Blues I am lucky enough that my father has made a lot of my furniture out of maple and cherry. I asked him if he’d replace my particleboard phonograph stand and he delivered!

Blues Crate digging in 20-30 years will be incredible.

Old record collections are tough, man. So much basic and lame shit clogging up the crates. Mass market junk.

Vinyl collectors today are much more engaged with music than people in the past. They have at least SOME sense of taste. I, like many of you, have been gifted or offered large quantities of vinyl that is simply not worth the effort. This is a temporal phenomenon. With so many independent artists pressing vinyl today, the crates of tomorrow will be SO much more interesting.

In 2050, estate sales with large quantities of vinyl will be the peeks into true taste that we wish our relatives had left for us.

To all my future diggers: enjoy. We finally made it.

EDIT: it’s clear that most of you have never purchased an album from a truly tiny independent band at a show. So many artists are pressing <500 album runs. The vinyl record of this era in music is gonna be so much deeper than the mainstream era.

I’m also not talking about looking through the records at Goodwill. I’m specifically referring to encountering collections.

Blues I Found a “Missing” Paramount 78

While visiting a friend in St. Louis, I purchased a large lot (400-500) of shellac records. Buried in a dusty old box was this Paramount. I was thrilled to find one, but I didn’t immediately realize JUST how special of a record this was. When I tried to do some research and realized the possibility, that excitement just turned to disbelief.

This record is in fact a “lost” recording of blues legend Big Bill Broonzy (misspelled as “Broomsley” on the record) playing “Station Blues” on the A side and “How You Want it Done” on the B. As far as we can tell, it’s the only copy known to exist. While there might be another out there somewhere, this is it for now.

I seriously can’t believe it. I’ve collected 78s for years but never imagined I’d come across something like this. Thrilled to do my part in preserving a piece of blues history.

Blues Friendly RSD reminder

You may miss out on your white whale holy grayel limited to 8000 release today, but don’t buy from a flipper today, tomorrow or the next day. You’ll be able to get that release within a year from today for retail or less.

Flippers are counting and depending on your FOMO to ensure they can gouge you for a 200-500% markup. Don’t be a rube.

The available stuff on the market is exclusively from flippers right now. Record stores, unless they are in on the flipping too, aren’t putting their stock online first thing in the morning of RSD. This isn’t the going rate, this is the scumbag flipper rate.

Blues Monthly reminder that Merchbar is a scam

Merchbar is based around back ordering and will sell you a record that's not actually available. In my experience, I had to go through the whole dance of threatening a chargeback before I could get a response from them. I found what I wanted cheaper elsewhere afterwards in anycase.

I got a bunch of records from my uncle. No labels. No nothing on this one. Seems like a compilation of folk and blues?

Original copy of "If I Had My Way I'd Tear The Building Down" b/w "Mother's Children Have a Hard Time" (AKA "Motherless Children"), recorded in Dallas, Texas on December 3, 1927. The title of the latter song on the record was likely due to a misunderstanding by the Columbia Records staff, and was later covered by Eric Clapton, as "Motherless Children". The first song listed was notably covered by Rev. Gary Davis, as "Samson and Delilah".

I grew up listening to Tracy-my mom is a fan, and I remember hearing this album often. “Fast Car” is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. I also added a second pic of another amazing song on this album. Everything she does is so deep and introspective. They really don’t make them like this anymore!

Blues Discogs is THE BIGGEST FRAUD. Do not buy from that site EVER.

Hi everyone.

This is a huge warning for those who are considering on making a purchase on discogs. I just wanted to share my experience with buying CDs off of there and GETTING MY MONEY STOLEN in the most stupid way with 0 help from Discogs' support.

About 2 weeks ago I bought two Britney Spears albums (In the zone and Baby one more time) on the site from a seller called "alismus". I paid 13 EUR. The next day I receieve the message

"I don't have Briony Spears in the Zone but have:

My Prerogative and Blackout.

Which one do you prefer?"" (directly copied from our chat)

- to which i replied with:

"Hey man, "In the zone" was the main reason i made that order. I just saw it would be easier to not pay shipping for a second CD and ordered the "Baby one more time" from you aswell so you can ship them together... Could I get some discount and also get both My prerogative and Blackout instead of "In the zone"? I don't want to cancel the order from fear that I might lose the shipping fee I paid. I'm on a really tight budget" (directly copied from our chat)

I then proceeded to buy "in the zone" from a different seller while waing for a reply. The next day though the seller ALISMUS sent me a message stating:

"I have found ln the Zone. I don't have Baby one more time, I can send My Prerogative in its place if you like?" (directly copied from our chat)

to which i once again replied with "Dude, can I just have what I paid for😭You told me you couldn't find In the zone and I had my friend buy it from another seller on this site for me yesterday." (copied from our chat)

and then he told me to cancel my order. There's no cancel order button. On Discogs' FAQ is written that only the seller can cancel and do a refund through the site so I must contact them about it. Since then I have contacted daily asking for them to cancel my order and give me a refund. No reply. The person took my money and never sent anything or replied. To which of course i contacted Discogs support. I honestly could not believe how TERRIBLE their support can be. I kept giving myself false hopes and thinking "No way their support would make me wait this long. If im waiting that much, maybe they're working on my case? They surely will have a professional approach, considering how much money and traffic their site gains"

First of all there's no phone number or an email for support. I had to send a ticket through their support page after dealing with an annoying ai for 15 minutes. I made a ticket (which bugged when creating it) with no reply for days so I made a second one. Today I see that the tickets have both been closed as "solved" with NO reply from the support staff, no refund, no canceled order, no nothing. Just marked as solved. I can not add comments or reply either. I attach a picture of one of the orders, they have both been assigned to the same person called Bianca.

This must be THE SADDEST experience I have ever lived. The worst sellers, the worst support, the site is so badly programmed, no feedback, INSANELY LONG waiting just to not receive help, no refunds, people can steal other's money just like that, without repercussions. I fully expect to never see that money again. These people are getting paid to do that by the way. Getting paid to not do their job.

UPD: stop dragging me in the comments i am trying to spread awareness of the idiots that sell on discogs + how terrible and unhelpful discogs support is. For those that are telling me to get a refund via Paypal, I did not pay through pay pal but through my debit card which i suppose somehow makes a transaction through paypal. I've contacted my bank and that refund will probably take months to be completed. I KNOW i said this is the worst experience of my life, that was a hyperbole, ive just never had such bad experience with online e-commerce marketplaces. I've done over 500 orders in my life and there wasn't a single one that required such action and had such terrible feedback from support. ANYWAY go on your day and stop spreading hate and making fun lol I bet you mean people have your ugly adult acne faces buried in reddit all day. God one time i try to post something and i get 25 comments telling me im stupid but i go on my day without a care. I'm just disappointed from the whole situation, that's all. God forbid a teenager shares his issues

Blues What are some good records to put on for relaxing?

Something I can turn on in the background without vocals and relax to. I just got Miles Davis Kind of Blue record and I love it. I usually put on relaxing music on YouTube while studying, working, or relaxing. It’d be great to have more records instead. Doesn’t have to be Blues or Jazz either. Can be anything.

Blues What is a staple album you have to play when you set up a new cartridge or get new equipment?

I have been collecting for 35 years and the one album that started me on my whole journey was Waterfront by John Lee Hooker. Once I heard that song my audio equipment has been geared toward making that song come alive as if he was in the room with me. Yes I have many more albums that I play to test my setup but I get excited to listen to this song every time I change my setup.

Blues Merchbar is the worst

I ordered 6 albums during their Labor Day sale and still haven’t shipped. Every time I email them asking about the order they say it hasn’t been processed yet so they can’t give me a delivery date. All of the items were listed in stock. Now that I emailed them after 3 min the asking for my money back they sent an email saying they are dealing with a heavy flow of emails and might take time to respond. They are the worst!

Blues What are some of your favorite vinyl albums to relax to?

I recently find myself wanting to enjoy records that are a bit more stripped down or slower in music pace and wanted to know if anyone here has more suggestions for this mood I'm in. I've been listening to 'Folk Singer' (Muddy Waters), Robert Johnson, and Johnny Cash 'American' albums. The last is not exactly blues, I know. Would love to hear what some of your favorites are, regardless of genre, but I do trend towards the blues.

A few years back I found this autographed poster of Otis Redding at a Salvation Army in Milledgeville Ga. Otis is a legendary blues singer out of Macon Ga not very far from Milledgeville. He tragically died in a plane crash right as he was starting to go mainstream.

Did I make my Character limit bot? If you’re going to require one maybe display my current character number.

Stoked on yesterday’s find. John Fahey Volume 1 / Blind Joe Death. It was still partially in the shrink and looks like it’s only been played once or twice. Sounds great. I think it’s a pressing from the later 60s.
