planning a traditional wedding with a full reception.

The vision is pretty simple and intentional:

Day before the wedding:
Our guests would arrive and check into the hotel. Since there is a two-night minimum stay, we’d go to Florence that evening for a really nice dinner. It would be similar to a rehearsal dinner, but we’d simply reserve a restaurant and have a beautiful dinner together.

Wedding day:
We would have hair and makeup, photography, and then the ceremony at the hotel. Afterward, we’d have a beautiful dinner together at the hotel, with a nice tablescape and florals.

However, we do not want a traditional reception. There would be no DJ, dancing, large entertainment setup, or traditional reception timeline. It would essentially be an intimate, elevated dinner with our closest people. Some speeches and that’s it.

Later that night, our small group would go back into Florence and go out to a nightclub.

That part is actually intentional and personal to us. My fiancé and I met organically at the club and have been inseparable since , so ending our wedding night by taking our small group to a club feels like a fun reflection of how we met. It’s not something we want to replace with a traditional reception.

Where I think we can keep costs down

Because of the way we’re structuring the wedding, I’m hoping the budget is realistic.

We would have:

15–20 guests
Ceremony florals
A relatively simple amount of additional florals, we do not want a ton of flowers
A beautiful dinner/table setting
A photographer
No bridesmaids or groomsmen
No DJ
No traditional reception
No large entertainment setup
No villa rental
No guest accommodations paid for by us

The dress, tux, hair, and makeup are outside of the $15,000–$20,000 wedding budget.

So I’m really trying to understand whether I’m being realistic or completely underestimating the cost of having a small wedding at a luxury hotel in Tuscany.

Side note - A lot of the Italy wedding content I’m seeing is for weddings with 50+ guests, so it hasn’t been very helpful for figuring out what a 15–20-person wedding would actually cost. I’m also seeing influencers share what they spent, but their budgets include things we simply aren’t doing like large villa rentals, extensive florals, DJs, and much larger receptions.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has planned a small Tuscany wedding, micro wedding, or wedding at COMO Castello Del Nero, especially if you had a similar hotel-based setup rather than renting an entire villa.

Do you think the $15,000–$20,000 budget is realistic for this type of wedding, and is the hotel’s January/February booking window normal?

Everything Else Less than 2 weeks out, excited and also just a ball of anxiety

My wedding is less than two weeks away. I am super excited!! We have pretty much everything sorted out other than minor details, however I find myself waking up at 4 am many mornings with to do’s running through my brain. It’s exhausting. I saw in another post somebody say that they thought this time leading up to the wedding was supposed to be magical, and commenters said “no it’s very stressful” which was validating. So what I’m wondering is: what did you do that helped calm your mind in the weeks leading up to your wedding?

It’s not that I’m worrying about the day. I know the day will be lovely. I also know there will probably be things that don’t go how I planned them, and I don’t fully trust myself to be chill about it. Please help!!

Decor/DIY Did you get flower arrangements for your elopement?

My fiancé and I are planning to elope in Summer 2027. We booked a nice venue (Greystone Mansion in LA) and we’ll be wearing a traditional big white wedding gown and a suit respectively. Part of the appeal of an elopement is that we don’t have to spend too much on additional bells and whistles to impress our guests, because it’ll just be the two of us. But I’m wondering if a venue without floral arrangement will feel too plain in our photos?

My initial thought was to not include large floral arrangements besides my bouquet, but would love to hear from others. If you have done the same, do you regret not having floral arrangements? Why or why not?

Everything Else Would December be a good time for Save the Dates?

My fiance and I have our date planned for our wedding but haven’t booked any venues yet.
I am hoping to get venues booked before December.

We plan to get married in my city October 3rd 2027.
Is December too soon to send STDs? Is it too late?

I figure December is enough time for people to get PTO and whatnot sorted, but not too close to the wedding that it’s last minute.

I am worried I will be doing things on too short of a timeline. Doing everything in the same year is terrifying to me.

Tough Times Feeling stressed and feeling the pressure

Recently attended the wedding of my future sibling in law and wow.. it was probably at least a 100k weekend long production and they had full service wedding planning and design assistance. We get married in a few months and I’ve felt pretty on track planning on my own but after attending their wedding I’m feeling pretty stressed and down. I feel like no matter how hard I try our wedding will feel extremely modest in comparison. I know it’s not the most important thing in the world but after attending that wedding, I saw so many things and elements I would love to have but budget is limiting.

Wedding/Engagement Photos Loose Editorial Photographers in NJ / NY

I really love the look of "loose" editorial photography as added here. I would love for my engagement/ wedding photos to have a more artistic feel and be more true to color and if anything a bit on the warmer side (not a fan of the yellow and green tints, or super harsh flash). Any photographers who can color grade and frame photo shots similar to this? I would appreciate any recommendations :)
